News and Notes
Chase Burns and his change up
After his start on Saturday in the opener we took a look at the change up from Chase Burns after he had spent the offseason working on the pitch. You can read about what was different with the offering here.
Struggles against Seattle
The Reds seem to have problems with the Mariners in spring training. They have won just seven of their 30 games against Seattle in the Cactus League.

Out of Options
The following players have no options remaining: Brock Burke, Pierce Johnson, Sam Moll, and Tony Santillan.

let’s all pray for Tejay
What happened??
Interesting, this lineup has a chance to be as opening day candidate only putting Stephenson instead of Trevino …
Bleday punishes one. Looks like benson and Bleday are already competing for that outfield lefty bat spot from the get go.
Reds big inning.
The offense appears to be off to a nice start today.
Burke is topping 97.4 mph in his fastball, really nice…
McLain and Elly adding on.
Jim Day says McLain using a longer bat to cover the outside corner and 2/3 hits are to RF today.
Good catch. Makes sense. He needs to hit to RF with authority like in 2023, that’s going to decide whether he’s a star or a scrub.
Guys look so good when they commit to the oppo approach. Then for no reason at all seem to abandon it, and the slump starts.
Geno was once great with this approach, I hope there is a resurrection in this area for him.
My recollection is that Geno changed his approach so that he could hit more homers. It worked, but at the cost of also going from being a good hitter to being a poor one.
Great to see McClain and Elly get off to hot starts!
I hope Geno likes ribeyes!!!! He’s gonna get a lot of opportunities!
(It’s spring – a guy can hope!)
I got my eye on Garrett (I shot Billy the Kid) Hampson, on-base machine, capable of playing all the Bugs Bunny positions and still coming up like a twig in a muddy river.
GH got fooled on that pitch.
Could happen to anyone.
Antone strikes out Cal Raleigh and throws a 1-2-3 inning. No matter what happens, to overcome what Tejay Antone has and to make it back healthy in spring training and get big league hitters out is a great story.
I am watching with interest and rooting for the guy. Just seems like a genuine good guy and he needs a break to go his way.
Bleday with two 109+ EVs today.
That’s not how you make a bid to head North, Mr. Maxwell.
Welp, its February 22nd at least. LOL
Glad this is ST. 10 walks?!?
The Reds minor leaguers lost to the Mariners minor leaguers today
Well Phillips, Mey, Maxwell, and Richardson will be counted on at some point this year. This is what spring training is for. Finding your release point, your rhythm and muscle memory. I would suspect they will all bounce back throughout the rest of spring training.
Yes, I know Richardson isn’t in the 40 man roster. Just incase someone points this out to me.
Ouch.
Bleday,Hines and Benson making their cases.
