After one of the craziest games you are likely to see in your lifetime being played last night that saw both teams score eight runs in the 8th inning and then go to extras, Atlanta and Cincinnati are back on the field 14 hours later for an afternoon tilt. The Reds will be looking to even up the series after the Braves came out on top in last night’s affair. First pitch today is scheduled for 12:40pm ET. This game is also available on MLB Network as one of the television options.

Brady Singer
This season has seen Brady Singer have two big clunkers for starts that have resulted in 14 earned runs in 4.2 innings. Outside of those two outings he’s been quite solid for the Reds. one of those clunkers came on July 21st. But he rebounded with one of his best starts of the year last time out when he gave up one run and struck out eight batters in 7.1 innings.
The splits for Singer this year are pretty big. Left-handed hitters are hitting for a solid average, and they are hitting for plenty of power when they do get hits. Right-handed hitters aren’t hitting for much average, but they do walk at a good clip. They aren’t finding much power when they do get hits.

Bryce Elder
After being an All-Star in 2023, Bryce Elder has posted a 6.37 ERA in 27 starts since the beginning of 2024. In his last start he allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings in Texas against the Rangers.
The splits are noticeable against Elder this season. Both groups are hitting well against him, but right-handed hitters have a clear advantage. They are hitting like an MVP candidate against him. Lefties are hitting for a solid average, a good on-base percentage, and plenty of power.

Trading the prospects
With the Reds being active at the trade deadline, they moved multiple prospects in deals to acquire big leaguers. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN ranked all 97 prospects who were traded at the deadline this year. The Reds prospects were ranked: 11th (Sammy Stafura), 22nd (Adam Serwinowski), 72nd (Brian Van Belle), and 87th (Kenya Huggins). You can see the full list, as well as write ups on the first two right here.

The Reds gave up 4 prospects for virtually nothing, at least noting that gets them to the playoffs. I can’t wait for the first lineup that has Joe, Andujar, and Espinal all three starting. What a waste of prospect capital and roster space.
Yeah, that was one of the more disappointing trade deadlines I can remember…and there have been plenty of disappointing ones to compete with.
Their o pool re trade deadline goals were to get a solid tight-handed bat, improve the bullpen and improve the defense. Which is always a Tito goal. They improved right-handed hitting outfield with Andujar and Marte moving to outfield, got a starting pitcher with solid numbers to allow Martinez to improve the bullpen, and improved the infield defense. Cross the three goals off the list. Gave up two high A pitchers, neither of whom had shown much dominance and a Low A infielder whose stock had started to fade and had already changed positions as a younger player took his spot,, plus a journeyman AAA pitcher who was acquired when he was DFA and might end up being the best of the bunch. On the whole accomplished goals and gave up very little.
@LDS, the Reds would have had to trade 3 of their 5 Top prospects to do what the Padres did. bruns, Duno, Stewart, Lowder would have all been gone. Would that have been the better choice? Idk
I will agree that the Reds probably could have matched the Suarez trade package without losing much in prospect capital.
I think to beat the M’s package for Suarez we would have needed to trade Cam Collier, Leo Balcazar, and someone like Jose Franco as the third piece.
Technically speaking they gave up 4 prospects for their now starting 3B (which precipitated the needed permanent move of Noelvi Marte to RF), their now #4 starting pitcher (which shifts Nick Martinez into a high leverage reliever AND a long reliever), and the small half of our now DH platoon of Lux/Andujar. Just because we didn’t trade Chase Burns plus more for a LF or 1B doesn’t mean it was nothing. I hated the Hayes trade (but hope I get proven wrong), but thought the other two moves were smart under the radar moves.
Only two of those prospects were in our top 30 prospects, and neither of those two were in my top 10 for the Reds. Should we have sold the farm on this team leaving the cupboard bare for the next few years? Would you be happy had we sent Alfredo Duno, Tyson Lewis, Chase Petty, and Edwin Arroyo to Oakland for Brent Rooker and traded Cam Collier and Rhett Lowder to Minnesota for Jhoan Duran as well?
I’ve not been on the Suarez bandwagon. There were other trades that could have be made that actually moved the team closer to competing. Finding a “platoon partner” is simply lousy roster construction. The team is loaded with one sided utility players. It’s not working. And no, Hayes wasn’t so they could move Marte to RF. But, that may be what they want us to believe. Regardless, Hayes, barring a miracle, is a lousy investment.
I don’t think the ENTIRE point of Hayes was to move Marte the RF, I just think it’s a benefit. The obviously didn’t have confidence in Marte at 3B.
Duke I couldn’t agree more. I’m like the Littell trade and am okay with the Andujar trade. The Hayes trade is perplexing, and its success requires the Reds to transform Hayes into a starting caliber MLB hitter.
The Reds were/are not good enough to warrant the trading prospects for an “all-in” kind of run. After seeing all of the deals, it’s pretty easy to see multiple paths that would have made the 2025 Reds better without mortgaging the future. The Front Office would deserve a “D” for their deadline, but I’ll give them an “Incomplete” and see if Hayes bat comes around this season. As I said in a separate post, acquiring Hayes could have waited until the offseason if it’s the right move for the next four years. Thus, his bat must transform quickly.
I’d give them a C that could raise to a B in hindsight if Hayes works out or downgrade to a D if Hayes flames out and we have to eat the rest of his contract.
“Hayes, barring a miracle, is a lousy investment.”
More “sunk cost”? How many “sunk cost” players has Krall had a part in? Akiyama, Moose, Candy and now probably Hayes just to name a few. Not to mention the crazy David Bell extension. it would seem Big Bob & Son wouldn’t be too happy about that.
All prospects are technically not Major League players unless they actually make it to the Big Leagues and can stay there with quality Innings played. So, considering none of those prospects given up were anything higher than the #10 ranked prospect in the organization did the Reds really give up anything major. I would say no. Especially since none of those players given up have even 1 inning in MLB innings.
Instead the Reds got.
Probably the best defensive playing in the game in the infield.
A solid #4 starting pitcher which allows Martinez to move to the bullpen which he has done a nice job at both starting and relieving
A nice platoon to go with Benson and Frailey.
To say they got nothing is an oversight. Is it the big bat everyone wanted NO!
Is it the relief pitchers everyone wanted NO!
Will the team make the playoffs. TBD!
Does it raise the chance for the team to make the playoffs? Probably a little bit.
Not playing, I meant player. in my post.
Will be interesting to see what they do with the 26-man tomorrow. I assume Benson’s going down as soon as Friedl is back. Joe’s going down for sure, and I believe Fraley and Espinal (other logical candidates) are out of options so they’ll stay up (barring some IL activity).
Benson is the only guy currently on the roster who can back up CF. Joe is down for sure, but I think the other guy would have to be Jake Fraley, unless they think Fraley can back up CF, then I would agree with Benson going down. Friedl rarely sits, so it wouldn’t be a big issue I suppose, and if he got hurt, then Benson is back up.
Frailey has been hitting well lately I doubt they do anything with him.
Play fundamental baseball gets you 50% chance of winning. Talents get you 30%. The rest is luck (bad bounces, bad call, etc). Our fundamentals were bad last night, trade deadline probably had some to do with that. Let’s put all that behind and play a solid game today. Must win. Go Reds.
Another pitcher that we should do damage to. Let’s get some early runs and get better with RISP. Would be great to win the next 2. We really need to keep stacking series wins. Go Reds.
My enthusiasm went out the window after watching the trade deadline unfold. Reminds me of the 2021 season, even 2023 in terms of acquisitions.
Oh well, football is upon us!!
Fangraphs dropped the Reds playoff odds significantly after the trade deadline and last night loss… I guess Padres being extremely aggressive during the process acquiring a lot of quality players and the Reds got just only three modest ones
They quite literally sold the farm, something like 10 of their top 30 prospects, including 5 of their top 10.
Forgot this is an afternoon contest. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. It is August and it’s time to really put up or shut up.
On and off mute depending on meetings. I’ll check in when I can.
Let’s get back to 5 over and then head to Tennessee and get to 6 over.
Unfortunately, the Reds of recent years have a solid record of shutting up in August. Hopefully, they will turn over a new leaf this year.
9:40 am PST is way too early for Mr. Sadak.
The Reds still haven’t activated Miguel Andújar neither Zack Littell… I think Littell will be activated when he is going to pitch next week but Andujar is a position player who could be available now to improve the bench
The A’s were in Seattle, and they will be in Phoenix today. If he travelled yesterday, it would have been via a redeye flight–not ideal if trying to play a skill-based game at a high level. I’m guessing we’ll see him in Bristol.
As for Littell, I’m not sure how quickly the Reds have to activate him, but it is to their advantage to wait as long as possible until he is needed in the rotation so they can roster an extra bullpen arm.
Speaking of bad Reds losses, anyone remember the loss to the Braves, has to be around 2010.
Coco Codero is pitching. I remember the Reds having a big lead. If Laynce Nix catches the ball at the wall, the Reds win. Instead, the ball goes off Nix’s glove for a game winning homer. Amazing what sticks with someone after all these years.
Oh yeah. I had come out of a Dr. appt and heard Marty calling it as I drove home. Later, I saw the replay which appeared to show Nix didn’t even need to jump to make the catch.
Wow, I remember that game. Nix should have had that.
In 2010, I watched in person as the Braves scored 7 in the 9th to beat the Reds 10-9 on a Brooks Conrad home run that went off of Laynce Nix’s glove.
May of 2010. Found that on Twitter
The discouraging part to Doug’s ESPN link above is that so many lower ranked prospects were dealt for far better players than what the Reds got.
Yes the Mariners got two months of Naylor and Suarez for 4 teen level prospects.Either one but have helped the offense.
Singer has been very good this year.
He got lit up in 2 starts (Hou and Wash)
His ERA in the other 19 starts is about 3.50.
Takes the ball every day.
He should definitely be a part of the 2026 rotation.
And, knock on wood, healthy. Fully want and hope he’s a part of the 2026 Reds.
Agreed, hard to find a much better #5 starting pitcher.
Yup, great post.
Wow..had Marte dropped that ball, Braves might have scored.
Shouldn’t have been that close, sunshine or not, but glad he made the play.
Thrall and Cowboy talking about Marte, his athletic ability, and learning to play RF. He got the out which is what matters.
Definitely learning and should be fine.
The rest of this season will be a learning process, but I think he is above average to plus in RF in the long term. A full offseason and spring training in RF will do a world of difference. Maybe the 2nd fastest player on the team, plus arm strength, good athlete.
He’s a gifted athlete. Hope he’s in RF for many, many years to come.
According to TV…strong swirling wind today.
Ah, that makes sense. Hard to tell that from watching the game. Looks like a nice day in Cincy though.
I tell you, Braves are hitting the ball well. They have hitters.
Bases loaded, Not good
Not good. Not a good idea to give walks to load them up. Huge strikeout on White.
Braves have good hitters. Dangerous time.
Their hitting is absolutely solid for sure.
Thank goodness, no damage.
Elder has a 6.60 ERA. He has tossed 2 scoreless innings easily on 23 pitches against the Reds…
Was going to say the same. No excuse not to be getting hits against Elder.
Braves can hit 90/91 without any problem.Reds just can’t do it.Elder just pumping in 89-92 pitch to get ahead then the slider out of the zone to get the out.
The Braves pretty much lost their entire starting staff and replaced by really bad starters and thats why their record is what it is.Against a good hitting team they get hammered.Against us they have a fair fight and will compete. Our starters pitch every pitch knowing they have little room for error. We needed a hitter really bad and didn’t get one.Just a rental like Naylor who cost two teen level prospects Or Eugenio who coast the same would have helped so much.
Not pretty much. They did lose their entire starting pitching staff. And Ronald Acuna is out. Elder is terrible yet he is mowing the Reds down like they are grass on a golf course green
It’s crazy that they lost their entire starting 5 pitchers.
I too lament the fact that we didn’t add that bat we so need. Especially watching the Padres go all in.
To match what they did would have been like us trading Chase Burns, Alfredo Duno, Tyson Lewis, Cam Collier, Edwin Arroyo, Sammy Stafura, Adam Serwinowski, Adolfo Sanchez, Edgar Colon, Jose Acuna, and then another 8-10 guys outside of our top 30.
Oh I get that. Definitely wasn’t looking to move so many prospects but I think more of a difference making hitter could have been had without sacrificing top prospects.
To get a real difference making hitter would have cost us at least two of our top 10 prospects. To beat Seattle’s offer for Suarez I think would have taken something like Cam Collier, Leo Balcazar, and Jose Franco.
I think Singer is battling thus far and he won’t be able to keep the Braves out of the board for the next innings so it’s imperative the Reds can figure Elder out quickly….
Our offense hasn’t even competed since the 8th inning last night.Hayes fits right in swinging on 2-0 good grief man.Elder who is just awful breezes through the lineup on 33 pitches,The AAA boys down in Louisville would have him on the ropes or knocked out by now.
14 runs for the Bats last night. Rodriguez, Stewart and CES all with 2 hits each. I agree with you too.
Elder is having 0 issues with our hitters outside of the Lux lead off single.
Could really use Singer manning up and getting through 6 today.
Job well done Singer. Six scoreless with 10 Ks.
Elder is just pumping in fastballs nothing fancy not high velocity at all.He is not fooling anybody or trying to.He is just saying hit it if you can.
Has some movement and guessing deceptive. Dunno though
Changing speeds ruins hitters more than velo.
1000%agree
McClain stinks in the 2 hole.
Reds getting abused by this bum on the mound …
Lux leads off the fourth with a single just like he did the first and never moves just like the first.Seven innings in a row where this team isn’t even competing.Elder only has two strikeouts.MM and Benson both chasing sliders.
Yep, no steal attempt, no bunt attempt to move him over. Just standing and waiting.
McLain low and away slider. Can’t hit it, can’t lay off of it. All year. It’s a ball
Dude swings at it every single time —- sucker for it
CES rightfully so gets called out for the chase but McLain and Benson are of little help offensively most days either.
No way McLain should be the 2 hitter.
Yes he does. Everytime. Plate discipline. Not
Singer doing his job.
One thing about it, Reds are being aggressive.
Elder didn’t make it past the 3rd inning his last start.Gave up 6 runs on 8 hits in 2 2/3
Wow, Elder with 50 pitches through 5 innings. 2 Lux singles. That’s it.
Forty nine pitches through five innings for Elder! Very pitch efficient.
This is PATHETIC – Singer doing his Job . I think everybody else except Lux took the day off …
Awesome
Moves at the deadline Krall … just awesome
Krall: I want to build a versatile team. A team that can go out there and lose 12-11 or 1-0. We’re after consistency! We can give up a 2 out double that scores the winner from 1st base like LA or have bases loaded nobody out and get nothing. We consistently choke on both sides
This gave me a good laugh.
Reds doing nothing offensively against a pitcher who has been crushed…pathetic…
Bottom of the 5th and only 2 hits against a very poor pitcher? Yep, Krall did an amazing job at deadline. A true child of the self-esteem movement. Give them a trophy regardless of what they actually achieve.
Reds are 1 for 6 on hard hit balls today.
Six pitch inning are you kidding me.Singer says thanks guys I needed the rest but maybe next time.
Pathetic effort by everyone except Singer and Lux.
Awesome moves at the deadline Krall … just awesome
Trading for a light-hitting 3B is not common, Hayes may have the best glove, but the issue here is Reds are also receiving subpar performance from other positions (2B, 1B), so let’s see how it goes.
Talking to a pirate fan and he said Hayes is great glove at 3rd. Francona seems to value defense which is a nice change. Time will tell though as far as Hayes hitting.
Will be interesting to see what happens this off season if anything as far as roster construction. Rodriguez and Stewart are knocking on the door. Hinds, CES, and Benson could be on way out.
Won’t keep beating the trade deadline into the ground. So let’s see if they make playoffs this year.
Sorry if this is a long ramble. LOL
Krall sent a message to this team by doing next to nothing at the deadline and it is absolutely showing that they got the message.
The fans need to show they got the message as well….
Thank goodness Singer is dealing. 10K’s.
Poor Singer needs some run support from this lifeless offense.
I will say Singer has grown on me and atleast goes out there and competes. They might keep him around for insurance although Lowder has better stuff. He might get a better offer somewhere else as he’s a #3-4 on alot of staffs.
Probably a 3-4 on our since HG is never healthy
Singer has had a solid season minus I think 2 starts. He always seems healthy and reliable which counts for a lot. He’s got my respect.
Unless they release him, he’s in arbitration for next season, a FA in 2027.
100% bring Singer back next year, this may be the 2nd year in a row he makes 32 starts. I’d at least explore something like a 4 year deal buying out his last arb year next year and 3 more years. He turns 29 on Monday and we would have him the rest of his prime without having to go into his decline years past 33 with a 4 year deal.
Singer could hold on Braves scoreless with 10 Ks through 6 IP…outstanding job
A run thanks to a Benson steal. Finally McLain makes solid contact today.
He had 3 hits yesterday I think. He has shown signs just not consistent enough..
He did have a 3 yesterday. Just need more consistency and realistically dropped down in the lineup.
Agree Jason.
McLain had a 97.9 MPH lineout to the 2B in the first inning. That RBI single was his second hard hit ball today.
Surprised that line out was hit that hard, didn’t look nearly that hard in live action. Looked very routine. Good to know.
McLain was at .143 with 2 outs risp. Has to start delivering
1000% agree
Thank you Reds Organization!!! That is why you needed to trade for a solid power hitter to hit behind Elly. They will walk him!!! Man!!!!
Jeez I forgot we’re down 4-1 in the season series to Atlanta. 1-5 absolutely cannot happen. 2-5 can’t happen if you’re indulging the playoff fantasy
Good time for Singer to step up. Offense?
Why are some folks so risk averse about trading a top Reds prospect(s)? In the right deal I would trade any of them.
Mariners got Geno for #9 prospect Tyler Locklear and lesser pieces. The Reds could have matched that deal without moving top prospects. I do not believe that ownership wanted to pay his remaining salary for this season.
Their system is higher ranked than ours. I think we would have had to trade Cam Collier, Leo Balcazar, and Jose Franco for Suarez. Something along those lines.
Huh? Is it better to see what Reds prospect would have been equivalent to Locklear to lead the deal, given Locklear’s position in a Top 100 list?
Locklear, Cranston and Burgos were collectively valued at 5.5 on BTV with Locklear at 2.1 the other two were each below 2.0; Suarez at 9.3.
Collier is at 13.7, Balcazar 2.2, Franco 0.5.
Imagine if they had gone for O’Hearn/Laureno instead of Hayes/Andujar. I doubt the cost would have been much worse, maybe another top 10 prospect, but not Burns, Stewart, etc. Krall didn’t try. He doesn’t have to. We keep following the Reds, buying tickets, etc. And Castellini gives him promotions/money while they all laugh about playing the fanbase for the suckers that we are.
O’Hearn has been very pedestian against LHP this year, we didn’t need another platoon lefty.
Laureno would have been a nice add though.
With about 1/3 of the season remaining Suarez is owed approximately $1.6mm. Hayes about $700,000+.
This is so typical of the reds this year…braves starting pitcher has had a terrible year…Era of 6 1/2 …reds make him look like Cy Young …so ridiculous
Who says no: Singer or the Reds?
4 Years
$60 million
Team option for 2030 for $20 million with a $4 million buy out
Think that’s a fair deal both ways.
That’s 1 year too long.
They still have him for 1 year at lesser cost.
Make the decision next year.
The Reds should. If their prospect pitchers are as good as they think, he redundant and expensive comparatively.
Singer stays healthy. One of the rarest attributes in pitchers in today’s MLB.
WTG. Benson! There’s the O!
Back off mute in time to see Benson just “wrist flick” that one over the LF wall 😮
Benson bomb off a lefty, that was nice to see!
Absolutely. Beautiful swing
Benson has done nothing to play himself into a demotion to AAA.
Benson, Fraley, or Espinal. One of them has to go.
Would have to say Espy.
Unless they think Fraley can cover CF in a pinch. Friedl rarely sits anyway, and if he gets hurt just need to cover the rest of a game until you call Benson back up.
Excited for Friedl to come back with that dad strength! In all seriousness getting to miss a few games was probably good for him to rest up a bit.
He hustles. All the time. Great for him to recharge for some days and great for him to grow his family. Seems like a good dude.
Yep. Krall can’t keep his roster construction together much longer. Somebody is NOT going to be happy at all and will have an argument as to why they shouldn’t be the one.
I’m not complaining that we may end up with a quality player at AAA ready for recall when the next injury hits.
Benson won this game. Francona didn’t robotically bring in a pinch hitter to face a LhP paid off.
Not much choice with no other CF.
Hays has 70 MLB appearances in CF, but only 19 since the pandemic and zero since 2023.
Have to remember they’ve been working out Marte in CF recently. Who knows what they’re thinking?
Those leg injuries have probably seen that ship sail this year. Then again, we are the club that insisted Jesse Winker could play CF.
Melvin, was that a workout or just Marte’s habit of shagging fly balls?
Either way, Francona won’t even play Fraley, Hays, Hinds or Espinal out there, so, Marte?
Whatever. The point was Francona didn’t PH for Benson because, in TitoWorld, he didn’t have another CF. Not some grand master stroke.
I don’t know what’s going to happen but they did show a video clip of them working him out in CF. It didn’t look like he was just shagging fly balls on his own. It wouldn’t seem like Tito would play him out there but it didn’t seem like he would play him in RF either so who knows?
Melvin, i for one, have no idea, as usual!
I love that Benson is rising to the occasion and making it nigh onto impossible to ship him out.
As the only other CF on the 26 man, he may have an advantage. Though he would be just a phone call away.
Fraley has 36 MLB appearances in CF, 9 with the Reds, including 2 in 2024.
Between Hays and Fraley, they could get through a game (or 3) without a “true” backup..
Of course, you could put Trevino out there in an emergency, but I’m addressing (and agreeing with) your point of Benson increasing his chances of sticking around — he’s the only one Francona has played out there.
Yep DaveCT. I can’t imagine Benson being the one to go even without the CF factor.
I tell you, all I heard is Hayes has weak swings, but what I am seeing is he is taking some good cuts.
He’s made some solid, deep contact.
Maybe Valaika and Co. actually noticed a mechanical problem that had a simple fix?
Heck just getting out of PGH would help a player.
Same.
On defense, his footwork and agility are what stand out at first glance. That dribbler he came in on earlier took a funky, last second bounce, and he got to it with footwork, not stabbing for it with his glove
I read where his bat speed is slightly above average. Hit that ball oppo fairly well….who knows?
Big bomb there. Jake & Will B are both easy to root for although Idk how many years you go forward w/both? Andujar kills lefties. He was killing it in Indy (Bucs AAA) in 2023 and I was hoping the Reds could steal him. I guess cheap solution in the OF is to platoon with one of them and the other is a bench piece.
DFA Espinal? Hayes and McLain won’t be removed for defense. In case of emergency we can just call up the younger cheaper Espinal in Francisco Urbaez from Louisville.
I’m thinking in terms of next year. Surely we’ve seen the last of Espinal?
Or atleast the 300 at-bats version
That Benson, Fraley, Lux, Joe, and Espinal are all still around says to me that the Reds seem to be able to think and act one baby step at a time.
As soon as Hayes was onboard or even before, one of those 3 lefties needed to be gone ahead of the deadline for whatever lottery pick he would bring.
My guess is nobody would take Fraley or Lux without cash or extra prospect value added; and, the Reds balked. It was probably the same with Espinal.
Whether Joe is DFA or optioned, that was an easy call because he is option eligible.
Teams can still make trades, it’s just the player isn’t eligible for the post season. At least, i think that’s still in effect.
So, I can see a DFA of Fraley or Espinal and a team taking a chance on them.
Nice recovery there Santillan. Is there a game he doesn’t pitch?
He’s a gamer.
Nice recovery, Tony.
Barlow, Santillan, Pagan.
Escaped. One more inning, c’mon redssss
Bristol Tenn? I’m thinking a weird & tiny turf stadium like Yanks/Cubs played last year in England or wherever. 13-11 lol. Just a random guess though
The field is going to be 330′ down the lines, 384′ to left-center, 375′ to right-center, and 400′ to straightaway center. Sounds pretty standard. Of course, the ball may fly given the altitude.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/motorsports/here-are-the-bristol-motor-speedway-baseball-field-dimensions-for-reds-braves-2025-game/ar-AA1oxn7P
Benson taking good angles catching gap line drives in center. He runs very well out there. Plays very hard
He is taking good angles. Such long strides too he can cover so much ground. Fast too.
Last night he looked like a lumbering TE going back on the ball.
Lmao..Elly completely fooled by that pitch and let his bat fly
Ha, Elly’s bat in the netting.
Gotta be tuff up the middle. Short, 2nd and center. The other positions are bats. If they can do both, you got some players
Get Pagán out the game !!!!!
Alrighty then….some unnecessary dram
Way unnecessary…
And here we go!
The leadoff walk spells trouble again.
Poor Dennis.
At work! Didn’t watch or follow! Screaming at work is kinda frowned upon which is what I would have done after Pagan walked the leadoff batter in a 3-0 game in the bottom of the 9th inning! Just glad we won!
Glad they didn’t have to call the paramedics for ya. 🙂
Raise your hand if you have a bad feeling about this game now.
Omg…I can’t breathe
Yep! I see that hand and raise you mine!
Haven’t verified, but Albies seems to kill us
Hate to say it but we are just a blast away from trailing
And a hit away from tying it!
Pagan – 2 mph off his fastball. Seems spent.
Once again thank you Reds Organization for not adding a bullpen arms or two. To say we added “Martinez ” is laughable.
Barlow, Santillan, and Pagan are gonna be cooked by September.
Where are the Nasty Boys when we need them?
That was close. Still ain’t over.
NOW it is. 🙂
Playing with fire with Pagán ..
Chewing fingernails…….
We don’t make it easy! But it is a win.
Wow, play with fire but get the W!
Great start by Singer.
Singer and Benson split game ball. Not easy to hold Braves for 6 scoreless frames.
Absolutely. Benson with some nice D, a timely steal and that bomb. He had himself a day as well.
Braves can hit, outstanding job by Singer. 10k’s too.
Whew.
Escaped. Smh. Nothing easy
The Reds get another W. It was a good game for the home team.
Are we the home team? Oh yeah! 🙂
Wow Pagan thought he got it. I thought he got it. A save is a save is a save. I’d resign Pagan….he’s a fighter
He’s been pretty much lights out all season.
Looked kinda gassed today though. Which is understandable.
I thought he got it too.
Santillan and Pagan should get a bonus don’t you think?
The highlight of the Reds season, if we’re lucky, is that they don’t get swept in a series all year. Playoffs seem out of reach, barring a miracle. Need SD to really screw up despite all the acquisitions.
The Hayes trade really took the wind out of my sails. I don’t know why Krall seems so intent on putting automatic outs in the line up. It would have been OK I guess, if Hayes was a 2 month rental, but the thought of watching him (not) hit the next five years is just depressing to me.
How many shutouts has the bullpen lost.
Not saying it’s that important but i have to think can matter to the pitchers who carry a shutout forward hand it off. I know it matters to me. I like shutouts.
Doug chose the right photo for the headliner.
Andujar for Joe is a plus, but we’re not catching SD. I’d be shocked if Cards gave us any help….they were sellers. Same thing w/SF and they have a bunch w/SD coming up. They traded their closer. LA & SF are our best chance though. Unless the Mets completely melt down? Don’t see that either
Can’t use Pagán every day Tito. With a 3-0 lead and the bottom of the order due up why not use Mey.
My thoughts exactly. Time to start working Mey into the late-inning mix.
SD is also 34-18 at home and is +5 with their upcoming home/road schedule. The Reds are now -5 with their upcoming home/road games. Trying to gain on a loaded team w/a cupcake Sept schedule while you’re on the road and they’re at home.
Riiiiiiight
Benson with the quote of the day: “It ain’t a Reds game if it ain’t interesting.”
Now that’s the truth.
A squeaker … but we head to Bristol with a W and need to get to 6 over tomorrow.
Great win! Burns looking to most likely make his last start tomorrow before moving to the bullpen to monitor his pitch count. Greene scheduled to pitch on Sunday for Louisville and with no setbacks and regular rest, should make his next start for the Reds on 8/8. With off day on Sunday for the Reds, Burns should move to the bullpen and Greene activated for the start that day. Tomorrow should have a couple of transactions with Friedl and most likely Andujar activated. After good game today, unfortunately it looks like Benson will go down to Louisville as he has options along with Joe, if he’s not DFAd. Littell will be activated on 8/5 for his first start and my guess is Richardson down to Louisville. Moll down to Louisville when Burns moves to the bullpen on 8/8. Lowder will start bullpen sessions on 8/17 and hopefully 2 weeks will be enough for him to be activated and be the September callup as an extra arm in the bullpen. May need a little more time for rehab assignment. Pagan, Santillan, Mey and Burns at the backend covering the 8th and 9th with Barlow and Suter in the 7th should be solid the rest of the season. Martinez the long reliever with Ashcraft and Lowder covering other innings from September. If Lowder can get 20-30 innings this year in the bullpen, it would be a good way to enter the offseason.
