Tonight is the newly annual Spring Breakout game that each organization participates in that features a team of each club’s top prospects facing off against each other. The event was created in 2024 and that season the Cincinnati Reds played in two games, as someone must do each spring with an odd number of teams in the Cactus League. They would split the games that spring. Last year they would pick up a win over the Brewers team, watching Sal Stewart drive in three runs in the win. Cam Collier has the only home run for the organization in their three games as he slugged a 2-run homer in the first ever Spring Breakout game back in 2024.
The game tonight will be played at Scottsdale Stadium and be a road game for the Reds. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05pm ET. You will be able to watch this game. If you want to stream it, it will be free on both MLB.com and MLB.tv. The game is also going to be available on MLB Network.

News and Notes
Drafted last season out of high school, Steele Hall (1st round) and Aaron Watson (2nd round) did not play in official games after the draft and have yet to make their official pro debut. Jirvin Morillo and Adolfo Sanchez spent their 2025 seasons in the Dominican Summer League and have not yet made their US pro debut.
Alfredo Duno, Carlos Jorge (pictured above), and Hector Rodriguez have each played in the previous three Spring Breakout games with the Reds. All three are in the starting lineup tonight to make it the first four.
San Francisco Giants shortstop Luis Hernandez is just 17-years-old. He signed out of Venezuela in January for $5,000,000 – the most of any player signed in the international signing period in 2026. He has never played in a minor league game and the Giants are so confident in his abilities they are skipping him over the Dominican Summer League and have brought him straight to the US.

As usual, MLB has done a poor job marketing this and scheduling on the same day as NCAA tourney. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they actually want to grow the game.
On a different yet similar note, the WBC seemed to gain a lot of traction this year.
Plus it’s Blacked out locally on MLB network at least where I’m at in NW Ohio
Yeah, kind of stinks that it’s blacked out in some areas. But you can still tune in on MLB.com or MLB.tv (you need at least a free account for this).
The WBC ratings were incredible for Venezuela vs USA in the championship. Literally double what they were for the last championship game, and on part with the average NBA finals game last year (though there wasn’t just one game, and the final game did much better).
Quick start for the little Reds!
Hector!
Petty mowing them down for his two innings.
Petty through 3 IP with just 27 pitches. Will they give him a 4th?
They did, Petty was just dominant. 6 Ks, only 1 base runner I think. I got they key Watson pitch.
40 pitches, 30 strikes thru 4.
Sweeper to RH at 83-84
Slider to RH 88-90
Change to LH at 88-90
4 Seamer Fastball at 96-98
2 Seamer at 97-102
super night for Chase Petty. I hope he can carry this through starts at AAA. And maybe if he does, he sees time with the Reds this summer.
If somebody goes down, he and Jose Franco might be the first ones called.
His iast pitch in the 4th, Petty threw a filthy slider to Davidson who then challenged, and Petty was shaking he head like you were just fooled pal.
Petty getting right could be huge with HG out until midseason
Hype, that was something.
Thing I’m noticed with Petty, tonight at least, is he was around the zone all night, whereas last year he was all over the map, command just a mess.
Same thing I noticed Dave. Maybe he had something mechanically off last year and he fixed it. Pitching is like golf, little things in mechanics and cause big issues.
Collier is looking substantially more fit this year. Petty is looking good as well.
Our hitters aren’t chasing much out of the zone, very patient
Going the opposite way quite a bit, too. Patient. Disciplined. Smart.
LH pitching on LH batters tough but they are hanging in there well and giving tough at bats.
Watson has a big, big frame.
Watson looked good. 93-95, threw three pitches, made an athletic defensive play. For his first televised appearance as a pro, that went about as well as you could have hoped. Even struck out the Giants big international signee Luis Hernandez. Send him to Daytona!
Quite an athletic play.
I think Henley was safe on the ground ball yo short. Beating out a routine grounder to short … kid can fly.
Nobody will see him in Daytona. Send him to Dayton!
Was hoping Watson would get more than 1 IP but after Petty got 4 I bet everyone else only gets one
super night for Chase Petty. I hope he can carry this through starts at AAA. And maybe if he does, he sees time with the Reds this summer.
If somebody goes down, he and Jose Franco might be the first ones called.
Henley still needs to add some muscle.
A lot of Billy Hamilton in that body. If he can’t hit the ball hard, he won’t get past double A.
Hall is 2+ years younger and looks stronger than Henley.
A lot of Billy Hamilton in that body. The game has changed – he will have to hit the ball harder and farther to have an mlb future.
Harder than the 109.7 he hit that ground out?
Vu on his horse on that Collier single.
Morillo is a bit taller and much leaner than I expected. Thought he might stockier. You can see an athletic catcher in him.
He looks like a linebacker.
Morillo juuuuuust missing that HR opposite field to LC
Morillo delivers a rocket to bring 2 more runs in and now it’s a 9-0 score… A mercy rule is active in this game?
Hall with some nice patience for his at bat. I wish Morillo wasn’t right in front of him, I want to see him run. He supposedly outran Elly in camp
The throw didn’t get the runner but Hall showed a strong arm trying to turn the double play
De La Torre struggled against the Reds prospects but will probably be a pretty good major league reliever. Neville looked a bit overmatched, in the tiny sample size. Giants were overmatched by Petty.
I get that Hernandez was their big $5 million international signing this year, but expecting him to do something against someone like Petty right away is a bit hasty.
Neville is gonna see lefties who have better stuff. If he wants to advance, he has to hit lefties.
Wasn’t a good look
Vu had a nice game.
Not trying to rain on Petty’s parade but he clearly overmatched young hitters. All the same, he did throw strikes and executed his pitches.
That being said, Petty’s not much older than the guys he was beating.
Man, I want that left side of the infield of Hall at SS and Lewis at 3B together in Daytona right away. Do it Reds, do it.
Nice job by Adolfo Sanchez tracking down that deep fly ball in RF
Alcantara definitely has some bat speed
Hall not chasing anything, nice to see him take what is given
Henley called put on a ball. Kid worked a walk. So it goes.
These announcers really talking up a Giants system that is currently losing 9-0
They are the Giants broadcasters…..
Henley was flying for that last out
