Andrew Abbott

After struggling in his first six starts this season, Abbott made an adjustment and in the 13 starts since he’s posted a 2.86 ERA in 72.1 innings. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of those starts after giving up more than three earned in three of his first six games. The lefty had eight strikeouts and gave up three runs in 6.0 innings against Philadelphia in his last start.

The splits on the year don’t tell the story of how players have performed against Abbott for much of the year. In his first six starts left-handed hitters hit .481/.500/.704 against him. Since then they’ve hit .212/.255/.329 against him. Right-handed hitters have also hit worse during that stretch than the numbers below, but it’s much closer to those totals.

Matthew Boyd

It’s been an up-and-down season for Matthew Boyd so far in 2026. He spent time on the injured list in April with a biceps strain. When he returned from that he pitched for two weeks before landing back on the injured list with a knee injury that cost him seven weeks before returning late in June. After struggling in his first start where he allowed six runs, he’s posted a 3.25 ERA in his other seven starts. The last time out he threw 6.0 shutout innings against Baltimore.

The splits for Boyd are still in the small sample size range but the splits are showing a huge difference. Left-handed hitters don’t face him often, but when they have this year they’ve done absolutely nothing at all and haven’t had an extra-base hit against him. Right-handed hitters are hitting for a high average and showing a good amount of power. They aren’t walking much when facing him.

News and Notes

Chase Petty called up, Lodolo to the IL

Two roster moves today for the Reds. Chase Petty is called up from Triple-A to take over the spot on the pitching staff that was available after Nick Lodolo was placed on the 15-day injured list after exiting last night’s game with a blister issue. We got into a little more detail on that here if you’d like to check that out.

Day Two of the MLB Draft

Day one was completed yesterday and the Reds made five picks in the first four rounds. We wrote about those players here. Today they will complete rounds 5-20. Over at RedsMinorLeagues.com I will have that coverage all day long with things beginning around 11:30am and expected to last until about 7:30pm tonight.

The Futures Game

This game begins at 12:00pm ET so you may be realizing it after it begins, but catcher and top prospect Alfredo Duno is the lone Reds player in the game and he’s starting for the National League. If you want to tune in the game is available on NBC or Peacock.

  1. Melvin

Steer back in CF. He seemed to like it there. Maybe he’ll get three hits again today. 🙂

    • greenmtred

He might steal a homer, too. No World Cup games today for refuge.

  2. greenmtred

    A comment-worthy lineup, but I’ll refrain.

    • Dennis Schiavone

@oldtimer. Wow how cool is that. USA women’s win by 93 or did I miss something. I’m so glad for you to be able to be part of her life. It’s certainly not the case for me.

  3. RedsFanForLife

Taking in the Futures Game until the Reds game starts. Duno, starting at C and hitting 6th. Some real talent to watch.

  4. Dennis Westrick

Just took a look at the Reds 2026 schedule to date and realized that the Reds have played the Cubs 6 times so far this season and have only won once! Yikes! 3 of the 5 losses were by only one run! Hopefully the Reds can close out the current series by winning today and the pitching staff can get some much-needed rest!

    • Antreds

I know the Cubs have a boat load of pitching injuries so kudos to them I guess . Just goes to show you what an even decent lineup can do.

It not like that have guys just pounding the BB up and down that lineup.they have professional major league hitter hmm a novel idea Cincinnati . One super star .

That said I just don’t think there that good of a ball club. I’ve watched them plenty they don’t impress me at all but again there record is what it is so give them that credit , plus s good manager doesn’t hurt in CC.

      • Justin T

So it IS possible to over come injuries and still find ways to win? The numbers say the Reds have been relatively healthy this year when compared to other teams.

      • greenmtred

It is possible, but it requires depth.

  5. RedsFanForLife

Reds just selected a P from Wake Forest in the 6th round. Been good for us so far, hopefully he’ll join Burns and Lowder in the rotation someday.

    • Indy Red Man

Jury is out on Lowder, but approaching his first 100 innings with a 3.84 career era so far. Not bad, but he needs to cut down on all the walks

      • greenmtred

He may just be trying to fit in, Indy.

  6. Dennis Westrick

Pirates on their way to sweeping their 3-game series with the Brewers! Go figure!

    • Oldtimer

The Pirates and Brewers are capable MLB teams. Both have MLB talent. Either can beat the other on any given day.

    • Antreds

And the reds are playing Spencer Steer on CF . There you go what a joke.

Hey at least its entertaining maybe not in a good way but in a way like a car accident you just have to drive by and look . Ugh

  7. Mark A Verticchio

Walks have been a problem for Abbott.

    • Melvin

I just watched it for the first time. Kind of in no man’s land. Maybe a very good CF would catch it. EDLC would have caught but we’ll never know. 😉 Steer didn’t look bad though on that play to me.

  8. Mark A Verticchio

As much Abbott’s fault as Steers, quit walking people.

    • Dennis Westrick

Finally, somebody else that recognizes that walks, especially leadoff walks, are bad!

  9. RedAlert

Spencer zero business playing center field …ZERO

    • JB

Who else you want out there? Bleday is atrocious in center in the past. You cry when Friedl is even in the lineup and Marte is completely tentative in right and center.

      • RedAlert

Wrong answer JB ! … Friedl
Very good defensively… no he cannot hit . As opposed to playing center field , he should be there all day instead of Steer… fine with Steer at either corner . Nobody crying

      • JB

Please you whine every game about someone. You don’t even want Friedl in the Reds system. Now he is your savior because Steer didn’t make a catch.

    • Michael B. Green

Next up in CF – Tyler Stephenson

  10. Gpod

A pop up that is not caught costs the reds a run

  11. Mark A Verticchio

Just a poor first inning for Abbott, hopefully the Reds can score some runs = don’t bet on it.

    • Gpod

We all know one thing…if the reds aren’t hitting HR’s …they ain’t scoring

    • Dennis Westrick

Concerning that it took Abbott 31 pitches to get thru the first inning!

  12. Mark A Verticchio

Since that can’t trade Lodolo now, they should shed themselves of Abbott. Average pitcher at best.

  13. Jason T.

Steer gave it a shot. Tough crowd. Reality check, baseball players are in fact human and will misplay balls sometimes. Love his hustle and versatility.
Abbott has been more than solid and hopefully settles down. Not sure our offense is built for a big game. Who knows though.

    • Jim Walker

The crowd probably was not booing Steer. They were likely booing the extended roster mismanagement, which painted the manager into a corner where he felt Steer was his needed CF choice,

  14. Dennis Westrick

Amazing how the Cubs play station-to-station baseball! Leadoff walk, then a stolen base followed by a deep flyball out that moves the runner to third which allows the next batter the chance to drive him home which he does with a double! Second run scores on another double!

That’s efficient baseball! A walk and 2 hits produce 2 runs! Reds need to take note!

  15. EricDavisJoeMorgan

    Greenmtred …….

Haha lol that was great lol

    GO REDS !

  16. VaRedsFan

The pitchforks are out over a looper that falls in after a sliding attempt that hits off his glove, with an infielder and right fielder all converging at once.
The level of commenting here has plunged in recent years.

    • Jason T.

Definitely and calling Abbott average at best?
Some crazy takes on here. Crazy!

      • Dennis Westrick

Agree! Abbott is a good pitcher and the Reds No. 3 SP behind a healthy Greene and Burns! The leadoff walk and a seeing-eye flyball hurt him without a doubt!

      • Mark A Verticchio

Look at his career stats 33 and 38 and a 3.51 era, I will say good but not great.

      • greenmtred

Mark, the W/L record is not relevant. He hasn’t been pitching for a team that wins lots of games. National League average era is 4.25.

    • Mark A Verticchio

I agree more upset about Abbott’s control, or lack there of. However you can’t blame the fans for being upset about a team, that said it was ready to contend, basically being out of contention at the All Star break.

    • oklared

Good is quite different than average.

    • JB

Steer killing left hand pitching this year.

  17. Gpod

It has been refreshing not to listen to Sadek this weekend and his constant worthless constant blathering of random statistics…just let Tommy do the TV next season & send Sadek packing

    • Dennis Westrick

Where does one contribute to the Send Sadek Sailing fund?

      • Oldtimer

I think his name is Sadak. You may send funds to the Reds Spelling Bee charity.

    • RedsMonk65

I have enjoyed the Tommy-Larkin combo on TV this weekend as I typically do the Tommy-Cowboy duo on radio most games.

  18. Justin T

Does the Reds hitting coach get some credit for what Elly has been doing from the right side of the plate this year or does he just get credit for all the bad stuff?

    • JB

I’ll tell you what about Elly, that guy goes into the off-season and works his tail off. He fixed his defense and throws to first and his hitting from the right. The guy is a determined young man.

      • Jason T.

Absolutely a self starter. I give him credit all around for working on his craft and honing his skills.

      • Melvin

Yes. His all around game seems to keep improving. As far as his speed I think he’s being more careful to stay injury free if possible.

    • Melvin

Elly is one of the few guys who’s hitting has improved since his arrival. I agree.

    • greenmtred

Good question, Justin. And, JB, you’re right about Elly.

  19. Dennis Westrick

Once again, Geno strikes out swinging on a pitch well outside of the strike zone with RISP! Wash, rinse, repeat!

    • Oldtimer

My boxscore says Suarez hit 2 run HR next time. I presume Reds won’t DFA him in mid game.

  20. Gpod

I really do not know why any pitcher would throw Suarez a strike…almost always swings at pitches so far out of the strike zone that it’s mind boggling

  21. Jason T.

Average Andrew Abbott with a very nice inning.
    Bring the bats Reds.

  22. Dennis Westrick

Nice bounce back inning by Abbott!

  23. Dennis Westrick

Update from Pittsburgh! Pirates have scored 2 touchdowns but gave up a safety!

  24. Richard Fitch

    Stephenson just got BABIP’d.

    • Mark Moore

He did tag it … nicely executed layout from Swanson.

  25. Hanawi

Was on the Marte train for awhile, but the at-bats are starting to get to a point where he’s been given enough of an opportunity that it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to click, especially if you discount some of the pre-drug ban stuff. I’d give him through the end of the year but starting to pencil it in that he’s not going to be part of the future.

  26. Jason T.

Hayes “shafting” that hit. Beautiful defense.

    • VaRedsFan

      It was.
But, Thrall saying he’s the only one on the team that can catch a line drive a few feet over his head is preposterous.

Sal has made several of those, three times as hard.

      • Melvin

I don’t want to belittle that catch. It was very good. I agree though. He’s not the only one.

    • Dennis Westrick

Yes, he has! Hoping he can get thru 5 innings!

  27. Mark Moore

Finished mowing (trying to get ahead of the cabbage) and settled in just as the 2nd wrapped and we took them down in the 3rd. Nice hustle from Abbott beating “that kid” to the base.

I see from the comments and score it was a rough first inning.

  28. Gpod

I really don’t think the reds pitching is the pressing huge issue going forward….but this offense is constantly…day in and day out inept…except for a game here and there

  29. Jason T.

Sal just continues to impress. All of this as a rookie. He’s fun to watch.

  30. VaRedsFan

Hunter Greene is such a well-spoken young man.
I hope he can stay healthy, and see just how special he be.

    • Jason T.

Glad he’s pitching for the Reds. His parents seem wonderful too. Raised the right way. Very well spoken.

    • Dennis Westrick

He and Burns both! Reds are lucky to have them anchoring the pitching staff!

  31. Melvin

Good situational hitting by Steer. Got the run in. Thumbs up.

  32. Melvin

J.J. Bleday. Mr. Cool name gets the RBI.

    • RedsMonk65

Does anyone else think that JJ Bleday looks like similar to Christian Bale, the actor?

      Maybe just me …

  33. Jason T.

Nice job by Bleday. Nice to get some runs across the plate.

  34. VaRedsFan

    Awesome JJ….
Oppo hitting by Sal and JJ rearing it’s successful head again.

Thought Sal was a dead duck…finally, it wasn’t a perfect throw home.

  35. greenmtred

Has Suarez ever gotten a challenge right?

    • greenmtred

Geno is forgiven for the challenge.

  36. Mark A Verticchio

That is what 15 million dollars should get you.

  37. Dennis Westrick

Normally I look away when Geno is batting these days! And then that!

  38. VaRedsFan

Hoerner kicked Sal as he crossed first base.
    Inadvertent.

  39. Dennis Westrick

I’m OK with Abbott walking “Reds Killer” Happ there to load the bases!

  40. Jim Walker

The Cubs guy (Hoener) who just kicked Stewart’s ankle on that play 1b needs to be shown the yellow card! Maybe even a direct red card if VAR thinks it looked intentional!

    • greenmtred

Sal needed to flop convincingly. Stoicism isn’t rewarded in soccer.

  41. Hanawi

Not sure you can consider Abbott anything more than a 4th or 5th starter at this point. Even on his good days, he’s so inefficient that he can rarely give you more than 5 innings.

  42. LDS

If I were the Reds, I’d be real hesitant to trade Geno a the break. He likes Cincinnati. He wants to be there. And I think there’s still gas in the tank. In fact, I’d be more inclined to move guys like McLain or even Steer. McLain is starting to remind me of India – great 1st year and subpar subsequent years.

    • VaRedsFan

I’m in the camp where MMC should get a chance to fix things in the minors. And one more shot with the Reds.
Arroyo success or failure determines if he even gets another chance.

  43. Steve

Boy, Abbott hasn’t looked good most all season. I can’t tell if he’s “trying a new pitching philosophy” like trying to copy Glavine, or trying a new pitch. But, whatever it is, it’s not working.

    • greenmtred

Abbott had a rough start to the season, but has been largely good, since. Pitching at the margins is necessary and what works for him, but it does lead to some walks.

    • RedsMonk65

While not absolutely great this year, he’s looked better than most of the Reds’ starters outside of Burns. All-Star last year. I’d keep him around.

  44. Mark Moore

And we get bit by the growing pains.

    • Jason T.

The actual 2nd base? Not sure I follow.

      • Mark Moore

My bad then – didn’t realize it hit the bag. Thought he misplayed it.

Redemption on clipping PCA either way 😀

  45. Jason T.

    Very unfortunate bounce there. Tough.

  46. Dennis Westrick

Abbott was one pitch away from getting out of trouble! Not to be unfortunately!

  47. Roger Garrett

At times its simply putting the ball in play that makes the difference.

  48. Mark A Verticchio

More and more people are starting to agree that Abbott is nothing more than a 4th or 5th starter. His team gives him a 2 run lead, first two batters = walk and a double.

    • Richard Fitch

Who are these people you speak of? You shouldn’t hang out with them. They’re not too smart.

      • Mark A Verticchio

You should look at the past post and his performance. The point is on many staffs he would be the #4 or #5 starter.

    • Jason T.

Walks haunt. Sure. Abbott also sat an extended amount of time while the Reds scored. Cubs also can hit.
Terrible take on Abbott in my opinion but you’re certainly entitled to yours.

    • Hanawi

Yep. His K/BB ratio has gone up as has his FIP. He’s averaging barely 5 inning per start this year. Pretty clear stats that he’s just a guy at this point.

      • Richard Fitch

Sure. He’s already provided 13 career WAR for the Reds and has a career 3.51 ERA. Pretty clear you’re just a guy, too. A guy looking to dump on Abbott prematurely.

      • Hanawi

Funny that you talked about the importance of FIP in your comment below when Abbott’s have always been way worse than his ERA. He had a good year last year, but that looks like the outlier in his career. 7 QS in 19 outings is mediocre. Sorry his stats this year aren’t on your side.

      • Richard Fitch

Yeah, Abbott’s not been as good this year. How does 13.2 WAR make last year an outlier? The original comment was that Abbott is nothing more than a 4th or 5th starter, which is decidedly not true given his career numbers. The 2026 season isn’t even over yet and you’re taking a dump on the guy. Take the sourpuss attitude somewhere else. We’ve got enough of that here already.

      • Hanawi

I see you have not addressed anything I’ve said in my posts once again.

      • Dennis Schiavone

I’m afraid if Abbott is pounding the strike he would not fool anybody He seems to keep batters off stride with his bit of wildness

  49. Richard Fitch

Yet another example of the value of FIP. Pitchers have no control of balls put in play.

  50. Mark A Verticchio

I am beginning to feel that I was wrong about Marte, he is failing miserably.

  51. Roger Garrett

Often the most important inning in the game is the one after your team scores. The worst thing then or any time is to walk the lead off man.

    • Roger Garrett

Boyd understands that and we don’t and go down on 7 pitches.Back to grip and rip on offense.

  52. Roger Garrett

Marte has been a part time player and the only way he can become a starter is to hit when he plays. He does have as long of a rope as others so he must realize that and produce when he plays.

  53. greenmtred

Marte just had a little adventure in right field.

  54. Mark Moore

    Bike Helmets are always welcome.

    • Jason T.

Hope Petty pitches well in relief the rest of the season. May have found his spot.

      • greenmtred

Petty certainly has the stuff, and the Reds could use a multi-inning guy.

  55. RedsGettingBetter

Abbott is out early , I wonder if he also is hurt …

  56. Mark Moore

Thrall and Barry talking end of Barry’s career vs. early Verlander. Then Barry breaks into facing Billy Wagner (blast from the past name). Really enjoyed the two of them calling games.

    • greenmtred

It does seem to bring out the best in Barry.

    • Melvin

I must admit I’ve enjoyed listening to them this weekend.

  57. Melvin

That ball was not that of Marte. Steer called it.

  58. JB

Abbott is a fine 3rd starter on a team with Burns and Greene as 1-2. Nobody on the team or in AAA or even AA is better than Abbott. He was an All Star last year and isn’t having that All Star year but he is dealing with stuff this year. Holding runners on has been a problem and I’m sure it has affected him. I’ll take Abbott all day and every day as the 3rd starter until Lowder or someone else steps up. He gives the Reds a chance every game and don’t think these pitchers aren’t thinking about the Reds hitters troubles of driving in runs. They aren’t stupid and are trying to be perfect.

    • Mark A Verticchio

Nothing against Abbott but the Reds can do better for a #3 starter, I still have hopes for Lauder or even Lodolo.

      • JohnnySofa

Much easier said than done. By today’s standards, Abbott is a reliable 3rd starter, which pretty hard to come by. He’s progressively pitched more innings year over year, yet he’s younger than Lodolo. Personally, I’d rather know what I’m getting than continually hope a guy can stay healthy enough to pitch.

      • JB

You mean Lodolo who continuously said you wanted traded because he is unreliable or overrated or something else rediculous

    • Hanawi

At some point, you need your #3 starter to give you innings. 5 innings per start is not going to cut it. And he certainly doesn’t “give you a chance every game” since he’s now at 7 quality starts in 20 outings. That’s not a low bar to clear. My feeling is the the ABS system really hurts him because he lives on the corner and isn’t getting the calls he got last year.

      • JB

Abbott averages 5.32 innings per start. So 5 isn’t going to cut you say?

      • Hanawi

Counting today it’s 5.25 and he hasn’t gotten an out in the 7th inning of a game this year. Yes, that’s not going to cut it. Quality starts includes an inning limit for a reason.

      • JB

Burns averages 5.72 ,Schlitter, King, Glas now,S. Gray, Detmers, Soriano etc all average below 6.

      • Hanawi

Not really sure what that random collection of guys is supposed to say? Glasnow has started 7 games (and has QS in over half of them), Detmers is a JAG. Gray and Schlitter are among the league leaders in quality starts.

      • JohnnySofa

The Reds have some issues to address (OF is at the top of the list for about the fourth straight year). Abbott is not among those issues.

    • Oldtimer

Reds #3 starters in years where they won the NL Pennant or NL West/Central Division:

      1961 Bob Purkey
      1970 Jim Merritt
      1972 & 73 Ross Grimsley
      1975 & 76 + 79 Fred Norman
      1990 Jack Armstrong
      1995 Mark Portugal
      2010 Mike Leake
      2012 Homer Bailey

No HOF-ers there. Abbott may be comparable to Grimsley or Norman.

  59. RedsGettingBetter

Petty has done his job through 2 ip

  60. Roger Garrett

Run Marte and force them to make a play.

  61. RedsGettingBetter

As usual , The Reds hitters erupt in one inning but after that they absolutely cool off…

  62. Roger Garrett

When Geno went deep I thought well thats all we will get.Its like someone flips a switch and says ok boys its home run derby time so grip it and rip it.Of course I am just being sarcastic but it happens so often that way.Oppo worked early in that inning then boom and well it is what it is.

  63. Roger Garrett

Sam in with all these righties after CPA.Interesting now with CPA driving in the lead run.

    • Mark Moore

      I like that … “CPA” 😀

      +10,000

  64. Mark Moore

    Couldn’t get 2 … didn’t get 1. I agree Moll should have fielded it.

  65. Mark A Verticchio

What a circus, you have to get an out on that.

  66. VaRedsFan

Just wait for it to get to you Arroyo.

    • VaRedsFan

Foot on bag, field it like a 1st baseman

  67. Kevin H

Arroyo will make that play next time. His ability to learn and improve since being up has shown.

  68. Roger Garrett

Its just what this team does. The opposition just waits till we mess up knowing we will eventually and with our one dimensional offense we stand little chance to overcome out mistakes.

  69. Mark A Verticchio

It’s beginning to look like another loss, 23 and 41 since the 20 and 11 start.

  70. Mark Moore

    Ballgame …

Catch you all Friday. Have a great week. I’ve been on PTO for 2 so we’ll see what re-entry looks like tomorrow.

  71. RedsMonk65

    Rats. How I hate Bregman.

Reds need to kick it into gear …

  72. greenmtred

I’d say goodnight, all, but it’s a day game. Of course it’s still technically possible for the Reds to win.

  73. Roger Garrett

That friends is the ball game.Sam against all of those righties was just an accident waiting to happen and the Cubs 35 million dollar man who most Cubs fans have called for his head delivers. We have found the enemy and it is us.

  74. Dennis Westrick

Reruns of Murder She Wrote are looking better all the time!

  75. Roger Garrett

Elly never takes the bat off his shoulder so I will check out.Seen enough.

    • Kevin H

Looking back at that ab He had a keen eye and got froze on the slider. He isn’t so much a free swinger as he used to be.

  76. Mark A Verticchio

Poor choice to bring in Moll with all those right handed hitters up oh well, it’s just been an awful year = 43 and 52. 67 games left I predict 20 and 47 to finish 63 and 99.

  77. Melvin

Steer with another multi hit game as a CF. 😉

  78. Dennis Westrick

The ongoing problem with the Reds is complex! In addition to the inconsistent offense is that, more often than not, the SPs seldom pitch beyond the 5th inning! Hard to play RP Roulette game after game and not have at least one of the RPs implode on the mound.

    • Kevin H

The word I have used the last month or so if FRustraTing!!!

  79. Kevin H

You know I see talent when I watch this team. I do, however I see holes as well if that makes sense. Today bullpen rears its ugly head, however lately been good as well as starting pitching.

I swear if they could get hot and make a run I truly feel they can still get in the playoffs. IN saying that they have not shown the ability.

To me Lowder looks so much better pitching out of bullpen.

  80. Mark A Verticchio

Just saw the pitching line up after the break. It upsets me that the Cardinals will miss Burns again. They will see Lauder, Greene and Abbott. Sorry I just can’t stand them.

    • VaRedsFan

      Coming off minor injury…extra time.
      Inning limit incoming.

It’s not that hard to figure out.

  81. dimondfvr

Does anyone see any changes after the break? Or should we anticipate the same product on the field?

    • dimondfvr

Not meant to be a loaded question.

      • Chris

I imagine teams will be slobbering over themselves trying to pry some of our players away from us and offer little in return that we need.

  82. Doc4uk

Tito making bad decisions. Why not bring in Lowder instead of Johnson when Moll was removed? Johnson and Ferguson have been getting knocked around pretty well as of later. Lowder could have finished the game out at that point and he will have plenty of rest over the break.

  83. Kevin H

One last comment on Thrall and Larkin.

I think this weekend has shown Larkin can do play by play if the lead announcer does his job?

    • RedsMonk65

Color commentary, certainly. Lead announcer is play-by-play. I have enjoyed the pairing this weekend, too. Larkins seems to pair better with Thrall than with Sadak.

      • Kevin H

Sorry, thank you for correcting me!!! Lol

  84. Chris

Why wouldn’t we want to walk the first two batters of the ninth. Another blister??

  85. Kevin H

“Steer has no business in cf” I thought I read from earlier in thread. I guess they were wrong again

    • RedsMonk65

Steer is the type of ballplayer everyone wants on their team. To be sure, he’s better at some positions rather than others, but the dude comes to play, and play well.

      • JB

Except the Reds fans. They would rather keep Suarez over Steer or Hinds etc.

  86. Mark A Verticchio

The truth is Steer has not done a bad job in CF in his 2 games there. Sure he dropped a tough ball today but that would have been a very tough play for anybody, trying to stay positive.

  87. Jim Walker

Checking up on some old friends as this game grinds to its seemingly inevitable conclusion.

I discovered Rece Hinds is back in “the show” with the Marlins. Actually, I’m surprised because he had been scuffling with their AAA team, not a dominant player like he was with the AAA Bats. But he had a big game earlier in the week and……

Jose Barrero and CES are with the Orioles AAA Squad. CES is on the Orioles 40 man roster. Barrero is not on the 40 man roster. Also, pitcher Yosver Zulueta, who was with the Reds in 2025, is with the Orioles AAA team and on their 40 man roster.

    • JB

Scuffling is putting it nicely. He finally got in a game today and struck out. Shocked!

  88. Jason T.

Very nice hit Arroyo. Solid contact again.

  89. Chris

Seems like hitters losing their bats on a swing has significantly increased I wonder why?

  90. Kevin H

Going back to cubs 4 run 7th I think it was.

Stewart missed a ball and Arroyo caught in-between on his play. I believe that is what happens with younger players playing. Gotta have patience and know they both will get better. They are good now and improving. My point,or thought is they will make those plays(Stewart play was a tough one to make mind you) in the future.

  91. Mark A Verticchio

Not a good day for Sal. However a good first half.

  92. Kevin H

Frustrating first half of baseball for sure.

  93. DataDumpster

The Arroyo misplay reminds me of a mistake I made at age 12 playing first base. A high hopper came straight to me and I fielded the ball a little bit back of the bag. The runner beat me. Of course, the coach yelled at me something like “go get the ball, don’t let it play you.” Never forget that day 50 odd years ago. My career ended at age 14. Arroyo could have charged the ball to get it and then dive back to the base to easily get the out. That was a pathetic “misplay” Imao.
