Chase Burns

After beginning the season with two outstanding starts Burns struggled in his last outing as he recorded just two strikeouts, walked four, and gave up five runs in 5.1 innings in a loss to the Angels. Cincinnati has scored exactly two runs in each of his three starts this season.

When it comes to the splits for Burns in his limited action in the big leagues there’s been a big difference in how lefties and righties have performed against him. Right-handed hitters have found next to no success at all. Left-handed hitters have hit quite well against him, though, showing a high average, a lot of walks, and plenty of power.

Landen Roupp

In two road starts this season Roupp has thrown six innings in each game and allowed just one earned run between the two of them. But his start at home on April 4th saw the Mets put up five earned runs against him in 4.2 innings.

In 2025 he was not nearly as good on the road where his ERA was more than two runs higher than it was at home (4.76) and hitters had an OPS of .820 against him. When it comes to platoon splits the OPS isn’t all that different, but the two groups get there a bit differently. Lefties walk more often and they make more contact, but they hit for a lower average despite that.

Another Emilio Pagan update

Mark Sheldon of Reds.com has the update

Closer Emilio Pagan threw a bullpen session at 9:15 am today and came out of it fine. Still a tight left hamstring but the club feels Pagan dodged a more serious injury. He’d like to pitch, if needed, today but his availability remains uncertain. #reds

Sal Stewart setting records

From OptaSTATS: Sal Stewart is the only rookie to have at least 7 HR, 17 RBI, 13 walks, 4 doubles, and 3 steals in any 18-game span as a rookie since 1920 when RBI became an official stat.

ESPN Power Rankings

There’s not much news today, especially because it’s an early afternoon game, so I figured I’d just toss this one in here for those who want to yell at someone online: ESPN’s Power Rankings have the Reds at #16. The last place Chicago Cubs at at #10, the Brewers are at #9, and the Pirates are at #8. The 10-8 St. Louis Cardinals are down at #26. And to tie it in to today’s game – San Francisco is at #27.

When was the last time the Pirates had a 60% chance of making the playoffs in April?

    Color me amused.

    • Roger Garrett

Pirates added offense in Lowe who in 9 years has always had an OPS+ over 100 and O Hearn who the last 4 years has been over 100 every year.Marvel Ozuna was also brought in but not sure what he has left but he could always hit and is at DH.Cruz is also playing well.Just a young guy they continue to run out there and of course they have Reynolds. Looks like they are all in this year on hitters. We will see how that works out but we know they can pitch and of course the young position player they just brought is considered to be a can’t miss prospect.Pirates maybe be getting it as far as supporting Skeens and others withe some bats.

    • RedlegScott

They certainly showed us what they were capable of.

  2. Dennis Westrick

Once again the Reds have a chance to sweep a 3-game series! Facing one of the Giants better SP (when compared to Mahle). Some early runs would be nice!

Hoping for a bounce back start from Mr. Burns today! He can certainly help himself by reducing the walks he had in his last start.

And most importantly, a win this afternoon to complete the series sweep would be a pleasant distraction from being stuck in the office!

    Go Reds! Keep winning!

    • Dennis Westrick

Been saying that for years! Stats don’t lie!

      • greenmtred

They may not lie outright, but they can mislead: is the problem the coach or the aptitude of the players? Silk purse and sow’s ear, and all that. In this case, I don’t know, but I’m inclined to agree with you, Dennis. Though I have noticed that many players on the teams the Reds are playing have numbers so far this year that seem unimaginably bad, too.

  3. William

Can Rece Hinds hit MLB pitching consistently enough to be a regular outfielder? He has the opportunity to show it. I do not know.

      • Kevin H

What does AAAA mean? Unless I am confused.

      • greenmtred

It means the player has mastered AAA and can”t Translate that to MLB.

      • greenmtred

I have no idea why I capitalized translate.

      • Indy Red Man

It means the guy is stuck in the Twilight Zone where he beats up AAA pitching but can’t break through in the bigs

      • Kevin H

Thank you all for the comments. Makes sense when you guys put it that way. Lol

  4. RedlegScott

Break out the brooms today! Get her done, Mr. Burns/Reds.

  5. CincyDo

It’s at a point where I tune in every time Sal is on deck. Look away the rest of the time to keep my pressure low. As for Burns, man, the guy needs to work harder at his craft to develop 3rd pitch. He will have success here and there with his current 2 pitches but not elite. Go Reds

  6. Melvin

Don’t get hurt over there chasing that pop up Sal.

  7. old-school

Put one in the run prevention column for PJ Higgins.

  8. Steve

Anyone else surprised lowe isnt in the lineup

    • Melvin

If KBH ultimately fails it’s not going to be because he didn’t get every chance to succeed.

      • Don

If Hayes struggles mightily throughout the season, I wonder if the Reds might be more aggressive in trying to bring Suarez back in 2027.

  9. greenmtred

Good throw by Higgins to keep a runner out of scoring position.

  10. Kevin H

Man those curve balls are coming in slow by the giants pitcher.

  11. Dennis Westrick

KBH can’t buy a hit! What to do? What to do?

      • Dennis Westrick

That’s thinking! Don’t have a problem with walks by Reds hitters!

      • Melvin

He’s walked four times in 49 PA so far.

      • greenmtred

And only struck out three times.

  12. Indy Red Man

No way Geno can be worse defensively then KBH is offensively. Could go Lowe 1B Sal 3B too

  13. Dennis Westrick

Need to figure out a way to run up Roupp’s pitch count and get into Giant’s bullpen!

  14. Kevin H

So what do guys think? Looked intentional to me. The catcher came up and started walking out quicker than normal.

Do reds retaliate at some point? I dont condone throwing at guys, but sometimes in this game you stand up for your players?

    • Don

If so, that is being pretty thin skinned on the part of the Giants. There are guys who haven’t been hit who said a lot worse than what Steer said last night.

  15. Jason T.

Nice work so far keeping us in this one Burns.

  16. Melvin

Most likely in my opinion. If so they’re not very smart considering they’re facing a pitcher who throws 100 MPH+.

    • Melvin

In response to: “So what do guys think? Looked intentional to me.”

  17. Melvin

Good DP. Let’s start scoring some runs.

  18. Melvin

Always love it when they walk the bottom of our order in four pitches no less. haha

  19. Melvin

Friedl almost beat it out stopping the DP.

  20. Kevin H

In the old days that would of been a baseball hit up the middle by Mclain. Lol

    • Melvin

Yeah I know. McLain must have had a BIG hole to hit to on the right side.

  21. BCMurph

Growing tired of the Friedl experiment at lead-off and starting altogether.

Why don’t they just send him or Benson down to L’Ville and bring up Bleday? It would seem logical and beneficial at this point.

Maybe move Cruz to leadoff and slot Bleday behind McClain?

    • Jason T.

Our 1-2 portion of the batting lineup not getting it done.

  22. Jason T.

Another nice inning by Burns. He’s doing his part. Offense, your move.

  23. Roger Garrett

Something is not right with Friedl. He has zero extra base hits and only two hits have left the infield I believe it is.As productive as he has been in his career something is going on.

  24. Roger Garrett

Slow stuff eating the Reds for lunch.Steer will make him pay for that cause he hammers the off speed stuff.

  25. old-school

Geez its like both teams have a plane to catch or something.

    • greenmtred

Bad strategy, O-S, since the game might go into extra innings.

  26. greenmtred

I was hoping for an early blowout (by the Reds, of course): I’ve got three cords of wood to put in the woodshed.

    • Melvin

Didn’t you say earlier you’re nearly 80 years old?

    • Roger Garrett

Go ahead don’t think you will miss a thing.I was hoping we may score so I can finish mowing but it may be tomorrow and I can’t wait that long.Got to go.GO REDS and be like David and slay the Giants.

      • Melvin

Looks like we need at least one “David” to hit a HR and win this game.

  27. Roger Garrett

Maybe but neither can hit.Dude has us no hit after 4 on 50 pitches and he has walked a couple. He is slow slower and even slower.Reds hitters can almost swing twice on 76 mph.Anybody seen Bronson Arroyo.

  28. Jason T.

Thank you Burns, fun to watch pitch. At least there’s that.

  29. Noyes

This guy’s breaking ball is gross. Get him out of there.

  30. Justin T

tough at bat for Steer up 3-0 then strikes out. The breaking stuff has Reds hitters off balance.

    • Noyes

He’s missing wildly with the heater too. Process of elimination…

Like even the 3-2 cutter to Steer was down the middle, that was just a good pitch call.

    • Melvin

Steer is our best breaking ball hitter too at least one of them.

  31. Kevin H

The break on his curve ball is amazing. Man….

  32. RedsGettingBetter

Reds hitless through five innings…This game depends on Burns and bullpen keeping the Giants off the board too… This doesn’t look good today…we’ll see

    • Melvin

Just need one player at this point to get a hold of that breaking ball and it will be bye bye baseball.

  33. Melvin

That guy is throwing in the mid 70s. smh Probably time to start moving up in the box and daring him to throw fast balls?

  34. Gpod

This pitcher is the last thing Hinds needed the way he is going…but let’s face it, we have seen this from Hinds before….not productive when he gets on the big stage

    • The Duke

I think they should still give Hinds this weekend. That’s pretty much a full week starting. If he still isn’t producing, then his shot may be passing him by, but he won’t be able to say he didn’t get his shot.

    • Jason T.

Outside of Higgins with a hit and a walk, no other Red has done much either today.

    • Melvin

In his defense we have no hits through five innings and five strikeouts. At least he’s put the ball in play twice and barely missed driving it on a pop up.

      • The Duke

I’m just happy he isn’t striking out, but i’d be happier if he put a charge into one.

      • Melvin

“I’m just happy he isn’t striking out, but i’d be happier if he put a charge into one.”

Me too Duke. Hopefully it’s a sign he’s at least starting to settle down and time it.

  35. Brady

What happened that this franchise is suddenly cursed offensively? I swear we could trade rosters with the Dodgers and our hitters would still hit below .250.

  36. Jason T.

And another from Burns. He’s done his job today. Well done young man.

    • The Duke

You could argue that Burns might be the staff ace already. He’s going to keep improving and he is already dang good. I’d love to see them announce extensions for Burns and Sal.

      • Jason T.

Fully agree. great points all around. Lock up these 2 while we can afford them.
Burns looks so much more comfortable on the mound now, Gaining confidence. Pitching with conviction. He’s a rising star.

      • Melvin

I just get the feeling the Reds aren’t going to lock anyone up until after the new CBA unless it’s a VERY team friendly deal unfortunately. It could very well come back to bite them.

  37. Noyes

A walk, a hit, a challenge win, a caught stealing… happy P.J. Higgins day to all who celebrate.

  38. Brady

Higgins now up to .286, put him in the two hole.

  39. Justin T

nice at bat from Higgins, just put the bat where the ball is. Wish more guys in that lineup knew how to do that.

  40. old-school

PJ Higgins. You just cant stop him.
guns a runner, walks, breaks up the no-no.
Maybe he will do his Austin Wynns impersonation and go on a heater.

  41. Melvin

Wow. Mr. Sadak just said Friedl doesn’t have an extra base hit yet this season.

    • Melvin

78 PA so far but he got on base this time. 🙂

  42. greenmtred

Do not..do not hit into a dp, Matt.

  43. Dennis Westrick

Somebody please hit one of those lollipop curve balls into the stands! Burns deserves a W for his effort today!

  44. CincyDo

HBP for TJ. Have not seen a lot of it this year. Good time to get one

  45. The Duke

McLain needs a better two strike approach. Just get bat on ball and use his solid speed.

    • Justin T

      Absolutely his biggest problem Duke.

  46. Melvin

Another 77 MPH breaking ball to get McLain. We gotta start sitting on his off speed stuff.

    • Kevin H

Chris Welsh said in one broadcast this season or maybe last few years. He said batters dont seem to move up in the box to hit that type of slow pitch.

      • Melvin

Well today is one day they maybe should start. Can’t be stubborn.

  47. The Duke

Ooof, Elly coming up small in a big spot

  48. Melvin

Hard to believe EDLC wasn’t able to beat out that DP. Hope he’s not injured again.

  49. Mark A Verticchio

Sadly another poor year for Mclain thus far.

    • The Duke

This is who he is until he learns to cut his K rate.

    • Jason T.

3 xbh, 0 home runs, a dropping OPS+ from an already poor 2025. Rough. Can’t keep status quo forever.

  50. Jason T.

2 on, no outs and nothing to show for it. That’s tough to watch. Our best opportunity so far today slips by with a whimper.

    • VaRedsFan

The worst part is he failed to get the bunt down

  51. Andy

You would think this team could learn how to play small ball to manufacture runs. Numerous examples this year of failure to plate runners after getting men on base.

  52. Kevin H

With all the talk about Sal and rightfully so. Elly has had a great start to his season as well.

I am more impressed with his defense this season. He seems more smooth.

And as I was typing he made a error.

      • Kevin H

LOL… Good one, and yes I take full responsibility

    • Jason T.

Errors will happen. Elly playing overall much better defense, hitting from the right-handed side. A lot to like along with Elly and with Stewart.

    • greenmtred

Yes, Kevin, that error is your fault. But I agree with you: besides being more reliable on grounders, he’s throwing more accurately. Really good to see.

      • VaRedsFan

        exactly…his throwing is improved.
Figured out he doesn’t have to throw it 100 mph to get the guy out.
        Accurate throws this year.

    • Melvin

Too bad it was a costly one. Should have been out of that inning.

  53. Matt McWax

Giants really want this one and aren’t making many mistakes. Elly boots one as I type this.

    • VaRedsFan

What does a team do different, when they “really want” it?

  54. The Duke

Does Elly have money on the Giants?

  55. Noyes

It’s probably for the best that he added 12 pounds over the offseason, but he has looked a step slower this year.

  56. Justin T

Come on Elly, thats a concentration issue. Wonder if his GIDP was still on his mind?

  57. Melvin

Guess Hayes had a long way to go from where he was playing but I was surprised he didn’t catch that one.

    • VaRedsFan

      It’s like he slowed up…
Maybe Higgins called him off. But he definitely slowed down.

  58. Michael B. Green

This is what happens when you pull someone with a shutout.

    • Michael B. Green

You increase the chance of someone else having an off day. His name is Burke today. Managers do not understand statistics and probability.

      • Kevin H

In all fairness Burke should of been out of the inning. The error came back to bite the Reds.

      • greenmtred

They do understand fatigue. And the opposing team’s increasing familiarity with the pitcher as the game progresses.

      • Michael B. Green

Yamamoto put that argument to bed last year.

  59. greenmtred

The sweep is fluttering out the window.

  60. RedsGettingBetter

For the second day in a row Burke doesn’t have a good outing… Is this game away?

    • RedsGettingBetter

Of course he also was hurt by Elly

    • Doug Gray

There was a zero percent catch probability on either of the balls hit to left field. No one would have caught them or likely have come close.

      • Doug Gray

Well based on a decade of data as tracked by MLB no left fielder has ever been able to run fast enough in a perfectly run route to catch that baseball.

  61. Mark A Verticchio

Poor game all around so far. 2 and 3 hitters fail in the boom of the 6th. Elly makes an error gifting 2 runs and Tito pulls Burns too early.

  62. Dennis Westrick

For all intents and purposes, this one may be over! Hoping the Giants make a pitching change soon!

  63. Gpod

This is what happens when you don’t handle a simple ground ball to open an inning

  64. Kevin H

Should of been a 1,2,3 inning for Burke for those just tuning in. A error and here we are 2-0

    • Dennis Westrick

Don’t know which is worse? Errors by Reds fielders on routine balls in play or walks by Reds pitchers!

      • Kevin H

Not sure as both happen right? Normally though a team doesn’t make say 3 errors in a game, however they may walk 3 or more in a game.

  65. RedsGettingBetter

    The Elly’s error haunted a lot…

  66. Optimist

Not a clean game. Not a good sign.

  67. Noyes

Baseball gods didn’t love that error.

  68. Justin T

Not the worst Reds team ive ever seen by a long shot, but top 5 most frustrating to watch. To see Chase Burns working like he was today and have nothing to show for it sucks. Hoping for some late inning magic.

  69. Mark A Verticchio

Elly has had a bad game. Could be a great player but still does not have that clutch gene.

  70. Matt McWax

Haven’t scored in the 7th yet, fits my rough perception that they are poorly studied on opposing pitching staffs, a longtime Reds problem.

  71. Michael B. Green

Game is not over. Their manager just did the same thing – took someone dealing out of the game for zero reason.

    • greenmtred

He had a reason, but it had little to do with math.

    • Michael B. Green

Take starting pitchers out when they are struggling – not before. Otherwise, let them tell you when they are tired. Sandy Alcantara said it to the press a week or so ago: “I would have liked to have been asked…”

  72. RedAlert

Pitiful offensive showing … just pitiful

  73. Gpod

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who thought after scoring 8 runs yesterday…..probably score 0 tomorrow (today)

  74. Justin T

Seeing all of those empty seats makes one wonder if they city has bought in on the first place Reds yet. There is next to no noise coming from the stands. Hate that for the players, especially a day game after a night game. They could use the energy.

    • VaRedsFan

      Agree.
      Not many there yesterday either

  75. Mark A Verticchio

They are about to be 11 and 8 which is good but the offense is terrible and if it doesn’t improve, at least some, bad times are coming. Way too many easy outs = 2nd base, 3rd base. right field. center field and catcher.

  76. Kevin H

I notice a theme here on RLN. When Reds are winning a certain fanbase is here and commenting etc..

When they are losing or like today down 3-0 the other fanbase comes here commenting.

I am not putting anyone down, everyone does what they do. Just a observation

    • Justin T

Its a theme for sports fans around the world Kevin. I can be as negative as anyone but at the end of the day I want them to win. I am happy to be wrong when it happens if it means the Reds win.

      • Kevin H

I agree Justin and like I said I am not putting anyone down. Just something I observe here from time to time

    • Michael B. Green

I’m always mindful until they start pulling pitchers for no reason. Former pitcher in me. Anyone that has pitched knows the pitch count thing is made up. I’m glad to see that Dave Roberts learned a hard lesson in Game 1 or 2 of the World Series last year and then pivoted. It (barely) won them a World Series. TOR wins that if he did not ride Yamamoto.

That’s why, if given the chance, CIN could win it if Hunter Greene throws 15 innings rather than 8-9 over 2 starts. Your very best pitchers should throw. Yamamoto and Snell threw 30 2/3 of 73 innings in the WS.

While expecting your top 2 pitchers to throw 42% of the innings (that’s just over 300 IP each) is not realistic in today’s game, it is sane to expect about 30%. That’s 220 IP each. That obviously won’t happen with Greene and Lodolo both on the IL now, but conceptually, the point is made.

Pretending that 50% of your innings should get handled by your 6th – 10th best pitchers is a recipe for decades of disappointment.

What managers are missing is the tail in the probability model. The tail is much bigger than they think and most importantly, it is much more impactful.

Let Burns get an out or two in the 7th and go from there. If he cruises, then you go batter-to-batter. That part of the game is gone now. That’s why we’re down 3-0.

  77. old-school

FWIW, 2 time defending GG catcher Patrick Bailey is watching the futility of Ke’Bryan Hayes and saying ” hold my beer”.

His offensive numbers are as dreadful.

    • The Duke

Giants complaining about Phillips not getting tossed. By that logic, Roupp should have been tossed as well, considering we knew it was coming.

      • Doug Gray

I think if Phillips hits him the 1st pitch of the at-bat he gets to stay in the game. But he missed him. Then he hit him the next time. Tough to sell the “oops it slipped” thing in that scenario.

      • The Duke

We should hit Adames 1st inning next time we play them since the first one is free apparently.

      • The Duke

But he wasn’t trying to hit him, he was just pitching him inside…….

    • greenmtred

I question whether it was intentional: the game is still within reach, and Phillips can have command issues. Would they really put a guy on in the late innings for vengeance?

  78. Melvin

haha Both teams are ready to go at it.

    • The Duke

Very weak, Tito should get himself tossed with him, send a message.

  79. Kevin H

Wow baseball sure has changed. Why wasn’t the Giants starter tossed? He clearly threw at Steer

  80. Dennis Westrick

During games like these I feel like Bob Uecker in the movie Major League when he is doing the game summary and says; “One hit, that’s all we got? One GD hit?

    • Mark A Verticchio

I feel the same way, I also can’t believe nobody saw Friedl drop that fly ball.

      • Dennis Westrick

It’s time to move on from Friedl! He’s killing this team in the leadoff spot and his defensive skills are suspect at best!

      • Melvin

Yeah. Hard to believe. It clearly came out of his glove for the whole world to see. Can’t believe there was no challenge.

  81. Noyes

Clearly that was on purpose but I did kind of wonder if he’d get away with it. Phillips is so wild, can you ever *really* be sure he’s throwing at someone?

  82. The Duke

Moll comes in like a champ. I guess Nicolas in the 9th unless we stage a comeback?

    • Dennis Westrick

One thing I can say about Nicolas is he’s consistent! He gives up at least 2 walks every appearance!

      • greenmtred

But the Reds have one hit. Why are any of them batting?

    • Matt McWax

He would have been an offensive force in the steroids era. I’m kidding and I’m kidding about kidding.

  83. RedsGettingBetter

CAn the Reds afford Hayes everyday in the lineup with this team poor offense overall?

    • Matt McWax

It’s hard to say whether Nate Lowe’s offense would add more than what would be lost by Sal Stewart’s defense at third.

    • greenmtred

They’d gain a little offense if they sat him. Sort of like a bandaid on a sucking chest wound.

  84. The Duke

Hinds 0-10, 5 Ks across three games now. Squandering his chance. Give him this weekend still imo.

    • Kevin H

I dunno, I still think and hopefully Reds do as well. Give him 100 ab’s at least. I gotta think the dude who has been killing triple A pitching can hit mlb pitching.

      I get it though

      • Justin T

there are thousands of examples of guys killing triple a pitching but cannot hit in the big leagues.

      • Matt McWax

It’s more hoping against something that has proven wrong so many times (Aquino, Francisco, CES in recent times). You still give him more chances at his age and raw talent. I have been more of a proponent of Hector Rodriguez who has less upside but a higher floor in my opinion.

      • The Duke

I mean it’s not like he’s 1 for 9 or 2 for 13, he’s 0 for 10, at some point you need to hit. Same goes for Hayes, but at least Hayes isn’t striking out and plays gold glove defense.

    • Melvin

Not a good start but not NEAR enough chances. One hit today for the entire team by the 9th hitting backup catcher. Suarez has the only walk.

    • Melvin

Salbert Salvotto even struggling today too going 0-3 with a K.

    • Richard Fitch

Give Hinds until this weekend? How generous. What an absurd thing to say.

      • The Duke

How long do you play a player giving you absolutely zero production?

      • Justin T

Absurd is playing a guy clearly overmatched. I get it if you wanna give him a chance but its far from absurd to cut bait.

      • Richard Fitch

Kid does everything you could ask to remake himself in the minors, and you two want to run him out of town after 2 series and a handful of ABs. This is un-serious stuff. No major league organization does business this way when evaluating talent.

  85. Don

Hayes is signed through 2029. He has no trade value whatsoever and he has no options remaining. My gosh, Nick.

  86. Kevin H

@The Duke this is on you if Nicolas struggles 🙂

    • Dennis Westrick

And there he goes! Making a liar outta me! Happy for Nicolas! He’s got good stuff as long as it’s not Just a bit outside!”

  87. Redwave

Nonchalant Joe cool Elly just cost the reds this game. GRRRRRR!

That ooops takes away several of his atta boys!

  88. Dennis Westrick

When the Reds fail to score or only score one or two runs the culprit is usually SOs! Today thru 8 innings Reds hitters have 9 SOs!

  89. The Duke

Good AB from McLain. If Elly can just get on then Sal gives us a chance.

  90. Redwave

WHINEY giants . Ok for them to drill someone then they turn into the victim. Typical SF mentality

    • Dennis Westrick

Maybe the Giant players and staff need a Safe Space!

  91. Don

Not one of Elly’s better games we are witnessing here.

  92. Justin T

Now the Reds wanna fight. You had all afternoon.

  93. Melvin

Just don’t get suspended Sal. We need you.

  94. RedsGettingBetter

The worst offensive game by the Reds today… they were really pitiful.. just 1 hit by the ninth batter and third catcher PJ Higgins … Embarrassing

    • Kevin H

Yeah those off speed pitches throwing all day kept the Reds off balance.

Hats off to their starter, and their bullpen

      • Dennis Westrick

Roupp had more junk than than Fred Sanford!

      • Melvin

“Roupp had more junk than than Fred Sanford!”

And he had a 96+ MPH fastball to go with it. BIG difference between mid 90s and mid 70s like he was throwing.

  95. Mark A Verticchio

That was the worst game this team has played in a long time with Elly leading the way.

  96. Transylvania Red

Thrall said that called third strike on EDLC was on the inside corner, when in fact it was dead center of the strike zone. ZERO pitch recognition by Reds’ batters.

What a miserable offensive showing today.

  97. Dennis Westrick

Was last night’s game a mirage? Only one measly hit by the Backup Catcher for goodness sakes!

  98. Kevin H

Love the fire this team has. They ran into a good pitcher today. Baseball happens.

They have each other’s backs and it showed at the end.

    This team battles

  99. Optimist

The 3rd catcher breaks up the no-no. Oh well, they play again tomorrow.

  100. Kevin H

One last thought on the strike out of Stewart to end the game. It is one thing to yell out like a pitcher does. Yelling out sit the blank down would upset anyone in that moment. Especially since you have a losing record.

    Oh well on to Minnesota

    • Melvin

Well it will get Big Sal fired up the next time they face each other.

    • JohnnySofa

Huh? The Reds had one dribbler of a hit. And it’s all Elly’s fault? Am I still on planet Earth?

      • Redwave

Three runs scored because of Mr. Slick in a scoreless VERY WINNABLE GAME. At home. Late. With the best BP in MLB to date. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Had nothing to do with hits or the lack there of. Elly gave it away late. Period.

  101. TR

Come on Reds, get Lowe into the daily lineup at either first or DH. A good lefthanded hitter on the bench with this inconsistent offense makes no sense.
