Hunter Greene

After missing the first three months of the season, Greene has returned the mound after elbow surgery back in March and has made four starts. Two of them have been good. The first and the last were decidedly not, though his manager left him out to eat it in the last one.

With just four starts under his belt in 2026, the splits for this season aren’t all that useful. Last season he didn’t show splits that favored lefties or righties as neither group hit for much against him when it came to batting average and neither group walked much. Lefties hit for good power when they found the occasional hit against him, while righties showed so-so power when they found a hit.

Paul Skenes

From the time that Skenes made his debut in 2024 through the end of 2025 he was probably the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. This season he’s still been good, but he’s merely been good instead of outright dominant. He’s been inconsistent in 2026, and he’s had three lackluster starts in his last six outings, including the last time out when the Cubs scored five runs in 5.1 innings against him. He’s faced the Reds twice this year, giving up a run in 5.0 innings on April 1st and then allowing four runs in 5.0 innings a month ago.

Teams have stacked lefties against Skenes this season, but it hasn’t exactly been a beneficial move as lefties have hit worse against him in 2026. They are walking more than righties are but are hitting for a lower average and have a slightly lower slugging percentage against him. Righties are hitting for a so-so average, but they never walk and don’t show much of any power when facing him.

News and Notes

Nick Lodolo’s rehab

This afternoon Lodolo threw three simulated innings at Great American Ball Park where he mixed in a handful of breaking balls with a new and different grip than the one that’s been causing his blister issues over the past year.

Is Hunter Greene available?

Yesterday morning there were reports from two national writers that the Reds were at least entertaining offers for Hunter Greene. Then last night Bob Nightengale of USA Today said that the team has been telling teams that he’s “untouchable”. Up is left. Down is right. The next few days leading up to the trade deadline sure will be interesting.

“Then last night Bob Nightengale of USA Today said that the team has been telling teams that he’s “untouchable”.”

There really is no such thing as “untouchable”. They’er not fooling anybody.

  2. Klugo

Who would it take to pry Hunter Greene away?. Sound off.

    • Melvin

If some team is going to get him it most likely will be the Dodgers. Their farm system is evidently loaded.

  3. Dennis Westrick

During some “idle time” today I took the time to peruse the 2026 NL statistics! As for NL starting pitchers, I looked at the record of a couple of my favorite former Reds SPs. Imagine where the Reds might be if they still had Sonny Gray and Nick Martinez. Both have double-digit wins compared to Lowder at 3-7 and Singer at 5-10. Of course, that assumes that both Gray and Martinez could have their current W-L records with the Reds potent offense!

As for NL team batting stats, only the Pirates have more SOs than the Reds!

I expect a low scoring game tonight and am hopeful the “good” HG shows up!

As always, some early runs would be helpful for Hunter Greene and the Reds!

    • RedsFanForLife

The FO didn’t want to pay for either Gray or Martinez and that’s why they’re not Reds anymore. Unfortunately, the FO is in the unenviable position of having to overpay for good starting pitching in FA. Also, for FA starting pitchers, there are so many better ballparks to pitch in than GABP. For that reason, imo we have to trade the starters that we have before their walk season and get back what we can in return. I have little confidence in the FO signing pitchers like Lodolo, Greene and Abbott if they reach FA. Because of this, we should take the best college pitcher available every year with our first round draft pick. To me, this is our best chance to get a good ROI 4-5 years later when we should be trading them with with some control remaining. Just one man’s opinion.

      • Dennis Westrick

Makes complete sense unfortunately for us Reds fans!

  4. RedsFanForLife

The way Burke has pitched until this point in the season, I’m wondering if there were any extension talks. I’m thinking with players like Stephenson and Burke, both having very good seasons, they want to test the FA market to have the best chance for top $$$. To me, the best chance for the Reds is to try and get the younger players to sign extensions that will keep them through their first couple of years in FA like Greene and Burns. The ship seems to have sailed with Elly, but Abbott and Sal look to be ones that the FO should seriously pursue in the near future.

    • JB

Brewers did it with a couple of their guys. I think they might have signed the young shortstop to an ext before he even played a single inning at the major league level.

    • Woodrow

Burke is this year’s 2024 Sam Moll. Reliever volatility.

  5. Melvin

Come on Marte. Better effort there please.

    • JB

I think it’s time he becomes somebody else’s headache

  6. DWCT

Someone asked for the same lineup after last night’s win, and they got their wish.

    • RedsFanForLife

Yup, best chance to win the game

  7. JB

Not sure Marte could have caught that ball but he wasn’t in any hurry.

    • Melvin

There are reasons Tito hasn’t been playing him regularly. We’re seeing them. Hinds as bad as he was before he left would have been better for us.

  8. Melvin

Should have been out of this inning. Running up the pitch count if nothing else.

  9. Dennis Westrick

As fate would have it, yesterday was a good day for the Reds! Six of the eight teams ahead of the Reds in the NL Wild Card standings lost! In addition, the NL Central leading Brewers also lost!

Need a lot more of that!

In the words of the late Al Davis, “Just Win Baby!”

  10. Melvin

That one is on Greene himself not covering.

    • JB

He beat the runner. Sal should have known he wasn’t going to make it. Just toss the ball and hope for the best.

      • Melvin

Yeah but he didn’t get a good break off the mound. Fortunate there wasn’t a severe collision there from two of your best players. Both didn’t handle that play well.

    • Mark Moore

Some hesitation covering, but he was there first. Of all our pitchers, Greene should be trusted to catch a flip.

    • VaRedsFan

Sal has to toss it…That’s on him.

  11. Roger Garrett

Walk, infield hit etc etc.Just not a good start for Hunter.

  12. Melvin

No errors but in practicality two unearned runs already.

  13. Woodrow

Three weak fundemental defensive plays in a half inning. Tim Duncan would never.

  14. dimondfvr

I believe I’ve solved the answer as to why the Reds’ defense has been deteriorating. Too many BOBBLE-head nights at GABP.

  15. RedsGettingBetter

Greene isn’t locating well so that let to hit him…2-0 hole against Skenes…not good

  16. Mark Moore

Not sure I can stay in positive mode with this kind of bonehead stuff going on. Give away outs AND runs. Just Smack My Head Extra Hard.

    • JB

You must have a concussion after the last week of play.

    • oklared

No Marte fan but that is a large assumption. I think both are very suspicious

      • oklared

Sorry this should have went to jb post above

    • Dennis Schiavone

@mark. Well, I will up you a fork to my eye

  17. DWCT

I guess this isn’t going to be one of Francona’s ‘clean’ games.

  18. Indy Red Man

HG slow off the mound then grooves a heater to a guy hitting .318 when we needed a pickup there. Just constant mental errors on this team. At what point does Tito get some of this?

  19. VaRedsFan

To call the ground ball to Sal a hit is just so bad.
    5 outs needed that inning.
    Now it’s 2-0 instead

  20. Roger Garrett

Teams win and lose together but we seem to never play clean games much any more. Not sure about all of this at times.Big boy ball is hard but well what can you say.

  21. Indy Red Man

Sal still should’ve flipped the ball….just HG wasn’t there yet and he misjudged.

  22. RedsGettingBetter

    Nice 8-pitch walk by Elly

  23. RedsFanForLife

Just anticipating to see the handshakes and hugs in the dugout when players are notified that they have been traded over the weekend.

    • Dennis Schiavone

@redsfanforlife. So sad and so true

  24. DWCT

EDLC draws a 9-pitch walk, and it gets followed up by a GIDP.

  25. Roger Garrett

Will check back later on.just not feeling good about what we are seeing.Don’t want to just complain all night long.Maybe they flip the switch and get it together.

  26. Indy Red Man

HG at 7.54….untouchable lol. Lets see if he can put up a quality start 6/3 or less? Pitt missing some guys….he should if he’s a #1-#2

    • VaRedsFan

Sure…blame what happened to him in the first, on Greene

  27. DWCT

At the very least, they are running up the pitch count.

  28. RedsGettingBetter

Another nice 8-pitch walk now by Bleday…

  29. Indy Red Man

2 walks and a ball hit 105+ I would think.

  30. RedsFanForLife

Both starters will be out of the game before the 6th inning

  31. Melvin

Do ya think T.S. is excited about being traded possibly? haha He’s hitting well.

    • Mark Moore

May be thinking October in Pinstripes. I’ll throw up a bit in the back of my mouth, but I’ll wish him well.

    • Mark Moore

If it was gonna happen, it already would have. He’ll want way longer than the 2 years they will offer at this point. I’d be shocked if it happened.

  32. Indy Red Man

Stephenson better be sell high. Too bad Elly didn’t steal there, we’d be tied

  33. DWCT

Skenes isn’t fooling anyone. Tie ball game.

    What happened to him?

  34. Mark Moore

Thank you Pie-Rats for cutting that throw 😮

  35. Melvin

Thank you for cutting that ball off Mr. First Baseman. 🙂

  36. Steve F

I don’t know, maybe put Elle in motion…nah.

  37. JB

See I would give Lowe and ext and use him as a DH against righties and Steer DH against lefties.

    • Indy Red Man

If Steer can’t play 2B I’d move him in the offseason, but I agree on Lowe. He has value here and wouldn’t bring back that much

      • JB

Steer isn’t bringing anything substantial. He mashes lefties and I would keep him just that. He also can give guys a day off at certain positions. Now sign Arraez and a couple of outfielders and let’s play ball

      • Indy Red Man

They won’t pay 3 guys. We’ll be lucky if they get 1

      • JB

Oh they will get 3 guys. It won’t be anybody we want and they will be projects trying to right their careers.

    • Brian1

This please! Only thing is that Steer is gonna get expensive for not hitting RH’s well.

  38. VaRedsFan

Nice cutoff….I think he was a dead duck at home if the throw goes through.

  39. RedsGettingBetter

A tied game and the good news is Skenes threw 36 pitches in the 1st inning

  40. Mark Moore

At least that was a solo shot. Couldn’t really defend it.

  41. Indy Red Man

7.71 untouchable lol. Don’t make me type 9 something

    • RedAlert

      Don’t get it either …. I like
Greene but sure wouldn’t hurt to see what somebody offers before turning it down ….

    • VaRedsFan

Sure…blame what happened to him in the first, on Greene

      • Indy Red Man

2 outs 1 on and he walked a guy, then he didn’t break off the mound right away and made it awkward for Sal. He then threw a heater down the middle to a guy hitting .318. So yeah a big part is on him

      • VaRedsFan

        1 out 1 on
        Taylor made DP not turned.

Ball hit that deep to 1st Sal has to toss it immediately.

  42. DWCT

Where’s Chris Paddack when the Reds need him?

  43. VaRedsFan

People ask what happened to Skenes….two words

    Olivia Dunn

  44. JB

Look at Marte!! Is it to early to look for those wheels for the bandwagon?

    • Melvin

haha You can look if you want to. It would take A LOT for me to hop on. 🙂

  45. DWCT

At least, Matty swung the bat tonight. Baby steps.

  46. RedAlert

McLain – whiff man extraordinaire… pitiful

  47. Dennis Westrick

Skenes at 50 pitches thru 2 innings! Don’t know if that’s good or bad with the Pirates BP being what it is!

    • JB

Pirates Bullpen is barely better than the Reds.

  48. Dennis Westrick

Green is all over the place tonight!

  49. RedAlert

Cause his ball don’t move Barry … straight as an arrow

  50. Indy Red Man

I missed Marte’s double. Somebody said he’s only 24 last night, but he’ll be 25 in October. Last year .748 wasn’t bad. Half of RLN will ride or die for Steer and he’s .748 for his career and under that this year. Idk? Ks like last night where Marte waves at sliders 2 feet off the plate is not a good look. Steer has never done that.

His arm in RF plays! Thats a bonus! If I was Tito I’d pencil him in as long as he seems focused

    • Melvin

“If I was Tito I’d pencil him in as long as he seems focused”

From what I can see that’s his BIGGEST problem not staying focused from one game to the next.

      • Indy Red Man

I think its lack of confidence and being moved around more then not caring, but I’m not around him 24/7

      • Melvin

        “Game? I’m thinking inning.”

        😀

      • oklared

Agree inning or pitch I am thinking

  51. RedsGettingBetter

Greene is not good today either… He’s in the verge of a big hit…

  52. Indy Red Man

Maybe they meant untouchbable as in KBH is untouchable.

  53. VaRedsFan

Tyler now 6-12 lifetime vs. Skenes as he steps in here

  54. Indy Red Man

I’ll give Krall his props for Bleday and Burke. He still needs to go though…unless they win 20 in August

  55. Votto4life

Too bad Bleday didn’t start the season in Cincinnati. He may have close to 30 home runs by now. I sure hope they don’t trade him.

  56. JB

I sign Tyler to a 4 yr deal. There are no Free agent catchers this year. Duno isn’t coming for 2 years. He is still in AA. By time Duno gets here Tyler has 2 years left and they both can share time. We don’t even know if Duno will hit Major league pitching. If Duno pans out , he will be making less than a million so Tyler’s contract won’t be bad. Get rid of Tyler and Trevino is the guy. Get set for some bad times.

    • Melvin

“We don’t even know if Duno will hit Major league pitching”

We don’t even know if he can hit AAA pitching.

      • JB

I will say this, I think by being great at ABS , Tyler has become a better hitter for it.

      • Melvin

“I will say this, I think by being great at ABS , Tyler has become a better hitter for it.”

It would seem it’s effected him in a positive way.

    • VaRedsFan

      I agree with this.
Can’t put all your eggs into the Duno basket.
      They did that with Mclain

    • Noyes

Trevino can go too in the offseason. Shake the glove tree and something will fall out.

    • Mark Moore

It likely takes a solid 4-year deal, maybe even with an option year added. I have to think that’s the minimum he’ll get on the FA market. As you said, we don’t have a lot of other options.

  57. JB

At this point in time I think Skenes wants a do – over on the season.

  58. Mark Moore

And Marte ultimately does Marte … Le Sigh …

  59. RedsGettingBetter

McLain was struckout before he took the at-bat… swinging to everything …embarrassing

  60. RedsGettingBetter

An efficient inning by Greene…that was needed

  61. Mark Moore

Much better inning for HG. And Skenes is still at a higher pitch count. Hoping that plays in our favor.

  62. Mark Moore

Don’t mind the bunt idea, but too much juice on it. Needed to be softer. And Larkin said he tipped it a little early.

  63. Melvin

Come on Mr. RBI man. Get Elly in Sal.

  64. Mark Moore

Nice on, Elly … 3-bagger all the way when it gets by their CFer.

One job here, Sal … and you delivered with style.

  65. JB

This Skenes guy stinks. Lol RLN would be ripping him up.

  66. RedsGettingBetter

Bye bye ball …that is gone! Reds ahead …Skenes getting crushed by the Reds…

  67. Mark Moore

Mr. Skenes is NOT having a fun evening. Gives up his first two HR’s EVER against our Boyz.

    • RedsMonk65

I feel very bad for him. NOT. 😉

  68. RedAlert

ROY ALL DAY LONG ! Ain’t even close

  69. Indy Red Man

They are hitting Skenes so hard….not a fluke. Stewie dp 1st inning was absolutely crushed. Of course Gonzales just missed 3 run HR for them. Both starters off their game

  70. JB

Doesn’t Sal have a record now for most RBIs before August for a rookie?

    • Mark Moore

They showed the number chart last night. I think he’s alone in 2nd place.

  71. oklared

Just reminds you baseball is long season and not as much difference between us and some other teams when it is all said and done

  72. Indy Red Man

5.5 out of the last wild card. I only mention that when Kevin seems to be absent or he’d be booking hotel rooms somewhere

  73. RedsFanForLife

My prediction is that HRod will be starting in RF next Tuesday against the A’s

    • Mark Moore

Because of who getting moved or sent down?

      • RedsFanForLife

I think Friedl gets sent down and HRod will be promoted along with Toglia and Chavis to fill roster spots of departing Geno and Lowe.

      • RedsFanForLife

Oh, also Banfield for the departed Stephenson

    • Indy Red Man

Just remember Marte and Arroyo both beat his ops…..Marte easily. Of course Indy was the Reds AAA for many many years. We had a guy in Indy one year named Champ Summers hit like .365. I couldn’t wait for him to come up and rake for the Reds, but it never happened

  74. RedsGettingBetter

This inning doesn’t look good for Greene…

  75. Indy Red Man

My team scores 5 through 4 innings and I blow it.

    Untouchable

  76. JB

When does the pitchers duel start? Asking for a friend

    • oklared

The predictability of baseball numbers don’t lie but they can misrepresent what will happen lol

  77. Jeremiah

If Reds sweep do they not sell? Was Skenes affected by the World Baseball Classic? He’s not the same dominant pitcher this year.

Stephenson is hitting like the really good hitter we thought he’d be years back. His value probably about as high as it could be at the deadline, although clubs might still be hesitant about his defense.

    • oklared

I don’t know he blocks well and abs savant and hits good for catcher is pretty solid package

    • Mark Moore

I say they still sell. Too many teams to leapfrog and not a cake walk schedule.

Stephenson takes a lot of flack from people, but you can also see his value in handling our staff and his superior ability at ABS challenges. That’s now a defensive factor teams consider.

  78. Mark Moore

May not like Lowe because of his colors, but he does seem like a solid ballplayer. Did his job and it paid off. Let’s hope that early barrage of runs doesn’t keep haunting us. Need to stay ahead.

    • Andrew Brewer

Greene must have heard you … Nice use of the splitter that inning.

  79. RedsFanForLife

I was wrong, Hunter made it to the 6th inning. Last inning based on pitch count? Quick inning might get him another inning

  80. RedsGettingBetter

This is not an outstanding outing by Greene but he manages to throw 6 frames while the Reds are ahead by 1 run

  81. Indy Red Man

Marte to the par-tay. Now steal 2nd

  82. Jeremiah

This is a really big series for the Pirates. They may be feeling some pressure. I think they are buyers no matter what, but if they lose 3 or 4 to the Reds will dampen their hopes I think moving forward.

I like the Reds are playing them better recently. Reds at least playing better in central vs. St. Louis and Pitt.

  83. Indy Red Man

Over/Under 9 per game on Larkin’s “Gotta let it travel”

    Over over over over over

    • Mark Moore

Is there an over/under line on how many different words Sadak will use during a single game?

    • Jason T.

      “My Goodness”

      That’s another on repeat.

  84. oklared

That is an automatic bet there, lol

  85. Jason T.

Wild that McLain has managed to lower his batting average. As low as it already was…

    • Mark Moore

I’m just happy he didn’t whiff … especially in statue mode.

      • Jason T.

True. It is the little things in life.

  86. Jeremiah

Reds should win at least 3 of 4 in this series. Feels they have a little momentum and getting to the Pirates bullpen early tonight could benefit them this weekend.

    • Mark Moore

Yeah … it would really take some air out of their collective tires.

  87. Indy Red Man

Murakami #24 off our friend Nick Martinez. $34 mil for 2 years. Reds could afford something like that if they let Singer go. Trade Geno or don’t bring him back. I’m sure there are some other hitters over there or Korea that could help

  88. Andrew Brewer

Should have sent ’em. Antowne Kelly is firing heat and has a good slider.
    Missed opportunity there.

  89. RedAlert

Hold ya breath – Moll . Most unreliable dude they got in a 1 run game late . Why just why !

  90. oklared

Well, our untouchable out pitched their untouchable. So, I guess we won consolation prize at least.

  91. Melvin

Moll walking the leadoff batter with a one run lead. Not good.

  92. JB

Hey look Moll walks first batter. Shocked

    • RedsMonk65

No hits. No runs. What’s the issue?

  93. RedsFanForLife

Would rather see Ferguson, Garcia, Burke and Antone in the 7th and 8th innings when we’re ahead. Keep Moll, McCambley and Johnson for the games we’re behind.

  94. Mark Moore

Huge crowd tonight. See what good baseball can accomplish?

    Oh … right … free concert …

  95. Jeremiah

Sal Stewart tied for MLB RBI lead with 82! Have Reds ever had someone lead thr league in RBIs? That’s awesome. I know Wetherholt considered a more all around player than Stewart but I think Stewart is heading for Rookie of the Year barring injury.

    • Melvin

“Have Reds ever had someone lead thr league in RBIs? That’s awesome.”

I’m sure there are a few. George Foster of the Big Red Machine comes to mind in 1977.

    • Mark Moore

We have way back in the day. They were mentioning Bench in one of his early years.

      George Foster in 1977:

      – 52 HR’s
      – 149 RBI’s

Both those lead the NL and he wone the league MVP. Also came in 4th in BA that year.

      • Melvin

        “George Foster in 1977:

        – 52 HR’s
        – 149 RBI’s”

Don’t be stealing my posts. 😉

      • Jeremiah

Oh yeah I remember seeing those stats for Foster now that you mention. Didn’t know he led the league, what a year 149 RBIs.

    • Oldtimer

Frank McCormick 128 RBI in 1939. Big Klu 141 RBI in 1954.

  96. JB

Stephenson knows it was a ball. Just giving Moll a breather

  97. RedsGettingBetter

Julian Garcia has been useful recently…he’s pitched in 3 straight games if I´m not wrong

    • Noyes

he is knocking this audition out of the park. Didn’t pitch yesterday but I agree they should be careful not to ride him like Santillan last year.

  98. JB

Harrison Bader doing Bader things. Maybe the Reds can trade for him and we can have the second coming of “Scooter”

  99. Andrew Brewer

I love it ! Tito brings in Julian G. who ends the inning on one sweeper.

  100. Jeremiah

I’m still trying to figure out which guy is Julien Garcia and which guy is Jose Franco.

    • Andrew Brewer

Franco just came up, and will not be here long. Julian is killing it with his sweeper.

  101. JB

Sign Lowe and send Geno packing. Lowe will be cheaper and hits righties well.

    • Melvin

I wasn’t too thrilled about signing Suarez but was happy it was only a one year deal. I’m still happy it’s a one year deal. 🙂

      • JB

I think it’s a mutual for next year. I could see the Reds dumb enough to pick it up.

  102. Mark A Verticchio

Terrible inning, why is Suarez still playing?

    • Andrew Brewer

I’m waiting for him to drop below the Mendoza line …

  103. RedsGettingBetter

Suarez and Myers killed another chance to tick in the lead…very awful at bats…How many runners have stranded Suarez in the season?

    • Andrew Brewer

I was thinking Myers bunted because he thought it was his best chance there.

  104. Steve

Suarez……………..i admit, i thought if he could hit 230 to 240 with 35 hr, it would really help….wow was i wrong….

    • Andrew Brewer

That ties it ! and Johnson has replaced Ferguson… 5-5

  105. Redlegs1869

Can’t stand prosperity. Reid’s had 1st and 3rd one out and got zip. Let’s see how the bad guys do.

  106. Doc

Greene pitching as if he wants to stay with a club with low expectations.

  107. RedsGettingBetter

    Uuh a blooper what a luck…incredible

  108. Mark Moore

Didn’t we watch this show last night?

  109. JB

Can’t tell me Tito isn’t any more frustrated than we are. Can’t count on half the bullpen pitchers. Just like last year

    • Melvin

Can’t count on at least a third of his lineup from night to night.

  110. Don A

Why did’nt Garcia come back out for the 8th! Burning through all the pitchers! UGH

    • Andrew Brewer

and that’s where things went bad …

  111. Jeremiah

Would be a big loss for the Pirates, they’d officially be scuffling, and doubts arising to whether they are a legit playoff contender.

A win for the Reds…would show they’re still fighting. Probably little too late for a turnaround, but it’d keep the dream barely alive.

  112. RedsGettingBetter

Reds can’t come thru when have runners on base Pirates can

  113. Andrew Brewer

… and now the Pie-rats take the lead, 6-5 . Well, you didn’t think the 5 would hold up in this one, did ya ?

    • Andrew Brewer

Make that a 3 spot in the 8th. Pirates lead 7-5. Reds gonna have to dig deep.

  114. Redlegs1869

And there it is. Coughing up the lead in the 8th with two outs. Now what’s our chances of non ting a couple runs in our last couple AB’s? And they aren’t done yet.

  115. JB

This is why I extend Burke and Antone. Reds need bullpen guys for next year and you could end up signing guys like Moll,Johnson or Ferguson. I don’t think you will get much for Burke and Antone except A or AA guys that might not get to the show for 3 years .

  116. RedsGettingBetter

    Johnson has been pitiful recently

    • RedAlert

Johnson and Ferguson need to both be off this roster by Monday … AJ t neither one been good … go suck for somebody else

  117. Mark Moore

Well, RLN friends, I do believe I hear the siren call of watching something else. Looks like this inning has cooked our goose and that first inning is indeed haunting us.

I’ll catch you all tomorrow evening.

Pizza is on the menu, Melvin. Just in case you are wondering. Sausage, red pepper, red onion, baby bella mushrooms.

    • Melvin

“Pizza is on the menu, Melvin. Just in case you are wondering. Sausage, red pepper, red onion, baby bella mushrooms.”

Get your pizza delivery man ready. 😉

  118. Mark A Verticchio

The last inning has been the Reds season, back to 7 behind .500 at 41 and 48. They really needed to sweep this series. Please quit playing Suarez.

    • Andrew Brewer

We’re still at 51-57 until this one is over…

  119. RedsGettingBetter

Marte 3-4 tonight but had a strikeout with bases loaded

  120. Andrew Brewer

Marte battles to lead off the 8th with a single. (He’s 3-4 on the day.)

  121. oklared

Wow hits back to back Marte and MM what are odds

  122. Indy Red Man

Marte to the par-tay. Pirates pen stinks too, but 3 hits is 3 hits

  123. Jeremiah

Now who would have thought marte and mclain may be leading a rally back into this game? This would be one of th great wins of the season of they come back in this one.

  124. JB

1st and 3rd no outs. We have been here multiple times. Please Lord let us have nice things

  125. Steve F

McLain bad swing, gets a hit out of it. Elle, Sal coming up.

    • oklared

Yep, and I don’t care just like the result

    • Melvin

There ya go Mr. RBI man. TWO RBI to tie it!

  126. RedsGettingBetter

Elly still needs to step up in the clutch

    • Richard Fitch

Yeah, if only he was “gritty” like Kyle Farmer.

      • Jason Franklin

Seriously, what else do these guys want from Elly??? It’s like they don’t really appreciate how good he’s been this year.

  127. Andrew Brewer

the RBI king just gets another one, on a first pitch fastball … 7-6

    • Andrew Brewer

My mistake, that was a bases clearing DBL to tie it. 7-7

  128. Mark A Verticchio

My mistake, great job Sal that is 84.

    • Redlegs1869

Sal has to be the front runner for ROY. Has to be! Where would they be without him? Probably 20 under 500.

  129. RedsGettingBetter

Stewart did it!! Tied game again!

  130. RedAlert

Big Sal !!!- you can’t stop him you can only hope to contain him ! This guy is the
absolute real deal ! Reds got em a keeper !

  131. oklared

Did Sal just set rookie rbi record by Aug?

    • JB

I believe so. I’m shocked Mr. statistic hasn’t mentioned it.

    • Oldtimer

Rookie RBI record is Ted Williams in 1939 (145 RBI), I think. ROY RBI record is Walt Dropo in 1949 (144 RBI),

      • Oldtimer

Williams had 100+ RBI by August 1939.

      • Doug Gray

Ted Williams entered August of 1939 with 86 RBI. He had played in 89 of the Red Sox 90 games to that point.

      • Oldtimer

I just looked it up. I got 86 RBI also. So, he barely edged out Stewart.

  132. JB

I believe Sal has the record now for most RBIs by a rookie before August?

    • Oldtimer

Probably Ted Williams in 1939. He had 145 RBI all season. Guessing (not sure) he had 100+ before August 1939.

      • JB

“Stewart’s 8oth RBI is third most through the month of July for National League rookies since 1920. He’s already surpassed both Albert Pujols and Pete Alonso.” – Doug Gray.

      • Oldtimer

Ted Williams hold MLB record and AL record. He never played in NL.

  133. Noyes

Sal out here looking like the new Manny Ramirez.

  134. oklared

Wow in April or May who would intentionally walk stevo

    • Redlegs1869

Root lab is “thrown out on the base path like a nincompoop.” But whatever! We will take it!

  135. Melvin

Wow. Pittsburgh made a mistake and we score. What a bummer. 😉

  136. RedsMonk65

What a treasure Lowe has been. Hate to lose him, if we do.

  137. Andrew Brewer

Lowe strikes pay dirt ! Drives in Sal to take the lead in the 8th ! 8-7 Reds !

  138. Jeremiah

This is a pretty entertaining game in general.

    • JB

It has been. Who would have thought with Greene vs Skenes. Crazy

  139. Richard Fitch

    WWKYD?

    Think KeBryan makes that throw?

  140. Melvin

Now if Hayes gets a hit here it will just about top off the miracle come back.

  141. Noyes

… and it all started with a 10-pitch base hit from Noelvi Marte.

    • oklared

Not a believer yet but he had a good night tonight and hope he has many more

      • Noyes

Honestly I’m not really a believer either and won’t be until he starts homering (or walking… lol) but the scorn was getting pretty intense for a minute there. Dude should be playing.

  142. oklared

How devastating a loss would this be for the Pirates

  143. DWCT

Marte’s 3-hit night has him climbed up on the Mendoza Line.

    Come on, Emilio!!

  144. Andrew Brewer

Pagan grooved a fastball there with a 3-0 count, but it ended up as a ground out to 2nd… 2 down in the 9th.

  145. JB

Good to see the much maligned Marte and Mac start that rally. They both need something good to fall their way.

  146. Steve F

O’Hearn did the Reds a favor swinging 3-0

  147. oklared

Pagan non closure gets the job done but is rarely pretty. I would not switch horses now though.

  148. Oldtimer

Reds win 8-7. Pagan 12th save in 15 SVO.

  149. JB

Stephenson was challenging that even if the ump called a ball.

  150. RedsFanForLife

    Same lineup again tomorrow Tito!

  151. Indy Red Man

Stewie only given a single so thats twice in a week that we scored from 1st on a single. You have to find a way to use your speed and be aggressive. Tito struggles with that I think

    • Melvin

Yeah. He doesn’t run too well these days does he? 😉

  152. RedsGettingBetter

Reds win a roller coaster game thanks to Stewart 4 RBIs and the help of Pirates defense…

  153. Jeremiah

That’s got to be a top 5 win for the Reds this year. What a game….Pirates I think are feeling the pressure of expectations and currently faltering a bit.

    Great win.

  154. DWCT

Sal now leads the NL in runs batted in. Major kudos to the person that made that selection in the draft.

  155. DWCT

Correction. Sal now leads the majors in RBIs.

  156. DWCT

Did everyone enjoy that pitching duel between Greene and Skenes?

  157. DWCT

CES doubles home two runs in the 7th as the Orioles jump on top of the Phillies.

    • Roger Garrett

When down and got the sweeper on the corner away.

  158. Steve F

Sal has only a 1.9 WAR before tonight. That sure suggests that statistic isn’t reality based.

  159. Roger Garrett

Marte gets it started after down 0-2 with a 10 pitch at bat single and MMC follows with a hit.The read he got on Sal’s hit and he turned on the jets to score was just a great big league play.Great win and a team win for the Reds.

  160. LDS

So Skenes is human. Greene is still rusty from the layoff. And the bookies cleaned up on all the under bets.
