The Cincinnati Reds are coming off of a 4-2 homestand with series wins over the Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies. That’s left them in 1st place and atop the National League Central division at 20-11 on the year. They hit the road to begin the month of May to face the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have lost five games in a row and find themselves in last place at 16-16. First pitch is scheduled this evening for 6:45pm ET. The game is set to begin at 8:15pm ET. This game is only available on Apple TV.

Brady Singer

After a tough start on April 8th where he gave up 10 hits in 2.2 innings to Miami, Singer has turned things around. In the three starts since then he’s allowed six runs in 17.1 innings (3.12 ERA).

The splits this season have been strange this year. Righties are hitting for a lot of power against Singer and he’s striking out almost no one. Lefties are hitting for a very high average, but most of it has been singles. Overall both groups have hit well against him but they’ve gone about it very differently.

Mitch Keller

Cincinnati missed Keller in the series earlier this year. The righty has been good this season with just one poor outing so far when he gave up five runs and walked four batters while hitting another in 4.0 innings against the Nationals in the middle of April.

The splits this season for Keller have been huge. Right-handed hitters have hit just .122 and not had a single extra-base hit in 53 trips to the plate against him. Lefties have been quite a bit better and teams have stacked their lineups with lefties as much as they could. They are hitting .293 and making plenty of contact against him, but they aren’t hitting for much power to this point when facing him.

News and Notes

Weather

It’s been raining in Pittsburgh this afternoon and the rain it supposed to continue until about 6:30pm, but after that it should be clear. With the rain leading up to the scheduled start the game could potentially be delayed at the start, but they should be able to get the game in.

No starter for Monday has been decided

The #reds and Terry Francona have not named a replacement starter for Williamson’s spot on Monday at CHC. Francona said they’re waiting until after Saturday night’s game before seeing which way they go.

Thank you MLB for stealing another game from fans whilst chasing $$$

      • Kevin H

I was going to sign up and it is way to much work. LOL… seems like alot to go through for one game. Just gonna follow on gameday. Sigh

      • Melvin

Whatever works for you Kevin. I was able to do it in a relatively short time. Just wanted to tell you about the option.

    • Brian

Yes how dare the business charge for their product. The gall of them.

All games cost you money. They never gave you the game for free then took it from you so it’s not stealing. Would it be cooler if every game were just included in one “deal” through whatever? Sure that would be awesome. But they aren’t and you and everyone else knew that to be the case for the last decade plus because you needed Fox Sports/Bally Sports/FanDuel to go along with ESPN, MLB Network, FS1, TBS, etc. This is not new.

      • Kevin H

But it was all in one cable package that one paid 75-100 for. We didnt have to have this or that streaming app to specifically watch a game

      • Doug Gray

        *paid $75-100 PER MONTH for*

Now you can pay $100 flat to the Reds for like 155 games, then another like $30 total for whatever app you need once a month for the rest of the games. It’s WAY cheaper now than it used to be for the games if you are only interested in the games.

That said, I definitely have had cable packages in the past that included Fox Sports/Bally Sports but didn’t include FS1 or MLB Network and to get those it was another $15 a month on top of my cable package.

      • Indy Red Man

Another company man. I pay $140 month for satellite and I don’t have the Reds or the Pacers here in Indy. Thats ridiculous

Hey don’t complain about $5 gas. Hundreds of millions of Chinese ride bikes or scooters everywhere they go and it works for them

      • Brian

I didn’t know that the software company I work for also happened to be big satellite! Thanks for filling me in.

If you are not happy with your $140 per month plan then cancel it and get something else. There are a lot of options out there for you.

There’s nothing wrong with riding a bike or a scooter when possible. But where I live we get snow and ice and that makes it impossible. $5 a gallon gas sucks but it’s pretty far down the list of complaints I have. I’ll just try to drive a little less if need be.

      • CincyDo

I don’t have Apple TV but I’ll be watching the game o. Thetvapp

      • Kevin H

@Doug, for your cable bill is what I was referring too in regards to 75-100 a month. Channels like 2-75.

I get your point, however just frustrating, but its just one game

      • greenmtred

I-we-paid for the MLB subscription. This BS is just a way of allowing more fat hogs to feed at the trough. I will not pay for more streaming services, and will seriously consider dropping MLB because they simply renewed my subscription without informing me that a number of games would be unavailable.

      • Melvin

A lot of us have a “bad taste in our mouths” when Fox recently wouldn’t allow Reds fans to see a game because of Regional coverage. Seems like it was for half the country.

  2. Kevin H

So, my rant for the evening. Growing up in 80’s and early 90’s we didnt have alot of channels. I dont remember 74-79 as far as TV goes lol. The channels we did have had ball games yes. Then as TV expanded we got more channels and more chances to watch games. Then time warner or spectrum expands and lopk we can watch more baseball, but it was all included.

Now my goodness you have to have peacock, apple, Amazon (well maybe not) and a mlb package to watch the reds play!!! I know cable still exists. Just so frustrating and very annoying. I dont know about all of you. To me its getting way out of hand.

Rant over, sorry just very frustrating. Gameday it will be!!

    • Indy Red Man

I have Peacock so I click over when the Reds were in Minnesota. They have road & home broadcasts so I think that’ll be fun…I’ll switch back and forth. Blacked out in your local area. What am I paying for then?

    • Dennis Schiavone

When I was young it was all about listening to the reds on my transistor radio.I felt like I felt like I was attending the game

  3. David

    Spin the Wheel of Pitchers!

Any guesses who starts Monday in Chicago?
Bullpen game? My guess is that depending on how Friday and Saturday go, the Reds may have a bullpen game on Sunday against the Pirates, and then push everybody back a day as starters for the Cubs. Nick Lodolo may be back with the Reds by next weekend.

Pirates have lost 5 in a row? Last place? Yet they have better odds of making the Playoffs than the Reds do?
What kind of witchcraft is this, anyways?

  4. RedsGettingBetter

If we look at the numbers it seems this game is favorable to the Pirates, although, the Reds are playing good baseball overall and have become a tough team as of now.
Cubs won today against Arizona. These games facing division rivals are so huge as long as the season unfolds because it would seem that every NLDC team is going to defeat at the most other division ones …

  5. Dennis Westrick

Regardless of the sport, always concerned about playing a team in the midst of a losing streak! Pirates have lost 5 in a row (first loss on the road, then 4 straight losses at home to the Dirty Birds) and the Reds have the additional challenge of facing them in their home park!

Hoping for a quality start from Singer and some early runs to pressure the Pirates SP!

I too am frustrated with the current sports TV climate! In order to watch my home NBA team (Orlando Magic) tonight, have to subscribe to Amazon to get Prime Video!

Miss the good old days with Marty & Joe on Reds radio (WLW)!

    • Doc

Radio is all we had when I was growing up. Somehow we survived. Didn’t blogs to comment in either. Life, at least some aspects, was simpler and good memories.

      • Dennis Westrick

Yep! A small battery-powered AM transistor radio was all you needed! Used to sneak one in my Catholic grade school when the Reds played weekday day games!

      • TR

A very big influence on me and of course many other Reds fans was Waite Hoyt on the radio.

      • Melvin

“A very big influence on me and of course many other Reds fans was Waite Hoyt on the radio.”

Never had the opportunity TR. Must have been awesome.

      • greenmtred

He was, Melvin. My parents and I would be glued to the radio when the Reds were playing. Waite Hoyt was the sound of summer.

  6. Dennis Westrick

No venom in the Snakes this afternoon losing 6-5 to the Cubs! Arizona had 9 LOBs.

  7. Doug Gray

This game will not start on time and is in a rain delay, so to speak. No expected start time has been announced. I will update this when more information becomes available.

    • Dennis Westrick

Thanks, Doug! I’m going to be switching back and forth between the Magic-Pistons NBA playoff game and the Reds!

  8. Doc

Psychologically important series in my opinion. Reds did not play well against the Pirates last year. Now the Reds are on top of the heap and handling an improved Pirates team is a hurdle they need to leap.

    • Dennis Westrick

At least they don’t have to deal with Clint Hurdle anymore!

  9. Indy Red Man

Gave in and signed up for Apple. Their broadcast reporter said she is a weatherologist too and the cold front is supposed to pass through around 7:30 with the game starting about 8:15. We’ll see

  10. VaRedsFan

For those without Apple and are doing the Trial, there are some great Series on there.

    No particular order.

    1. Ted Lasso
    2. The Morning Show
    3. For All Mankind
    4. Pluribus
    5. Masters of the Air
    6. Severance…Highly rated, but I didn’t like it.

    • Doug Gray

I paid up for a month of Apple TV for the earlier Reds game. Was able to push through season 1 of Shrinking. Very good show, but also not sure I’ll keep going with it. It just hits a few too many personal spots for me that are tough. Loved Ted Lasso.

    • CFD3000

I would add Slow Horses to that list. Excellent if you like spy drama stuff with a very unusual style.

      • VaRedsFan

Heard great things, I’ll check it out. Thanks

      • greenmtred

The books it’s based on are great, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a TV show based on a book that cast the characters as well.

    • MBS

The thing about Apple TV is they spend money to produce well made content. You may not be a fan of all of the content, but it’s not like Netflix where they just produce endless amounts of content regardless of quality.

      • Doug Gray

Apple TV has outstanding stuff. But they just don’t have much stuff.

      • VaRedsFan

I agree with both of those assessments.

    • Indy Red Man

Really liked Day Of The Jackal…on Peacock I think

  11. RedlegScott

Were any of you guys told that the game was going to be on Amazon Prime today? I have it in my calendar that way but I don’t see it there. Thx.

  12. Doug Gray

First pitch is now scheduled for 8:15pm ET

  13. AllTheHype

Funny, I am holding Apple puts into Monday. Good timing. Maybe it will go down because of Reds fans’ angst.

  14. Indy Red Man

Magic +3.5 looking pretty good. Took Bleday RBI tonight +287 w/boost. He’s 2-6 with a HR off Keller and I doubt they pinch-hit for him w Hinds

  15. Kevin H

Friedl gonna hit a lead off hr. Callin it

  16. RedlegScott

Keller didn’t have to work very hard for that one.

  17. Dennis Westrick

Reds hitters need to be patient! Pirates BP has to be gassed after their series with the Cards.

  18. RedsGettingBetter

Keller has been a guy who has control issues so why the Reds are so agressive in this first inning? They should be patient and not chasing…

  19. RedsGettingBetter

Reynolds is a Reds killer …Singer left that 0-2 pitch in the middle

    • Dennis Westrick

Yes he did! On a 0-2 count no less!

  20. RedlegScott

I was just about to say, I hope Singer has more than just a sinker and a slider to throw up there. Oops.

  21. VaRedsFan

Reynolds got all of that on a cold night.

  22. Indy Red Man

0-2 pitch…cmon man? If he does that on 2-2 then I can live with it, but you have to see if he can get himself out first. Singer is functional, but I don’t want him back

  23. CincyDo

All ground balls in 2nd inning for Singer. That’s a good sign.

  24. RedlegScott

Tito has more patience with MM in the 2-hole than I do.

  25. Mark A Verticchio

Mclain in the 2 hole is a joke.

  26. RedsGettingBetter

McLain has no chance swinging every pitch away and stranded the runners

    • CincyDo

Longer bat and standing closer to plate Dont help him as much.

  27. RedsGettingBetter

Walking Davis as leadoff hitter is really awful

  28. RedsGettingBetter

Singer paid for walking Davis…Reynolds killing the Reds

  29. Indy Red Man

Wasn’t long ago when they said you should have your best hitter in the 2 hole. I don’t get it?

Singer has nothing. They need to pay attention to that 5.56 era season not long ago

  30. VaRedsFan

As you can see, or most people anyway, the Pirates aren’t worried about running pitch counts up. Swing at strikes, no matter the count.

  31. Mark A Verticchio

When healthy Singer is the Reds 6th or 7th starter.

  32. Indy Red Man

I’d consider Bleday in the 2 hole vs righties. He’s lefty and had a .338 obp vs righties in 2024. We really get nothing from McLain except walks. He has none of the #2 hitter skills you need and he’s a righty.

Or just move everyone up Friedl/Myers leadoff, Elly 2nd, etc etc. Simple logic you want your best hitters to come up the most

    • Melvin

I’d play Myers every day and put him at leadoff until he proves he can’t handle it.

  33. RedlegScott

I get that Singer is a workhorse in the 5 spot, but I’m getting to the point where I’d like to see him in long relief.

    • VaRedsFan

Provide a solution, instead of just removing him

    • Jedi Joey

Addition by subtraction is a good start. Brady Singer is terrible this year.

  34. Kevin H

Stewart 5-25 last seven games. Time to move him from 4th spot. Maybe send him down. haha

    • Melvin

He’s going through the expected adjustment time. My money is on him to be able to do it.

      • Kevin H

Sarcasm Melvin!! I don’t know how do type sarcasm LOL

      • Melvin

I know you were Kevin. Just making a comment.

      • Kevin H

All Good and I do agree he will make the necessary adjustments

  35. RedsGettingBetter

    Reds are harmless tonight aparently…

  36. Indy Red Man

Pitt gave up 30 in 4 games to the Cards so I figured between the cold and our bats we’d get them right. We may get hammered in divisional play if we can’t get the lineup straightened out and get Lodolo going

  37. Melvin

Good scoop by Stewart. Saved Elly an error.

  38. Don

It’s a tall order to run guys out there who have ERAs well over 5.00 and expect an already suspect offense to pick up the slack. You can win with quality starting pitching and you can win with quality offense, but you can’t win minus both. Hunter Green cannot get back fast enough.

    • Kevin H

Most teams can’t win minus both..

  39. Indy Red Man

Orlando blew 22 pt lead and Singer is getting smashed. Not good

    • CincyDo

Rough night. Singer is quite good at throwing the ball right down broadway tonight.

  40. Indy Red Man

9 hitter at .167 with no HRs goes 437 dead CF in the cold. Great job Singer

    • Kevin H

He was a top prospect at one time. Davis that is LOL

    • VaRedsFan

Hays has a HR, and he was batting about .060 at the time.

  41. RedsGettingBetter

Poor outing by Singer and only lasting 3 plus innings to burn the bullpen in this huge stretch

  42. CincyDo

Singer is ONLY effective when he can throw his slider/sweeper for strike. If he has to go with the sinker for strike, he is a punching bag, gets hit left and right

  43. Dennis Westrick

Again, Lodolo cannot get back soon enough!

    • AllTheHype

      He’s not replacing Singer though.

  44. Kevin H

Well glad I am not watching this on tv. LOL Baseball is such a funny game, the highs and lows.

  45. CincyDo

Watching Skene doing the interview and happy after his team got swept in a 4 game series, we all should cheer up, Reds are doing great.

    • Mitch

They’re a paper tiger. Neutralize Elly and Sal and the lineup becomes impotent immediately. And it seems teams have been doing that lately.

      • greenmtred

Less true than it was a couple of weeks ago. Only a few teams would still have much offensive force if you removed their two best hitters.

  46. JB

Flip on the game just in time for the customary Apple TV Interview. I’m sure there will be others. Back to hockey

  47. RedsGettingBetter

This game hasn’t put away yet really. 0-4 in top of 5th is reachable as long as the Reds batters wake up …

  48. RedsGettingBetter

    Stephenson had a good at-bat but refused to walk…it’s a shame…

    • Kevin H

On flip side he battled and happend to get out. I see the pitch was outside, however when having less than a second to decided to swing or not. I can understand why he didnt walk

      • RedsGettingBetter

Yeah I also understand your point but I mean he had the chance to walk and that was going to put Keller in trouble but decided to make swing not once but twice…

  49. Old-school

McLain at the 2 hole isnt working.
    Hayes cant hit

    Gotta adjust those guys.

    Catching offense is a hole.
    Leadoff is a hole.

Singer and Abbott arent getting it done and Williamson is done.

    Need Lodolo now
Need Greene ASAP but he is 2 months away
    Catchers cant hit.

Could be a reality check 7 games against the Cubs and Pirates.

    We got holes everywhere.

Spencer Steer isnt one of them

    • Indy Red Man

Yeah 1-2-9 are depressing. Stephenson is depressing. Hinds is a bust.

Bring back Marte and bat him 2nd. He will go the other way for sure. Find a better hitting backup C or trade for one and cut Trevino. Won’t take much to beat Stephenson/Trevino. Geno gets back and bench KBH vs righties.

The numbers are out on this stuff. Maybe Friedl wakes up some, but despite being 5’9 he hasn’t walked since 4/12? KBH is out and he’s the new 9 hitter vs righties

      This one is done

      • Mitch

No don’t bring back Marte. Arroyo and Rodriguez need to be given their shots.

  50. Jeremiah

I was hoping St. Louis didn’t sweep Pitt because I think it’d make the Pirates angry and more motivated to beat the Reds. Pirates kinda embarrassing the Reds this year, Reds need to pick it up against them, setting a bad tone for the NL central matchups.

  51. Mark A Verticchio

This could be a long road trip.

  52. Kevin H

Wow 20-11 and reading comments right now one would think reds are terrible.

    • Mark A Verticchio

That isn’t the issue it’s just that the stats don’t add up to the record. My fear is that if things don’t get better the record will go south.

      • Kevin H

Its one game let’s see how the road trip goes. I mean they can’t in my opinion be perfect every single game. Greene and Lodolo out hurts, and Singer and Abbott have both struggled. Offense in first few weeks as well. Through it all they are a good baseball team.

      • Mitch

^^^ This 100%. They’ve been lucky thus far.

    • Indy Red Man

You do realize 12-1 in one run games is not sustainable right?

    • RedlegScott

Abbott at least showing signs of life and getting a W yesterday. However, Williamson and Singer? Yes, need Lodolo and eventually Greene. What’s more disconcerting to me, however, is the on-again off-again hitting reminiscent of last season.

    • David

      Kevin,
      That’s not terrible….

It’s turrible. Just turrible. They are having a bad night, because the pitching is bad. And they are not hitting the Pirate’s pitcher. That usually leads to a loss.

      Just turrible.
“Tomorrow is…another day!” – Scarlet O’Hara, from “Gone with the Wind!”

  53. VaRedsFan

Too bad there was a rain delay, or this game would be over by now.

  54. RedsGettingBetter

Ok this game could be considered over after that…

  55. Jeremiah

Looks like Trevino might get some more work in tonight from the pen the way this game is going!

    • Dennis Westrick

He needs to work on that 60+ ERA!

    • Melvin

Hope Stephenson calls a better game this time. 😉

  56. Dennis Westrick

Of course, a walk by Maxwell then a HR!

  57. RedlegScott

The only positives I’m getting from this game so far is a clear indication as to what might need to get fixed. Tito?

  58. AllTheHype

And THAT is why Maxwell will never be a MLBer.

Lacks command, throws 3 center center 98 mph FBs to Ozuna, who has been horrific this year. The third one he didn’t miss.

If you miss center center once in awhile it happens. 3 times to same batter is no bueno.

  59. CincyDo

This is why run differential does not mean squash when it comes to the Reds. Reds win close all close games, but when they lose, they get blown out

  60. Melvin

Our butts are in pain tonight. Getting kicked hard.

  61. Indy Red Man

I guess its a 40 man roster thing, but is Tito going to bring up every reliever at Lville thats worse then Richardson and leave him there? Baby Huey is horrific

    • Kevin H

I liked Richardson as I thought early on last year he did okay. Hopefully he gets another chance

  62. AllTheHype

Maxwell just grooving batting practice in the middle of the plate. Take that crap back to Louisville.

Try Diet Coke while you’re at it.

    • LarkinPhillips

I said it all spring and on RML, if Maxwell can’t get into mediocre shape at least and take himself seriously, then the Reds shouldn’t either. I don’t expect pitchers to be Mikey Biceps, but he makes Barolo Colon look like a fitness model at this point.

      • Indy Red Man

Reds with Jumbo Diaz. That other AAA guy that sent me into a frenzy every time he came in. The Reds have had a bunch of wide loads.

Kuhnel was his name. Blast off every time he came in

        Sal Romano
        Harang

No reason to be a pro athlete and be 30-60 lbs overweight

    • Dennis Westrick

Diet Coke is bad for your health! So are line drives hit at 100 mph+ back at your head!

  63. RedsGettingBetter

Henry Davis 2-homer game is a joke…what a poor game tonight. It’s the same that happened on last Wednesday

  64. Brett

Offense back at mid season form. Tired Old Tito not shaking it up at all;; same worn out lineup every night. That reminds me, IS DUSTY BACK?? Starting pitching has problems, can’t count on anyone on a consistent basis besides Burns. Pirates just got swept in 4 by the Cards our team now playing them like scared three year olds. Very disappointing. Extremely disappointing.

    • Kevin H

About as disappointing as your useless comments

      • Jedi Joey

@Kevin, c’mon man. There is no reason to be rude and make it personal. Let people vent even if you don’t agree with it.

      • Kevin H

He doesn’t bring anything to the conversation. He is rude and disrespectful towards Francona. Go back and read what he says. I don’t find my comment rude

      • Jedi Joey

Useless comments isn’t rude? You do you man. I prefer the ignore method.

      • Mitch

He’s right and you’re (incorrectly) optimistic as usual. Record doesn’t mean everything. Stats are more telling.

      • greenmtred

The truth is sometimes rude. Brett seems to be doing performative negativity: we only hear from him after a loss.

      • greenmtred

Stats more telling than the record? It could be said that stats don’t measure everything relevant.

  65. Jeremiah

I think Pirates pen is not great so if Reds could be in close games they’d have the edge last 3 innings or so vs. Pittsburgh but not working out so far this year that way.

  66. Kevin H

Well tonight isnt their night. Seems like pirates have the reds number of late. Just like reds own rockies of late. Baseball is truly a funny game

    • RedlegScott

Hopefully, we’ll have better luck with Lowder and Burns.

    • VaRedsFan

      He is +900
Might as well make some cash.

Take a picture of the ticket and show us.

  67. AllTheHype

And now we have to burn relievers that matter because Maxwell throws 42 pitches to get 3 outs.

I’m going to special delivery a case of Diet Coke to Louisville Slugger Field in his name.

    Drink them all then retire.

  68. David

    Send in Trevino! 🙂

Of course, Stephenson has to catch him…darn the luck.

This is really the second melt-down in pitching this week. This may become a bad pattern. And yes, Maxwell is not a Major League pitcher yet.

And as I have said at least 3 times this week, the Reds are going to have to monkey around with the 40 man to get guys who are actually pitching well (in relief) in Louisville up here when they need help.
When Williamson has his MRI and the diagnosis, I would not be surprised if he goes on the 60 day disabled list, to rest his shoulder and then have physical therapy on it, to get back into pitching shape. That would open up a spot on the 40 man.

    • RedlegScott

Trevino’s pitches are so slow he ought to be able to catch himself.

      • Melvin

haha They were at about 55 MPH last time. Much slower than a hard throwing Little Leaguer. I guess TS didn’t call for any fastballs. Must have been it. 🙂

  69. Indy Red Man

Reds are 12-0 in 1-2 run games. I could’ve sworn they said we were 12-1 the other day before the last Rockie game?

  70. RedlegScott

Great news, everybody! Freidl has trended up and has finally hit the Mendoza Line.

  71. AllTheHype

Friedl seems to be coming around. I’m all for moving Matty down at this point. It’s not working. Bleday or Myers in the two hole may work better.

    • CincyDo

Agree. Sit MM a couple games and have Meyers take his place. I am probably 50% sure MM will hit when he’s back in line up.

    • Redwave

Move MM down to AAA and give Arroyo a shot.

  72. RedsGettingBetter

Friedl reaches .200 avg.. Is it a good sign?

  73. Mark A Verticchio

Not trying to cause a problem but Mclain in the 2 hole is a problem.

    • Kevin H

I do agree I was about to make a post in that regards
      Cant keep hitting him there.

  74. Kevin H

Great conversation this evening guys and gals. I enjoy the banter and conversations. I do wish I could tell if people are being sarcastic, serious, or funny more. Its hard sometimes on here

    • RedlegScott

Ask Doug to pay for a sarcasm font

    • Dennis Westrick

Surely you jest! And don’t call me Shirley!

      • RedlegScott

OK, Shirley, YOU get to pay for the site’s new sarcasm font.

  75. Ron

Besides the poor pitching and the absence of offense tonight, I think the main problem tonight is the Reds are not in this game mentally. You have to be physically ready and mentally ready for every game. Blame it on the travel, the rain delay or the cold. Who knows. Or it could be a case of CBTP. Can’t Beat The Pirates.

  76. RedsGettingBetter

    What’s happening to Johnson?

  77. RedlegScott

Maxwell and Johnson clearly demonstrating they are not quite ready for prime time.

  78. Jeremiah

In a bad night, good sign Friedl getting some hits. Maybe he turns it around and has a good May?

My pessimistic thought is I wouldn’t be surprised if the Reds have a reverse record in May like 10-20. If a few starters struggle, Stewart slows a bit, competition better, etc.

But I think they’ll be OK overall. Health with pitching will be big as always.

  79. AllTheHype

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why the fast guys don’t bunt it back to Fat Max.

But I guess you’d be passing on a grooved FB.

The first option would be much more entertaining though.

  80. lsimfred

Singer has always seemed just a step or two above mediocre relatively, compared to all the hyperventilating and press clippings once he arrived. Raliably adequate a slight majority of the time, an occasional fine outing but then…..expendable and wouldn’t be terribly missed if traded once the big guns come back.

  81. The Duke

Can we DFA Maxwell already? I’ve had my fill of Big Diabetes.

  82. RedlegScott

Highlights of the game so far: Freidl with two hits along with Moll and Mey putting up goose eggs.

  83. TR

Not a good night for the Reds. Cards are winning and Cubs and Brewers have won. Reds need a comeback win tomorrow.

  84. RedlegScott

Sweet! We get Trevino with his 33.75 ERA.

  85. Mark A Verticchio

Awful night and not the way to start a big road trip. Now two rookie pitchers have to pick the team up.

    • RedlegScott

Fortunately, they aren’t just any rookies. I like our chances with these two.

    • The Duke

I mean, that’s why you draft these guys top 10.

  86. Melvin

Can’t believe Trevino walked that guy. Dennis, are going to put up with that? 😉

  87. Redwave

Best pitching on the night for Reds right there.

    • RedlegScott

That blazing knuckleball and that 42 mph fastball!

  88. RedsGettingBetter

Embarrassing loss…. These games against the division rivals have to be played hard , fighting all game…

  89. Melvin

Glad I’m on a trial membership and didn’t pay for this game. 🙂 That reminds me. I need to cancel right now before I forget and get charged in seven days.

  90. Rob

Think we better bring the term over achieving back into the vocabulary. Things are great as we are 8 games over 500 and tied for first. But by June 1, are we more likely to be 15 games over 500 or 3-4 games over? We are going through a tough stretch without Lodolo, Williamson, and Ashcraft. Good teams overcome that and hold the line. But I am not sure we have enough offense to do that. There is no pitching help at Louisville. We have seen the best via Franco, Mey, Nicolas, and Maxwell. We could have more of these 8-10 run losses until we get Lodolo, Williamson, Ferguson, and Ashcraft back onboard. But once this occurs, we need to take stock. Have a reality check. Are we a first place team or are we an unimproved team from 2025? Is the overall pitching just as sound? Offensively, have we improved enough with Suarez and Stewart and the bench? Who are Hayes, McLain, and Stephenson. With their fresh start in 2026, have they shown 2025 was an aberration? And are Hinds, Bleday, and Benson good reserves? Or did we badly misjudge and now what? I think things will become pretty clear in the next 3 weeks on who we are. And more importantly, who do we intend to be? Maybe some matters we really don’t want to hear.

    • Don

The season RS-RA difference is now -22. I think we are seeing this team come back down to earth. You can’t expect to succeed in the long run by banking on winning by a run or two most every night.
