This week Nate was joined by Wick Terrell of RedReporter.com to wax poetic over the debut of Rece Hinds – a legend in the making! The fellas then reminisced over their favorite Reds debuts – and some they’ve only read about.
After that they had to give some flowers to the newest Reds All-Stars – Elly De La Cruz and Hunter Greene – before wrapping things up with some thoughts on the upcoming MLB draft, the trade deadline, injury updates, and of course – Viewer Mail questions!

Senzel’s been released by the Nationals. He was dfa’d and no one claimed him. I guess the $6mil signing bonus he got from the Reds was enough for him and his family. They should be able to get by on it.
I noticed that this morning. It’s unfortunate that he was able to sustain his early success with the Nats.
A team claiming him would be on the hook for the rest of his $2mm contract this season, or about $900k. He could still sign with a team, which now would only have to pay him about $300k for the rest of the season. $600,000 is still $600,000.
I’d guess some team will take a flyer on him, and park him for a while in AAA. If not, he might well be done playing in the U.S.
Austin Wynns had a great debut. I like him a lot better than Maile at the plate. You could pinch hit Wynns but would you want to with Maile?
Wynns and Maile are arguably the same player both offensively and defensively over their careers. Wynns OPS+ this year (in 13 ABs) is 237, while his career number (6 years) is 67. He will cool off, but I’m happy they have him as a third catcher. Kudos to the FO for the innovative split contract that has kept him on the team despite the DFAs.
Senzel needs to go to the minors and buy himself a first baseman’s mitt, Doesn’t have to think to play 1B. Dumbest pro baseball player I’ve ever seen. Said 2 years ago he’d be out of baseball well before his 30th birthday and he’s well on his way.
He seemed to me to be a guy who never quite grasped as he moved up the ladder from local to traveling youth ball to NCAA D1 to MiLB to MLB that the floor level kept rising exponentially while the ceiling stayed essentially flat, especially from MiLB entry level on up when international guys joined the pool.
