Rhett Lowder

It’s been an inconsistent season for Lowder. After struggling for much of the first half he was moved to the bullpen, but that was a short stay as the team needed someone to step into the rotation. After a very bad return as a starter he’s pitched fine in the seven games since as he’s posted a 4.05 ERA in that time. Earlier this season Lowder faced the Brewers in back-to-back starts. The first one was fine as he allowed three runs in5.2 innings, but the next one saw him allow six runs on 11 hits and a walk in 4.2 innings.

The splits against Lowder aren’t too big, but both groups of hitters are finding some success against him. Right-handed hitters hit for a high average, but they don’t walk or hit for much power when facing him. Left-handed hitters have a solid average, walk at a solid rate, and when they get hits they show good amounts of power. Not shown below is that he’s pitched much better at home (.688 OPS against, 3.35 ERA) than he has on the road (.848 OPS against, 6.79 ERA).

Shane Drohan

It has been a good rookie season for the 27-year-old Drohan. Acquired in a trade from Boston in February, Drohan began the season in Triple-A before making a spot start on April 8th. After two more start in Triple-A that followed he was back in Milwaukee on April 24th and has stayed up ever since. After spending time in the bullpen through May he moved into the rotation in June and has continued to find success. He’s faced the Reds twice this year and has allowed two earned runs in 10.0 innings.

The splits against Drohan favor right-handed hitters. They hit for a higher average and walk at a good rate, but they only show mediocre power. Lefties don’t face him much. When they do they hit for a so-so average, but they never walk and when they do get hits they don’t show any power. He’s been better on the road (.628 OPS against, 3.38 ERA) than at home (.759 OPS against, 3.99 ERA).

Lowder had a 5.75 ERA after his ugly outing against Colorado in mid-July. After that, he has allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in 6 out of 7 starts and allowing 4 earned runs in the other game. He seems to have settled as a solid or average starter although tonight he has a very hard challenge against the Brewers’ pesky lineup…

  2. Dennis Westrick

Just one question regarding the Reds lineup for tonight’s game! Why move H-Rod from the leadoff spot? He was fairly effective in that spot I thought!

  3. Kevin H

Interesting Sam’s slate this evening. He talked about front office and how do the Brewers do it. It was implied maybe Reds should pay attention to the how the Brewers build their team.

13 games will either give Reds hope of making postseason, or put all things to rest. LOL

Myself, I want to see competitive baseball and Reds rookies making some noise. Win or Lose that is what I want to see from this team.

What I would love to see is 13-0. LOL

  4. Doug Gray

Game is now scheduled to begin at 7:00pm ET

  5. Mark A Verticchio

I will be the first to ask the question. Why Mclain instead of Brito? Tito just will not quit playing the guy, his problems are no longer a slump, it’s been over 3 years since he was a major league caliber hitter.

    • Brian

Because Juan Brito isn’t as good as Matt McLain is. Think about how good every single player brought up from Louisville hit down there and then didn’t hit in Cincinnati. They all hit at least 100 points of OPS better than Brito hit in the same league this year. Brito couldn’t even hit enough to be league average in the International League in 2026.

      • Mark A Verticchio

Brian: you do realize that Mclain is hitting .188 and 3 years older than Brito. As I said earlier Mclain, who I really liked, hasn’t hit for over 3 years. That is a long time. By the way I hope Matt comes back and becomes what we all thought he would be 3 years ago.

      • Brian

McLain is two years older than Brito. McLain turned 27 less than a month ago and Brito will be turning 25 in two weeks.

Brito hasn’t hit in Triple-A. McLain hasn’t hit in MLB. Those are not the same things. And McLain is a better defensive player on top of it. That’s why he is playing and why Brito isn’t. You don’t like the answer because you just want the younger guys to play. But just being younger does not mean you are better or more deserving or even have a better future. It just means you are younger.

    • greenmtred

Because hitting is not the only thing that matters, Mark.

      • Roger Garrett

Defense matters and we know that McLain is good defensively. The fact he hasn’t hit for 3 years and the Reds keep running him out there and will again next year is all on him and the Reds.Unless you find a better one in free agency or develop one in the minors you get what you have today in the case of McLain.

  6. GreatRedLegsFan

Time to go younger, play Stewart, EDLC, Brito, Jorge, Rodriguez & Arroyo everday.

    • Mark A Verticchio

I agree, once again I am not calling it but at age 24, 20 years ago, another former Cleveland Indian came to the Reds with little fan fare and we know how that worked out.

  7. Goldenbear

I’m trying to figure out a scenario where the Reds just beat up on the Brewers tonight. Maybe, if Lowder has a no-hitter into the 6th, McLain is a single away from hitting for the cycle, Arroyo has 2 bombs and Yelich twists his ankle. It’s baseball and anything can happen.

  8. RedsGettingBetter

It’s not good idea walking guys against this Brewers lineup

  9. Mark Moore

Settled in for the duration. Let’s see if we can figure out Bernie’s puzzle tonight.

Didn’t realize their record was better than any other NL team … just keep going no matter what.

  10. Mark Moore

Worked out of it with a little help from his friends.

  11. Andrew Brewer

Lowder K’s Yelich on 3 pitches with a man on 2nd to end the Milwaukee first …

  12. Roger Garrett

CES with homer last night along with another hit a walk and a K.Homer was his 8th and came off 97 velo from Chapman. Not playing every day but seems to be producing when playing.Hope he makes it.

  13. DWCT

Boom goes the dynamite! EDLC makes it 2-zip.

    • DWCT

I read that wrong. Just ignore that post.

  14. Kevin H

    Elly stays hot!!!

    Reds best player by far

  15. Andrew Brewer

Reds jump on Drohan for a quick run … Love it !

    • Andrew Brewer

should have kept the pressure on, instead an inning ending DP.

  16. Kevin H

What I notice watching other broadcast, the guys announcing don’t talk much about the opponent. They talk about their team more times than they don’t

    • Mark Moore

Good point. I get weary of the truckload of micro-stats and the man-crushes on opposing players. It’s why I tend to avoid TV audio. Not sure when it will change (if ever).

      • Kevin H

I agree and I think that is why Larkin doesn’t talk much. Like right now he is talking about the pitcher of the Brewers. Like who cares?

I think Thrall and Larkin did really well together.

  17. RedsGettingBetter

Reds scoring early against Brewers , that is a little bit weird…

  18. Andrew Brewer

Needed to keep the damage to one, but now there’s a man on 3rd, and 2 runs across, with two out.

  19. Mark Moore

Dane Myers stems the bleeding. Way to go!

  20. RedsGettingBetter

The lefty hitters hit well those pitches located down and inside…. This Brewers lineup is plagued of reds killers…

  21. RedAlert

Great catch ! Myers saved your tail Lowder …. He won’t last 4 innings at this rate … hope I’m wrong . Never seen a dude get hurt with 2 outs more than he does – constantly .

  22. Gfelt

You have to respect the way Myers plays the game. He plays so hard.

  23. Andrew Brewer

Ah right, we got the leading lady on …

  24. Andrew Brewer

My eyes did not deceive me ! McLain just hit a two run homer !

  25. RedsGettingBetter

McLain! gives the lead back to the Reds immediately…

  26. RedAlert

McLain nice ! Didn’t assume it was a HR …. Hustling all the way !

  27. DWCT

Matt (the one time bat) gets the lead back. Nice.

  28. Kevin H

There’s that check swing Mark!!! LOL what is and isn’t a swing when you check your swing LOL

  29. DWCT

Ok, Rhett, let’s try this again now that you have another lead to protect.

  30. RedsGettingBetter

Arroyo is due for his first homer…maybe today is the day…

  31. RedAlert

Come on Lowder ! All over the be place ….

    • CincyDo

Yeah..0-2 count and threw a slider over the plate.

  32. JB

0-2 count and Lowder throws it over the middle. Brewers don’t miss those pitches.

  33. Mark A Verticchio

Too many walks by Lowder = runs.

  34. Andrew Brewer

That one hurt ! with 2 strikes and two outs, Turang dbls with 2 on …

  35. RedsGettingBetter

Lowder has been hit by the lefties when throws the slider inside down

  36. DWCT

Lowder seems to throw a lot of pitches. 69 so far.

  37. Kevin H

Myers has had a solid season up to this point.

  38. DWCT

Elly passing out souvenirs and getting on base.

  39. Andrew Brewer

On the 11th pitch, Elly singles to left with one out …

    • Andrew Brewer

Sal first pitch swinging with Elly on first … Must know something.

  40. Chris

Great atbat by Elly and smokes it! 115 off the bat!

  41. Kevin H

I wish Sal would be more patient at the plate. That is twice now `1 pitch = out with Elly on first.

  42. Dennis Westrick

I so much want the Reds young pitchers to succeed! They have great stuff but need to limit the walks which extend innings, often leading to runs and, of course, adding to their pitch counts! The top of the 3rd inning was a perfect example of that as Lowder’s 2 walks led to 2 runs!

    • Andrew Brewer

I’m thinking it’s time for Lowder to sit if we want to win this one …

  43. DWCT

Geno’s first home run as a citizen of the USA is coming right up.

  44. Andrew Brewer

Suarez hits a three run blast ! Reds back in the lead !

  45. Mark Moore

1st blast as a US Citizen goes for 3 runs!!! What a night!

  46. RedsGettingBetter

Suarez delivers! Reds are ahead again! This game is up and down…

  47. Melvin

USA! USA! Geno the citizen hits one out. 🙂

  48. DWCT

I’d be tempted to lift Lowder. If it wasn’t for Meyers gem, he’d have given up 6 runs already. He has me convinced.

    • Andrew Brewer

Agreed, but I doubt if Tito will do it.

  49. Mark A Verticchio

The first guy Lowder walks, take him out.

  50. RedsGettingBetter

Drohan is at 66 pitches and Lowder 69 through only 3 innings…

  51. Kevin H

So you take Lowder out in 4th inning if he struggles and burn up your bullpen with a big stretch of games coming up? A lot to ask of your bullpen if you make that move

    • DWCT

Well, it’s do or die time for the Reds if they are getting a playoff spot. You worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

      • Kevin H

I agree, however if you burn through the bullpen today lets say then what happens Sunday or Monday.. If only two or three guys available.

Tough decision’s I am glad I don’t have to make!!

I do agree with you DWCT.

  52. DWCT

Anyone think the Reds are gonna score 4 in 4th, 5 in the 5th and so on? Works for me.

  53. Andrew Brewer

Who’s up and throwing in the Reds bullpen ?

    • Andrew Brewer

2 down now with a man on first …

  54. DWCT

Two more hard hit balls. That’s enough for me.

  55. Andrew Brewer

i’ve never seen a game begin like that: 1-2-3 in so many innings

    • Kevin H

I just caught this, so this means Reds score 4 in the 4th?

      • Andrew Brewer

If they get 1, I’d be happy… Then they can begin the sequence again…

    • Andrew Brewer

Lowder gets his 2nd K of the day to end the 4th with nothing across.

  56. VaRedsFan

Larkin just went 9 straight pitches without saying a word.
    NINE

  57. RedsGettingBetter

Lowder has battled very hard but he’s been in trouble along the game…at 90 pitches he likely is done after just 4 innings

  58. DWCT

Huge K there. That has to be his last inning. He’s up over 90 pitches.

  59. Mark Moore

Held the line. That’s a positive. Get 5 innings out of Lowder and go to the pen. It’s a brutal schedule regardless going forward.

    • Andrew Brewer

I’m thinking winning the first one is more important, and we’re up 6-4

      • Mark Moore

Tend to agree. Win the first and then move ahead with that to buoy up the old attitude.

  60. Mark Moore

Thrall is baiting Cowboy at the moment. Ribbing him about advanced analytics. All in good fun.

  61. Andrew Brewer

The Reds go down in order in the 4th …

    • Andrew Brewer

and put Lowder back out there for the 5th …

      • Andrew Brewer

come on, Tito, first and 2nd with no outs …

  62. RedsGettingBetter

Why is Lowder pitching after 100 pitches?

  63. GreatRedLegsFan

Francona needs to get to the bullpen earlier in the games, Lowder had done enough by going 4 innings against a very talented Brewers lineup.

  64. Jason T.

Come on Elly, you’ve got to make that play, smh…

  65. Andrew Brewer

With the bases loaded, on comes Moll.

  66. Kevin H

Man tough break there. Elly with the Error.. Should of been a double play

  67. Roger Garrett

Reds were off yesterday so it is a little confusing why he was sent back out.

    • Kevin H

My best guess is some guys may not be available today’s game as well.

  68. Dennis Westrick

Lowder struggling with walks and then the Elly error ends his night! Moll to the rescue!

  69. Mark A Verticchio

Elly makes some great plays but that was a tailor made double play that may turn this game around. Many will argue but he belongs at 3rd or in the outfield.

  70. CincyDo

Bad fundamentals will not hold up under pressure and that’s Elly.

  71. Mark Moore

Looking a little stiff out there at SS

    • Kevin H

Maybe the quad injury bothered him on that ground ball Mark? I think Maybe

      • Mark Moore

That’s what I’m thinking, Kevin. Earlier, he knew he was out at 2nd and wasn’t hustling to the base. I’m sure it’s still tentative.

    • VaRedsFan

He wouldn’t being playing the field if it was bothering him.

  72. CincyDo

Francona is conceding thr lead by bringing in…Moll

  73. Jason T.

I sure hope Moll isn’t part of the 2027 Reds season.

  74. Mark A Verticchio

This inning has disaster written all over it.

  75. RedsGettingBetter

This kind of inning is because Lowder shouldn’t be pitching in the 5th …And well Moll has been bad

  76. RedAlert

0-2 and hits the guy – UNBELIEVABLE …. Moll can’t stop ANYBODY from scoring.

  77. Roger Garrett

Guess Moll has to pitch sometime but WOW this could be a disaster right here.I mean you have to wonder why Sam with the bases loaded and no outs.

    • Jason T.

It’s one thing to run him out. It’s another to run him out in a high leverage situation. Playing with fire there and Reds got burned.

  78. Andrew Brewer

Sam gets the first out of the inning on a K, bases still loaded. 6-5

    • Andrew Brewer

looks like a bases clearing triple from where I’m sitting …

      • Andrew Brewer

and a wild pitch brings him home … 9-6

The Reds own folly comes back to bite them.

  79. Mark Moore

Cooper Pratt … that’s a good baseball name.

  80. Kevin H

Again Sadak talking and Larkin adding nothing

  81. Mark Moore

And why can’t we have nice things?

  82. Jeremiah

Who’d be the better SS defensively if you put them there for 100 games, De La Cruz, or McLain? Not trying to take a side necessarily, and McLain’s offense outside of the occasional homer like tonight, leaves a lot to be desired, but curious who scouts, fans, etc. would rather have there over a long period of time.

    • Tom Diesman

McLain without a doubt in my opinion.

    • Mark Moore

Over time, probably Matty. Elly does get to stuff nobody ever could, but you have to balance all that in the end with stuff like we just saw.

    • Jeremiah

I appreciate your guys’ opinion as you see the games more than I do. That’s interesting. I love the talent, the flashy plays of EDC, game changing plays he can make, but can see just a normal above average defender like McLain may be the better fit.

    • Melvin

If you want spectacular plays with errors inbetween EDLC.

If you want sure handedness and virtually no errors Mighty Mac.

      • Jeremiah

There was a play the other week, liner by McLain where I thought De La Cruz, probably lunges and gets that, but then like you said McLain probably rarely misses the routine plays. Think De La Cruz will be moved off SS at some point in his career whether with the Reds or not.

  83. Jason T.

Thanks for nothing Moll. No business pitching there. Francona with a very poor move there.

  84. Don A

How genius of Tito to leave Moll in!!!

  85. Kevin H

Booing does nothing for me. Fans make me laugh

  86. JB

Again other team would have DFA’d moll by now. Not the Reds.

  87. RedAlert

Can’t hide Sam Moll ….. why in the absolute world would you run this guy out here in a high leverage situation Francona ???? Unreal …. He has been terrible for a while now …. UNREAL

    • Kevin H

Being the 5th inning you don’t want your high leverage guys to come in. Moll has a job to do and doesn’t get it done. If Burke would of come in and then game close in 8th inning your faced with same dilemma..

      • Mark A Verticchio

Sorry Kevin but sometimes you can’t play the what if game.

      • RedAlert

I’d almost rather have a right handed pitcher than Moll … to heck with the
handedness of the hitter …. MOLL has sucked for a long while now . Has shown over and over again that he can’t stop
inherited runners from scoring this year .

      • JB

I would rather have Burke come in with the bases loaded than Moll. You might not even be in the game later to have it matter.

      • Kevin H

@Mark, then people would of complained about using one better relief options. Have seen it on here

@Red, then complain about that pitcher being used?

I contend Moll has a job to do, and didn’t get it done again

      • Mark A Verticchio

Regardless that inning may turn this series completely around. Oh well it’s the Brewers what did we expect to happen.

  88. Jason T.

Melting down faster than Chernobyl did. My goodness to quote Barry Larkin.

  89. Steve F

Sam Moll in a high leverage situation. What could go wrong?

  90. Mark A Verticchio

Long inning, Elly’s error, Francona’s choice and Moll.

  91. Dennis Westrick

Great job by Moll! Hits the 1st batter he faces, then gives up a bases-clearing triple and caps that off with a wild pitch! No more Moll next season would be my suggestion!

    • Melvin

“Great job by Moll! Hits the 1st batter he faces”

After going 0-2 when T.S. won that challenge for him.

  92. Jeff Morris

IFFFFF there is a MLB Season next year, the Reds NEED to move on from Sam Moll. They need to upgrade from him. He needs to go somewhere else!

  93. Jeremiah

I really like Hector Rodriguez, but is he not good defensively? I’m not sure how that was a triple. It just seems the few videos I see, the routes, the way Francona takes him out, his throws at times, that he may not be highly thought of defensively.

  94. JB

If they need a lefty then I don’t know why they didnt give Anthony Misiewicz a try. Anything is better than what Moll has given them in the last month plus

  95. DWCT

I just got back from dinner. They let Lowder back out there and followed up with Moll? No way.

  96. Roger Garrett

As a friend of mine used to say Ray Charles could see that coming from a mile away.To be honest Sam would have been the last pen piece I would have put in with the bases loaded and no outs. Now the pen will get burned up any way in a losing effort.Somebody will have to take one for the team with two inning or more.Worse possible outcome.Walks errors HBP and a wild pitch after the day off yesterday at home.

  97. CincyDo

The winner of this game will need to score in the mid teens. Over/under anyone? 🙂

  98. Jason T.

Watching this game, one can see why the Brewers are the 1st place team and the Reds are the last place team. The Brewers do everything better than the Reds do. Unfortunately.

    • Roger Garrett

Yes they do and its not even at times a fair fight especially if you don’t play a clean game.Reds were off yesterday and the Brewers played last night in Chicago and well as you said they are just better and I take my hat off to them.

  99. Jeremiah

Francona deserves credit for the team winning 4-6 starting the Gauntlet schedule of late! But bringing Moll in to face the heart of Milwaukee’s order, in a tight good game you’ve got some momentum in. What are we thinking Francona?!

    • Jeremiah

I was wrong on this, I didn’t recognize Lowder started the inning. It seems Burke would have been the better option there though.

  100. RedAlert

Give somebody else an opportunity other than Sam Moll ….. .he’s done enough
    damage .

    • CincyDo

Well said my friend. Well said. But Francona is known for being very loyal to his players, an admirable trait but does not serve well in some cases.

  101. Brian Rutherford

Sorry if this has already been covered but how is it a good decision to leave in a pitcher at almost 100 pitches and leave him in the game against the #1 team in the NL and let the lead get away and maybe put it out of reach?

If I didn’t know any better I would say the manager has just said to himself “who cares” and just left him in there. I know it isn’t what happened but it is so doggone frustrating!

    Apologize for the rant

  102. Jeremiah

EDC makes the error, but man he’s been great offensively recently. I almost think the rest off of SS has helped a bit before being back their tonight. But maybe he’s just locked in Offensively.

  103. VaRedsFan

To the people complaining about Moll…
Yes he has been bad…awful even…
    But…

He was the guy that was warm.
He warmed up the inning before also.
You can’t know the bases were going to be loaded when Lowder had to come out.

He was pitching this inning regardaless.
I can’t believe people here think that Burke could get up and pitch in the span of three minutes.

    Think people.

    • Jeremiah

Good point Va, I didn’t know the scenario. I think Moll being the first option in a close game though, hasn’t worked a lot for the Reds with Moll it seems last month or so.

      • VaRedsFan

FWIW…he had only given up 1 run in his last 4 outings.

    • Roger Garrett

Great points and I don’t watch the games only follow on ESPN.My only question maybe is if he is warm why wait after the first runner reaches with Yelich a lefty next Maybe you go out after the second hitter reaches(Yelich) on the walk even though the next guy is a right handed hitter. You are right no way to know the bases were loaded when Moll comes in and maybe you have a righty up with Moll knowing that he will be used at some time.Just hindsight on my part and I know the manager does not get that privilege.Error was huge of course.

    • Randoxu1

Or maybe you have 2 guys warming up depending on the situation. They had an off day the day before. You pick your spots but we have seen moll all year and we know what he is, not very good.

  104. RedsGettingBetter

In a lot of games the Reds have had good pitching against the Brewers but couldn’t hit at all so they lost in a low scoring…Tonight they have scored 6 runs just to allow 10 to the Brewers so far…it’s so frustrating actually…

  105. Mark Moore

OK, I guess I’m done for the evening. This is Bernie and we knew that coming it. They just keep at it.

  106. CincyDo

Are we sick of seeing Brewers hit yet? From top to bottom they all hit.

  107. Jason T.

Reds, live and die by the long ball. Facts.
Brewers, can manufacture runs without the long ball. Facts.
Brewers are a scary team. Their situational hitting is off the charts.

  108. Andrew Brewer

Come on, Mey, can’t give up another one !

    • Andrew Brewer

The Crew gets one in the 6th, making it 10-6, a tall order for the Reds, but we have 4 chances…

  109. Dennis Westrick

Think about this! Milwaukee has 10 runs on 10 hits in just 6 innings! Good Grief, Charlie Brown!

  110. VaRedsFan

I love the way the Brewers play the game.

That being said, I hope they get swept out of the playoffs.
If they somehow win it all, then that give MLB the opportunity to say “See…small market teams can win in this league”

The Reds aren’t just handicapped financially, but by a front office, and team hitting philosophy that doesn’t hold up against the competition.

  111. Dennis Westrick

Was kinda hoping the Reds could take this series from Milwaukee to avoid the inevitable! With 22 games to go the Reds trail the NL Central Division leaders by 19.5 games! If the Reds get swept this weekend, they will be mathematically eliminated from the Division title! Sad! Very sad!

  112. Jeremiah

The Brewers are like a well-oiled machine.

  113. DWCT

Someone called for Arroyo’s first home run tonight. This would be a good spot for it.

  114. Kevin H

Interesting move here. Wonder if Arroyo is hurt??

  115. Jeremiah

There’s a 279 run differential between the Brew Crew and Reds, and the Reds would have to win 39 in a row to be be 33 over .500 like the Brewers. I can’t understand how there is such a gap between these franchises….but it’s not just the Reds of course, they’re out classing most of MLB as well with the exception of the other 10 normal playoff teams annually, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Phillies, etc.

    • VaRedsFan

True…It’s a team philosophy in my opinion.
Their front office is proactive…they don’t get married to their players like the Reds do.

      Better front office talent evaluation?

Tampa Bay Rays do it in the AL…same formula.

  116. Jeremiah

Congrats to Jorge getting his first MLB at-bat. But yes odd move I think, pinch-hitting for Arroyo there, unless there’s an injury as Kevin alluded to. If not, that’s a serious lack of confidence vote in Arroyo there by the Manager.

  117. Melvin

Let’s see now Brewers 10 runs 0 HR. Reds 6 runs 2 HR.

Brewers last in the majors in HR. Reds 4th in the majors in HR.

Brewers 3rd in the majors in BA. Reds last in the majors in BA.

Of course there are a lot more factors but you get the point.

    • Kevin H

Yep. Line drives and opposite field hitting works!!

    • Melvin

I might add Brewers in first place with a 19.5 game lead over the Reds who ARE IN LAST. lol

    • Andrew Brewer

The fact is with the lineup we have we had to start hitting long balls because we couldn’t put rallies together. How many rallies have you seen this year where we scored multiple runs ? You can count ’em on one hand.

      • VaRedsFan

You can’t if you are hitting the ball in the air, or striking out all the time.
Home runs are in play, if your players are Schwarber, Ohtani, Alvarez…ect…not if they are named Hayes, Friedl, Arroyo…ect

  118. Andrew Brewer

Need to get a couple back here in the 7th, if we’re going to make a run at it …

  119. Kevin H

I still think Elly in cf would be best for all. Mclain to me seems to be better at ss.

His error this evening is looming large. It isnt the first time a error by Elly has cost the reds.

  120. CincyDo

Score a couple runs here and we have a game. Sal, please do something

  121. Melvin

Myers is a keeper as the perfect 4th outfielder/pinch hitter. Problem is he’s one of the best we got.

  122. Jeremiah

Think it’d be cool if Stewart can get to 35Hrs, 115 RBIs.

  123. Kevin H

Sal Stewart best player A the reds have.

As I contend Elly and Sal are the best players reds have

    • Andrew Brewer

But Ty Steve collects his second GIDP to end it.

  124. Jeremiah

Oh no, the old Stephenson returned for tonight! The Stephenson that would hit into double plays and strike out often. Hopefully it’s just a one night blip for Stephenson.

  125. Jason T.

    Sal Stewart career OPS+ 126
    Elly career OPS+ 113.

Both fantastic and carry the Reds. But Sal is the best hitter on the Reds. He’s clutch. He knows hitting. Excellent zone awareness. Total package.

    • Kevin H

I contend Elly is the best hitter. He has improved each year. His awareness at the plate has gotten better.

Sal has had 1 good year. This year. Myself I am holding off saying he is best as it takes more than 1 year to prove.

  126. Melvin

Seems like Antone Mr. Three T.J. surgeries has pitched A LOT this year.

    • CincyDo

Another questionable move by Francona tonight. Where is Garcia?

  127. Andrew Brewer

Ashby is on for the Crew in the 8th ….

    • Andrew Brewer

HRod collects his 3rd K on the evening. Not looking like the hitter we have seen.

    • JB

Mclain was a strike. Funny all night Reds broadcast has shown when the pitch was wrong. Case in point Hrods strike which was a ball. But they did not show McLains because The 2 buffoons were clamoring for a challenge that it was a ball. It wasn’t and the broadcast knew it wasn’t by not showing it.

  128. Andrew Brewer

We’re onto the ninth, rounds down 10-7 …

    • Andrew Brewer

Yeah, that’s The Trevor McGill on the mound …

  129. Mark A Verticchio

The game hinged on a blown double play and Moll failing in relief..

    • Andrew Brewer

And Francona leaving Lowder in too long.

    • JB

Moll is past his days of being a relief pitcher. He has sucked for months but the front office ,as usual, sucks every penny they can get out of a guy no matter how terrible they are. They won’t DFA him and because of that he should only be used in a mop up roll. Using him early before anybody else is criminal. Especially since they were still in the game and they had a day off yesterday. If they were worried about using up the bullpen then send Molly down and bring up another pitcher on the 40.

  130. Dennis Westrick

Was just comparing the batting averages in tonight’s box score! Lowest BA for the Brewers tonight is Yelich at .242. In contrast, the Reds have 5 batters in their lineup hitting BELOW .242. Yet, they managed to score 6 runs, which on most nights gets you a win! Pitching was their downfall tonight!

  131. Kevin H

Tough game, however reds battled. On to tomorrow

  132. Andrew Brewer

And that’s it, Reds lose 10-7.

  133. Jason T.

Reds drop to 15-29 versus our division. Just not nearly good enough.

  134. Jimbo44cn

I wonder how many words Sadak said in tonight’s game. His complete bio on the Brewers starting pitcher was such a joy.
