Nick Lodolo

2025 has been the best season of Nick Lodolo’s career. And he may be coming off of his best start of his career, too, throwing a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts against Washington last week.

The splits are weird for Lodolo on the season as left-handed hitters have found plenty of success against him. But most of that success came in the first two months as lefties hit .362/.418/.489 against him through May. Since the start of June lefties have hit .226/.293/.340 against him. Right-handed hitters, though, haven’t hit him much all year.

Tyler Glasnow

This season has seen Tyler Glasnow miss two-and-a-half months, hitting the injured list in late April and not returning until just before the All-Star break. When he’s been on the mound he’s been quite good and in his last outing he struck out 12 batters and allowed one run in seven innings against Minnesota.

The splits for Glasnow are still in the small sample size range this year. But within those eight starts he’s been showing big splits as he’s been hilariously dominant against right-handed hitters who aren’t even hitting .100 against him. Left-handed hitters aren’t exactly hitting well against him but they are walking often and making a lot more contact against him.

Rece Hinds up, TJ Friedl to paternity list

While it’s unlikely to be for a long period of time, Rece Hinds is on his way to join the Reds and TJ Friedl is hopefully already in Nevada where his wife is giving birth.

Hunter Greene on rehab in Triple-A

The Reds have Hunter Greene in Omaha tonight where he’ll make a rehab start with the Louisville Bats. The game doesn’t begin until 8:05pm, so keep that in mind if you are looking for updates or trying to follow along.

Francona did a good job separating Lux, Benson, and Fraley. Make it as difficult as possible to use those lefty relievers.

  2. JA

Oh.. what a relief to see fangraphs odds are favouring birds over Reds again…

    • Doug Gray

The best way to change that and keep it from happening is to have a better team and win more games.

      • RedsGettingBetter

        Especially against Dodgers nowadays

      • Dennis Westrick

Thank you, Captain Obvious! That’s humor, Doug! You are absolutely correct! Winning takes care of everything! I don’t put much thought into the sports pundits and sites who predict which team will make the playoffs! Especially with over a third (55 games) of the 2025 season remaining! Just hoping Krall et al can pull a rabbit out of the hat before the trade deadline!

      • Leonard Smalls

“55 games of the 2025 season remain”

Someone in baseball once said: “It’s getting late early.”

        😉

  3. Jeremiah

Well this isn’t the most intimidating Reds lineup of all time, but go Reds! Congrats to Friedl on the new baby, I wonder if it’s his first child?

    • Mark Moore

I was thinking I heard it is his 2nd.

  4. Mark Moore

Get back to 6 over tonight. Nick has been nails of late and should be primed and ready. Still have to back him with runs as always.

Let’s Derail these Trolley Dodgers and chalk up a W!!

    • Leonard Smalls

      The Trolly Dodgers!

“…According to the club, the name originated in 1896 as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. Heavy construction of electric trolley tracks in front of Eastern Park caused fans to dodge the trolleys to reach the park. Those fans became known as Trolley Dodgers and the team took on the name, which was shortened to Dodgers.”

More Dodger trivia from my memory banks…

“…The Los Angeles Dodgers have red numbers on the front of their home uniforms as a unique design element. This tradition began in 1952, making them the first MLB team to feature numbers on the front of the jersey… for visibility on early color television broadcasts.”

      Soooo…
The Los Angeles Dodgers: Driven by Optimization of Media Markets Since 1952

      😉

      • greenmtred

Leonard: they didn’t leave Brooklyn until 1957.

      • Leonard Smalls

Sure… Now here we are well into the 21st Century and I guess “Dodgers” = “Los Angeles Dodgers” and vice versa

      • greenmtred

1957 was when I started hating them.

      • Jim Walker

When I was a kid in the mid 1950’s, the Dodgers’ nickname was “The Bums”.

According to the AI on my PC, the Bum mascot’s name was Weary Willie”. His hobo motif was personified by Emmett Kelley, a circus clown of the era.

      • greenmtred

Indeed. Dem Bums. I forgot about the mascot.

  5. VaRedsFan

Gavin Lux revenge game activated for tonight.

  6. Dennis Westrick

A quick forensic synopsis of the box score from last night’s game before the Reds take the field against the Hollywood Dodgers for Game 2 of this key 3-game series!

Last night there were too many SOs (12) with Marte’s strikeout in the bottom of the 9th a key out with 2 runners on and one out!

Too many walks by Reds RPs which has plagued them in several losses this season!

And finally, if there was ever a time to consider taking a pitch with a 2-0 count it was during McLain’s last at bat! I am a big fan of situational awareness and today’s young players seem to ignore that concept! McLain’s SO was magnified by the fact that the bases were loaded and Elly was on deck! Plus, TJ had just walked on 4 straight pitches before McLain came to bat! In any event, what’s done is done!

Hoping for a great outing by Lodolo tonight as this game represents a chance for the Reds to bounce back and even the series at one game apiece!

Let’s get on the board early and let Lodolo do his thing! Better fielding would be appreciated as well!

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, I’m not sure what a bullpen’s walk rate “should” be, but the Reds relievers have now walked more than the starters.

167 walks in 575 IP from starters
169 walks in 370 IP from the bullpen

    • VaRedsFan

MMC grounded out on the 2-0 pitch.
      Not struck out.

  7. Leonard Smalls

Dodgers are 7-13 in their last 20 and 15-15 in their last 30.

They are only 27-24 on the road.

They won yesterday but were 0-3 in GABP last year.

They are 15-15 in games started by an opposing LHP starter.

They don’t really hit LHP any better than they do RHP but..
.805 team OPS vs finesse pitchers
.735 team OPS vs power pitchers
.760 team OPS vs average power/finesse

Freddie Freeman in his last 35 games:
    .220 BA / .295 OBP / .285 SLG
    1 HR, 12 walks, 42 strikeouts
2 hits, 1 walk, 6 K in his last four games
.235 BA vs LHP this year

  8. RedsFanForLife

Bold prediction. Reds trade prospects to Orioles for Morton and Laureano. Greene will return to the starting rotation to open the series against the Cubs on 8/4 and starting rotation of Greene, Lodolo, Abbott, Singer and Morton to finish the season. Martinez and Burns move to the bullpen to solidify the pen for the rest of the year. Reds can monitor pitch limit for Burns and Martinez can slot in as the LR. Moll and Richardson to Louisville. Laureano starts in RF and hits 5th in the lineup the rest of the year. Friedl, McLain, EDLC, Hays, Laureano, Steer, Lux(Fraley)DH, Stephenson(Trevino), Marte main starting lineup. Trevino, Espinal, Fraley and Benson bench with Joe to Louisville or DFA. Espinal at 3B and Marte DH vs lefties.

    • Dennis Westrick

Morton is a little “long-in-the-tooth”! Don’t know how much help he will be other than an “innings eater”! Another outfielder would be helpful as well!

  9. CincyDo

I have not been this anxious before a game. Let’s go Reds.

    • greenmtred

I’m not taking my blood pressure.

      • Mark Moore

Same. The machine will sit quietly on the shelf beside me 😀

  10. Mark Moore

Let’s hope that AB shows the umpire has an accurate zone. It’s early, so …

    Nick just froze Mookie.

  11. Mark Moore

And Nick Lodolo just STRIDES off the mound in a first inning triumph.

    Some nasty stuff!!

  12. Richard D Fitch

Lodolo picking up where he left off.

    • Mark Moore

Kind of looks that way. Thought me might lose Smith but he maintained composure and nailed him!!

  13. CincyDo

Bring it Lodolo. Show them LA boys what you got.

  14. Leonard Smalls

    14 pitches from Lodolo…

2 MVPs and a 3x All Star down on 3 strikeouts!

  15. Mark Moore

    Freeman … figures.

I view him as one of the good guys. Wish he was still a Bravo, but that wasn’t his choice.

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, I think he’s good guy.
He just went looking for more winning, more sunshine, and a 25% pay raise over six guaranteed years.
      We’d all do the same.

    • VaRedsFan

I feel that way with both Freeman, Kershaw, and Betts.

  16. RedsGettingBetter

Incredible , I couldn’t expect an Edman homer at this point

    • Mark Moore

It just floated but stayed fair.

    • Leonard Smalls

      I looked at Lodolo
s numbers vs the Dodgers and not many guys on LAD had ever faced him.
      Edman was 2 for 5. …Now 3 for 6

  17. RedAlert

Thanks Sadak – you talked that right into
    existence – CLUELESS !!
Much as you’ve been around the game figure you of all people would know better …

    • greenmtred

He talks a lot, but he probably doesn’t have supernatural powers.

      • RedAlert

lol baseball superstitions – apparently he has none

2nd inning and I’m gonna have to mute the dude already …

  18. greenmtred

And once again we have to wonder if this is an insurmountable lead.

    • Leonard Smalls

I don’t love this lineup but the Reds should score at least 3.
Dodgers bullpen is not at all a strength of their team.
Gotta get Glasnow out of his groove, though.

  19. Mark Moore

Kind of amazing what having a more consistent and accurate zone does for the comment attitude here on RLN (mine especially).

    • greenmtred

Yeah, this guy seems good. If anything, the calls seem to go the Reds’ way.

  20. Leonard Smalls

    Glasnow so far (I think):
    full count to MM
    full count to EDLC
    2-2 count to Hays
    full count Fraley
    full count to Steer

  21. Mark Moore

Marte put some wood on it … but splintered his stick in the process.

    Heavy sight … 🙁

  22. dimondfvr

Another GIDP. Another rally killer. Where have we heard that before?

  23. RedAlert

And there it is – rally killer DP – another wasted early opportunity …

  24. dimondfvr

Shhh. Don’t tell Dennis there is another leadoff wa;k.

  25. Mark Moore

Something about a guy like Ohtani going down looking just makes me smile 😀

    • greenmtred

Erases the walk. Dennis doesn’t need to brood just yet.

  26. Mark Moore

    OK, that works just fine.

Hits and runs now, please … just a couple … pretty please … 😐

  27. greenmtred

Everything–almost everything–except the Reds’ offense is going fine.

  28. Dennis Westrick

It may be just me, but the Reds pitchers seem to give up a lot of 2-out HRs! Need to start putting the ball in play between the white lines!

Nice bounce back inning for Nick! WAKE UP REDS HITTERS!

  29. RedsGettingBetter

Lodolo giving 7 Ks through 3 IP is weird this season

  30. Mark Moore

If you’re gonna whiff, do it that way. Nice job, Will.

    • Mark Moore

And it doesn’t matter one stinking bit!!

    • RedAlert

Another DP what’s that about a 1000 this year – and a of course a base hit follows

      NEVER EVER DO
REDS RUN … it’s insane , especially with the dudes that are capable

  31. RedsGettingBetter

Come on , can’t continue hitting for double play every inning

  32. dimondfvr

Another GIDP. Another rally killer. Where have we heard that before? Oh…I just said that the last inning!

  33. Indy Red Man

Had enough double plays for 2 lifetimes. Watching something else. Go Reds

  34. greenmtred

Okay. Leadoff hitter on. The circumstances seem typical and so does the double play that followed.

  35. Mark Moore

That’s a double Stink. Fish. Pot.

  36. RedsGettingBetter

The things are not going on the Reds way

  37. RedAlert

Reds really got to get a young catcher that’s not far from MLB …. It’s a big big problem right now … neither dude they got on MLB roster is long term answer …. By a long shot

  38. Gpod

I have had it with Trevino…he is just an automatic out ….kills innings

    • Leonard Smalls

Trevino’s bat has been bad for a month now but for most of the season he was hitting WELL above his career numbers.

  39. Andrew Brewer

Lodolo is stellar, and the Reds are getting baserunners. Glasnow doesn’t look that good, but the Dodgers are up 2-0 on that oppo homerun. Two Dbl plays have obviously hurt us. As long as Lodolo keeps it up we should overtake them.

  40. Mark A Verticchio

Same old story, the total lack of power is killing this team.

  41. Dennis Westrick

The Reds offense picked the wrong series to go on vacation!

  42. CincyDo

Lodolo got away with a pitch there… easily could have been 4-0

  43. Andrew Brewer

Tough play there at first, Elly fired it, but in the dirt. Lodolo will have to pitch his way out now.

    • Andrew Brewer

and He did… 8 strikeouts now for the Big Lefty !

  44. RedAlert

    Dude pitching his tail
Off and getting no help … just like Burns last night

Dudes on this team need to step the heck up

  45. Mark A Verticchio

The team just has way to many easy outs throughout the line up.

  46. Dennis Westrick

I wonder if the Reds starting pitchers are still on speaking terms with the players masquerading as “hitters”? Reds starters have generally done their job of pitching 5 or 6 low scoring innings and waiting for someone, anyone to come up with a clutch hit!

Nick at 72 pitches will probably be done after 5 innings! Sad state of affairs!

  47. dimondfvr

Reds aren’t doing anything so Sadak has to talk about Glasnow’s doppledanger in Hollywood!!

    • JB

Lol I just turned it over to the dodgers network. Couldn’t take it anymore

  48. Mark Moore

Way back on the Moon Deck. And with somebody on base so Glasnow can’t work out of a wind-up.

    • greenmtred

Larkin said earlier that Glasnow prefers pitching out of the stretch. Go figure. Nothing will help him now with the Reds’ sluggers waking from their extended slumber.

  49. JB

Dodgers announcers were saying Fraley has the labrum issue and doesn’t have much power now. Next pitch. Their announcers are like Sadak.

  50. greenmtred

I wish I’d written it, because nobody will believe me now, but I thought Fraley was going to hit that bomb. Sadak isn’t the only one with supernatural powers.

    • Mark Moore

      I believe you.

+50,000 for using your powers for good.

      • Leonard Smalls

        I believe him, too.

How about using the powers for good weather and… some “good” lottery numbers, maybe?

    • VaRedsFan

Any lottery numbers that you have in mind?
Just the 1st 4….I’ll do the rest.

  51. Leonard Smalls

Freeman’s single a cheapie grounder that snuck through, if I recall?

And Brantley and Thrall said that Edman’s home run off of Lodolo was a weird connection that could have been a pop up or foul but it just took off.

So – glass half full – Lodolo could be pitching a hypothetical shutout with 8 K through 4 IP against the world champs.

    • Mark Moore

” Weird” is right. Floated out there, caught an updraft, and managed to stay fair.

      • Leonard Smalls

They said that Lodolo shook his head and couldn’t believe it went out.

  52. JB

Whats the chances Glassnow doesn’t make it through the season without going on IL. Buxton is back on it I see.

  53. dimondfvr

Okay Noelvi. A LOT better than that double play! LOL

  54. RedsMonk65

Now Marte. Reds’ hitters finally stepping up….

  55. Optimist

Some days he taketh away, and some days he giveth. (Don’t trade him)

  56. Mark Moore

That works, Marte. That works just fine.

  57. JB

I love Marte. I know people aren’t high on him but I think the kid is going to be a good one.

    • Mark Moore

I’m coming around to the idea of him in RF.

    • Mark A Verticchio

100% agree, the only question is where he will play = 3rd, 1st our right field.

  58. CincyDo

My boy Marte. He was terrible yesterday but I have confidence in him. He will be a big time player.

  59. Andrew Brewer

Two homers in the 4th, and the Reds are on top 3-2, Lodolo dealing…

  60. CincyDo

This game will have a few more twists and turns, so let’s just..and I quote Mark, hold on to our butts

  61. Mark Moore

Not getting to the first one happens. The “flagging” at it won’t cut it.

    And it’s a “hit”???

    • Ozzie

That’s an error for me if I’m scoring my high school team. 100% error.

    • Andrew Brewer

I noticed hee has been doing that too… poor fundamentals

  62. JB

Lodolo making Ohtani look human tonight . And silly

  63. Andrew Brewer

Elly doing those attempted picks from the side instead of getting in front of the ball …

  64. greenmtred

Perilous situation now. But Nick has, for now, the great Ohtani’s number. What a game he’s pitching!

    • Andrew Brewer

three curves and 3 K’s now for Ohtani …

  65. Beaufort Red

The pictures must hold their breath every time the ball is hit the EDLC.

  66. Leonard Smalls

Reds team BA this season is .246
MLB average team BA is .245

Reds July team BA is down below that a bit but not much.
Ther OBP has held steady all season at .320ish. (MLB average team OBP is .315)
It’s been .320 in July so they’re getting their share of walks.

None of these numbers a great but… they’re not awful and they’ve been climbing upward since Hays and Marte got back on the lineups.

  67. Beaufort Red

We’re doing our best to give this game away

  68. RedsGettingBetter

Come on Lodolo , what did you do?

  69. Dennis Westrick

Way to battle Nick! One more inning?

    • Andrew Brewer

He’s firing on all cylinders, can’t tell how many he’s good for.

  70. Mark A Verticchio

Just a poor pick off idea, get the batter.

    • Mark Moore

He may have been trying to make up for the flubbed GIDP. Threw it right into the runner.

  71. Mark Moore

You got yourself into that mess, you get yourself out of it.

OK … I’ll just whiff Smith if that works.

    • greenmtred

And it did. Lodolo has turned into a really gutsy pitcher.

  72. Andrew Brewer

Lodolo then proceeds to strikeout Smith to end it … Well done !

  73. Leonard Smalls

Awwwwwesome full count strike out for Lodolo’s 11th!
    Protected the one-run lead.

    Eleven!!!

  74. JB

So Rojas is less than half way to 3rd and Benson feels he couldn’t throw him out? Man they need arms out there.

  75. dimondfvr

Through two innings at Louisville Greene thus far has struck out five, given up three hits, including two home runs.

    • Mark Moore

Probably throwing it a bit flat. It’s all good as long as he feels OK tomorrow.

    • JB

He is probably just throwing heaters to see if he can get through the amount of innings and pitches they have designated for him.

  76. Mark Moore

Does Rojas doing that count as stepping off or a catcher’s visit or something like that?

Whatever he said didn’t work. First Wife said that before Cowboy did …;)

  77. RedsGettingBetter

Trevino reminded how to hit doubles

  78. Andrew Brewer

Trevino sends the first pitch into the gap … We’re going after them !

  79. CincyDo

Got my money worth so far. I stated that I wanted to fast forward to today to see Lodolo pitch to Shohei and I got what I wanted.

    • Mark Moore

      It’s been a fun 3 AB’s so far.

  80. Mark Moore

And a 4-pitch pass. Bullpen now scrambling.

  81. Richard D Fitch

    Dodger mound visit:

    “So, Jeff Ruby’s tonight?”
    “What? Skyline???”

  82. CincyDo

Impact play, Elly. I’ve been harping on this. Can you break the game open right here?

  83. Ozzie

I love MM but, shew, what a gift to walk him there. He’s been in a bit of a funk lately.

    • JB

He is 19-52 at a .365 clip before ton ight. I’ll take that as a funk every time

      • Ozzie

        Good check.
I guess I still had lat nights game ending AB in my mind.

  84. RedAlert

HAVE TO CASH THIS IN WITH AT LEAST 2 RUNS ! Lets go !!!

  85. Allthehype

Some REALLY disciplined PAs vs a guy that usually doesn’t have trouble with BBs

  86. Magi210

Reds have to take advantage here. Let’s put 4 or 5 on the board.

  87. RedsGettingBetter

LAD is going to bring in the bullpen early and tomorrow Ohtani is scheduled to throw 4 innings I think I don’t know if they’ll use a piggyback

  88. Andrew Brewer

Bases loaded and a pitching change here in the 5th… Elly at the plate.

  89. Leonard Smalls

To their bullpen to face Elly…

Up by a run on the Dodgers..
Trying to go 6 over .500..
This at-bat kinda feels like a huge moment of the season, eh?

  90. Mark Moore

Saved a run (or more) but we scored. Now put Elly in motion.

  91. Mark Moore

    Squibber for the IF hit.

Just lift one or find some green, Espy. Nothing fancy.

  92. RedsGettingBetter

The lack of power of Espinal is impressive

  93. JB

Me personally I use Hinds. At some point you have to have faith in the guy.

    • Mark Moore

Good point. Natural replacement in RF. Chance he runs into one or at least gets a deep SF.

  94. RedAlert

Base hit can bust it open right now ….

  95. Mark A Verticchio

He should have let Fraley bat, if for no reason than to keep his bat in the game for later.

  96. Gregmlb

Tito doing some David Bell overthinking there

  97. Andrew Brewer

Espinal to hit for Fraley with the lefty on the mound. The bases are loaded with one out … not quite deep enough, 2 down.

  98. Chris

Based loaded. 1 out. You bat Hinds there.

    • Leonard Smalls

Elly didn’t need to swing at that pitch he put in play but..
that could have very easily gotten through to left field and maybe have scored another run?

But yeah, not a lot of solid base hits and not a lot of power displayed.
That’s just not who/what this team is.

  99. dimondfvr

Basess loaded and no one out and we manage to get one run! Pitiful!

  100. RedsGettingBetter

Espinal and Steer awful… just 1 run after bases loaded with no outs and 1 out later

  101. RedAlert

Let them off the hook again … Spencer pits himself in a hole constantly – dude takes way too many strikes

Reds continue to be a poor , poor team
With runners on third less than 2 outs

  102. Jim Delaney

Krall has to trade Espinal so Francona will stop using him. The guy should only be used as a late inning defensive replacement and never hit the batters box… Should have left Fraley in game. Espinal and Joe have to be replaced. Those guys are negative WAR players this season…

    • Leonard Smalls

I wish the Reds didn’t have to use Espinal as much as they do but the guy IS hitting LHP this year.

      .290 BA in 2025
      .295 BA career

And the Reds as a team aren’t hitting lefties this year.

  103. Mark Moore

OK, Espy PH now makes a little more sense with him at 3B. But only a little.

    • JB

Could have just used him as a defensive replacement in the game without letting him bat. Bat Hinds.

  104. Brian Rutherford

Just wanted to vent about the worlds best manager deciding to ph the guy who leads the team in GIDP for the guy who hit a hr and has been hot as a firecracker.

Reminds me of Dusty Baker playing a certain Cf in leadoff despite having an allergy to getting on base

    So frustrating

    • Mark A Verticchio

Tito was out managed that inning.

    • VaRedsFan

      Batting .295 vs lefties.
      Fraley can’t hit lefties.
      Not really hard to understand.

  105. Mark A Verticchio

Steer’s bat does not exist right now. I can’t believe the coaches can’t tell how bad his at bats are.

    • Indy Red Man

Season started that way w/Steer? He’s hurt…going to open on the IL….nope he’s in the lineup Opening Day then he hit .180 for 2 months

    • Brian Rutherford

They value the runs he saves by being great defensively. He is what he is as a hitter. Reminds me of Todd Benzinger

  106. RedsGettingBetter

Good outing by Lodolo… winning the game so far with 11 Ks in 5.1 IP , wild

  107. Andrew Brewer

Steer doing his best impersonation of “look what I found” and Lodolo gets replaced after the first out in the 6th… WTF

  108. Mark A Verticchio

Tito is not having a good night.

  109. Indy Red Man

Wow….woke up and here we are! For a guy that doesn’t know anything, guess I got lucky on Jake. He’s a good hitter!

    • JB

You actually got one right for once. Everytime you say somebody stinks the guy has a great game. Blind squirrel.

      • Indy Red Man

Lol…..even a broken clock is right twice a day!

  110. RedAlert

Barlow is shakey as they come ….

    • Andrew Brewer

      Barlow throws nothing but junk…

  111. Leonard Smalls

Teo Hernandez hitting .460 career at GABP.

    Get. Him.

  112. Andrew Brewer

Yeah, LA says thank you very much, with a Dbl.

  113. RedAlert

How bout not running Barlow out there for another inning Tito ….

    • JB

As much as people don’t like Barlow he is the 3rd best pitcher out of the bullpen after Santillan and Pagan.

      • VaRedsFan

Yesterday Barlow hadn’t pitched in a while.
You know what they say about breaking ball pitchers that need work.
Good call by Tito to get him back out there tonight.

  114. Mark Moore

Gave up 7 hits and 2 errors but still ahead by 2. Frustrated it isn’t ahead by 10 but … where else are we gonna go? 😐

    • Andrew Brewer

5 hits and 4 runs … sure seemed like we should have had more, but we’re into the Dodgers pen.

  115. CenTexRed

Just because he’s playing for LA now doesn’t mean I’m not still looking for some chin music to get sent Edman’s way.

  116. RedsGettingBetter

    Greene got crushed at Omaha…gave up 2 homers , 4 runs , 6 Ks, 2.1 IP

    • Mark Moore

It matters how he feels tomorrow and Thursday.

    • VaRedsFan

All about getting work and recovering without any setbacks.

  117. Indy Red Man

Did something happen to Fraley or LA just put in a lefty?

      • Indy Red Man

Thanks. Jake is another one…always hurt like Purple Hays

  118. Andrew Brewer

    Ashcraft on for the Dodger’s 7th …

    • Andrew Brewer

And there’s the mandatory walk, Dennis !

  119. dimondfvr

Last inning Sadak said that every thirty or forty seconds, hot air seems to flow into their press box! Look no further Sadak, look no further! LOL

    • JB

Lol. It’s like every second. I think he puts Larkin to sleep

      • VaRedsFan

It’s because Larkin is asleep that he has to talk so much.

  120. Mark Moore

Connor Joe again … (scratches head)

  121. Indy Red Man

Guess I’d take GA over Barlow if you held a gun to my head. GA might possibly get better while its how much does Barlow have left

  122. RedAlert

Conner Joe – in a crucial game …. This is the kind of dude that has to be off this roster after trade deadline … what a joke

Way better options at Louisville right now

    • wkuchad

The better option is who Joe came in for.

This isn’t the last inning. There’s a third of the game left. Frustrating substitution.

  123. Mark A Verticchio

I hope Marte’s spot doesn’t come up again. How can he become a confident right fielder when he is replaced by Joe.

    • JB

Bell use to do that crap especially pulling Winker in like the 6th inning. Then Winkers spot would come up in the 9th with game on the line.

    • Ozzie

Hinds may hit for Joe when his spot comes up. But it’s strange to see Marte lifted after hitting a HR earlier in the game. Tito may be trying to get his best defense with a lead, and Marte is a newbie in RF. Maybe?

  124. RedAlert

    Ashcraft cant help himself –
Dude gonna walk a hitter every single time he pitches !!! It gets old !!!

    • Redlegs1869

He struggles every time he appears. Every single time. At least it seems so. Lives on the edge.

  125. RedsGettingBetter

Ashcraft can’t walked Comforto , that’s really bad dueing Betts and Ohtani…

  126. Mark Moore

Well … this is NOT what we wanted to see.

    • Mark Moore

Oh my word!!! Give the great Ohtani a Golden Sombrero … 😮

  127. Leonard Smalls

    Oh my.
    Ashcraft might get him!

  128. RedAlert

Ashcraft – does this guy EVER have a clean inning ? Get his tail out the game

  129. Leonard Smalls

    Ohtani golden sombrero!

    The Reds!
    They have good pitching!

    • Redlegs1869

You sure? Ashcrack seems to always give it up eventually. And he did it again.

  130. Andrew Brewer

He gets Ohtani for the 2nd out. Not one pitch was in the zone.

  131. Mark Moore

Poor read from Lux. Most of the others would have snagged that.

  132. RedsGettingBetter

Wow , really bad luck but the walk haunt

    • Ozzie

Wait! A walk came around to score? That NeVEr happens.

  133. JB

That’s why I leave Barlow in. The Reds have 3 guys in the bullpen.

  134. Andrew Brewer

Hays didn’t even try the throw home…

    • VaRedsFan

He threw to the proper bag.
Nobody his getting thrown out on a flare hit with 2 outs.
      Especially Betts.

  135. Mark Moore

And another great outing by Lodolo is SQUANDERED!!!

You just knew Freeman was going to flare one like that.

    • VaRedsFan

3 bloop hits in the inning.
      Rotten luck.

      • Leonard Smalls

Right. He didn’t get hard. He was throwing his junk.
Sometimes it works (Ohtani K) sometimes… it doesn’t

  136. RedAlert

Nice job Ashcraft …. Pathetic !!!!

  137. Andrew Brewer

Freeman is kickin’ our butt today.

    • Andrew Brewer

and Ashcraft gives up the Reds’ lead …

  138. Indy Red Man

Ah man….leadoff walk and a bunch of jam jobs. Stop the bleeding GA cmon

  139. Truman48

Now we have two starters out of the lineup in a tie game

    • RedAlert

As somebody already said .. Tito having a bad night ….

Ashcraft needs to move further down the pecking order … million dollar arm , ten cent head

  140. Brian Rutherford

    Graham Gascan strikes again.

    • Leonard Smalls

      40th appearance by Ashcraft.
0 ER in 28 of em
He’s not great but he’s not really one of the bullpen’s bigger problems.

      • RedAlert

He walks too many Leonard ….

Almost every single time he pitches

  141. VaRedsFan

67, 73, and 79 mph on those 3 luck hits by LA

  142. CincyDo

Francona keeps doing this and RLN keep showering praises on him. But as I said, there will be a few twists and turns. We just have to believe the resilience of this team.

  143. Indy Red Man

So Tito took out Jake and Marte? You know its not a wrap at 4-2? You might need more offense….or more corner OF play. Lux & Joe are as bad as it gets

  144. Mark A Verticchio

Tied at 4 and the 2 guys who hit home runs are out of the game = Tito’s worst game of the year.

    • wkuchad

The Marte substitution was beyond frustrating

    • Matthew

Absolutely!!! If you’re hell bent on hitting for Fraley, send up Hinds! Good RF, good arm. Might run into one. Save Espinal for LATER as a defensive replacement. No need for Joe. Period!

  145. Andrew Brewer

De La Cruz with a two out Dbl ! (no one on.)

  146. RedsGettingBetter

Ladies & Gentlemen, Alexis Díaz comes into the game

  147. RedAlert

    Just like old times –
Diaz coming in to throw gas on the fire at GABP

  148. Andrew Brewer

And look who’s coming on in relief for the Dodgers !

    • Andrew Brewer

and he gets Hays to ground out to end the inning.

  149. Mark A Verticchio

This game would be an awful loss, must find a way to pull it out.

  150. JB

Dodgers announcers sugarcoating Diaz . He has pitched 2 innings and has given up no earned runs. True but he let in 2 inherited runs. So same as it ever was.

  151. Eric the Red

Hinds will be the last guy on the bench….and will hit the game winning homerun:-)

  152. Leonard Smalls

Reds fans booed entering the game.
    Weird.

  153. Indy Red Man

Time for Rogers to come in and set this thing straight…..for LA

  154. Tomn

Suarez not in the Dback lineup tonight

    • Mark Moore

Announced earlier today. Expected to play tomorrow.

  155. RedAlert

Hope they let Diaz start bottom of 8 … he WILL give it up ….

    • Mark Moore

It would be a puzzling move by Roberts. But I’d love to see it.

  156. RedsGettingBetter

Espinal and Joe for the next inning…Jeess….

  157. Andrew Brewer

Santillan fires a strong 8th… It’s up the Reds offense now.

  158. Indy Red Man

Tony at 95 tells you he’s worn down

  159. Brian Rutherford

The place this game sits is a perfect example of the difference in the 2 franchises right now. If the Reds starters are removed from the game they don’t have ML options to replace them. How in the world can Francona remove Marte? Who has the bat on the team that can replace him?

So sick of Connor Joe and Hurtubise and Dunn and rest of the AAAA team they have run out this year

  160. Daniel Kals

When Ashcraft came in, I said “Please just only give up one run, not two.”

  161. LarkinPhillips

Poor outfield defense and a walk really hurt ashcraft. Hopefully Diaz chokes this one up!

  162. CenTexRed

Who did the Reds get for Diaz, anyway?

    • Andrew Brewer

I don’t think it was anyone. I’m surprised to see him back in Big League action.

  163. JB

Funny after every pitch as a Red, Diaz fixed his pant leg. Hasn’t done it once as a Dodger.

  164. LarkinPhillips

Diaz struggles throwing strikes so we go up there and are crazy aggressive…

  165. Andrew Brewer

    We’re onto the 9th, score tied 4-4 …

  166. Mark Moore

9th inning and we face the murderous part of their line-up. Plus it’s past my bedtime.

    • Brian Rutherford

We can provide a blindfold and a cigarette if you prefer

      • Mark Moore

        I’m considering that offer …

  167. Eric the Red

You’d think of all teams, the Reds would know to show some patience when facing Diaz.

  168. RedsGettingBetter

The offense looks pathetic with Espinal and Joe for the rest of the game

  169. Mark A Verticchio

That was a pathetic inning with Espinal and Joe batting in a tied game. Come on Tito you have got to be better than you have been tonight.

  170. RedAlert

Espinal and Conner Joe batting in a tie game in the bottom of 8th is verification that Tito really bungled his managerial decisions this game …

Pulling people too early in game is
reminiscent of what Bell did also

… don’t get me wrong I like Francona but he booted this game ….

  171. Frank Furter

I am so tired of having to watch Joe and Espinal ABs in high pressure situations in the 8th and 9th because so random lefty was brought in around the 5th inning. It seems like it happens over and over.

  172. Indy Red Man

Steer? Still 0-4 every night, but atleast he hits 1 line drive now. Progress lol

  173. RedsGettingBetter

    Another walk to Comforto…. that’s really bad…

  174. JB

Francona pulling his best Bell impression tonight. Just send Espinal and Joe down to AAA so he can’t use them.

  175. RedAlert

Walked Conforto , who can’t hit the broad side of a barn

  176. Mark Moore

If you pitch around him, you still face trouble.

  177. Ozzie

RLN’s sense of doom is growing. It’s tough to be a Reds fan.

  178. Andrew Brewer

Pinch runner for Conforto is named “Outman” … can’t make that stuff up.

      • Andrew Brewer

Would have been a play at the plate, but the ball was bobbled by our short stop.

    • Andrew Brewer

But Smith dbls scoring Outman … Dodgers up 5-4

  179. RedAlert

Can’t get over Conner Joe in right field over Hinds …. Unbelievable

  180. Mark Moore

That may just be the ballgame. One that was within our reach is slipping away.

  181. Ryan

Did Joe really just pull a phone out of his pocket?

  182. JB

Embarrassing all around . Great pitch just a better hitter.

  183. RedAlert

Hard to win when you don’t even have a legit AAA lineup on the field …

  184. dimondfvr

A perfect example why we need shut down arms at the back of the bullpen, and one or two big batts! Does it get any clearer to the FO!

    • Eric the Red

That check swing sure looked to me like strike 3 on Conforto

    • Leonard Smalls

We HAVE two of the better relief pitchers in all of baseball at the back of our bullpen.

      They’ve both pitched tonight.

The Dodgers have good hitters. Especially at the top of their order… the guys that just scored a run in the ninth.

  185. Indy Red Man

Of course. They always get the 2 out dagger while we strand the world

  186. Mark A Verticchio

Walks have killed the Reds tonight along with Tito’s poor managing.

  187. RedsGettingBetter

The game is going away after two walks to Comforto…and the offensive chances wasted…

  188. RedAlert

Gift wrapped the game for Dodgers it
Appears … and Krall /Meador wont lift a
    finger to help this roster

  189. JB

9th inning defensive outfield of Lux,Benson and Joe. Lux can’t even hit Elly on the fly. Just terrible.

    • RedAlert

Yea agree … no excuse for that period ‘

  190. Indy Red Man

Bad bad loss. Everyone has been talking about how bad LAs pen is and they outduel us easily

  191. OZZIE

The fear is this Dodger series will carry too much weight in the FO’s mind and as a result they will be less likely to make bold moves. I hope not.

  192. CenTexRed

Diaz in line for the win right now.

That would stick in some RLN craw.

    • Brian Rutherford

Thank goodness he sent him in to face a lhp. The entire world knows he struggles against lhp, except our manager. What a shock he struck out.

I thought part of the manager’s job was to put players in a position to succeed. I wonder what he has against Hinds

      • Allthehype

If he can’t hit LHP and he’s redundant with lux, Fraley, and benson, then he shouldn’t be on rhe roster. And the only reason he’s on the roster is for Friedls maternity leave.
Maybe when he goes back down he can learn to hit LHP so he can be useful.

  193. Andrew Brewer

Who will be the Dodgers’ closer ?

    • Andrew Brewer

Alex Vesia to face Rece Hinds to leadoff the Reds 9th…

  194. Frogem

Maybe Hinds should have to put in his Bats uni before donning the Reds gear?

  195. VaRedsFan

I’d let Benson bat then bring in Hinds for Lux.

  196. Mark Moore

Zone seems to be a little smaller as the game progressed.

Down to Steve-o to make something happen.

  197. CenTexRed

Yikes. Not a very convincing AB for Hinds.

  198. Ozzie

The Reds had opportunities this game that they didn’t cab in on. It’s too bad. They should have won this game.

  199. RedAlert

Terrible loss – I mean Terrible

And whiff monster Stephenson ends it in fashion…

Wish could dump this dude on somebody at trade deadline

    • LDS

This loss is on Ashcraft more than anyone though plenty of competition for that title. Pagan has has a decent year, but he’s not really the shutdown type and is too prone to the HR. Krall and his team are twiddling their thumbs why teams like Milwaukee go out and solve their weaknesses.

  200. Brian Rutherford

Worst loss among many bad losses

  201. Daniel Kals

Home plate umpire tonight was exceptionally smile-y and joke-y all night with Mookie Betts and the Dodgers bench/coaches. Just an observation.

    • CenTexRed

Who doesn’t love Mookie Betts, though?

One of the top human beings in MLB.

  202. Andrew Brewer

Yeah, this one hurt more than most for sure… Lodolo was masterful and the Reds scored 4. Should have been enough.

  203. Dennis Westrick

Same old same old! Reds relief pitchers issue WALKS which turn into runs and a comeback win for the opposition!

  204. Mark A Verticchio

Just a horrible horrible loss and, I want to know why David Bell was allowed to manage this team tonight?

  205. CincyDo

If I have to dump someone, I dump Francona. Dude is obsessed with using Ashcraft.

  206. RedAlert

Might be the worse game Francona has managed all year …. Poor poor poor
    decisions

Krall /Meador will take the next 2 days off – for all the ammunition they need now

  207. Indy Red Man

Hinds goes 0-2 heaters down the middle. Stage is just too big for him. Power display last year vs AAAA guys was impressive, but fools gold

    • RedAlert

I agree – he just cannot hit at this level
For whatever reason … needs a change os scenery badly

      • CenTexRed

Hinds is 24 years old. With numerous options remaining.

That ‘change of scenery’ should be Louisville.

He could be playing in Hawaii and he’ll still have pitch recognition issues.

There’s no pressing reason to ship him off anywhere.

  208. RedsGettingBetter

Tough loss… many miscues, Ashcraft and Pagan couldn’t hold on and the offense was bad… MAybe Krall is near of changing his mind regarding to buy after this two losses…

  209. CenTexRed

I think we’ll be seeing Alexis Diaz in the WS come October.

  210. Tim S.

This is the type of game the Reds could win if the front office would actually invest in more bullpen help and another big bat — things we’ve all known for a while are this team’s biggest needs. Instead, they’ll sit on their hands and hope the Reds lose enough to give them an excuse not to spend money.

  211. Dennis Westrick

Really need a Mets win over SD tonight!

  212. Redlegs1869

Lots of blame to go around. But it comes down to offense once again. Bases loaded with no outs and we get one run. Game was lost right there. Everyone knew it who has a brain. Ashcraft walks a guy, gives up two for the tie. Lux is playing out of position due to our poor lineup construction and basically allows an RBI single to drop in front of him. Francona feels comfortable up two and benches both Fraley and Marte who homered earlier. Pagan walks the winning run. Sends “Stephenson up to bat as a pinch hitter. What am I forgetting.

  213. Jim Delaney

Diaz pitching Dodgers and thanks to Francona,.Diaz gets to face Espinal and Joe. Espinal and Joe have to be gone by 6pm on Thursday. Front office can not allow Francona to continue to use these guys. Espinal is a defense only player and Joe is done.. also, why didn’t they call up Dunn instead of Hinds. Dunn has been on a roll at AAA and he will give you far better professional at bats than Hinds. Especially vs LH pitching..
