Chase Burns

If there’s a part of the game in which Chase Burns has struggled this season, it’s  with left-handed batters. Seven of the nine home runs he’s allowed have been to lefty hitters, and lefties are just getting on base at a clip of .306 against him. He’s also allowed one home run in each of his last three starts. Of course, he’s also struck out 27 of the 66 batters he faced in those three starts.

Lucas Giolito

The Padres signed Lucas Giolito to a one-year deal with an option for 2027 on April 22, 2026. San Diego has had major injuries to their starting rotation early in the season, and Giolito, coming off Tommy John surgery in 2024 and another minor elbow issue in 2025, was available for them to sign at that time. Giolito had been a free agent and went unsigned in the offseason. He made his season debut on May 17 against Seattle, pitching five innings and earning the win while allowing three runs on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts. He had another stellar start against the Athletics in his second start of the season, but in his most recent two starts, he’s allowed eleven hits and six earned runs in 6.2 innings.

The Reds have only faced Giolito three times, but they’ve hit him well when they have faced him. In 14.1 innings, the Reds have the highest team OPS against Giolito at 1.109.  Eugenio Suárez and Matt McLain have both homered off him in limited at-bats. Spencer Steer has two hits against him (likely why Steer got the day off yesterday instead of today), and Nathaniel Lowe has the most-at-bats against him with five hits in 19 at-bats, including two doubles.

No Marte, Why bring him up if Tito refuses to play him?

    • Wayne Nabors

As most would say on this site cause he’s a hall of famer

      • 70times7

Hall of famer. Yes. Human, yes. Makes mistakes, yes. Manager of last place team? Yes. Play Marte

    • BK

I suspect it’s because Suarez is 1 for 3 with an HR and 2 RBI vs. Giolito. Marte is just 1 for 4 against Giolito. To me, it’s small sample size data, but Francona has cited such data before other games.

      • Richard Fitch

Ridiculous. I remember Dusty Baker doing this with a Reds hitter who was 4 for 6 against a AL pitcher … over an entire career. People refuse to acknowledge small sample data, which is highly misleading. Too many fans continue to believe players can control how they hit with RISP. Dumb.

    • LDS

Because, as the article points out, some of these guys hit Giolito very well, like Lowe. Marte is exactly lighting up the diamond

      • BK

5 for 19 is not exactly good; his OPS was among the Reds’ lowest against Giolito, too, even with the two doubles. But its true that Lowe has seen Giolito more than any other current Red.

      • LDS

Yep, typo. I meant Marte isn’t. Marte has loads of talent. But I’ve never been convinced that he has the work ethic to succeed.

  2. chris

if Marte and Arroyo don’t get consistent at bats they aren’t going to be able to help this team.

  3. Mark A Verticchio

It’s a good thing Tito wasn’t the manager in 2023 or that exciting season would have never happened because the young guys would have never played.

    • billmummer

That’s true, Mark…and how about the exciting base running, taking extra bases and base stealing that year? That would never have happened under Tito…he is WAY too conservative and does let them try to manufacture runs nearly enough.

    • greenmtred

I wondered whether I would live long enough to see nostalgia for the Bell years at RLN. Yes, Tito is currently the Manager of a last place team. Sparky Anderson also managed a last place team. Plenty of great managers have had that experience when their players were not as good as the competition.

      • LDS

Haha, there’s not enough booze in the bar to make me nostalgic for Bell. Though I do suspect that the Reds FO may not have backed up their sales pitch to Tito with action.

      • BK

Yep! “It’s not about the X’s and O’s; it’s about the Jimmies and Joes.” I’m not sure who said it first, but it’s often repeated by professional coaches.

      • CI3J

Tito is missing his two 2 WAR players in Greene and Elly.

He’s also had to deal with Friedl, Hayes, Geno, Santillan, and Pagan (before the injury) falling off a cliff.

The Reds made a big mistake by over-investing in aging players. That’s always a dangerous game, and this season has reminded everyone why.

  4. Dennis Westrick

Hate being right, but I went to bed last night with the Reds leading 2-1 hoping they could hang on! But, no! The Reds found another way to lose a game! This time it was the fumbling, bumbling attempts to field not ONE but THREE bunts! If it’s not leaving RISP it’s errors or bad baserunning!

It’s time to turn this thing around! Every winning streak starts with one win! Let tonight be that night! Let’s score early and often and let Chase Burns be great!

  5. Gary Albert

I hope the Reds hire a competent new pitching coaches who can help out pitchers pitch not just throw! Hitting coaches too.

  6. Mark A Verticchio

With this season all but over Tito needs to play guys like Dunn, Marte and Arroyo almost every game.

  7. CI3J

Marte and Arroyo really need to play every day.

At this point, the Reds have nothing to lose. They need to see what they’ve got in those two players.

    • Mark A Verticchio

I think we all agree now someone needs to tell Francona to wake up.

  8. Old-school

The bullpen is the worst in baseball
But lets get distracted by the lineup

I love geno but looking like at 35 father time may be catching up

That said…. Anyone that says bench Geno and his $15 million contract and future Reds Hall of fame inductee on june 9 doesnt actually live in the real world

I like marte and he needs to play but steer and Arroyo and Dunn deserve to play too not to mention Bleday and and lowe against tough righties

    Its the bullpen!!!!!!

    • Mark A Verticchio

Geno is not the future, gamble that has failed big time. That attitude has held this team back for a long time.

      • VaRedsFan

        Geno is the present though.
one third of the season is not the time to abandon ship.

Or maybe you would like to go into the locker room and tell them the season is over.

      • Old-school

Cut the Reds hall of famer on june 9 when worst bullpen in MLB.

Its not injuries to hunter green or Lodolo or lowder or Pagan or ashcraft or underperformance from santillan or Phillips or Friedl or Stephenson or Benson or Hayes or McLain

Suarez is absolutely 1/13 th of the problem but no more

That doesnt even bring up 5+ other players who arent big leaguers

Its not a good team across the board but a good manager could make this team 8 over?

    • David

Yes, it is the bullpen. Pitching wins games. The Reds’ starting pitching has been off and on, but the bullpen has really deteriorated. There is no one that Francona can count on every time they go out there, unless it’s Tejay Antone, and he has to be handled carefully.

    • 70times7

Of course it’s the pen. But Geno is bringing zero value to this team

      • David

        Wow, that’s HARSH!

It’s early yet, and he missed some time with an injury.

      • David

Aaaaaand, Eugenio strikes out with the bases loaded.

        THE GUY IS A BUM!

  9. Andrew Brewer

McLain and Ty Steve combine for the first Reds run … oh, the irony of it !

    • Andrew Brewer

Arroyo then wins the foul ball trophy of the day with 9 in one at bat … the kid is learning quickly though.

    • Andrew Brewer

These two guys are providing a one-two punch that we just haven’t seen all year. Both of them were below the Mendoza line just a couple weeks ago. Now they are the dynamic duo.

    • Andrew Brewer

He was bit intimated when he started out, but he’s showing some spunk now.

      • CI3J

Just needs to learn to lay off those pitches outside the zone.

He could have walked several times in that AB.

  10. Andrew Brewer

Burns recovered nicely after that 4 pitch walk (where did that come from ?) to Taylor.
And the Padres come up empty in the 2nd.

  11. Mark A Verticchio

Burns got out of the inning but he threw a lot of pitches and with the Reds bull pen that is a big deal.

  12. RedsGettingBetter

Burns get out of the jam unscathed… He’s at 28 pitches after throwing just 6 in the first…

  13. Andrew Brewer

Good challenge by Sal; Bleday on first with one out.

    • Andrew Brewer

Sal with his second walk of the day, men on 1st and 2nd, one out.

      • Andrew Brewer

They could have challenged there … but I don’t think they wanted to give Lowe anything to swing at. Bases loaded.

  14. Roger Garrett

I see a crooked number right here but hurry up its my time to go nighty night

    • VaRedsFan

You’ll have to settle for a straight number.
1 is better than none I guess.

  15. VaRedsFan

Sal has the most ABS challenges as a batter
27….which is 9 more than the next closest guy

Coming into the game, he had 17 right, and 10 wrong
    63%

  16. Oldtimer

    OTD in 1990.

Reds trade P Ron Robinson and Bob Sebra (who?) to MIL for OF Glenn Braggs and INF Billy Bates.

Braggs played a key role as 4th OF (LF Hatcher CF Davis RF O’Neill) and Bates played a role in the 1990 WS sweep. Scored winning run in one of the four games.

  17. Chris

Opportunity to break the game open right here

  18. Andrew Brewer

Put it in play and good things happen ! One run in and Geno to the plate… but his slump continues.

    • Andrew Brewer

Yep, we should have put up a crooked number … at least we got one. 2-0 Reds

  19. CincyDo

I am at the game. Of course Suarez struck out and Mclajn grounded out with bases loaded. Smh

  20. Mark A Verticchio

Suarez continues to struggle, sometimes you just have to admit a bad signing.

  21. Jason T.

Thanks for nothing Suarez and McLain. Left bases loaded, smh…
Reds just love to strand runners.

  22. dimondfvr

Another wasted opportunity! Where have we heard that before? Suarez is just having a terrible time of it!

  23. RedsGettingBetter

Giolito is struggling a lot but Geno is worse right now …incredible…
I can’t believe the Reds just score 1 run in this inning…How bad it can be ?

  24. Dennis Westrick

Sorry folks! Suarez has been a major bust so far!

  25. Mark A Verticchio

I just hope we don’t look back at that inning in a couple hours.

    • David

Oh, it only took the home half of the third inning, not hours.

      Game tied.

  26. dimondfvr

Five players left on base after 3 innings. 1-4 with runners in scoring position.

  27. Richard Fitch

It wouldn’t be the first time a 35-year old player’s career collapsed. However, he did lose serious time to injury. Over and over again, we’ve seen players suffer from missed time as they attempt to reclaim their swing from injury. I would think a oblique injury is particularly consequential for a power hitter who even now healthy must worry about re-injury every time he takes a big swing. In other words, it may be a mental inability to allow his body to commit.

He’s only been active again for about 3 weeks. Let it play out. The Reds need him.

    • VaRedsFan

      Thank you.
The belly-aching about him is nauseating. Mostly by the same 2-3 uninformed posters though…but they feel the need to repeat it after every AB.
He’s a proven he can slug a little.

  28. Andrew Brewer

They asked Ty Cobb, How do you think you’d do against today’s pitching… Oh, I’d probably hit about .270, he said. Wow, said the reporter, Yeah, but I’m 70 years old too.

  29. Jason T.

Padres had no problem getting Tatis in from first…

  30. Mark A Verticchio

That Suarez at bat turned this game around.

      • Mark A Verticchio

It could have been 4 to 0 different game.

      • dimondfvr

Bases loaded. Only one out. Giolito having trouble hitting the strike zone and it sounds like you are blaming Burns for Suarez’s poor showing. I’m scratching my head on that one!

      • Richard Fitch

Could’ve still been a 2-0 game had Burns been more effective. Guess it just depends upon who you want to scapegoat.

  31. RedsGettingBetter

Padres RH hitters just making contact against the slider away getting singles… The Reds didn’t take advantage of their chances and baseball punishes …

    • David

They are not hitting situationally. Suarez probably wanted to hit it 20 rows back in left field. He should have just concentrated on smacking the ball where it was pitched. A sac fly, and opposite field single. He’s probably a lot more frustrated with his AB than we are.

    • Andrew Brewer

Yeah, Machado hit a slider just outside, but the other two hits were fastballs, which is what I think they were sitting on.

  32. Andrew Brewer

Single, Triple, Single, and she’s all tied at 2 a piece.

    • Andrew Brewer

Two pitch arsenal has its limitations.

  33. Mark A Verticchio

The Reds are going to let this guy go 4 or 5 innings and then face that bull pen.

    • Andrew Brewer

Which is why he’ll go six, unless he’s just knocked off the mound.

      • Mark A Verticchio

Regardless the Reds had a chance to have a huge inning and Suarez struck out and the Mclain made an out. I don’t feel good about this game anymore.

  34. Andrew Brewer

Another opportunity with a runner in scoring position … comes up empty.

  35. Jason T.

And another runner left stranded on base. I do like Dunn running. Too bad no runs.

  36. RedsGettingBetter

I can’t believe the Reds can´t crushed this pitcher… Giolito has been really awful but the Reds have scored just 2 runs …

    • VaRedsFan

He’s really only awful against teams with better hitters.

    • Richard Fitch

The Reds as a team have a wRC+ of 94. That’s 24th in MLB. This team hasn’t been hitting anybody.

  37. Andrew Brewer

Burns walked Taylor on 4 pitches the first time up, and gets the K on 3 the second time.

    The Pads are showing bunt.

  38. Andrew Brewer

The Pads go down 1-2-3 in the 4th. Freddy Fermin is proving to be a tough out.

  39. Mark A Verticchio

Well the Padres will have a new pitcher, I just can’t believe they only scored 2 runs while getting 5 walks in 4 innings = bad bad baseball team.

  40. Andrew Brewer

I guess the Padres have seen enough of Gioloto … Does it matter to Reds hitters ?

    • Andrew Brewer

Reds with 6 walks and 2 hits… no, unless its Mason Miller out there, it doesn’t seem to make much difference.

  41. Mark A Verticchio

Sal had a bad at bat and Francona said nothing to him.

    • Andrew Brewer

And Steer went down on strikes… Sal has a rep around the League already. And he’s gaining some plate discipline. I think he was looking for another walk.

  42. Jeremiah

White Sox look like a fun team to root for. It’s been fun Reds fans, but I’m heading over to WhiteSoxNation and going to jump on their bandwagon!

    • Andrew Brewer

I thought about doing it, but it’s not something I can just do. It’s in my blood at this point.

    • Justin T

Yes they are exciting. They tore down and built back the right way. With personel people who have a clue. There are 3 first place teams who spent less than the Reds this year. Don’t let the “sell the team” crowd fool you. This season the Reds payroll is higher than every team in the division except Chicago. They even spent more than the White Sox this year.

13 teams have had more guys go on the IL this year than the Reds have—including the first place Brewers.

Their money is spent a little wiser too.

While we debate which .210 hitter should be in the lineup over the other one lets blame the guy filling the lineup card.

  43. Jeremiah

Just kidding…still have hope the Reds will beat the Padres. White Sox do look like the fun team this year though. Not sure the Reds have a lot of fun in them right now.

  44. RedsGettingBetter

Geno has been in 0-2 hole very often. It’s so hard to hit well in that spot…he struck out on just 3 pitches frequently

  45. 70times7

Geno now on interstate. Maybe he’ll take it back to Seattle

  46. Mark A Verticchio

Suarez return to Cincinnati has sure not gone as planned.

  47. Roger Garrett

Sal Lowe Steer and Geno made contact one time yes one time with 3 punch outs and a walk.Hitting is hard but it’s almost impossible with this team.I got up and checked and for what. Are you kidding me?Team meeting after being swept by the Cards isn’t working so far and you know the pen will have to cover at least 3 innings and maybe 4.Good grief.

  48. Jason T.

How Valaika has a job is beyond me.
Our hitting isn’t great but with runners on base it’s atrocious. No wonder we’re in control of last place.

    • Richard Fitch

“Hitting in leverage spots isn’t a skill over and above hitting. No players, and certainly no teams, have an ability to map their performance to situations. However, performance with runners in scoring position, especially in close games, goes a long way towards winning baseball games.”

      • Justin T

Some people concentrate and lock in better in bigger moments, its human nature. Some heart rates are more steady in higher pressure moments. But hitting is mechanics and timing. Technically good hitters hit in any situation and bad ones are bad in any situation. I don’t need ChatGpt or AI to tell me that.

  49. Mark A Verticchio

It pains me to say this but right now the Reds may be the worst team in baseball and headed for 90 plus losses after ending April 20 and 11. That is so sad.

    • Andrew Brewer

Maybe it is the will of the Baseball Gods.

  50. Andrew Brewer

Machado wouldn’t take the walk … and he pops out with Tatis on third.

Reds escape in the 5th, all tied up 2-2

  51. Andrew Brewer

Arroyo keeps our man on base per inning perfect !

    • Andrew Brewer

Dunn comes thru with a base knock … runners on 1st and 3rd, 2 outs.

      • 70times7

You know our bullpen’s gonna pitch tonight. There’s no stopping it

  52. Mark A Verticchio

As bad as we Reds fans feel I don’t think the Cubs fans feel much better, the lost to the Rockies tonight and are playing awful, now one over .500 at 34 and 33.

    • Andrew Brewer

What did that guy in the Burn’s Baseball documentary say ? In the end it’s all about losing. And we are on that end of the stick right now. Got to be able to handle a lot of it to stay in this game.

  53. RedsGettingBetter

Reds haven’t hit well against the other bullpens through the season…Generally they struggle when the opposite relievers come in…Let’s see this game

  54. Mark A Verticchio

I can’t believe it took the Reds until the 4th pitch to send Dunn, folks we have a problem with this baseball team.

  55. Jason T.

Reds strand 2 more in scoring position. You can’t make this up. Their ineptitude knows no bounds. No wonder we’re 2-9 in our last 11. Absolutely pathetic.

    • Mark A Verticchio

Worst team in baseball with runners in scoring position.

  56. RedsGettingBetter

Bleday battled but this lefty Morejon is tough…the bullpen difference between Padres and Reds is big

  57. CincyDo

Swining with their eyes closed probably has a better chance. They can’t see the ball with their eyes open anyway.

  58. Andrew Brewer

Big Drama there ! Lefty on Lefty with Morejon facing Bleday, men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs … Bleday knew the game was on the line even if it was just the 6th. No way he could lay off that pitch. Morejon wins.

  59. Mark A Verticchio

Not a good ending for Burns.

  60. Richard Fitch

Poor Chase Burns. Because of a crippled pitching staff, a very young man has been thrust into the role of stopper on a team that can’t hit.

  61. RedsGettingBetter

The same story as yesterday… Tito squeezes Burns because doesn’t have confidence in the bullpen but the kid is out of gas and can’t be effective putting in the game in jeopardy

  62. Andrew Brewer

Andujar comes on to face Burke with men on 2nd and 3rd, one out …

    • Andrew Brewer

and they intentionally walk him to load the bases !

  63. Mark A Verticchio

Great job by Lowe, now let’s get some runs boys.

  64. Andrew Brewer

How sweet is that ? Lowe to Stephenson to Lowe ends the Padre threat in the 6th.

  65. RedsGettingBetter

Tito has been successful giving the intentional walks recently

  66. RedsFanForLife

Good defensive play by Lowe and he’ll likely get pinch hit for by Myers against the lefty.

    • RedsFanForLife

Myers to CF, Dunn to RF and Steer to 1B.

      • RedsFanForLife

Marte should pinch hit for Suarez

  67. Andrew Brewer

Challenge it Sal ! and he did, overturned.

  68. Chris

When was last time Reds had a big inning?

    • JB

Sunday. They got 2 runs in the 3rd. That was a huge inning for them.

  69. Richard Fitch

The #1 bullpen in baseball is now locked up with the worst bullpen in baseball.

    Yikes.

  70. Andrew Brewer

I swear Myers is some thing else as a pinch hitter… uncanny

    • Andrew Brewer

He steals 2nd, and Geno fouled a couple taking the count to 3-2, but he needed a miracle that didn’t happen.

  71. RedsGettingBetter

Myers has been good for his role …

  72. Tony Cloninger

Now batting for Manny Mota. Dane Myers. We’ve got to concentrate. Concentrate.

  73. Chris

I bet the kids made fun of the pitcher s last name on school…til he grew big.

  74. ksdavis

For all the good he has done recently, Steer has now gone 5 games without a hit. Reds hitters are so inconsistent, and that is why they are an average at best team.

    • Richard Fitch

That’s baseball. All good hitters are inconsistent over 162 games. 5 games is nothing good or bad. The Reds as a team are 6% worse than league average. Steer is 17% better than league average.

He’s hardly the problem. Quite the contrary. If the Reds had a team of Spencer Steers in the lineup, they’d be offensively better than the Yankees.

  75. Chris

Francona finally letting the guys run tonight

  76. Mark A Verticchio

Suarez just continues to fail. How long will Francona allow this garbage to happen with Marte sitting on the bench?

    • Andrew Brewer

Geno just fell below the BA threshold. Time to rest him.

  77. Tony Cloninger

Better pitch to swing at than Matt got called on which Matt would have done little with.

  78. JB

Well here comes the 7th inning for the bullpen. It’s getting that time in the game where it all falls apart.

    • Andrew Brewer

Stephenson the McLain erases the Tatis steal attempt.

We’re onto the 8th, and need it to happen !

  79. RedsGettingBetter

I feel bad for Geno…even can’t put the ball in play…When the team needs him to take care of business after Elly got injured he couldn’ have been that guy

    • Mark A Verticchio

It probably won’t happen but how can you let him bat again?

  80. Chris

Be a shame to lose this game the way the team has battled.

    • RedsGettingBetter

The problem now is the nasty guys for the Padres come in

  81. Andrew Brewer

Awright, the leading lady is on first in the 8th !

    Let ‘s go Reds !

  82. JB

Wasn’t even close as a strike Stephenson

  83. RedsGettingBetter

Wow why Steve didn’t challenge? That was ball 4

  84. Andrew Brewer

! Challenge ! but he didn’t, and then gets the walk anyway. Men on 1st and 2nd.

    • Andrew Brewer

Good call to bunt, but Arroyo couldn’t execute it. One down.

  85. Andrew Brewer

The daring young man steals third, Dunn at the plate.

    Two down.

    • Andrew Brewer

Once again the Reds can’t manage to bring that runner home… Still 2-2 going into the Padre half of the 8th.

  86. RedsFanForLife

Who are these Runnin Reds? That’s why we have to get more athletic. Bleday, Lowe, Geno and Stephenson won’t run

  87. CincyDo

Looking at strikes and swing g at balls. Where did Reds players learn baseball

  88. RedsFanForLife

If Tito doesn’t want to start Marte, I’m for starting Myers over Geno at this point

  89. RedsGettingBetter

How can the Reds win? They refuse to score runs now…unbelievable

  90. Mark A Verticchio

12 men left on and 1 for 10 with RISP = this is a bad team and I have know idea when they will win again. For all the Good he has done that was an awful at bat by Dunn.

  91. Jeremiah

Arroyo should have been bunting I thought to get the runners in scoring position…Boy Reds just not a good team right now.

  92. DW

On a positive note…McLain and Stephenson have finally been playing some good baseball. I know McLain made the crucial error the other night, but he has looked great the last few games otherwise. Hoping he has figured something out.

  93. ksdavis

So how many runs will Tony give up?

  94. Andrew Brewer

Santillan replaces Ferguson. Francona is doing what he wants.

We need that dbl play ball !

    • Andrew Brewer

Missed a strike three challenge but got the K anyway ! 2 down

  95. Chris

Dunn!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saved the game right there!

  96. JB

I would rather have Dunn in Center but I’m glad he was in right.

    • Melvin

I was just about to post the exact same thing. haha

Dunn is the BEST outfielder we have. As long he can hit good enough CF should be his permanent position.

  97. Mark A Verticchio

Dunn saves the game for now. Know how can the Reds score against Miller?

    • Andrew Brewer

Have to hold the Padres in the bottom of the inning and go into extras.

  98. Andrew Brewer

Reds hold ’em in the 8th ! It’s going down to the wire.

  99. Jeremiah

Cubs look like a down year too. Don’t think their starting pitching will be good enough to make it to the playoffs, and their Offense really struggling. NL Central starting to not look quite as good as a month ago.

    • VaRedsFan

Cubs have 4 SP’s on the IL.
But apparently people think that the Reds are the only team with injury issues.

It’s an MLB issue, not just a Reds issue

  100. RedsGettingBetter

Dunn salvages the Reds for the time being

  101. Andrew Brewer

And who will close for the Reds tonight ?

    • Andrew Brewer

Francona wants Santillan on the mound …

  102. Mark A Verticchio

8 walks and 2 runs that is so bad it is sad. They only have 5 hits and that is the problem, they never have a big inning because they can’t hit worth a lick.

  103. Mark A Verticchio

I guess Moll gets to end another game, his confidence can’t be high.

  104. Andrew Brewer

Moll takes the hill with men on 1st and 2nd, 1 out.

    • Andrew Brewer

Moll vs. Machado with the bags full … Manny can’t be happy, but we are !

  105. JB

Basically a swinging bunt gets us tonight. You just can’t make this crap up.

    • Oldtimer

They’re playing a 10th inning anyway despite the game being declared over in bottom of the 95h.

      • Oldtimer

        I hate typos. I wish I could edit them. 9th, not 95h.

  106. Mark A Verticchio

Moll came through when I doubted him. Please score boys.

  107. Andrew Brewer

But Moll gets thru the inning !

We’re onto the 10th. It ain’t over ’til it’s over but I gotta check out.

    Root the Reds home !

  108. RedsFanForLife

    Geno gets another start tomorrow!

  109. Brian1

    Finally… dude was 3 for last 40 at .075
The Reds need him to turn it on now!!!

  110. RedsFanForLife

A sac bunt by MM and we get another run with the Stephenson hit

  111. Mark A Verticchio

I agree with Cowboy terrible base running by Benson, he has to know where the short stop is playing. That may cost the Reds the ball game.

    • Richard Fitch

Cowboy was wrong and he knew it right after he said it and watched the replay. Benson would have risked interference.

      • VaRedsFan

Was about to type the same thing. The ball was hit in front of Benson too.

If he’d have been thrown out, or interference, the usual suspects would have lit him up..

  112. Lex

Sorry to be THAT guy but I don’t have a great feeling going into the bottom inning. 0% chance we win this game

    • Lex

Reverse JINX! Works every time!! (Maybe 30% of time at best) go reds!

  113. RedsFanForLife

Only Maxwell, McCambley and Paddack left in the bullpen

  114. Chris

This game seems like it’s been going on for hrs and hrs and hrs. Exhausting.

  115. Mark A Verticchio

I thought that was out, They needed to score that add on run. With what’s left in the pen the need about 10 this inning.

  116. Mark A Verticchio

Great job Sal, that won’t be enough.

  117. Chris

Oh Sal! This has been an entertaining game that’s for sure.

  118. Jeremiah

Great catch by Dunn in the 8th, he’s been impressive overall even if not hitting Defense saving runs. Stewart with the Homer! Reds will hang on to this one right?

  119. JB

Antone come back out? He threw 13 pitches last night. McCambley threw 32 last night. Doubt he is available. Maxwell or Paddock. Good Lord.

  120. Jeremiah

Sung Mun Song coming up for the Padres…that’s quite an interesting name.

  121. Mark A Verticchio

Well Maxwell has a chance to stick around awhile, just throw strikes young man.

  122. Jeremiah

Big Sugar comes through, Reds win!

  123. Richard Fitch

Maxwell’s Silver Hammer. Write it up, Doug.

  124. Goldenbear

Maybe the best win of the year. I, know, one of the most fun.

    • Lex

It is tampered a bit by the state of affairs but yes- all else aside: terrific ballgame!!
