Connor Overton and two relievers combined to record the Cincinnati Reds' first shutout of the season, a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Tommy Pham and Mike Moustakas combined with four extra base hits off the great Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop the Reds from adding on to their worst start in franchise history. Tyler Mahle only lasted 3.1 innings as he struggled with his command. The Reds have now lost 17 of 18 to fall to 3-20 on the season. The Reds are now 12.5 games back in the NL Central.
The Cincinnati Reds (3-19) will travel to Wisconsin to start a three game series with the first place Milwaukee Brewers (15-8) tonight at 7:40 PM. The Reds have the worst record in baseball, they are off to their worst start in franchise history and have lost 17 of 18 games. The Brewers have won 5 of 6, and since starting the season 4-5, they have gone 11-3.
Hunter Greene threw 39 pitches above 100+ in his hometown of Los Angeles.
Greene dominated the mighty Dodgers for five innings. Unfortunately for Greene and the Reds, an elite hitter in Trea Turner caught up to a fairly well located 98.9 MPH fastball and blasted it into the left field seats. Greene would leave later in the inning after 80 pitches, but finished the night throwing just shy of 50% of his pitches above the century mark.
Hope is an extremely important, if not the MOST important, emotion associated with being a fan of a particular sports team. Cincinnati Reds fans had their hopes raised considerably today during a 6-3 victory over the defending World Champion Atlanta Braves.
