The Cincinnati Reds have only played baseball on one day over the last four days thanks to an off day and a bunch of rain. But on that one day they did play 20 innings of baseball and picked up a split in a doubleheader. Today they are in New York to take on the Mets and open up a three game series at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10pm ET.

Nick Lodolo

After missing the first five week so the season while dealing with a blister issue, Lodolo returned to the Reds rotation on May 8th. He’s struggled in his three games back, allowing 12 earned runs on 14 hits, nine walks, and three hit batters in just 15.0 innings.

The sample size is extremely small for the splits against Lodolo this season, but both left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters are hitting for a ton of power against him and walking nearly as much as they strike out. Righties aren’t hitting for much average, but lefties are hitting .333 in their limited chances against him.

Nolan McLean

The rookie of the year candidate has had a strong start to 2026. He’s made 10 starts and only at the end of two of them has his ERA on the season been higher than 3.00. That came after his first start when he allowed two runs in 5.0 innings and then after his most recent start when he gave up six earned and nine total in 5.2 innings to the Nationals. McLean had only allowed two home runs through his first seven starts, but he’s given up four in his last three.

The splits aren’t huge against McLean but they are in favor of lefties over righties a little bit in all categories. Right-handed hitters are hitting for a very low average, don’t walk, don’t make contact, and don’t hit for power. Left-handed hitters make way more contact and walk more, and while they are hitting better for both average and power, they still hit for a low average and no power.

News and Notes

Brady Singer to pitch Saturday

Yesterday it was announced that the Reds would skip Brady Singer in the rotation. We wrote about all of that here. But today manager Terry Francona noted to the media in his pre-game interview that Singer would pitch on Saturday and that, as reported by Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 in Cincinnati, the hope is he can spend the week with pitching coach Derek Johnson and have a bit of a reset.

Winning against everyone else

The Cincinnati Reds are 25-15 against non-divisional opponents this season. They are just 2-10 against teams from the National League Central. Can they keep that going against the New York Mets, who were not placed in the NL Central overnight while we all slept – I double checked.

Finally the other NL Central teams are playing each other, so the Reds have a real chance to make up some ground here, if they can win a few games.

  2. CI3J

Also, I’m happy the Tito seems to have settled on Blake Dunn as his leadoff hitter already.

I’ll say this for Tito: He’s not stubborn about his lineup construction. He’s always trying to put the right hitters in the right places until he finds something that works.

  3. RedsFanForLife

Jared Kelenic DFAd. Seems like a player that the FO would go after. Cash considerations, so no player lost.

    • RedsFanForLife

He has no options, so maybe not. Unless he clears waivers and selects to become a FA. Then maybe sign him on a minor league deal

    • CI3J

      Hopefully not.

Only one season with an OPS+ over 100, and that was 3 years ago.

He’s like a younger-but-worse version of TJ Friedl.

      • Tom Mitsoff

I don’t think they’ll cut Friedl outright. He might be in a trade before the deadline. And of course, we don’t know how long Dunn will keep hitting and getting on base. While he is, I’m all in favor of playing him.

      • Roger Garrett

Friedl and Benson are redundant as far as lefties that can’t hit lefties. Not sure about Benson and why he made the team and is still on the team,Friedl has had 2 bad months and Benson well you know can’t hit.Somebody said and I can agree he is a good #5 outfielder and maybe he stays cause he could walk into a fastball thigh high center cut but if he sees one its a mistake.Reds need to move on from one of them.

      • CI3J

Dunn has always hit well in the minors, though. His OBP there is .391.

And even in his short stints with the Reds, he has compiled a respectable .326 OBP.

Maybe things just finally “clicked” for him and he’s transferring what he’s done in the minors to the majors.

I do notice his approach seems better now. He seems more relaxed and like he’s not trying to do too much.

Hopefully he keeps it up. He is an excellent defender and has elite speed and a little bit of pop to go along with a good batting eye, so he would be an ideal leadoff hitter if he can keep hitting.

      • Jim Walker

@Tom M.> I’m with you on Friedl, Tom, in that I do not think they will release him. However, it seems clear that the Reds do not want him playing CF, with both Myers and Dunn appearing ahead of him on that depth chart.

It is hard for me to comprehend how a player of Friedl’s age can go from being a league average offensive player and an outstanding defender to where he has fallen in one offseason unless there is some type of impairment involved. So count me surprised Friedl has not been moved to the IL a la Hayes.

I am keeping an eye on outfielder Hector Rodriguez at AAA. Like Friedl, he bats from the left side. A sustained breakout streak by Rodriguez, who is Doug’s current #8 Reds prospect and has a current OPS at AAA of .758, could provide the impetus for movement on Frieldl’s situation.

  4. Roger Garrett

Two hitters that aren’t hitting and haven’t hit you can deal with when one is the catcher.May not always work but its a good lineup and best chance to score. Not trying to stir the pot bu Arroyo isn’t coming up any time soon.McLain just like last year will be given every chance. I get it but he is a bottom of the order hitter and should stay.Never a good idea to give one the worst hitters 5 at bats as the lead off guy.His speed make it tempting but that’s all.GO REDS

    • Tom Mitsoff

If it were up to me, I’d send McLain (who has options remaining) to Louisville and give Arroyo a shot at second base. We’d see if he is just another of the many players feasting on Class AAA pitching, or if he’s ready to contribute to a winning team.

      • CI3J

        100% agree with this.

Marte and Arroyo need to come up while McLain and either Benson or Friedl make way for them.

      • Roger Garrett

That’s a great point Tom especially you last sentence.Maybe Its just me and me wanting to just play younger players all the time but it appears the guys coming up must check a bunch of boxes to get to the majors.Once they make it just seems as if they don’t have so many to check to stay.Let me pick on McLain who I really want to see him take off at some point. He chases slider after slider after slider and has and will see that pitch time after time after time.So where does that come in to play and would McLain feast on AAA pitching.Doubt if it will happen but a great point on your part.Game time.GO REDS

      • Tom Mitsoff

I would absolutely love to see McLain take off, but how long should you wait when you have a reasonable option? By all accounts, they can both pick it as well as anyone. Let’s see if Arroyo can hit more than the low .200s.

      • DW

Yep. McLain and Benson down, Arroyo and Marte up. They’ve all earned it.

  5. Tom Mitsoff

I was shocked when I looked at the Mets lineup. I haven’t paid any attention to them at all this year, but wow, that is a bad lineup. Juan Soto isn’t starting, which helps the Reds. Cincinnati has five starting players today with an OPS of .800 or higher. Mets have none. Of course, it means nothing in a one-game scenario, but it does show how bad New York has been on offense this year.

    • RedsGettingBetter

Yes, they have underperformed I guess… there are guys like Bichette, Siemen, Vientos, Baty who have been average or above average hitters…The batter having more HRs in that lineup is Vientos with 6. Bleday has 6 and is 5th in HRs in the Reds lineup…But NYM sent McLean today and he’s a probable tough pitcher for the Reds especially for righties throwing a really nasty sweeper/slider

    • Kevin H

They are decimated by injuries. The mets.

    • Oldtimer

Soto has an illness and is out sick today per WLW 700 announcers.

      • Kevin H

        Yes I know that,

Lindor, Alverez, Polanco,Roberts Jr, Mauricio, and Young.. not to mention pitchers. So yes, Mets Are Decimated by Injuries.

  6. Roger Garrett

Saw that Tom but I guess Alonzo and Nimo are gone and Lindor is hurt and those 3 plus Soto are pretty good. All have made the all star team at some point.Wonder what the plan was or is?Not like they don’t have the money to spend.Somebody will lose their job after last year and now this year if they don’t right the ship.Braves and Philies are happy for sure.

  7. RedsGettingBetter

Cubs lost their 9th straight game. Now they have had a longer losing streak than the Reds this season….

    • Tom Mitsoff

I didn’t see that coming, but I’m glad.

  8. RedsGettingBetter

As usual , the Reds don’t looking good in the first inning, McLean struck out the side…

  9. CI3J

Yikes, McLean strikes out the side.

    Not a good start.

    • Tom Mitsoff

That was some amazing movement on those pitches. How has anyone hit him this year?

    • CI3J

…And Lodolo hits the first batter he faces.

      Lovely.

  10. Roger Garrett

Elly and Bleday both were guessing and guessed wrong.Reds will hit this guy at some point.Nick has to answer until they do.

  11. Old-school

    McLean looks like Greg Maddux

Lodolo needs to dominate and go deep . If the Reds are going to make the playoffs, Lodolo has to pitch well. Period

    • Tom Mitsoff

They have to have two other starters besides Burns and Abbott that they can rely upon to keep them in games. I was pleasantly surprised that Singer was skipped this week.

  12. RedsGettingBetter

Finally TySteve caught someone attemting to steal…

  13. Dennis Westrick

3 SOs by the Reds in the first inning! Not an auspicious start!

    • Oldtimer

Reds up 7-0. First inning doesn’t matter.

  14. CI3J

I had to look up McLean and he apparently had a 198 ERA+ last season.

    He’s at 111 ERA+ for this season.

So he’s legitimately a good pitcher. After seeing the movement on his pitches, I believe it.

    • Dennis Westrick

Couldn’t agree more! 16 strikeouts by Reds “hitters” in Saturday night’s game! Inexcusable!

  15. CI3J

    Ouch, right in the ribs.

Those hurt a lot. Knock the wind right out of you.

    Hope he didn’t break anything.

  16. Dennis Westrick

Who had the over/under on HBP in this game at 2?

  17. Old-school

    Some good AB’s

    See what happens

  18. CI3J

McLean seems rattled after hitting Sal.

  19. Noyes

Bichette with a slow DP feed worthy of Jeter. We’ll take it.

  20. Old-school

    Steer hustles

Bichette showboats with the glove flip

Need another run and wild pitch delivers

    • RedlegScott

2 runs on 1 hit. We’ll take it.

  21. Old-school

    Thats a good inning

    McLean at 39 pitches

See what Lodolo has staked with a 2-0 lead

  22. CI3J

39 pitches for McLean after 2.

As I said earlier, hitting Sal seemed to really rattle him.

We salute your (hopefully only) bruised ribs, Sal!

  23. Jason T.

Even at the bottom of the lineup McLain is a liability. That’s too bad.
Glad the Reds got some runs after that rough 1st.

    • CI3J

      At least he made contact.

But I agree, it’s time to see what Arroyo can do.

    • CincyDo

It’s so strange. He was hitting well for 10 games or so and then went cold in cold over night

  24. CI3J

    BLEDAY!

Hope that snaps him out of his mini-slump.

  25. VaRedsFan

Hayes is the only one that can play 3rd….according to some.
I’m thinking Hayes doesn’t have the arm to make the throw Sal just made.

    • Richard Fitch

That’s ridiculous. The hate here for McLain and Hayes because they haven’t hit as expected is petty and childish.

      • VaRedsFan

        Missed the point entirely.
People here think others can’t play 3rd

      • VaRedsFan

Statcast has Hayes at 19th out of 23 in arm strength.
        79.4 MPH

        accurate yes, strong no.

      • Noyes

He’s also got the lowest max velo of any full time 3B this year at 78.0, so… yeah, not great points in his favor.

      • Noyes

er. Average 78. Max 79.4. Both pretty weak. Get well soon.

      • Richard Fitch

Oh, I got your point. You just said Stewart made a play Hayes couldn’t.
Hayes is not only better defensively than either Sal or Geno, he’s better than anyone in baseball, period at third with the glove.

      • VaRedsFan

        Last year year yes.
This year not so much. 13th in FRV.

He doesn’t make strong throws off 1 foot well.
He doesn’t have the arm strength to get the runner Sal just got.

        Talking about that particular play.
        Try to keep up.

      • Indy Red Man

KBH is horrific. No defending him. Worst hitter in mlb and it doesn’t matter if he grabs everything to the left of 2nd base

Not to mention he was damaged goods on a long contract. Candyman can’t was bad, but atleast you can defend it before he started playing

    • Noyes

It’s striking how Hayes usually throws *just* hard enough to beat the runner. Almost like he’s showing off the clock in his head. I am pretty confident his average throw velo is underselling how much arm he has, though whether it’s by a lot or a little I have no clue.

    • Oldtimer

Absolutely no one – NO ONE – said anything like that. Stewart, Suarez, and Steer (if needed) can play 3B. Hayes is a better 3B defensively than any or all of them at 3B.

  26. Jason T.

    Lodolo keeps the shutout intact.
He’s locating his pitches pretty well.

  27. old-school

Reds offense is getting deeper and better.
Bleday is a really good hitting lefty outfielder and controlled thru 2028.
Lowe is a really good lefty power hitter first base DH.
Not sure what we are watching with Sal Stewart at 3b but 2 really good defensive plays last innings.

    This offense might be ok.

Need Lodolo to join Abbott and Burns and give us 3 lock down starters.

Yes, Hayes $7 million is bad but you win some and lose some. Hayes plus Bleday plus Lowe under $10 mil is win. Id give Sal a long leash at 3b.

Mets reek of desperation. Challenging a call in the 4th inning obvious ball and bunting with 1 and 2 outs in the 2nd inning

  28. Andrew Brewer

The Reds are ready to break this game open !

    • RedsMonk65

      You called it.

Pitchers need to hold up their end throughout.

  29. Jason T.

    Nice contact Lowe.
    Let’s get these runners home.

    • Andrew Brewer

and Steer delivers 2 … Reds up 5-0.

  30. RedsGettingBetter

Bleday and Lowe hve been a bless for the Reds offense so far

  31. RedlegScott

I’m liking the looks of this lineup more and more. I agree with those of you suggesting there’s spots for Arroyo and Marte in there somewhere.

    • IndyRedsFan

I don’t know where you’re going to put Marte. At the moment, I’m not taking Bleday, Dunn or Steer out of the starting lineup, and it makes no sense to sit Marte on the bench.

    • Kevin H

      Blows me away. OS…..

Steer is a darn good baseball player!!

  32. Jason T.

Steer can still hit, for all the doubters out there.
    Beautiful at bat.

    • JB

Yep. I’ve backed him for awhile and some kept trying to get him replaced for Hinds and others.

  33. CI3J

    Attaboy, Steer!

5-0 is a good place to be, but still doesn’t feel safe with this bullpen.

    • Andrew Brewer

Which is a good attitude to have …

  34. Noyes

Steer clutchin’ up again. Have to love how he can nuke mistakes and also be a contact hitter against pitchers’ pitches.

  35. CI3J

Man, even TySteve getting in on the action!

  36. old-school

This offense is gonna be OK!

Yes, maybe need a little more from AAA but pitching pitching pitching

    • Jason T.

Would like to see kind of offensive output against our division but I tend to agree.
      Bats getting better.

  37. RedsGettingBetter

Now TySteve recalled how to go deep! This game has been atypical for him

  38. Andrew Brewer

Ty Steve uncorks one, with one on, Reds now 7-0 !

  39. Jason T.

McLain now with an Ops+ of 75 since the start of 2025.

  40. Jeremiah

Reds top 6 or 7 in the lineup could be solid if Dunn and Bleday keep it up.

  41. Hanawi

Day games on the road might be Elly’s kryptonite. Combines his two worst splits.

    • Dennis Westrick

I mentioned the same thing yesterday! Elly seems to hit better when the sun goes down!

  42. Richard Fitch

Happy for the big lead at Citi Field. My son is at the game and he lives and dies with these NY games.

    • VaRedsFan

Mets have my favorite broadcast booth for away games.

      • Richard Fitch

He’s a huge Reds fan. When he was a small boy I said he didn’t have to be a Bengals fan (because I was afraid social services would come to the house in Brooklyn), but he couldn’t be a Mets, or god forbid, a Yankee fan.

      • Richard Fitch

he just had his picture taken with Jim Day.

      • old-school

Nice . We went to visit my son in Cleveland last weekend and went to Reds Guardians. He promptly sold his Rajah Davis Bobblehead for $20 to a Cleveland fan 3 minutes into walking in the stadium.

He was a Mets fan after the AS break in the horrible Reds years of 2004-2008. Wore a David Wright jersey and a Reds hat to a game once.

      • Richard Fitch

I was always a David Wright fan. Good dude.

    • Mark Moore

Great story, Richard. Thanks for sharing.

Before my Reds fandom started and we lived in Northern NJ, we were always the Mets when playing. I moved in ’72 to Upstate NY and found myself among D*** Yankee fans … so I turned to the Reds and it stuck.

      • Richard Fitch

Where in Bergen Co.? I spent my last years in Englewood. My son lives in Cresskill.

      • Mark Moore

We were in Essex County (if I recall correctly). Caldwell/West Caldwell. Lived “up on the hill” among the rather upper-middle class folks (Dad was a poor Baptist minister). The call of frustration from him or Mom was, “Why don’t you go play in the middle of Route 46.”

  43. Andrew Brewer

After the opening hit, Lodolo shows why he is on the hill…

  44. old-school

This game is now about Nick Lodolo.

Can he give 6-7 innings and save the bullpen and inject some dominance back into the starting pitching to add to Abbott and Burns? If so, SP and offense are on the rebound.

  45. CincyDo

Lodolo curve ball looks sharp today. But it’s the Mets, so hard to say.

  46. RedsGettingBetter

It’s pretty good to see Geno hitting well so far today

    • Andrew Brewer

Feels like he’s home and in the game… leadoff dbl goes for naught though.

  47. Old-school

See how Dunn does in CF and lead off but anyone have a problem with Elly/Bleday/Sal/Geno/Lowe/Steer 2-7???

This offense is getting interesting before GABP warms up for the summer.

  48. Indy Red Man

Bleday rbi baby! McLean has been struggling a little lately and we took advantage.
    Mets are really bad

    • VaRedsFan

Just swept by the Marlins….not to mention their earlier long losing streak.

  49. Indy Red Man

Geno was all uppercut launch when he left the Reds last time. Its nice to see him taking alot of balls the other way now. That will pay off with a few extra Gabp oppos at some point.

  50. Jason T.

Lodolo probably done an after 5?
Nice to see 0 runs given up.

    • CI3J

I’d send him out for the 6th and get someone warming up as soon as any Met reaches base.

      • Jason T.

I’m with you. A hit or walk and get someone up and in.

      • VaRedsFan

He’s only at 83 pitches, why wouldn’t he?

  51. Andrew Brewer

Lodolo fooling the Mets hitters with his “curveball”, but Doug says it’s really his slider.

  52. Dennis Westrick

Do the Reds have a new pitching strategy we are not aware of? Replacing the walks with HBPs? Nice 5 innings by Lodolo! Maybe one more?

    • Oldtimer

No. HBPs are accidental, not a strategy.

      • Kevin H

You realize he is being sarcastic right?

  53. RedsGettingBetter

This was a nearly 3rd inning deja vu

  54. RedsGettingBetter

After a short hot stretch McLain is awful again… What happens to this guy?

    • Jason T.

I hate to sound like a broken record but he looks lost. Wish for the best for him but it’s just not happening.

    • Old-school

He is overagressive. Baseball isn’t football where aggressiveness wins on 4th and 1. Let the game come to you. Perhaps he needs to hire Blake Dunns mental coach.

      • Dennis Westrick

Little, if any, plate discipline! Forces the issue when the count is in his favor! Maybe a trip back to the Bats is warranted so MM can get right!

  55. RedsGettingBetter

The 6th inning has been usually tough for the Reds starters

  56. Jason T.

6 innings, 1 run, that’ll do Lodolo. Thank you.

  57. Mark Moore

First Wife is laughing at the “cat” behind the home plate area … 😀

OK, solid 6 from Lodolo. I’ll take that. Fun game to watch (for a bit of a change).

    • Jason T.

The girl behind the guy with the orange polo shirt looks absolutely bored. Guess I’d be too if I was a Mets fan.

  58. old-school

Kudos to Lodolo for 6 excellent innings and to Ty Steve who has called a good game and hit a 2 run bomb. See how the bullpen closes things out.

  59. Andrew Brewer

After the leadoff homer, the Mets go down in order. With a 7-1 lead it still feels comfortable.

    • Dennis Westrick

No lead is comfortable with the Reds bullpen of late!

  60. RedsGettingBetter

It’s a little weird to see the Reds scoring 7 runs while Elly and Stewart are 0-7 with 5 Ks combined

  61. Andrew Brewer

Time to give Lodolo a rest ? I think so.

    • Andrew Brewer

Franco concurs, Brock Burke, the hard throwing lefty takes the mound.

  62. Moon

Look like NIck has shaken the rust off.

  63. Mark Moore

Does TySteve know the zone or WHAT???

  64. Mark Moore

Bad read and route by Bleday … 😐

  65. Roger Garrett

Great 6 by Nick.Nine outs with no drama and it’s a winning Memorial Day.We give honor to those you died for our freedom

  66. Dennis Westrick

Just waiting to see how long it take the Reds bullpen to blow a 6-run lead!

    • Kevin H

Go to your meditation corner. Good vibes only!!! Hahaha

    • Oldtimer

Please ONCE make a positive or even neutral comment. ONCE!

    • Oldtimer

He had a good year or two as a Red. Not so good lately.

  67. Andrew Brewer

Burke just gets to face the minimum, and TeJay Antone takes the mound … 1 run in.

    • Andrew Brewer

I don’t know what Francona was seeing, but I saw 5 or 6 pitches in the upper right corner of the zone, pretty impressive, I thought.

  68. RedsGettingBetter

Bichette was hitting .218 before this game…he is going 3-4 today…always a Reds killer

  69. Dennis Westrick

Another infield single by a Red opponent! Unbelievable!

  70. Kevin H

Heck of a play by Elly.. Lowe almost made a good scoop. Then Stewart continues to impress at 3rd with his play.

  71. RedsGettingBetter

Antone finally could find the 3rd out in this dangerous inning…

  72. Jason T.

Sal can play some defense at 3rd. Lovely.

  73. Richard Fitch

Stewart playing a fine 3B today.

    • Mark Moore

I’m growing more comfortable with him there. Doubt he’ll have a Gold Glove, but he looks like a smart baseball player who works hard.

  74. Dennis Westrick

Thank you, Tejay! I can breathe again! For now!

  75. Mark A Verticchio

    Don’t trust this bull pen.

    • Andrew Brewer

Sam Moll just struck out the side in the 8th ! Nice pitching…

      • Andrew Brewer

But I hear you ! We’ve been burned too many times.

  76. RedsGettingBetter

This guy Pintaro held the Reds on…

  77. RedsGettingBetter

    Another 3-pitch K by McLain… wow

    • GreatRedLegsFan

Unless he starts to get on base somehow, he should be sent back to AAA to regain his hitting, has been in a slide for long.

  78. dimondfvr

Twenty-two strikeouts between the two Saturday games, and another thirteen by Reds hitters today. That’s offensive, and not from a hitting standpoint.

  79. Chris

Hopefully the other teams in the central division beat each other up next couple games and Reds and can make up some ground.

  80. RedAlert

Need to bring up Arroyo and sit McLain… dude has had every chance in the world to show that he belongs in starting lineup … that time is done … he ain’t it … off the bench fine , starter material no way

  81. Doc4uk

McClain needs some time at Louisville to get his confidence back. Put Arroyo at 2B and leave him there until the All Star Break to see if he can hit at the major league level. Marte should replace Friedl or Benson (take your pick) and be the fourth Outfielder.

  82. RedlegScott

My main man Moll continues to roll.

  83. Chris

Moll! Striking out the side bullpen doing it’s job.

  84. Roger Garrett

Sam was the man in that inning for sure

  85. RedlegScott

Looks like Elly took the holiday off lol.

  86. Doc4uk

Agree with bringing moll back for the ninth.

  87. Chris

I get Reds are winning but man they gotta watch third strikes go by more than any other team in the majors.

  88. Andrew Brewer

I hope Elly doesn’t like the fit of that Sombrero … Didn’t even swing at one in the last K, and that makes 4 on the day.

    • Andrew Brewer

We’re onto the Mets half of the 9th… Score 7-2 Reds.

  89. Roger Garrett

Hard to find fault up by 5 but 4 punch outs and not even swinging on the 4th one is just not good for your best player.

  90. RedsGettingBetter

    15 Ks for the Reds hitters… Jeesh…

    • Kevin H

11k’s so far for Mets hitters. *Shrugs *

  91. Mark Moore

First Daughter just let us know her MA thesis has all the necessary signatures and is submitted. Going through final formatting review (she’s been wrestling with Chicago Style regularly) but after 3 years, 9 quarters, and 45 credits, we get to watch her graduate at 11:30 AM this Friday.

Off topic yes … but you guys are kind of like family to me. Mostly “weird uncles” but still … 😉

    • Richard Fitch

Congrats. I wrestled with Chicago Style all the time.

      • Mark Moore

So did I. Chicago Style seemed to win more often than not.

    • Hanginwithem

Congratulations! That’s great news! And strong work by your daughter!

    • BK

Congratulations Mark! That is a fine accomplishment for your daughter and her family who have supported her faithfully. Kate Turabian has been the nemesis of many a graduate student. Alas, victory is sweet!

  92. Mark Moore

rather smug grin with that challenge 😀

  93. Roger Garrett

Congrats Mark and first wife.I have found its a two hanky day on graduation day first for daughter and again for granddaughter. One for each eye to wipe tears of joy and relief and a bunch of other things that are all good.

    • Mark Moore

It’s been a journey. It definitely will be a wet eye day.

  94. Mark Moore

    That’s a very disappointed NYM crowd … 😮

  95. Andrew Brewer

Good ninth for Ashcraft and a good win for the Reds ! 7-2

  96. Kevin H

Reds pitching 12 strike outs and 0 walks. Brilliant game all way around.

    • LDS

Amazing how well games turn out when the pitchers don’t walk anyone. Let’s hope Burns is on tomorrow and win the series right off.

      • Kevin H

Especially with Reds bullpen this month!

    • RedsGettingBetter

No walks is really remarkable nowadays…

    • CenTexRed

The man who “shrugs” off the brilliant 15Ks by the Reds and calls it a “brilliant” win.

      LOL, all the way around.

The Reds did beat a team with at 21-31 record.

      Mark it, Donny.

      • Kevin H

Again I feel sorry for you. Have a great day.

  97. RedsGettingBetter

Nice win… One of the easiest of the season I think… The offense scored early all of the runs to give Lodolo and the bullpen enough room… Go tomorrow and do the same!

  98. Roger Garrett

Dennis you have to be celebrating because we issued no walks. Not a single one on a very special day.Maybe signs of good days to come for this team.GO REDS

  99. Moon

Aftet the cubs bludgeoned the Red four straight games and left them dead things have changed. The Reds are only 1/2 game behind them now

  100. Roger Garrett

Good win.Reds got out early up 7-0 and as it turned out that was all they needed.Nick with 6 good innings and the pen finishes it by fanning 5 out of the last 6 Mets hitters.Good team win today. The lineup today was a good one even with Tyler and MM at the end.Tyler and his 2 run blast made it 7-0 and again that was more then enough.Their starter is good and really good most of the time but not today. The key at bat for me today was Steer’s single to really break it open in the 4th.Just stayed on it and hit it right up the middle to plate two runs.Big time at bat.GO REDS

  101. Daniel Kals

Sal Stewart some very good plays at 3B today. Could be interesting to see if he starts playing there more often. Looks like he can be serviceable there.

A few weeks ago I posted “The Reds already had Ke’Bryan Hayes on their roster for 1/5 the cost when they had Santiago Espinal” and someone said “Hayes is a gold glover, end of argument” or something like that, like I had been totally “pwned” as the kids used to say. I wonder if they still feel the same way now. I bring it up because Espinal was DFA’ed today hitting .220 with a 1.000 fielding percentage at 3B, 2B, and SS on the season – miles better than Hayes. Not saying we should go get Espinal, but if the Reds are dead set on having a defensive replacement at 3B, is there anyone who still believes Espinal at $1.5 million wouldn’t be a better choice than Hayes at $7 million?

The Reds got spooked because Marte was making so many errors at 3B and they panicked and traded for Hayes. And now they are paying the price for that. But seeing Sal over there, here’s hoping they can live with Sal/Geno at 3B without panicking again.
