Brady Singer

Since a 7-run, 2.1 inning outing against Houston in early May, Brady Singer has made 10 starts and posted a 3.81 ERA. He’s only given up four home runs in 52.0 innings during that stretch.

The splits for Siner are pretty similar when it comes to average and on-base percentage. Righties walk more and make a lot more contact, but it’s not resulting in better production. Left-handed hitters make less contact, but are hitting for a slightly higher average, but also for quite a bit more power.

Bradley Blalock

Cincinnati faced Bradley Blalock back in April and scored six runs in 4.0 innings against him. Two outings later he gave up 12 runs in 3.2 innings to San Diego and headed back to Triple-A.  In his first start there he allowed 11 hits and eight earned in 3.0 innings. While he got better after that, it wasn’t much better – his ERA was 7.36 in the seven starts that followed.

In the big leagues he’s been crushed by both lefties and righties. The same thing holds true for his time in Triple-A this season, though righties have the advantage there as they’ve walked more than they’ve struck out and hit for a lot more power. Either way you want to slice it, though, everyone has hit the ball well against him this season.

Just a couple of quick comments on yesterday’s disappointing loss to the Rockies! Every game from this point on in the season takes on added importance! The Reds wasted an opportunity to pick up a game on the Cubs who got shellacked by the Yankees 11-0 as well as the Cards who lost to the Braves!

Since I didn’t watch or follow the game, one stat that stood out, in addition to the horrid 0-11 with RISP, was my pet peeve with Reds pitchers – WALKS! Reds pitchers walked 4 batters and 2 of those walks ended up scoring! The walk by Burns prior to the HR and, of course, the walk issued by Big Tony that scored as a result of his 2-out wild pitch!

Hopefully today the Reds will be much better at scoring when they have RISPs. Any hope of a 5-2 homestand is gone and the Reds are now gonna have to work to finish this 7-game homestand at 4-3.

Let’s score a bunch of runs for Singer and hope he can pitch 6+ strong innings!

    • Leonard Smalls

The Cubs are gonna do what the Cubs do (.500 from here out would get them to ~90 wins) so I don’t think Reds fans should spend much time looking that far up the standings.

      NL Wild Card Race:

The Padres and the Giants both won tough games yesterday against playoff-bound teams while the Reds wasted a chance to beat an historically bad team.

The wild card writing is on the wall and it says: “Win the next two against these Rockies and then two or three in New York against the Mets.”

The Reds do not want to be at .500 or just one game over at the end of July. They need to win games against the Cubs and Brewers but they are actually competing with the Giants and the Padres.

      (I’m not worried about the Cardinals…. 17-20 since going 19-8 in May 😉 )

  2. Oldtimer

    Reds P gave 116 ERA+ this year (100 is league average). Reds P average 8 K and 3 BB per 9 IP.

It’s hard being an MLB pitcher. The Reds P have been pretty good this year.

The Reds main problem last night and all year has been a lack of timely HITTING, not pitching.

    • Mark Moore

Harder still when you don’t get run support to back you.

    • Dennis Westrick

Don’t disagree! Despite the Reds having 8 hits last night those hits were scattered and, of course, NO hits with RISP! That’s generally a recipe for a loss regardless of the opponent unless your pitcher throws a shutout!

  3. RedsGettingBetter

I think Tito could try to put Noelvi Marte batting in the 2nd spot of the lineup and gets down McLain to the 8th or 9th spot… Of course, Tito doesn’t think so…
The Reds offense should take advantage of Rockies starter…

  4. Mark Moore

Two games until the break. Winning today and tomorrow would lift the spirits here at RLN. Starts with today’s game so …

Let’s Kick This Pig and get back on track.

    • Dennis Westrick

Nothing lifts the spirits of this old Reds fan like a win! Especially after a loss like last night!

  5. Dennis Westrick

The Stupid Cubs just won their game against the Yankees! Gotta keep pace!

  6. Kevin H

Good article on the reds website. Francona explaining why they sent CES down and what they want him to do. Francona seems to truly be what the reds needed in terms of communication and having the respect of his players.

    • Dennis Westrick

Saw that article! Couldn’t agree more about Francona!

  7. DataDumpster

Watch out Reds! The Rockies may have some extra motivation tonight. Not only could they achieve a fairly rare 2 game winning streak but they will also vault ahead of Connie Mack’s 1916 Philadelphia Athletics, now the modern day worst team of all time with a .234 winning pct. This team had the HOF Nap Lajoie (“Frenchie”), Bullet Joe Bush (who had a fine 2.57 ERA while losing 24 games) and Charlie Grimm (who both played in and managed over 2,000 games). Looking further down the roster it seems they could have done better.

    • SteveAReno

I’ve been saying don’t take Colorado for granted and talk of a sweep! Last time they played us they gave us quite a fit. Have us figured out somewhat.

  8. Mark Moore

Bike Helmets for a quick inning. That works all the way around.

Time to hit. Hoping Jobu is semi-sober and in the clubhouse breathing on the bats.

    • Dennis Westrick

More like drooling on the bats!

  9. drc

Several people here have advocated for moving Marte up to second in the order, but wouldn’t it be better to move Elly up to second, and slide Marte into the 3rd position?

  10. Mark Moore

Out of curiosity, where is Sadak?

    • dimondfvr

Sadak was in a “Running accident” and broke an elbow. 🙁

      • Mark Moore

Thanks. I was wondering. He had a cycling accident a year or two ago if I recall. Wish him well in his recovery.

    • Daytonnati

Day mentioned he was filling in for him before the game. Maybe weekend off with the All-Star game break?

      • Daytonnati

I think the accident was a couple of years ago? Unless it happened again.

  11. Mark Moore

That’s a huge improvement from Hays over last night’s disastrous o-fer.

    • Leonard Smalls

Nice. He fouled off three pitches up and worked a sac fly on a pitch lower in the zone.

Last night he was about as bad as a MLB hitter can be (4K and a GIDP… only his last AB was at all respectable) but Hays can usually handle mediocre/crappy MLB pitching.

      • Mark Moore

Last night he was killing us, Smalls … 😉

  12. Mark Moore

Cowboy was talking earlier about how much better a pitcher is if the first pitch to a hitter is a strike. You may get “ambushed” at times and give up a hit or a dinger, but you also get your share of first pitch outs. Singer is looking like he heard that so far today.

I do wish Cowboy would coach or manage, but I’m thinking he’s way to smart to have to deal with the politics that come with those positions.

    • Kevin H

With work schedule change I have been able to listen to Reds Radio and Brantley just explains everything. A wealth of knowledge.

      • Leonard Smalls

        Brantley is really, really good.
I listen to a lot of other MLB teams radio broadcasts and there are not many guys doing color commentary as well as he does.
AND he can do play by play!
He is honestly one of my favorite things about following the Reds.

  13. Dennis Westrick

Well, at least Hays didn’t strike out or hit into a double play!

  14. Brian Rutherford

If I were the person paying Larkin’s salary, I would be disappointed in the output. It seems like he is trying to get Jim Day to go solo as much as possible.

    • Leonard Smalls

I used to tune in to watch Barry Larkin play.
These days, he has me finding other ways to watch or listen to the Reds.

      The man has negative charisma.
      He’s like the anti-Brantley.

      • Brian Rutherford

It’s especially striking with Jim Day being so likeable.

You also know what Larkin is going to say “let the ball travel” or use the work “heater” 100 times.

    • DataDumpster

I still can’t believe they allowed him to make that move. He has no talent (other than a decent speaking voice) for being an announcer. He is needed for “real baseball stuff” and except for showing up for spring training, I don’t think he has any defined role on this team except perhaps giving an opinion now and then.

  15. Mark A Verticchio

I can’t stand how the Red’s announcers make every opposing pitcher out to be Bob Gibson.

    • Brian Rutherford

I understand your comment for sure. It doesn’t help that the Reds hitters make them look like Sandy Koufax.

      Just saying.

    • DataDumpster

I believe they were so ingrained in the loyalty pledge and indoctrinated so well with the Bell post presser drivel, they just fall into habit. Except for Marty Brennaman in his later years and The Cowboy (just a touch), it’s rare to find any of these people “get out of line” in this organization. Forbes magazine said it best about 20 years ago when talking about Cincinnati in general: “Anything new is treated with suspicion.” [Don’t mean to offend anybody]

  16. Kevin H

Wow the ole “Baltimore chop” hit.

Did I say or type that right?

  17. RedsGettingBetter

That’s unbelievable …The problem is you should hit a lot against this Rockies team if you don’t then bad things will happen

  18. Mark A Verticchio

Behind again, the bats need to come alive or they are going to lose this series.

  19. Dennis Westrick

Tito needs to seriously consider moving Hays out of the No. 4 spot in the batting order! Just too many wasted scoring opportunities, especially in the last games!

    • Kevin

I’m sure he’s considered it. I have no idea who to put there, though. No one hits consistently.

  20. RedsGettingBetter

What a zero by Singer…really good …keep the 1-run game

  21. Mark Moore

Singer says, “Nevermind, I’ll take care of them Rocks.”

  22. Gpod

There is no excuse for the reds not pounding this Colorado pitcher….he is not someone that should be breezing thru major league hitters…let’s go already!!!

  23. Mark A Verticchio

Hayes is killing the offense but he is not alone except for Elly and Marte.

  24. Dennis Westrick

Only other team that could find a way to not score after a leadoff triple is the Reds!

NICE JOB by Singer (aka Houdini) to get out of that inning unscathed!

  25. DaveCT

From the Department of Small Contributions.

Trevino making two good blocks with a runner on 3B.

Also, subjectively, Trevino and Singer being in lockstep to get out of that situation, especially, showing some fire after the third out.

  26. Mark Moore

Could have been a literal jawbreaker there 😮

    • Mark Moore

I pitched slow-pitch softball. I wore my soccer shin guards.

  27. RedAlert

The suckage has completely set in on this team …

  28. LDS

So, the Reds are losing again to a pitcher with an ERA about 10.00?. They can handle teams like Cleveland but not the Rockies? That’s all in their head.

  29. Mark A Verticchio

Double plays are killing this team and Steer is back to not hitting again. I have never seen a team any harder to figure out than this bunch.

  30. RedsGettingBetter

Unable to hit against a 12.80-ERA guy… horrible

  31. Dennis Westrick

This game is eerily starting to look a lot like last night’s game! Wasted scoring opportunities early with rally-killing double plays!

Thought this Rockies SP had a 10+ ERA!

  32. Gpod

Look…Rockies started the runner….Tito says: “you can do that?!”

  33. Mark Moore

Can’t keep relying on Houdini innings … but I’m glad we got another one. Good job by Marte.

  34. RedsGettingBetter

Another incredible zero by Singer…it seems Rockies have the same struggles to score with runners on 3rd base and less than 2 outs as the Reds…

  35. Dennis Westrick

Singer living a charmed life! Can we please score some runs now!

  36. Kevin H

Have to admit, while I didnt think Reds would sweep the Rockies. I didnt think they would struggle to score runs.

Baseball is truly a funny game.

    • Dennis Westrick

Funny as in the current offensive funk the Reds are in is laughable?

      • Kevin H

No, funny as in every mlb team can beat anyone on any given day. I think Jeff Brantley said it’s been Rockies bullpen that has blown alot of leads.

    • Mark A Verticchio

You better start to worry about the Rockies sweeping the Reds, which would basically put a fork in this season.

      • Erik the red

Losing this game will be the fork in this season. Just not enough offense.

    • Mark Moore

For a funny game, I’m doing more yelling than laughing lately 😛

    • WCRon

I am truly concerned that the Redd are the ones who will be swept

  37. Gpod

The reds aren’t even the ball hard …this is ridiculous

    • RedAlert

This is pathetic and embarrassing . None of these Reds hitters know how to work a count basically … go up there absolutely hacking

Just brutal approaches most of the time at the plate

      • Mark Moore

And they are “hacking” vs. “ambushing”. We’ve seen the latter during the winning streaks. And we’ve seen a LOT of the former.

  38. RedsGettingBetter

Now Blalock is cruising against the Reds as German Marquez did it yesterday… I can’t believe this…

  39. Mark A Verticchio

This is becoming a replica of last night’s game. However the Rockies had a much better pitcher in last night’s Titanic Struggle.

  40. Joe

Well, um, at least we don’t have to worry about wasting money being buyers at the trade deadline. (Wow, this is terrible.)

  41. Kevin H

If it makes anyone feel any better Rockies played Reds close two out of three games in Colorado.

    Lol

  42. RedsGettingBetter

Literally this game is a deja vu from yesterday so far

  43. Mark Moore

I need to go heat up the Blackstone and get ready to cook burgers. Hold the fort down for me, will you friends?

  44. Gpod

If the reds get swept at home by the Rockies someone should be fired …just sayin

  45. RedsGettingBetter

Come on, another killer double-play , no way …just frustrating

    • 70times7

McLain 5th hit this week. He’s hot

  46. DaveCT

It’s like the Reds get lulled into mediocrity when playing teams like the Rockies.

    • DaveCT

That said, the Laws of Mediocrity state the Reds will not get swept, as to be truly mediocre — and not pathetic — they will wake up just in time for the last game of the series.

  47. Justin T

This kid cane in with a lifetime ERA of 8.29. Only 70 pitches thru 5 with one hit. Come on Reds wgat are you waiting for.

  48. RedsGettingBetter

Hays singles now with bases empty…LOL

  49. RedAlert

No running game is simply killing this team – double play after double play after double play … how
Bout try something different Francona… it status quo AINT WORKING

  50. Mark A Verticchio

There should be some accountability for this at the break.

  51. CincyDo

That right there sums up the funk Reds are in. When bases are empty, players hit a single. When men on bases, players strike out or HDP. Hays hit a meaningless single.

  52. Dennis Westrick

Switched to the MLB All-Star Futures game! Better hitters!

  53. Dennis Westrick

I don’t understand how Elly gets doubled up, ever!

      • Dennis Westrick

Thanks, Kevin! I didn’t see that play!

  54. Mark A Verticchio

This is so hard to watch.

  55. Dennis Westrick

And Benson strikes out with the bases loaded! Of course he does! This team is bordering on unwatchable!

  56. CincyDo

3 hits and a walk in an inning but no run. Only Reds can do that. Where is CES when we needed him with bases loaded.

    • Mark A Verticchio

That is hard to do, only these 2025 Reds. .500 here they come.

  57. RedAlert

Worst team BY FAR IN MLB and Reds can’t do anything – Benson man that’s just a pitiful , pitiful at bat

    • Gpod

      He saw 4 pitches …only 1 was a strike…yet he still SO….he does it over & over

    • Redlegs1869

Are we sure the Rockies are the worst MLB team right now?

  58. Jedi Joey

Horrible! Struggling with the worst team in baseball at home. No excuses for this.

    • RedAlert

      Agree 1000% with this ….totally
      embarrassing …

  59. Stan

Reds going to help the Rockies avoid the worst record in baseball.

  60. Indy Red Man

Flipped it on just to McLain stay put while Elly hits into a dp. Cost us the lead. When you don’t have power then you better look to run as much as you can. They changed the rules to makes steals easier after all. They will not recover from losing this series.
    Hays last night…today Benson.

    • Gpod

Tito just refuses to start runners…and it’s growing old

  61. RedsGettingBetter

Fernandez going 3-3 against Singer … The worst team in baseball now 3-1 ahead

  62. Dennis Westrick

There’s the WALK that results in a run! Anybody else feel like 3 runs is too much to overcome?

  63. Dennis Westrick

Switching to a replay of a documentary on the duckbill platypus!

  64. Jedi Joey

I haven’t thrown in the towel yet but it’s not looking good for a comeback today.

  65. Matt

There is zero indication that Francona has made any impact on this team. The record in 1-run games and when trailing after 6 innings doesn’t inspire confidence that he is having any impact on the game.

  66. Kevin H

Its a wth type of game for me. I am sure the team is frustrated as well.. if not more

  67. CincyDo

It seems Rockies have a good strategy attacking Reds hitters so far. Ground ball after ground ball.

    • Dennis Westrick

I’m surprised that PETA has not filed a lawsuit against the Reds for the number of worms they have killed by hitting ground ball outs!

  68. Leonard Smalls

The Reds are batting .201 with 2 outs and man on third.
    (160 PAs)

The Cubs are batting .275 with 2 outs and a man on third.
    (193 PAs)

The Dodgers are hitting .285 with 2 outs and a man on third.
    (191 PAs)

.711 OPS overall before today. League average OPS is .715
.245 BA overall before today. League Average in .245

Their overall O numbers compare pretty evenly with the Padres overall O numbers.

The Padres are batting .245 with 2 outs and a runner on third.
    (198 PAs)

So they’re not getting guys to third base and they’re not getting him in when they do.

    81-81, Reds fans.

    • CincyDo

Numbers match what the eyes see. Reds have problem hitting with RISP in general. Good stuff, thx for the data.

      • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, the overall RISP numbers probably don’t show that much of a difference in BA but the fact that the Reds only have 160 PAs in the scenario compared to the Padres with 198, tells you that they’re not getting guys to third base.

Their lineup is still probably (ugh) still too overly reliant on home runs (at GABP).
They stink against left-handed pitching and they’re just not as productive as they should be overall.

      • Leonard Smalls

They’re league-average in GIDP, by the way.
Just below league-average in total bases.

        Runner LOB:
below league-average 643 with 618 before today. Again, that’s mostly a reflection of them just not getting ON base as much as they should be.

  69. Mark A Verticchio

Why is Marte batting 9th. I guess Espinal will now take over at 3rd for defense.

    • SteveAReno

You’d like to see another double off the wall by Espinal wouldn’t you,

  70. Jedi Joey

On the bright side, Ashcraft looked pretty good tonight. I know, I’m trying to find anything to be positive about. Ha ha

    • Kevin H

I consider myself Mr. Positive of rln.. hahahaha nice to see someone else. Lol

      • Jedi Joey

I’m usually not in sports, Kevin. Too many decades of the Reds and Bengals. lol!!!! I’m trying to be better.

  71. Kevin H

Dear Reds GM. Reds need two bullpen arms and at least one solid bat.

    Let’s get it done!!!

  72. RedsGettingBetter

Come on, 3 double plays today …it’s ridiculous

    • Gpod

Because Tito refuses to start runners ever!!

  73. DK in Erie pa

For the love of God, would it be possible to start a runner to stay out of double play!?!

    • Gpod

For the love of god would someone ask Tito why he refuses to start runners!!

  74. Mark A Verticchio

Another double play, now Marte may not bat again. 48 and 48 and the not getting swept streak to end vs the Rockies at home. How funny, or sad, is that.

  75. RedAlert

Break out the paper bags …. Giving Krall (or whoever ) all the excuse they need to
continuously sit on their collective rears and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT TRADE
    DEADLINE

    • Kevin H

Not happy, yet the paper bags are a little extreme.

I do agree Krall or whoever wont do anything and that in my opinion isn’t on Francona

      • Jedi Joey

People aren’t happy and are going to vent. It’s been a long stretch of not winning. 🙁

  76. Dennis Westrick

Leadoff walk by Reds RP! Check!

  77. Mark A Verticchio

They should sell, sell sell now this season is over.

  78. Jedi Joey

The boo birds are out at GABP. Can’t blame them!

  79. RedsGettingBetter

Pagán is making the things even worse

  80. Mark Moore

I feel for Pagan. A decent BP arm in the closer role (which I dislike) on a team where he doesn’t get the opportunities. So we see the rust when he does come in.

Houdini out of this one and maybe we have a chance.

    • Jedi Joey

That was a nice way to Houdini out of that mess. Last chance coming up. C’mon boys!

  81. WCRon

Love the Reds. But can’t take this any more
At least my evenings are now free for the rest of thecdeadon

  82. Kevin H

My God let’s go offense. No reason to lose 2 games in a row to Rockies!!!

  83. RedsGettingBetter

Pagán bounces back and the Reds gets another big zero… Could this haunt Rockies?

  84. Mark Moore

THAT was a proper ambush by Steer.

    And then BENSON!!!

    • Kevin H

I hope that isnt against the rules Doug if it is I wont do that again.

  85. Brian Rutherford

This is the third year for the current core of this team and if they are waiting for someone like Steer or Stephenson to develop into middle of the order run producers and power threats the time is just about up.

I wouldn’t be mad at any position player other than Elly being traded at this point. The problem is I don’t know what you would get for most of them at this point. They may be wasting the prime years of a transformative player and I don’t know how they can fix it. The best offensive players cost money that ownership has proven they won’t spend.

  86. Jedi Joey

Willie B!!! What a huge triple!!! Tie game!

  87. Mark Moore

Vodnik has to pitch to Fraley. Can’t come out.

  88. CincyDo

Benson missed walk off HR by a little bit. Tie game

  89. BK

Vodnik threw a lot of pitches yesterday. I like our chances!

  90. Mark Moore

Let’s see just how hot Marte is …

  91. Mark Moore

Wow … everybody exhale … and let go of your butts.

    • Dennis Westrick

My proctologist is going to have questions!

  92. Kevin H

Reds pulled a Rabbit out of the hat!!! Big win geesh.

  93. dimondfvr

Let’s get win number 2,000 tomorrowfor Tito!

  94. CenTexRed

What sense did it make to pitch to Marte there?

Why not walk him to at least try for a force out at home?

Nutty stuff, but Reds avoid another sweep.

    • Mark Moore

Yeah … not the best move from my living room chair either.

      • CenTexRed

Maybe hope for a GB to second, freeze Benson.

Walk LH Friedl and get RH McLain to hit into a DP.

“Tell me about the rabbits again, George.”

  95. VaRedsFan

LDS had to erase his prepost about the loss today.

    • Jim Walker

+10K Yes, a win is a win even if it is a backsider.

    • LDS

I erased nothing obviously. Once again, the Reds failed to rise to the occasion against vastly poorer team. It’s a pattern. I thought Francona’s had made some progress but on series like the last two, I’m not so sure. They should be scoring 8-10 runs against teams like this. Not hoping the other team screws up and they accidentally win.

      • Kevin H

Marlins had been on a hot streak and playing good baseball. They had won 11 straight road games. Francona has made a difference.

  96. Votto4life

Great win! Well deserved. Bullpen was excellent.

    • Mark Moore

Singer had a good game overall. Another QS and a win.

      • Mark Moore

not a W for Singer … for the team

  97. RedsGettingBetter

Benson came through with a game-tying triple and the Rockies defense gave up the Reds winning run… REDS WIN! like ave phoenix they go back to live from the ashes

    • Mark Moore

We’ve played pretty well in Phoenix, haven’t we?

  98. Dennis Westrick

OK Reds! Don’t forget your manners! It is customary to send a Thank You note when someone gives you a gift!

  99. Tom Diesman

Another great win for the Reds. There is no quit in this team.

    • Dennis Westrick

Have to agree! They play to the final buzzer! Oops! Wrong sport! They definitely use up all 27 outs!

    • CenTexRed

Yep, they didn’t let those three GIDP get them down.

  100. LDS

So Colorado is so bad, they can give the Reds a victory despite their collective efforts to lose. A win is a win, but that performance was simply embarrassing

    • Kevin H

Brewers lost to Colorado twice this season. Giants have as well. I agree Colorado is bad, however Reds came back and won. Doesn’t matter how, they won.

    • CenTexRed

      “Simply”?

Not a great game by any measure but:

      ‘Good enough’ start by Singer.

      Rare sac fly from Hays.

      Timely HR from Marte.

Pagan digs himself out of a hole we’ve seen the Reds BP fall into often.

Benson’s first 3B of the year.

Marte hits to the opposite field / right side with runner on third.

      Lo and behold.

  101. Dennis Westrick

Been battling a bad cold since Thursday! I feel MUCH BETTER now!

  102. Joe

Forgive my earlier skepticism, I’ve been watching the Reds disappoint for decades. Good job guys.

    • Rednat

Perfectly reasonable to be skeptical at this point. I wasnt even that excited when they won to be honest. This team has been a big dissapointment for sure.

  103. VaRedsFan

Marte should get an RBI on the last play.
You can’t assume the out at home right?
I think Will beats it anyway.

    • VaRedsFan

Marte had a put in play approach.
You could tell he pulled his hands in to go the other way.

      • CenTexRed

That would be a very welcome sign.

        I hope it’s contagious.

    • DW

Yeah I agree. I think he scores there regardless of the error. Great job by Marte.

  104. RedsGettingBetter

It’s hard to me being frustrated , upset and disappointed literally seven innings of the game to be excited just at the end… but it is worth if it’s a W…
Reds secured being above .500 before the AS break…and …remain “unswept”
The big zeroes got in the 4th, 5th and 9th were huge for this win

    • Kevin H

Agree with this 100% and lost in all this was Singer’s solid pitching as well as Ashcraft and Pagan getting out of top of 9th.

      • Dennis Westrick

The Reds bullpen dodged more bullets than a squirrel at a redneck firing range!

  105. Jim t

It looked to me like Benson took his time getting out of the batters box after his hit in the ninth. Anyone else notice that?

    • Dennis Westrick

Maybe he thought he had hit the ball hard enough for a HR?

    • DW

Yes. Possibly could have ended it there if he would have hustled the whole way. But I tend to hate that sort of celebration and drawing attention to one’s self. I value humility.

      • Kevin H

Yes Francona mentioned that post game and said that wouldn’t happen again. Why I like Francona, he holds his players responsible and accountable

      • CenTexRed

        Be forewarned…..

You used the word “accountable”, likely to bring down the wrath of a certain unaccountable RLN opinionator. 😉

  106. DW

Worst noting that Marte played quite well defensively at third today. That coming from one of those who have been favoring moving him to the outfield this offseason. Really pleased with his response to last year’s disaster and being cut from MLB roster in spring training. He has been one of the best hitters on the team this year when he has played.

    • CenTexRed

The Reds traded their best pitcher of the 2000s for Marte, so I’m ready to hang on.

2026 w Marte in LF and a revitalized CES at 3B?

      Or vice versa?

So far that fantasy beats many of the trade proposals floated here.

  107. Indy Red Man

Espn box score says Marte no rbi there? No force at the plate so they’re assuming alot? That has to be an rbi imo

    • Jim Walker

They charged an error on the play is the explanation I heard/ read for no RBI. I suppose the presumption was since Benson was the winning run that the out lost/ free base was him.

  108. Jim Walker

CES reported to the AAA Bats and was in their lineup at 3b. He went 1/4, a single, with a K.
Hinds was 1/3, a double, with a K and a BB. Hinds K came with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 8th, off of a LHP of course.
Valade was 2/4 with a HR.
Urbaez played LF for the second consecutive game.

As Doug pointed out in the post about Fraley’s recall, the Reds are 6 deep in the outfield. Four of them are LH hitters and four of them only play outfield. Keep an eye on the possibility Vilade or Urbaez could be brought up as a RH guy who could play corner OF and IF since Espinal is the only primarily infield sub with CES optioned out. And keep in mind the trade deadline is approaching.
