Nick Lodolo

Healthy this year, Nick Lodolo has pitched much better in 2025 than he did in 2024. While he’s had a misstep or two along the way, through his 18 starts he’s been quite good. Over his last four outings he’s fiven up seven runs in 21.2 innings (2.91 ERA) with 23 strikeouts.

The splits for Lodolo continue to be weird. Teams still aren’t sending many left-handed hitters out to face him but the ones that get out there continue to find plenty of his against him. They aren’t hitting for power, but the singles are piling up. Right-handed hitters aren’t hitting for much average and they aren’t drawing walks, but when they do get hits they show solid power.

Cal Quantrill

In only four of his 17 starts this season has Cal Quantrill pitched into the 6th inning and in just one of those outings did he record an out. He struggled to start the season, posting an ERA of 8.10 through April. Since then, though, he’s posted an ERA of 3.96 in 11 starts.

The splits against Quantrill are huge and they are of the reverse kind. Right-handed hitters have obliterated the ball against him this season, hitting .371 and slugging .654 against him. But lefties have hit just .196 against him and without much power at all.

Nope sorry. 47-46 for the home team, down 8 games.

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, a 47-46 team has a hard time getting to 90 wins.
Even a 51-46 team has a hard time getting to 90 wins. (They’d need to go 39-26.)

Bad news: The 2025 Reds are not going to chase down the Cubs and win the NL Central.

The Cubs (54-38) have 7 games remaining against the Reds.

If the Reds go 5-2 those games, and the Cubs (currently with a .590 WP%) were to go just 32-31 in all other games, the Cubs would be 91-71.

For the Reds to (47-46) get to 91-71 (including those 5 hypothetical wins against the Cubs) they’d have to go at least 39-33 in all of their remaining non-Cubs games.

None of that is going to happen.

The Reds are probably not even going to be able to chase down the Brewers (53-40 right now so 35-34 from here out is still getting them close to 90 wins)

The best that Reds fans should be hoping/expecting is that the Reds win these next four games and go at least 35-30 in the second half while the Padres, the Giants and (most likely) the Cardinals (16-19 since May while the Reds have been 18-16) continue to fade back towards .500

86 wins is posssssible and 86 wins miiiight get the NLWC#3 spot.

(Note: I am 87.6% sure that all of my math is correct here 😉 )

  2. Indy Red Man

If only they could get these last 4 and go in with a 5 game streak and feeling good. One pitch at a time! The pen got some rest and should be able to go all out this weekend. Like to see Matty lay down more bunts too

  3. Mark S.

Hopefully Lodolo improves on that home ERA:
    Home (9 games) 4.69
    Away (9 games) 2.56

    Quantrill:
    Home (8 games) 4.91
    Away (9 games) 5.85

    • Old Big Ed

I would say bet the over, but the odd-duck starting time may come into play.

      • JB

Sunlight in left field could be a major problem

  4. Dennis Westrick

Odd start time to say the least! Kinda puzzling since Miami plays at Baltimore tomorrow night and doesn’t have to fly to the west coast!

As for today’s game, need the “good” Lodolo to show up and emulate Abbott’s 7+ inning performance in yesterday’s game!

Scoring early and often will help!

See where The Stupid Cubs won their game earlier this afternoon!

    • Jim Walker

The Old Dominion post game concert is the cause of the early start.

      I’ll say nothing more 😉

  5. Votto4life

Before the season started the most optimistic baseball writers had the Reds finishing around .500. Some had them finishing below the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now on the 10th of July the team is a game above .500.

If you are disappointed with the Reds current record it’s because you had unrealistic expectations for this team.

I am happy with the season so far. They just came through a brutal stretch in their schedule and they remain over .500.

We are past the halfway mark of the season and the Reds are within 3.5 games of a Wild Card spot. I don’t think they will make the post season this season, but at least they are in the conversation.

This is a good team. It needs a bit of tweaking, but there is no reason the Reds can’t be a playoff team in 2026. I am really looking forward to see what this can do next season.

    • Indy Red Man

Tito running the ship with McLain coming back and adding Hays & Singer. I saw some 84-85 wins predictions. Milw seemed to be selling off and Cards were rebuilding. I expected to compete for a wild card. Heck Elly seemed capable of a 35/70 season

    • JohnnySofa

Next season? Why even talk about next season when it’s early July and the Reds are in the Wild Card mix at less than full strength? Glad our manager has his sights squarely on 2025. Forget 2026.

  6. Mark Moore

Buckle Up Cupcake … time for a Phish Dinner!!!

    Reds vs Qunatrill

    The good news:
    Benson 1fer1 with a HR
    Elly 1fer2 w a 2B
    Lux 3fer11 w a 3B (and 2 K)
    – – Lux in his last 10 games: 34 PA 10 SO 6 BB .215 BA / .355 OBP / .285 SLG
    Trevino 1fer4 w a HR and a sacrifice hit

The good news on the bench:
    Stephenson 3fer5 w a HR and a BB
    Espinal 1fer1

    The bad news:
Friedl, Steer and Hays are a combine 0fer11 vs Quantrill
    2 K 0 BB
(Hays has a sac fly RBI)

Marte is 0fer1 with a HBP

  8. Dennis Westrick

Looking at the NL Wild Card standings it’s essentially a 7-team race for the 3 playoff spots! A nice 4 or 5 game wiining streak by the Reds before the ASG break would be nice!

    • CI3J

If he’s anywhere other than Louisville, he’s in the wrong place.

  10. AZ Reds fan

The return of Noelvi Marte certainly has spelled the end of playing time for CES. I guess it’s his own fault for not hitting much… still, a shame. CES isn’t going to hit his way out of his funk while sitting on the bench.

    • JohnnySofa

Can’t call it a “funk” at this point. He hit .190 with a .513 OPS last year and .208 with a .610 OPS this year. Not full seasons, but still … a total of 260 PAs is not a teeny-tiny sample size either.

    • WCRon

So who should be benched to let him play

  11. RedsGettingBetter

We need Lodolo having an outing like Abbott’s yesterday…Of course , the offense have to provide enough run support… This game is winnable by the Reds

  12. Jim Walker

The White Sox just acquired a (somewhat) hotshot outfield prospect from Toronto and iced him a AAA for the time being raising eyebrows that the Sox are looking to trade one or more outfielders off their 26 man roster…..

  13. JB

Baltimore just traded Tampa their setup man for Battista. Krall sitting on his butt as usual. I’m sure we will get that excuse of they couldn’t come together on anything.

    • Klugo

Or another of his favorites, “we will basically get some new acquisitions from our own IL”.

    • Jim Walker

Must be something in the water???

One of the big trade windows in the NHL is around July 1 (their free agency window opening date).

Typically, the trades not involving sign/ trade deals for pending FAs start after the window opens, but this year they were going like crazy ahead of the window. Maybe in MLB too?

  14. Klugo

Well, I’m either gonna be disappointed with this series or REALLY disappointed with this series. Here’s to achieving the former.

    • Leonard Smalls

      Ha! Exactly.

A win tonight and four-game sweep of the Rockies should make us forget about the first two games of this series.

      Let’s go Reds!

      • Leonard Smalls

        😉

I guess I’m just trying to dream up ways to get them to 90 wins!

They may need all the help available (and even my imaginary fourth game vs the Rocks) … I just realized the Cubs won today so all of my math up above ^^^ is now a little mor daunting.

  15. Hanginwithem

Let’s see if Lodolo takes the baton tonight. Abbott keeps setting the bar a little higher.

    • Leonard Smalls

The Marlins have not hit LHP well this year (.665 OPS)

But it looks like some of these guys have had success vs Lodolo…
      Fortes, Wagaman, Ramirez

  16. docproc

Good lord, Sam LeCure, cut back on the caffeine and ease up on the word count.

  17. CI3J

Hope Lodolo isn’t having blister problems again.

But if it was going to happen, right before the ASB is the ideal time.

  18. VaRedsFan

Sam Lecure just said more words in an inning than Larkin says in 5.
He and Sadak work well together, as does Cowboy, as does Welsh

I’m convinced people get disgusted with Sadak because of lack of Larkin.

    Sadak is fine.

    • docproc

Sadak is fine. Brantley is great. Larkin is boring. Welsh is meh. LeCure needs to calm the heck down.

      • VaRedsFan

Maybe Sam is being paid by the word?

      • Melvin

No way. If that’s the case they couldn’t afford Sadak AND LeCure. 🙂 I’m actually very happy someone is trying to out talk Sadak. It’s not an easy thing to do. 🙂

    • Mark Moore

The Larkin factor is definitely a part of it. He’s much more palatable with somebody else. I’ll still defer to the WLW audio overlay when it’s Thrall and Cowboy.

  19. JohnnySofa

I have full confidence in Francona, and MM might wind up with 3 hits tonight. However, I’d like to know why MM is locked in as the #2 hitter. He strikes out way too often in front of Elly and aside from a flash here and there has been awful.

    • JB

I agree and I love MM. Put Lux there against Righties.

    • JA

Elly is now the Reds best hitter, leading hr, rbi, BA… he would be hitting better if had a better one in the 2nd spot . All the year batting “unprotected”

      • VaRedsFan

How about all of the guys that batted after him while Hays was shelved?

      • JA

Those who were not patient enough to not even allowing a chance for Elly to steal 2nd, by being out at first pitch ?

      • Leonard Smalls

He’s probably still striking out too much to be a #2 hitter?

  20. VaRedsFan

    OMG folks…a stolen base!
Comes home on the Hays Single.

  21. JB

Steer. Just killing it in his last 20 games.

    • Jim Walker

Yes he is. Ride him while he is hot.

  22. Old-school

    Steer with a no doubter

    2023 team mvp warming up

    11 HR

  23. VaRedsFan

    Keep an eye on Lodolo.
If he gets ahead in the count, if the next few pitches are competitive.

He gets in pitch count problems when he wastes so many “not close” pitches.

  24. CincyDo

Reds were drowning and Marlins gave them 2 life lines: a RHP with a 7+ ERA and a RHP 5+ ERA.

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, it’s easy to forget that those guys are out there when your team is struggling with expensive pedigreed Phillies starters.

..Still, no idea what was up with their effort against Junk on Monday?

      • CincyDo

Reds are known to struggle against “junky” pitches, pun intended, such as soft, breaking pitches. Junk threw a lot of that.

      • CincyDo

Reds are know to struggle against junky pitches, aka soft breaking pitches. Junk threw junkies 🙂

      • Leonard Smalls

        Is Junk a “junk” pitcher?

…The Reds are actually better against finesse pitchers over the past three seasons or more.

      • docmike

Janson Junk entered the game on Monday with a 3.62 ERA. So, he hadn’t exactly been junk this year.

Still, I expected better than 1 unearned run in 6 innings.

  25. Mark Moore

Inning by inning … that approach works for me. Keep Nick calm and in check (in Trevino we trust). Getting through 6 would be a big help.

  26. CincyDo

We just have to accept that Singer and Lodolo will never through no hitters. They are very generous with pitxh count and giving up hits. As long as they keep the runs low, I am ok with that.

  27. WCRon

That may be hard. He’s at 55 thru 3

    • WCRon

I will take it back. He may actually go 7 or even 8. Suddenly getting more efficient

  28. RedsGettingBetter

Lodolo got out of the first three frames unscathed but on a high counts so the pitches count is elevated at 57

  29. Gonzo Reds

ESPN suggests Reds trade for Indians Kwan (no thanks) or Braves Ozuna (like that one perfect park for him) to bolster the Offense and OF. Also no to always hurt Buxton!

How about the team I left the Reds for… (thx owner son Phil for telling me to find another team to root for!)… the first place Blue Jays.

  30. Jim Walker

Whoa Nellie! Benson looked lost on that line drive but got his glove up in time for the ball to find it.

The early start shadows seem vexing to everyone.

    • VaRedsFan

That’s Benson in sun or no sun.

  31. RedsGettingBetter

    Is Quantrill pitching well or…?

  32. Roger Garrett

Quantrill is good isn’t he.Averaging around 13/14 pitches an inning and mowing us down.Don’t be confused by that 5.40 ERA.Nick will have to keep putting up zeroes.

  33. Mark Moore

Valiant effort from MattyMc … very much a bang-bang play.

And Trevino picks him up anyway.

  34. I'm 3rd

Steer started out 16 for 92, (.173) and stayed nearly that bad for 200 AB’s. Benson currently 17 for last 85, (.200), Stephenson currently 23 for 101, (.207), McLain 4 for 32. CES currently 7 for 28, (.250) and .246 since coming back from back problem. He started a game and had the audacity to go 0 for 2 against Wheeler, and is benched. 25 year old kid who has NEVER gotten a real chance, like Steer did and McLain still is.

  35. RedsGettingBetter

It woould be wonderful to score a couple of runs in this inning Reds

  36. RedsGettingBetter

I hope 2 runs is enough for Lodolo today

  37. Roger Garrett

First Steer doesn’t make contact then Benson not to be out done does the same.Quantrill is really really good.Down to around 12 pitches per inning now.

  38. docmike

Man. The Reds aren’t exactly beating up on Mr. Quantrill. 5 innings, just 3 hits and 2 runs. And even more, he’s only thrown 62 pitches. I know Doug mentioned how he hadn’t hardly gone past 5 innings at all this year, but it looks like he sure will today.

Yesterday (7 runs) is looking more and more like the outlier.

  39. Roger Garrett

I am awful I know it but this is why the Reds can’t take the next step. Its almost like they see a bomb like Steer hit and everybody else just goes for the downs from that point on.Dude has 5 or is it 6 punch outs and he really is just a bad pitcher.Maybe we get him in the 6th.Good teams bury a pitcher like him and we may yet but our starters for the most part and in most games have no room for error and we are wasting really good starting pitching.

    • JB

Quantrill with a 3.96 ERA in his last 11 starts. He must be doing something right against other teams.

    • Leonard Smalls

I don’t think Quantrill is an especially bad pitcher really, but the problem is your statement that “good teams bury a pitcher like him..”

The 2025 Reds just don’t have enough good hitters to be thought of as a “good team.”

All that said, Quantrill doesn’t usually go this far into games. The Reds could take advantage here.

  40. Leonard Smalls

Zero walks in this game so far.

    • Mark Moore

Yep. That’s a big deal especially given how many high counts Nick ended up in.

  41. Mark Moore

    Solid 6 from Nick.

Nice little flair from Marte to start our half.

  42. Roger Garrett

Qunatriil has set down 14 in a row since Steer homered.

  43. Mark Moore

Nice AB from MattyMc … and they’re sticking with Quantrill to face Elly???

  44. Roger Garrett

Now bust this thing open right now Elly

  45. JB

2nd time where the pitcher didn’t back up and he screwed himself there. Basics dude

    • JB

And they give the error to the right fielder. No way was it his fault.

  46. Mark Moore

Bad move by Quantrill getting a glove on that when he shouldn’t have even been there.

And they are STILL sticking with him … BAFFLING … 😮

  47. RedsGettingBetter

Elly delivers!! 4-0 lead and a big threat

    • DW

Yes! He fits well in Cincy. And should be affordable for the tight purse strings of ownership.

  48. Mark Moore

Need to be careful we don’t get Jobu so blasted drunk that we can’t finish this and we let the weekend slip into jeopardy.

  49. Roger Garrett

Thought earlier we may not want him to reach a high pitch count which is why most of the time starters are pulled.Could pay off for us.

  50. Mark Moore

Perhaps McCollough is second guessing himself about leaving Quantrill in that long?

    Regardless, thanks for doing that.

  51. Roger Garrett

I don’t like the pitch count as the determining factor as to when to pull a pitcher.Teams do and they just live by it because they are much smarter then me..Nick gave up 7 in the 3rd Tuesday and stayed in till the 6th all because of pitch count.Guy can be doing good or keeping his team in the game and pitch count gets him.Quantrill stayed in because of a low pitch count and the Reds made the Marlins pay.Pitch count rules it just does.

    • Mark Moore

Cannot debate that point successfully, Roger. And it’s only going to get tighter.

Full speed and spin rate seem to equal more stress on arms/elbows. It’s how it goes now.

  52. CincyDo

Real pitcher came in with mid 90 FB and sharp slider and guess what, 3 straight strike outs for Reds. Nonetheless, damage has been done. 3 more innings to close out the show.

  53. Mark Moore

Oh Dennis … Ashcraft issued a free pass to his first batter … if you are watching, you need to stop right now!!! 😀

  54. dimondfvr

And Ashcraft immediately walks the first batter and gives up a single!

  55. GPod

I would not have a long leash for Ashcraft….this game is more important than him needing work

  56. Jim Walker

Anybody else old enough to recall how things had a way of going south when Dusty would send in the defensive unit with a lead that *should* have been safe????

    • Jason Franklin

I think you just triggered my anxiety with those memories.

    • JB

Bell was notorious for it. Then he needed Winker or whoever in the 9th and had nobody.

  57. Roger Garrett

Just a final word on pitch count.Tito has said it several times in his post game well we got his pitch count up or they made our guy work and got his pitch count up.Its about the risk of injury of course and its etched in stone around 85-100 and the starter is gone.

  58. Mark Moore

I like Benson. I just do. I think he’s a good RF defender with a cannon of an arm.

    • CI3J

I like Benson as well, but I’m not sure I’d call his arm a cannon. It seems pretty average for an outfielder.

      • Mark Moore

        Maybe I’m mistaken (happens often).

Certainly he’s no Dave Parker out there … 😉

    • Jim Walker

That was a huge play Benson just made. He still struggles at times with routes on deeper balls; but, he has been making some really good plays coming in on balls.

    • Hanginwithem

Also like Benson. Covers the gap really well and is very good coming in on balls in front of him. Makes all the throws he’s supposed to make.

  59. dimondfvr

Great Hustle by Benson. That could have really complicated things even more.

  60. Roger Garrett

My hands both of them just went up.

  61. Mark Moore

Work back to a full count and then lose him???

  62. Jason Franklin

The groundball machine does his job after giving us all a heart attack.

  63. Mark Moore

Need Bike Helmets in the WORST way … and the rabbit pops out of the hat!!!

I was typing, Cowboy was saying it. 😮

  64. RedsGettingBetter

Ashcraft got out of this big jam unscathed but ,come on man, 2 walks with a 6-0 lead is really awful

  65. Roger Garrett

Ashcraft is just so puzzling to me at times.Up six runs in the 7th and you give them free runners knowing that’s probably the only way they can back in the game.At least make them hit the ball.Guys has just great stuff and well.

    • Jason Franklin

I sometimes wonder if it’s either he lacks control/preparedness or just doesn’t go at the hitters the right way? He is a groundball machine though (especially when he was a starter). Maybe he just thinks he needs to fireball everything and not rely on grit/pitching smarts?

      • Roger Garrett

Good points and that last point is a really good one.

    • DW

Yeah I agree. He can be quite puzzling for sure.

On the Jim Day podcast he talked about not knowing where his cutter is going. And how different days and different places it does different things.

That being said, and with a six run lead, if you come out and throw two straight balls with that cutter, maybe the smart thing to do is come back with that high 90’s fastball/sinker that you possess…

  66. CincyDo

Marlins manager made all thr right moves up to this point 🙂 left Quantrill in there until he gave up six runs, then with thr bases loaded he sent in a player to pinch hit only to get a double play from thr pinch hitter. Ha made Francona look brilliant. Someone needs to give Marlins manager free skyline chili for a week.

  67. Roger Garrett

Its a zero in the box score in the 7th for the Marlins but no more of that please.I take way too many pills already.

  68. Jason Franklin

I know Marte is not as good as Espinal as a defender, but at what point are you hurting yourself by pulling Marte with only a couple at-bats in the game for a weak hitter?

I say it’s okay for a defensive change if the score is tight, but not with a 6 run lead.

    • Jason Franklin

Ha. And of course Espinal singles. Maybe I gave him some luck?

    • CenTexRed

Espinal is hitting .333 since Marte has returned to 3B.

It may just be that he does better in a part-time role.

      • Mark Moore

WLW team was talking about that. He hasn’t been a “regular” for a few years.

    • DW

I still agree with you on this Jason. Great time to get Marte work at 3B, with that six run lead, as well as another AB or two.

    • Old-school

I think tito is sending a message to Marte . We love your potential and big bat and speed and you are my starting 3b. Great hit again the other way

But, if you dont want to be pulled in the 8 th inning when we are winning and run prevention is my job as a manager… get better at defense

      Dont tell Richard Fitch please

      Its called accountability

Marte is being held accountable for his defense . Fix it and I wont take you out

      • CenTexRed

Oh….he’ll track you down and find you.

        You can count on that.

He’ll hold you ‘accountable’ for daring to suggest a notion of ‘accountability’.

      • JB

Tito always pulls his worst defender late. Whether it’s CES ,Marte or Lux

      • Melvin

He usually has several to choose from right? 🙂

      • Hanginwithem

Agree with this assessment. It’s Tito’s way of holding players accountable and, clearly, Marte must improve his defense.

  69. Mark Moore

Perfect Espinal role and he yanks one through.

  70. Melvin

I think Sadak might be getting a little frustrated that Sam is talking so much. 😀

  71. Mark Moore

I get using Pagan last night to give him work. But I’m concerned that El Tigre’s arm is going to come flying off yet this season …

  72. RedsGettingBetter

    Another lead-off walk with a 6-0 lead , brutal

  73. DK in Erie PA

If Sam stopped talking for 30 seconds, would his head explode?

  74. Mark Moore

Nice Bike Helmets to erase another BB

  75. Mark Moore

Anybody else loving Cowboy’s story about the ASG and taking a hot shot to his thigh from Andre Dawson?

  76. dimondfvr

Nice to see another double play! Lodolo walks no one in six innings. The Bull pen walks three in two innings!

  77. Andrew Brewer

When I tuned in today and saw the score was 6-0 I thought I was looking at yesterday’s game ! (really) … Santillan gets the GIDP and then a groundout to end the 8th. Lookin’ good for our guys !

  78. Roger Garrett

Tiger’s velo down to 95.Got to believe he never makes it the rest of the season doing what he is now doing.Reds need pen help bad.I don’t know who is or who isn’t available but he threw last night to one batter up 6-1 and now an inning up 6-0.Must be a bunch of guys not available.

  79. Mark Moore

    That’s a TOOTBLAN on Hays … 😮

    • Melvin

If there is a way to get out on the bases our guys will find it won’t they? 🙂

      • GPod

why would you not slide into 2nd at all times (except when rounding the bag on a hit)…if you do not and overrun the bag it’s an automatic out…even if you beat the throw or the guy drops the ball….makes no sense

  80. Roger Garrett

Dennis is back to I believe not checking in till after the game.Seems as if we win more then we lose when he does that.I will be out of here for the next 3 games and maybe longer so hope we win em all.

    • Dennis Westrick

You are CORRECT my friend! It’s a good thing too because my neighbors may have thought a murder was happening if I had been watching and screaming every time a Reds RP issued a WALK with a 6-0 lead!

  81. dimondfvr

I’m sure Sadak hopes to have Larkin back soon! Sadak and LeCure are barely coming up for air! 🙂

    • Melvin

Larkin has one of the easiest jobs in the world. Someone else does all of his talking for him. 🙂

  82. Mark Moore

That may have scored Hays had he been on 2nd

  83. Roger Garrett

Espy in,Joe in but no CES.Guess he will join Hinds soon.

    • GPod

does anyone have a feeling that CES will be traded at some point soon? basically giving up on him here in Cincinnati

      • JB

CES has no business playing over Steer. Steer is going for a gold glove and killing the ball. Saying that, CES should be at least DHing some time and coming in late. Sitting the bench is completely stupid. Send him down and bring somebody else up to sit the bench.

      • Melvin

Yeah. He’s getting into “Hinds territory” in terms on needing to play every day. It’s not doing him or the team any good having him on the bench.

    • JB

CES isn’t going to get any better on the bench.

    • Oldtimer

Espinal and Joe in for defense. Both are experienced MLB players at those (3B and LF) positions.

    • WCRon

He can’t field. So why would he be in

  84. Mark Moore

OK, 3 quick outs and then my evening with First Wife continues. Have Jeopardy recorded and a couple other shows we watch ready to queue up. 5:10 start worked almost as well as an afternoon game … maybe better given my meeting schedule today.

  85. Andrew Brewer

Barlow to close ! Francona is feeling confident today…

    • Andrew Brewer

2 down, nothin’ but Junk from Barlow …

  86. JB

Tito loves Barlow as much as Santillan. How in God’s name didn’t Nick pull the trigger and get Baker from the Orioles. Does he even watch this bullpen.

    • Melvin

I’m convinced we need an outside guy to replace Krall who is more objective about our “prospects” and our roster in general.

      • JB

I was thinking the same today. He is afraid to pull the trigger and possibly losing the trade.

      • Melvin

He seemingly has a very hard time letting go of ANY player especially during the season and especially prospects.

  87. dimondfvr

Yes. The Bull pen needs some shut down relievers!

  88. Mark Moore

First base ump is ready to be done.

  89. CI3J

    Seriously?

Tito is changing pitchers with 2 outs and a 6 run lead?

    • CenTexRed

After last night, he may have wanted to preserve the shutout. 😉

  90. Andrew Brewer

Must be a match up thing. Barlow gets two strikeouts after a walk, and on comes Sam Moll …

    • Andrew Brewer

Who gets a fly ball to end it ! Nice win for the home team !

  91. GPod

really 6-0….one out needed….a pitching change….when did Bell take over for Tito?

  92. Roger Garrett

KInd of glad for Dennis today cause each pen piece walked the first batter they faced.May have blown a gasket if he had been with us.Dude is right though it must be mandatory that you walk the first batter you face.Gone for now.Hope to be back soon.GO REDS

    • Dennis Westrick

Four Reds RPs issued 4 walks in a 6-0 game! Two of those walks issued by GA! Good grief!

      • Oldtimer

Jim Maloney averaged 4 walks per 9 IP as a Red. He must have really been lousy.

  93. JB

Maybe somebody will ask Tito about CES. Doubt it

  94. CincyDo

Kinda a must win game and we won. Set up a promising finish before ASG.

  95. Dennis Westrick

Glad for the win and the great outing by Lodolo!

What is it with the Reds RPs issuing WALKS when they enter the game with a 6-0?

My self-imposed exile from watching the live game will continue at great personal sacrifice for the good of the team!

    • DW

I support your self-imposed exile, Dennis. Just can’t argue with the results we are seeing! 🙂

    • CincyDo

Take one for the team Dennis. You can watch Cardinals game and Padres game but cheer for Washington and Diamondbacks. Good scoreboard watching.

      • Dennis Westrick

Been doing A LOT of scoreboard watching lately! The problem with ESPN or the MLB Network is that they generally only show games with the NY teams or the LA Dodgers, all of which I despise!

    • CenTexRed

I’m sure your question about Reds BP issuing walks to the first batter they see must be a rhetorical question.

That’s been a tradition in Cincinnati for at least a decade.

      Or longer.

Kind of like offering some Skyline Chili to an out of town house guest.

It comes more of surprise when they don’t walk the first batter.

      • Dennis Westrick

I do love me some Skyline chili!

  96. I'm 3rd

CES getting raw deal, as usual. I’m sure the Dbacks, Yankees and Red Sox wish he wouldn’t have played against them.

  97. Oldtimer

Six shutout innings by SP and three shutout innings by bullpen. Despite all the advice or predictions to the contrary above.

Let the players play and the manager manage. Fans should watch and root/cheer.

    • Dennis Westrick

Agree with all that except for the watch part! I will continue my viewing sabbatical as long as the Reds keep winning! The last time I did this the Reds won 4 in row!
