After a tough loss Monday night in which the bullpen gave up another late-inning lead, Chase Burns tries to even the series at one game apiece with the Phillies and once again snap a Reds’ losing streak.

First pitch from Philadelphia is at 6:40 PM EDT.

Chase Burns

In each of his last two outings, Burns has snapped a Reds’ losing streak. He pitched six innings of one-run baseball against the Houston Astros on May 9 to break the eight-game losing streak, and he pitched six innings in a 15-1 rout over the Washington Nationals on May 14 to break a two-game losing streak. Burns is the Reds’ best pitcher right now, and it’s not particularly close. His ERA in the month of May currently sits at 0.47.

Burns has had his struggles with left-handed hitters. Lefties have hit five home runs against him this season, compared to only allowed to right-handed hitters. He’s also walked a lot more lefty batters, 16 to be exact, compared to just two for righties. Regardless of the home runs allowed, he has been able to get batters out with his slider. He’s got a 50% whiff rate with it and 36 of his 55 strikeouts have come off the slider.

Jesús Luzardo

Left-hander Jesús Luzardo is one of the veteran pitchers in the Phillies rotation, having pitched in the major leagues and having played for three different teams since 2019. He’s struggled a bit this season but is coming off a four-hit shutout through six innings against the Boston Red Sox last Thursday. It’s been quite the roller coaster season for Luzardo thus far in 2026. He pitches better away from Citizens Bank Park though, as his away ERA is 1.52 with only four earned runs allowed in 23.2 innings. His home ERA is 8.31 in 26.0 innings, with four home runs allowed.

However, Luzardo has had some bad luck working against him, as evidenced by a .366 BABIP. Despite a high ERA, his FIP is just 2.93. He also ranks in the 85th – 90th percentile in MLB for chase%, whiff%, strikeout%, and walk%, according to Baseball Savant. He also ranks in the top 7% of MLB in not allowing hard contact. However, his WHIP is at 1.33, so he’s still giving up hits for the number of innings he’s pitched. Luzardo’s sweeper is his go-to pitch. He uses it the most, with a 36.7% usage rate, and has a whiff rate of 47.6% this season. Thirty-three of his 61 strikeouts have come off his sweeper alone.

get new pitching and hitting coaches

    • Brett

And a new manager. Have they FIRED Francona yet??

      • greenmtred

Some new fans would take care of it.

  2. Indy Red Man

CB over 16.5 outs. No Schwarber to put up extended at-bats. Lets Go!

Dunn is interesting. Maybe not as much pressure on him since he’s not expected to start full-time. What can he do in primetime? Pinch-hits and sub-in at-bats in garbage time after our pen has nuked the game don’t matter. I liked the one game in Wrigley where someone got on in the 8th in a tie game & Tito pinch-ran Dunn. He promptly stole 2nd and scored. Now that matters…or would’ve if we had a pen

    • Jim Walker

Looks like Dunn is a starter vs LH pitching at least for now. They also don’t seem as quick to pull him at the first sighting of a same-side pitcher as they are with Benson and LHP.

      • Melvin

The early numbers for Dunn are much better than those of Benson. He actually has four hits against RH pitching and two against LH pitching. He’s better on defense too. If someone is sent down soon it shouldn’t be Blake Dunn.

      • Pharmer85

Would bring up Marte and send Benson down. If Marte still struggles against lefties play Dunn against them.

  3. Dennis Westrick

Another day and another opportunity for these 2026 Reds to find unique, exciting and challenging ways to lose a game! Tonight’s matchup of pitchers means the Reds will score few if any runs for their ace while battling another lefty who’s 1-3 at home with an 8+ ERA at home as well. Hate to be negative but it’s not hard to see any light at the end of this long tunnel.

If my math is correct, since the Reds were 20-11, they have won only 4 games while losing 13. That’s a winning percentage of .235 and a recipe for disaster!

I am confident that Burns will give his team a chance to win tonight! The question is, will these loveable losers finally figure out how to hold a lead if they get one?

      • Dennis Westrick

Which team have you been watching? Probably a KBH fan as well!

  4. RedsGettingBetter

Dane Myers is our fifth batter tonight…
Reds are avoiding Schwarber from the start again…should take advantage of that after they didn’t last night…

  5. Mark Moore

Backing Burns to Break the Bad Juju tonight.

Let’s do the things we ain’t been doing of late, okay?

  6. Melvin

Friedl out again. Not playing much. It’s probably killing Tito but all things considered it’s the right thing to do.

    Time to start winning again.

    • JB

He stinks. Two strikes and he chases the slider down or the sweeper away. No adjustments. He isn’t legit anymore. 🙁

      • Melvin

Yeah. Unfortunately. It would seem virtually all aspects of his game are on the decline.

  7. Brett

Hoping for a rainout today. Well, maybe tomorrow.

  8. Mark A Verticchio

How in the world has it come to this? With Myers batting 5th this has to be one of the worst line ups the Reds have put out this year. The answer = Suarez hurt, Marte in AAA and Stephenson playing awful. This line up will hopefully win but it wouldn’t matter because like the way the team won in April, with poor hitting, it would not be sustainable.

  9. Chris

What?!! So I guess we get good Luzardo tonight…

  10. Mark Moore

At least we’re making Jesus throw plenty of pitches … 😐

  11. Mark A Verticchio

What a poor first inning, a joke.

    • Jim Walker

Back in the day, the Alou brother with the same name as this Phillies pitcher was known for several years as “Jay” Alou” in print and electronic media such as it was then.

  12. RedsGettingBetter

Reds pitcher should change the way to locate the pitches against Bohm

  13. Mark Moore

There are times I think if they shaved Marsh and cut his hair they’d find Jimmy Hoffa … but whatever floats your boat.

    Nice job by Burns.

    • Jedi Joey

He looks like he just crawled out of a dumpster. Shampoo and soap should be affordable on an MLB salary.

      • Mark Moore

        +10,000

        Especially at his salary 😀

  14. WCRon

Hayes must have some pictures or something. Why is he still around. His money is wasted anyways

    • Melvin

He does have a bobblehead day coming up next week so that’s something.

  15. Mark A Verticchio

This is awful, I don’t think this team will score tonight. Question, Will they ever be above .500 again?

  16. RedsGettingBetter

Luzardo has been pretty dominant in these first 2 innings … Not encouraging…

    • Jedi Joey

The Jesus Lizzard is looking good so far.

  17. RedsGettingBetter

Burns is throwing his slider between 91.5-93.4 mph …my Lord

  18. Chris

I think this team was built with the assumption that the pitching staff was gonna keep em in every game and the hitting could score just enough to win games. They didn’t count on pitching going down with injuries or Suarez getting hurt or Mclain and Friedle not hitting but there should have been a backup plan and management is very slow in Cincinnati to make changes.

  19. Mark Moore

    Here’s a bit of odd trivia …

Today marks the final brewing of Schlitz, the “beer that made Milwaukee famous”

Never tried it, but I do know the name 😀

    • Jedi Joey

Interesting! I did not know they were going to stop brewing it

    • Chris

At one time it was bigger than Budweiser then some management goof changed the recipe to make it cheaper and people stopped drinking it. For the last batch they reportedly were going to brew a batch using the original recipe. Should have switched back yrs ago.

    • greenmtred

I tried it in my youth. No matter how many chances I gave it, it never got any better.

    • Dennis Schiavone

@Mark. 1966 my first beer was a Schlitz .I was 16 a great memory. Thanks for the foggy reminder

  20. Melvin

Dunn with a hit increasing his value.

  21. OK

Want to hear a bold take? I still think the Reds make the playoffs this year.

  22. dimondfvr

Did we really expect anything else from Hayes!?

  23. OK

I have seen enough of Hayes, see if he will accept a minor league assignment or release him.

  24. Jedi Joey

Good ole Ke’Bryan! Not only does he not get a hit, but gets two outs for his effort.

    • Dennis Westrick

Well, at least he’s efficient as well as predictable! That’s something, right?

      • WCRon

I have been a reds fan since 1988. In all these years Hayes must be the biggest flop. He is worse than Candy and Moose

  25. DHud

Please for the love of all that is good

    Start bunting Hayes. Please.

  26. RedsGettingBetter

Hayes again with a double play killer no way ….Why that guy doesn’t learn to bunt?

  27. Mark A Verticchio

Who didn’t see that coming, he should have bunted, come on Tito wake up and realize what kind of team you have.

  28. Ted Alfred

When Hayes came up the bat with two on and nobody out all I wanted was for him to not hit into a double play, but he couldn’t do that. One pitch was all it took, taylor made. When Suarez comes back in 7 to 10 days he needs to be starting at 3rd almost every game and Hayes can have the occasional start and be a defensive replacement late. He is absolutely killing this team with his pathetic hitting.

  29. Melvin

More “bad luck” for Hayes hitting into that DP? (Not trying to pick on people who like Hayes but….)

    • Jedi Joey

At this point, I can’t imagine who would keep supporting him. Ha ha

  30. GPod

I said it yesterday and I will say it again…..Hayes needs to bunt….Tito is really getting on my last nerve!

    • Melvin

An argument could be made that he hits like a pitcher so he might as well learn to bunt like a pitcher.

      • OK

        (.130 / .160 / .180) pitchers when they hit
        (.145/.200/.231) Hayes
It is like the Reds are batting the pitcher and the rest of the MLB has the DH

  31. Gusnwally

When I was in the air force I drank a lot of schlitz. It was great and you could get it anywhere.

  32. JB

Hayes is starting to really tick me off. When I go to the bathroom I expect him to at least take a few pitches. He is the human bathroom break.

  33. dimondfvr

Maybe MLB will let us use a designated “sitter.” Let someone (Hayes) play the field, but skip his AB!” LOL

    • Melvin

If Lorenzen was still on the team and hitting like he used to we would probably DH for Hayes and let him hit. Seriously. I don’t know but that might be a first or at least a rarity.

      • JB

You can’t designate hit for a positional player. Only for a pitcher in the the majors.

      • Melvin

“You can’t designate hit for a positional player. Only for a pitcher in the the majors.”

        Bummer 😀

      • Mark Moore

I did DH duty in high school for a position player. Ended up earning a letter for my effort.

      • Melvin

“I did DH duty in high school for a position player. Ended up earning a letter for my effort.”

Do we need H.S. rules? 😉

  34. RedsGettingBetter

A homer Reds trailing this game again…Last four games they have started trailing

  35. Goldenbear

Outside of Burns, Stewart, maybe Abbott, maybe Steer, and EDLC (no chance), who on this current roster, would you offer a multi-year deal to?

    • OK

JJ Bleday if he keeps hitting like he has.

  36. Chris

No excuses for not bringing Elly in here with no outs. Maybe he should try to steal home.

  37. Mark Moore

    What was the Chumpire thinking????

  38. Mark Moore

If he’s smart he drops that.

That works for us. Wind saved a homer there.

  39. Dennis Westrick

Another runner orphaned at 3rd! We have a lead thankfully by scoring 2 runs without a hit!

  40. VaRedsFan

I’m not defending Hayes as a player but…

He hit it 103 MPH on the ground, the opposite way.
It’s exactly what you want really….oppo on the ground, pull it in the air.

For all his failings as a hitter, he had a good approach in that AB.

    • VaRedsFan

xBA (expected batting Avg) on that ball was .450

      • CenTexRed

What was the xDP on that ball?

        Expected Double Play.

        On that AB for Hayes?

        Probably .500+

  41. VaRedsFan

Hayes has 1 sac bunt in 7 years of MLB.

    • GPod

My word….that is terrible. He has never hit in his mlb career and in 7 years, you could not learn how to bunt to help your team

      • Ted Alfred

Another fine signing by Mr Krall. He’s only owed another 25+ million over the next 4 years

      • JB

        Hayes
        2026-7 mil
        2027-7 mil
        2028-8 mil
        2029- 8 mil
        2030 6 mil buyout.
Nothing like adding Insult and having to pay him 6 mil to leave

      • Melvin

        “Hayes
        2026-7 mil
        2027-7 mil
        2028-8 mil
        2029- 8 mil
        2030 6 mil buyout.
Nothing like adding Insult and having to pay him 6 mil to leave”

With the TIGHT budget Krall is supposed to have it would seem he would do very well to spend his money MORE WISELY. The savings on all of these questionable signings/trades would instead possibly give them enough money to actually get a player who could both play defense AND hit.

  42. RedsGettingBetter

Thinking the Reds should score more runs in order to have room for the bullpen…

  43. Dennis Westrick

For the love of God Hayes, lay down a bunt!

  44. VaRedsFan

    I can’t defend that one KBH…sorry.
    lol

    • Melvin

At this point it would seem the best way for Krall to “save face” (at least some) would be for Hayes to get injured. Not that I’m asking for any player to get injured.

  45. Ted Alfred

Hayes is probably the worst offensive player I’ve ever seen be a regular major league starter for a couple of months. He is the biggest rally killer in the history of Major League Baseball…just another taylor made easy double play right on cue in a 2-0 count with the top of the order coming up

    • GPod

Hayes is showing you what he is and Tito is to blame….nobody can defend Tito on this one….I dare you

  46. Mark A Verticchio

That is on Francona, but Hayes for the love of God

    • 70times7

Again, only thing dumber than trading for Hayes, is actually playing him

    • Dennis Schiavone

When we get our clean up hitter back he goes to 3 rd and Hayes sits and learns how to bunt. Well that’s what I would do

  47. Goldenbear

Hayes could make the 5 greatest plays in 3rd base history in the next week, and it still would not justify him being in the starting lineup, ever.

  48. Dennis Westrick

KBH has single-handedly kept the Phillies in this game! What’s next? A fielding error?

    • 70times7

      2 ABs, 4 outs. He’s very efficient

  49. CenTexRed

The Hayes Thing has got to end soon.

I’m a fan of Marte, but the fact that he couldn’t handle it at 3B is bumming me out.

Who is the best at alternative options?

    EDLC? Not happening.

    Steer? Why not?

    Stewart? I have no idea.

    Arroyo? See EDLC above.

Geno? The best bet, once he’s back.

  50. Gonzo Reds

Arroyo up Hayes cut please! Phillies love we paid him, they knew just how awful he is.

    • Andrew Brewer

We got Ke’Bryan from the Pirates …

  51. Dennis Westrick

Luzardo has pitched beyond the 6th inning only once this season I believe! He just needs KBH to keep coming up with men on base!

  52. Indy Red Man

Jose Barrero wants to know why he never got a bobblehead night?

KBH turns the official scorer into a bobblehead. Look up , look down mark 6-4-3, look back up

    • CenTexRed

      Ace.

      Now THAT is funny.

Barrero, still in the game. 9 AAA hrs this season.

      Only 28 y.o. Bleday range.

I hope he hasn’t spent all his Reds’ signing bonus yet.

  53. GreatRedLegsFan

We may be seeing at the very last days of KBH in the majors.

    • JB

Highly doubt it. Counting this year they owe him 36 mil.

    • Pharmer85

Not till his contract’s up. Unless, of course, he’s re-signed.

  54. Mark Moore

Nice work from Burns. Great challenge AGAIN by TySteve.

  55. Chris

One thing Stephanson does well is challenge called balls.

  56. Dennis Westrick

Burns is pitching his heart out! Score him some runs please!

  57. dimondfvr

Burns may have to throw a complete game in order to keep it out of the hands of the bullpen!

  58. Mark A Verticchio

Two nights in a row where the opposing pitcher has his best game of the year. Oh boy

  59. Mark A Verticchio

Poor decision by Sal at this time and with this score.

  60. Mark A Verticchio

You have to let Burns go another inning. To win the Reds must score again and I don’t mean 1 run.

  61. VaRedsFan

108.8 mph off the bat of Harper right off the leg of Burns.
Ran off the field, but you could tell he was favoring it.

    • CenTexRed

Ah….I missed that while I was posting below.

      I hope he’s alright.

  62. CenTexRed

Burns at 86 pitches, 6 innings, bullpen reeling.

His overall inning count nothwithstanding, does Francona have much of a choice but to send him out for the 7th?

  63. Mark Moore

Another Keystone Kops gift from Harper.

  64. Dennis Westrick

OMG! Hayes is on deck with a chance to make it a trifecta of GIDPs!

  65. Jeremiah

I thought Dunn would never really play on the Reds much again. He must have really made some adjustments? He was really bad last time up last year I think it was, surprised how good he’s been.

    • Melvin

He’s doing well but he doesn’t exactly have a high bar to get over with this outfield.

    • JB

His last 3 months last year at AAA were very good. He kept it up this spring as well.

    • ksdavis

Dunn was I think minor league player of the year in 2023. Dealt with some injuries, but leveled out. But in the last half of the year at AAA, he made adjustments in hitting. Not for power, but for average.

  66. Melvin

Dunn done earning himself more PT with Tito. Good for him. Bad news for Benson.

  67. Jeremiah

Oh boy, Hayes up in a big spot…could you imagine if he hits into a double play here? Maybe a Grand Slam!?

  68. dimondfvr

No. You can not allow Hayes to hit with the bases loaded and no one out!

    • Chris

Francona has lost his mind. You pinch hit here opportunity to pile it on this could really cost the game.

  69. OK

Hayes can not see an abat for the rest of the year if you want to win.

  70. Mark Moore

    Sadak, “At least it’s not a double-play”

You can say that again, John.

    • VaRedsFan

Double play that time in the middle of the diamond would have least got them a run.

    • Melvin

Reds broadcasters continue to rail on Hayes.

  71. CenTexRed

Very well could have been a DP ball if the Phillies didn’t chose to prevent the run from scoring.

    No fear of McLain, apparently.

  72. RedsGettingBetter

    Im tired of Hayes actually

  73. Dennis Westrick

What else can KBH do to kill a rally? One-man wrecking crew! Just needed a sac fly! Anything but a ground ball or a strikeout!

  74. Ted Alfred

Well right on Que Hayes hit another grounder that could have been ANOTHER DP, but luckily the infielder hesitated with where to go with the ball so they only got the force out at home so at least he didn’t hit into a double play. It’s pretty sad when all you care about when a hitter comes up with the bases loaded and nobody out is that he doesn’t hit into a double play you know for a fact he’s not going to get the run in or anything good. I wonder if today finally pushes Tito towards benching Hayes for good when Suarez comes back

  75. Melvin

Well, that would have been another DP by Hayes had they not come home with the throw? I have a feeling Tito is quietly “fed up”. He’s tried to “save face” for Krall but it just hasn’t worked.

  76. Mark Moore

OK, Tito and crew … let’s see if you are right.

  77. CenTexRed

    First pitch golfing from McLain.

Wherever Hayes is being imaginatively sent, could McLain go with him?

  78. RedsGettingBetter

McLain and his poor at-bats too…

  79. CenTexRed

Philadelphia OldTimers say: “Who cares about walks? Sheesh!”

  80. Mark Moore

OK, Sal, just find some green. Don’t need you to park it.

  81. Chris

Bases loaded no outs and we lucked into 2 runs. Should have blown the game open.

  82. Chris

And we turn the game over to the bullpen once again…

  83. GPod

If this BP blows this lead….I will have to check into an institution

    • Dennis Westrick

I may have to make a beer run! One beer ain’t gonna cut it!

    • Mark Moore

We may need an entire wing for RLN regulars.

  84. Jim t

When Suarez comes back he needs to play 3rd and Hayed becomes a late inning defensive replacement.

  85. Oldtimer

In case anybody wants to skip the drivel above, Reds lead 4-1.

Burns got hit (on his upper right leg) by sharply hit comebacker but made the play to get out at 1B.

    • Mark Moore

Hard it, but a “better” place to take it than what happened to Singer.

  86. BCMurph

Tito apparently doesn’t see the necessity or urgency to pinch hit for Hayes with bases loaded and no outs. His stats do not warrant a difficult decision to pull him with a pinch hitter like Lowe against a right hander.

I can see taking the chance with McClain with one out who has shown improvement or the past week.

Luckily, the challenge paid off and we pick up a couple of gift runs. But this could have potentially been a bigger inning.

    • Mark Moore

I’ve been pretty supportive of Hayes, but I’m about at my limit as well. Love the great defense, but the AB’s are just painful to watch.

      • Richard Fitch

Think of how the Phillies are feeling tonight. Great hitter whose defense has been so bad it’s been painful to watch and cost home team.

        That door swings both ways.

      • Jedi Joey

Hayes is absolutely terrible at the plate. His glove is no longer worth the constant automatic out. There is no way to defend this guy anymore. Even the most optimistic person like John Sadak is making comments.

      • Mark Moore

Richard, I completely understand and agree. I’m just tired from running into that same door. No way I could do anything he’s ale to do. In the end I don’t know nuthin’ … just a passionate fan.

        I also don’t give a white rat’s patootie about the Phillies 😉

@RichardFelch as usual, another red herring.

These two things have nothing to do with one another.

        Absolutely nothing.

But, of course, that means nothing to you as long as you can post your cynical, Mr. Know-It-All snarky comments.

  87. DHud

    Enter reliever.

    Walk first batter.

    Like. Clockwork.

    • Oldtimer

Strikes out 2 for scoreless “hold” inning.

  88. ksdavis

Arroyo with two more hits so far tonight (including a triple). Marte with two hits including a homer. Of course if you bring up Arroyo to play third, then Krall would have to admit he made a mistake. Krall needs to be fired today.

  89. CincyDo

Francona pulled Burns, why? Save him for the off season?

    • ksdavis

Was hit by a batted ball. Limping some back to the dugout. Don’t forget he missed time last year want to make sure he is able to make it through the year.

  90. Jeremiah

Little surprised Francona had Hayes hit there. The baseball season is long, and sometimes I know i overreact when following daily. But how long can the Reds play Hayes somewhat consistently? I think it’s getting embarrassing to the franchise, and the other players I think if they were honest don’t think he should be playing much, except maybe a late inning replacement for Defense. McLain leading off to is a little embarassing. I’ve come around on McLain too and think he’s ok starting everyday as long as he’s in the bottom 7-9 of the order. I think the veterans, stars on the team, behind closed doors can’t be happy with some of this.

But nice job overall getting some extra runs there. De La Cruz just having a really good year overall, he’d probably have amazing stats with more consistent hitters in front and behind him.

  91. Dennis Westrick

Well, at least Johnson got the mandatory walk out of the way early by walking the first batter! What a joke this bullpen has become!

    • Oldtimer

Tito and Nick want to sign you to a $1 free agent contract to join the bullpen.

      • VaRedsFan

He could just coach them, and tell them not to walk guys.

      • Dennis Westrick

Offer accepted if you are the first batter I face!

      • CenTexRed

A little chin music coming his way, Dennis?

      • Melvin

“Offer accepted if you are the first batter I face!”

haha 😀 You two are killing me. Maybe let up on each other? haha 🙂

      • Jedi Joey

C’mon Melvin! RLN wants to see this matchup. 🙂

      • Melvin

“C’mon Melvin! RLN wants to see this matchup. ?”

        hahaha 😀

  92. Chris

Mclain earned his keep with that play.

  93. Mark Moore

Nice job by MattyMc right there.

  94. Mark Moore

Much better inning from Johnson (with help from MattyMc)

  95. Jeremiah

I’ve seen a couple articles talking about Cy Young candidates mentioning McLean from the Mets and not Burns. Mclean has let up 9 runs tonight and even before that had an ERA 1 run higher than Burns. Still some big city bias in these national sports writers.

  96. BCMurph

    Reply To Mark Moore:

Per Hayes, hopefully Tito becomes enlightened to the same pain that the majority of RLN feels with Hayes’ AB performance.

  97. Mark Moore

There’s your hit-and-run friends … only he didn’t hit it.

      • Mark Moore

Would appear. Harris stepped out of his box to give it (per the booth).

      • Melvin

“Would appear. Harris stepped out of his box to give it (per the booth).”

Actually Hayes is a perfect player to use the hit and run more with if he does play as he puts it in play most of the time.

  98. Andrew Brewer

Ty Steve attempts a steal… Maybe he thought he would fool ’em. But we know why he tried.

    • Brady

That was a hit and run and Hayes didn’t swing.

      • Andrew Brewer

Ah, it’s looking worse for Hayes all the time…

      • ksdavis

but that pitch was a foot outside. No way Hayes would be able to hit that.

  99. Brady

They might legitimately DFA Hayes tonight.

  100. LarkinPhillips

Hayes clearly missed a hit and run there. He needs to be on the bench tomorrow. Put Sal at third and Lowe at first.

  101. Mark A Verticchio

Can you have a worse night at the plate than Hayes?

    • Jedi Joey

Change night for season and it still applies.

  102. Chris

Missed hit and run?!! Stephenson doesn’t steal!?

  103. VaRedsFan

Tyler looked back at home plate like KBH was supposed to be hit and run. Problem was, the pitch was a foot over his head and outside.

      • Melvin

Yep. It keeps the catcher back a little bit longer at least. He could swing a little late.

    • Chris

Dunn with a terrific play in foul territory

  104. RedsGettingBetter

The solution Tito found for avoiding a doubleplay was to send Steve to steal but he was caught by Marchán one of the best catchers doing that last season …at the end it’s the same result as doubleplay after Hayes failed

    • Mark Moore

Except it was a missed sign for a hit-and-run

  105. Jedi Joey

Who is rushing out to the ballpark on Saturday for the KBH bobblehead?

    • VaRedsFan

haha. Gift shop will be stocked for years with extra inventory

      • Jedi Joey

Ha ha! The shipping would be more than what it is worth.

      • Melvin

Bobblehead collectors might want one just to add to their collection. I used to do that. Last year I sold most of them. Just took up too much room. 🙂

      • Jedi Joey

This is true, Melvin. I have quite a few. I think around 75 or so but a friend of mine had them all for awhile. I don’t think he has kept up the past few years though.

  106. Melvin

Dunn showing his value on defense too.

  107. Catfish

Hayes responsible for 7 outs in 4 at bats!

  108. Jedi Joey

Atta boy, Big Tony! Nice outing. 🙂

    • Andrew Brewer

Doesn’t get done any better than that !

Good win for our guys !

      • Jedi Joey

Amen, Andrew! Nice win tonight. 🙂

  109. RedlegScott

We can certainly count on Burns. Good to see the bullpen hold up.

    • Andrew Brewer

Makes a big difference now and then.

  110. BCMurph

To JB per the remaining salary breakdown on Hayes:

What site did you use to find this salary info and is it available on all mlb players?

  111. Michael B. Green

You limit walks, you win games.

  112. Mark A Verticchio

    Big win, let’s go Abbott.

  113. RedsGettingBetter

Reds stop the losing streak and come back above .500 mark on the hand of Chase Burns…the bullpen responded tonight really well…

    • Melvin

Radio broadcasters were saying the way Burns is going he could possibly start in the all star game there in Philly.

  114. Dennis Westrick

Burns is 6-1 with an ERA of 1.83. Can we maybe hear some chatter from the talking heads over at CBS Sports and ESPN about Burns and NOT Skenes as a possible Cy Young candidate?

    • Redwave

Innings limit will be a problem for CYA

      • Dennis Westrick

Good point! Still don’t think Burns gets enough credit from the national baseball media!

  115. GPod

That’s how a BP it supposed to look….let’s see if it can continue…let’s hope

    • Jedi Joey

Will Dennis walk you or do you think you will come through for a base hit, OT???

    • CenTexRed

From the Oldtimer himself, the RLN quote of the season:

      “Who cares about walks?! Sheesh!”

      • VaRedsFan

We all hate walks, we just don’t like hearing about EVERY SINGLE walk a Red’s pitcher issues.

      • Melvin

“We all hate walks, we just don’t like hearing about EVERY SINGLE walk a Red’s pitcher issues.”

Dennis is kind of funny to me. I picture him shaking his head while pacing the floor saying, “Another walk. ANOTHER WALK?”. Poor guy. 🙂

  116. Roger Garrett

Tiger only threw 1 slider and the rest was hard stuff at 94/95.Memo to Ashcraft back off some on the slider and go 99/100 with hard stuff. If they beat you they beat you.Hangers like last night even at 90 go a long way.

  117. Optimist

Has Burns sped right into the ace/stopper role? Will the competition be good for Greene? Even with pitch count/ip limits can he make every rotation start thru the season, even if augmented by a 6-man rotation for a few weeks in late August/ early Sept.?

    • ksdavis

I think Burns is already the ace of the staff. He is pitching better right now than Greene has ever pitched.

  118. Oldtimer

I got hits off better pitchers than him in Knothole and college intramurals. We were Knothole champs in 1961 and 1962 and campus champs in 1973 and 1974. I had little to do with either.

    • Dennis Schiavone

@oldtimer. The most important thing was that you showed up. Good life lesson
