Chase Burns

In his debut last week, Chase Burns looked good even though he was charged with three earned runs in his five innings pitched. Tonight he’ll make his first road start of his big league career.

Garrett Crochet

Arguably the best pitcher in the American League this season, Garrett Crochet has been outstanding as he’s leading the league in innings and has a 2.06 ERA. In only two of his 17 starts this season has he allowed more than two earned runs. Once was in his third start of the year and the last time was earlier this month against the Yankees. Over his last three starts he’s allowed two total earned runs while throwing 21.1 innings and striking out 25 batters.

The splits tell us a lot of what was above – Crochet has been really good this year. Left-handed hitters rarely get a chance to face him, but when they do we find out why. They aren’t hitting for average, drawing any walks, nor are they hitting for any power. Righties aren’t doing much better – though they are doing a bit better in each category.

we will need some kind of production out of 7-8-9 tonight to be successful. if nothing else just working counts, driving up pitch counts, maybe a couple extra base runners.

  2. CI3J

Another chance for the Reds to move more than 4 games over .500.

Will they finally break through that glass ceiling tonight?

And boy, what a start to Chase Burns’ career. His first game is pitching at home to the mighty New York Yankees, and his second game is pitching in the legendary Fenway Park against the BoSox. No “easing in” for this rookie.

    • Jason T.

Would be amazing to finally crack ceiling and push to 5 games above .500.

Burns has had 2 extremely tough draws in his first 2 starts. That’s for sure.

  3. Jason T.

    Congrats to Steer, well deserved!
Let’s get some run support for Burns. Tough draw going against Crochet.

  4. Votto4life

It may be a tough go tonight against Crochet, but hope springs eternal. Also, I am excited to see Burns pitch again.

  5. Hanginwithem

Hays has enjoyed good production in his career at Fenway. Trevino has also hit well there in 50 ABs. He’ll be a solid option off the bench. Burns gets another shot of adrenaline pitching in Beantown. Go, Reds! Wear out the Green Monster!

    • Beaufort Red

That’s why Trevino, among many reasons, should be starting

  6. GreatRedLegsFan

The Central Division is getting more competitive as time goes by, ESPN power ranking has the Cubs 4th, Brewers 10th, Cards 11th and Reds 15th this week.

    • Jason T.

Even the Pirates are 16-15 since Kelly took over including the 3 game sweep of the Mets. Central has been ultra competitive.

      • Jason T.

Scratch that, they’re 23-24 under Kelly. Still more competitive than under Shelton.

      • CLTRedsFan

In the last couple of weeks the Pirates have swept the Phillies and Mets at PNC Park. They won 2 of 3 against the Reds there as well. I guess teams have a collective mental letdown going into Pittsburgh and figure it’ll be an easy series. Unfortunately the Reds have suffered the last few seasons in September thinking that way and embarrassed themselves. Always respect your opponents.

  7. RedsGettingBetter

I think Chase Burns was practically a 2-pitch guy against the Yankees so that helped in the first trip through the power NY lineup but when he went to face for the 2nd time things were harder. He threw his curveball 1% and changeup below 10% in that first major league outing. Burns should mix a little more to have success going deeper in the game. Maybe he will show more confidence in his repertoire tonight

  8. JayTheRed

I didn’t get to see Burns first game but hoping he can go 5 or 6 solid innings again at least.

  9. Mark Moore

Way to go Steer … you deserve it!!

Focus, Young Master Burns. You are their master and can bend them to your will … 😐

Let’s smash that Green Monster hard and often and Kick This Pig!!!

  10. Ahimsa

Pulling for Hinds to have a good game.

  11. Mark A Verticchio

It won’t be easy but I would love to see Burns lead the way and finally get this team 5 games over .500.

  12. Indy Red Man

Watched the beginning of SD/Philly on MLB Network. SD was 1-25 with risp in Cincinnati. Wheeler is something else….consistently 97-100 mph for how many years now? 1677 career ip and still going strong!

  13. Indy Red Man

We beat Crochet last year, but he’s good. Better catch a fastball before he gets 2 strikes on you. We take so many right down the middle early? Working the pitcher is fine, but not when they’re really good.

    Took Burns 6+ Ks & Yankees/Jays to score 2+ each (+125)

  14. Mark Moore

    I’m losing it as I age … 😮

I could swear the Gameday pre-game line-up had Hays in RF and Lux at DH. With Steer in LF I was thinking, “That’s a challenging OF setup”. I just hope Steer manages the Monster well tonight. It’s hard when you don’t play 82 games a year there. I hope he can smack a couple of Harvey Wallbangers as well!! 😀

  15. CincyDo

I think Burns can get away with using 2 pitches because Boston does not have a strong line up, but for his development he needs to consistently features the change up. Tj, Elly, and Steer need to provide some offense. Let’s take the first game.

    • SteveAReno

“Not a strong line-up” and the first few innings will be so easy.

    • doofus

What was that about Boston not having a strong lineup?

  16. Dennis Westrick

Besides the LF wall, the biggest monster the Reds face tonight is the best pitcher in the AL. AND he’s a lefty to boot which has been the Reds kryptonite!

Hoping Burns pitches well again! Tempering my hope for a win and just hoping for a low scoring competitive game!

Fenway Park is still on my bucket list to see a game, but I will settle tonight with a consolation prize in a Reds win!

  17. Oldtimer

Reds are 91 OPS+ and 119 ERA+ as a team so far. 100 is average in both categories.

  18. RedlegScott

You’re trapped in a room with a lion, a rattlesnake, and a Red Sox fan. You have a gun with two bullets. What should you do? A: Shoot the Redsox fan twice.

    • Mark Moore

      +10,000 😀

As a kid in NY’s Southern Tier, the Elmira tea was the Pioneer Red Sox. Saw a few games at Dunn Field.

  19. Mark Moore

Ugly start. TJ smacked it hard but it’s a long way to that notch.

OK, let’s get this done, Chase.

  20. RedsGettingBetter

What a first inning by Crochet…Reds hitters looked confused

  21. Jason T.

Come on McLain. That can’t happen.

  22. CincyDo

I am dead wrong. Burns does need to throw the change up to get out of this first inning predicament.

  23. Dennis Westrick

Once again, the Reds defense is NOT helping their SP! This could get ugly quickly!

  24. GPod

this game is trending as being over early…the error was a killer

  25. RedsGettingBetter

This game could be over in this first inning… Misfortune a bit but have been hard contacts

  26. Dennis Westrick

Gonna take a lot of scoreless innings for Burns to get his ERA back down to “normal”!

  27. RedAlert

Ballgame – thanks McClain ! Awesome throw

  28. dimondfvr

Ouch. Turn out the lights, the party’s over!

  29. Mark Moore

I’m thinking it’s gonna be an early Clete for me tonight. Hope this doesn’t rock Burns’ confidence too much. We should have been out of the inning by now.

  30. GPod

Burns is finding out this is not the minor leagues anymore

  31. CincyDo

Ouch. Sliders and fastballs so far. Smh

  32. RedsGettingBetter

Burns has been really crushed right now especially the slider…Really batting practice…I hate watch this start of this series

  33. VaRedsFan

Cue the the RLN guys saying Burns isn’t ready…send him back.

    • Mark Moore

It’s a hard lesson on a pretty big stage. Tito knows this park well. I hate to see him get shelled, but sometimes you have to barf up a lung in order to learn.

I’ll keep him in The Show at this point.

      • Melvin

“sometimes you have to barf up a lung in order to learn”

        I hope not. haha

    • Jason T.

Crazy inning swing thanks to McLain and his throwing error. Should have been a double play.
This is baseball. Happens to the best of them. Some nights it just goes that way.

I do find it interesting that people slam Petty after what, 2 starts in MLB, as a 22 year old? Some fans don’t reside in reality.

  34. Dennis Westrick

No Monday Night Football so I guess I’ll have to watch the replay of the US Men’s Team soccer win from last night!

  35. GPod

I thought Boston was supposed to have trouble scoring runs?

  36. Andrew Brewer

I haven’t seen anything like this except for the Reds scoring 10 in the first this year … What a barrage by Boston ! It’s 6-0 with only 1 out…

  37. CI3J

I took the over on this game, because I had a feeling teams would come up with a plan for Burns after seeing him pitch against the Yankees.

    7.5 is the line.

I didn’t think they’d almost get there in the 1st inning.

Burns needed this. It’s a learning experience, a real “Welcome to the show, rookie.” kind of moment.

Hope he learns and get stronger because of this.

  38. SR

I think he is tipping his pitches. The Sox know what’s coming.

    • CLTRedsFan

Red Sox radio broadcast team believe Burns is tipping his pitches because of all the hard contact by the Boston batters.

    • doofus

Some of these Sox youngsters have probably faced Burns in the minors.

  39. Mark A Verticchio

This is an awful inning and a lot is on Mclain. If he is going to hit like he has he can’t make those type of errors. Reds need to win at least one in this series.

  40. dimondfvr

We can only hope the Red Sox will tire themselves out! 🙂

  41. RedlegScott

Burns only throwing two pitches. That won’t work. Deja vu early Hunter Greene all over again.

    • CI3J

Not to mention, early Johnny Cueto, early Homer Bailey, etc.

Fireballers seem to always experience this, because they can overpower minor leaguers with pure stuff.

Then they get to MLB and suddenly almost everyone can hit their fastball.

That’s when they have that “Ok, I need to learn how to really PITCH.” epiphany.

Hope Burns takes this lesson and it helps motivate him to evolve to the next stage.

      • RedlegScott

Shouldn’t someone have told him to get a third pitch or even a fourth by now?

      • Oldtimer

Jim Maloney pitched out of the bullpen in 1960 and 1961. He wasn’t ready as a starter in 1962 so he was sent down to AAA to start the season. He came back better and then was Reds ace from 1963 to 1969.

  42. GPod

well this can screw up your pitching for the rest of the series

  43. Roger Garrett

Boston running up 6-0.Talk about stepping on a teams throat.May do us some good or may not. They came out ready to play and we could say we didn’t so far.Interesting to see how we respond as a team.

  44. RedsGettingBetter

Now the bullpen should cover all the game…really bad to start this series , I unexpected this really…

  45. Dennis Westrick

Just wondering how long Tito will let Burns get pummeled!

  46. Doc

Perhaps the push to extend Burns was a bit premature.

    • CenTexRed

Perhaps snarky comments about a fictional ‘push’ to extend Burns are premature.

      • JB

It’s amazing the level of stupidity on here. Once again I come for the laughs

  47. Jeremiah

Boy humbling outing for Burns. I think he’ll be fine overall. Will be curious how he responds against Philly later this weekend.

  48. Andrew Brewer

Suter comes on to face Duran after Boston bats around… What a stunning start for Burns !

    • Andrew Brewer

In his first outing he struck out the side and looked dominant, but he did give up 3 runs while pitching 5. It looked like the Red Sox knew what he was throwing.

  49. Mark A Verticchio

Not the way they wanted to start this key week of baseball. I was hoping for at least a .500 trip. That will be awful tough now.

    • Dennis Westrick

Gotta find a way to win at least one of the two remaining games in Boston and steal one of the three games in Philly! Will enable the Reds to finish the road trip two games above .500!

  50. GreatRedLegsFan

Well, it didn’t go as planned…

  51. GPod

well, when Burrow gets the ball, we just need to drive down the field and get this thing tied up before halftime

  52. Indy Red Man

Ouch. Milw new guy has given up 3 hits in 16 innings, but he’s a year older then Burns. Keep running him out there and he’ll figure it out. HG been injury prone really hurts though. Our rotation is the only thing thats supposed to give us a chance. Problem is they’ve been winning 2 of 3 for weeks and still 9th in the NL

    • Jason T.

Misiorowski has been outstanding so far.

  53. RedsGettingBetter

This is the worst season first inning by the Reds pitching so far

    • Mark A Verticchio

I believe if they turn that double play, or even gotten one, things might have been different. I am so disgusted with Mclain this year.

      • doofus

I am proud of Matt McLain. He is battling back from an injury that sidelined him all year last season. After a slow start he is battling back and producing.

After a slow start he still hangs in there in front of tens of thousands of folks almost every night. Who among us has faced diversity like that?

  54. RedlegScott

Well, we certainly have our work cut out for us, don’t we?

  55. Andrew Brewer

If Boston blows us out today, they will have trouble putting up runs tomorrow. It’s just one game…

  56. RedlegScott

I’ll say this again. How is Burns out there with only two pitches in his repertoire? Where’s the coaching to get him a third or even a fourth?

    • Andrew Brewer

Hunter Greene was pretty much in the same boat, two pitches. It’s amazing how well Big League hitters can hit a 99 mph heater … and if not, they can catch up to a slider.

      • CenTexRed

Sliders down and away seem to be the bane of young Reds’ hitters.

  57. Roger Garrett

It’s a stinker but starting pitching has been our strength and it will continue. How far this team goes is strictly up to improvements at the plate and in the pen.Just one game tonight. No worries about the starting pitching unless more injuries occur.

  58. GPod

I can see it’s gonna take some time for Hays to get back to doing damage at the plate…he looks no where near he was earlier in the year

  59. Mark A Verticchio

I don’t think the Red’s can be considered series contenders until they can get 5 games over and that isn’t going to happen this week.

  60. Tom Reeves

Just tuning in – did Burns tip his pitches?

  61. Votto4life

Tonight was going to be a tough assignment going against Crochet. The Reds will bounce back tomorrow.

  62. SteveAReno

This is when we must have our middle relievers pitch a minimum of three innings. This reliance on one inning 15 pitch arms is frustrating.

  63. CLTRedsFan

Before the start of this 3 game series I thought this would be the most difficult to win because the Reds were facing a very good lefty in Crochet. Just hate that Burns had an extremely difficult outing. Unfortunately the leadoff walk and the error by McLain led to a catastrophic inning. Still got 8 at bats to peck away at the deficit. Going to be challenging but after 57 years of listening to MLB games every once and a while a miraculous comeback occurs!! Just call me Cleteless John Jackson!!

    • Tom Diesman

Keep up the good work Clete-less John Jackson! After all Cleters are quitters!

  64. Mark A Verticchio

I think the Red’s might consider pitching Singer Sunday on regular rest and save Burns until after the break while bringing up another bull pen arm. They won’t need a 5th starter until the 22nd and maybe Greene will be ready by then.

    • Mark A Verticchio

My mistake missed a whole week.

  65. Jeremiah

From GameDay, it looked like the Red Sox had some good longer at-bats against Burns. The Mclain error really hurt, but got to give the Red Sox hitters some credit too. Still a bit shocking but now we’ll really see if Burns is ready for the Majors with how he responds next outing I think.

  66. Andrew Brewer

Espinal with the best struck ball against Crochet tonight … Still for naught.

    • Tom Diesman

Friedl and Hinds both had better hit balls before that.

  67. Mark A Verticchio

I worry about getting a hit tonight, let alone a run. This team is not built to overcome bad starts.

    • Tom Diesman

You should start following the Reds.

      • RedAlert

Tom wins troll of the comment section tonight …being a first class jerk

  68. dimondfvr

Suter dseserves kudos for cooling the Red Sox bats and retiring seven in a row.

  69. CincyDo

This is why I said I would take Myley over any young pitchers and took a lot of heat from RLN. I think Burns will be a good pitcher once he adds a 3rd pitch. All he needs to do is use Ashcraft as a lesson learned.

    • DaveCT

Burns has four pitches. There is a growing thing that he only has two (just went through this over on RML). If you’ve watched him over the course of the season, he throws all four.

Burns, like many, starts with the fastball and slider, then works in the change and curve. Some might be making a conclusion based on 5 plus innings. It is incorrect.

  70. JB

Well there goes the no hitter. Thank God. This cat can pitch.

  71. Andrew Brewer

McLain breaks up Crochet’s roll with a Double !

  72. Mark Moore

Tricky notch even if you play there regularly.

At least we’re not getting blanked tonight.

  73. SR

I guess some folks didn’t read your comment the first time. Watched him pitch in AAA and he does have a great, moving change up. And a 12-6 curve too.
He has yet to get his fastball over at the top of the zone in either start but that will get better.
Only one takeaway from this. A team of Reds coaches need to go in a room, watch video and not come out until they figure out what the Sox already know. If they don’t the word will get around fast.

  74. CenTexRed

Hays foot looks like it’s feeling better.

  75. Andrew Brewer

And wham bam, the Reds are on the board … Triple by Hays !

  76. Roger Garrett

Reds are not rolling over and I love that.Great to see for sure.

  77. JB

Surprised they didn’t get Hays at home.

  78. Jason T.

Nice to score some Runs. Some nice hitting this inning.

  79. dimondfvr

Can we do it!? Three runs scored against crochet. Any of you havea rabbit in a hat in case we need it!?

    • Dennis Westrick

      Love rabbit! Tastes like chicken!

  80. Andrew Brewer

Reds got a little rally of their going tonight !

  81. GPod

i am always looking for Hinds to do damage early in the count, cause when he gets 2 strikes, you just know something with a wrinkle in it is coming & he ain’t hittin it

  82. Mark A Verticchio

Give credit where credit is due, the team didn’t quit.

  83. CincyDo

Has Hinds given this team anything?

  84. GPod

Espinal does not give you much at the plate….but that man can play 3rd with the best of em

  85. Dennis Westrick

Well, well, well! There went the no-hitter and the shutout!

  86. Andrew Brewer

I don’t know Joe La Sorsa, but he got a GIDP to end Boston’s 4th …

  87. dimondfvr

CES and Hinds must use the same batting instructor.

  88. Mark Moore

I made the difficult decision to put the game on the TV complete with WLW audio …

I’m wearing my City Connect t-shirt for whatever that’s worth.

Need a little luck (like that one for Espy) and string together more hits.

  89. JB

Gave Espy an error? Wth that was a single

  90. CincyDo

Reds need to use the running game to put pressure on Crochet and steam a couple runs.

    • CincyDo

Steal a couple runs or avoid double play.

  91. Andrew Brewer

Holy smokes, the Reds are at it again in the 5th !

    • Andrew Brewer

But one is all they’ll get .

  92. Mark Moore

A little ambushing might pay off.

    • Dennis Westrick

Just keep chipping away at the lead! One run an inning will work assuming the Reds BP can hold the fort!

  93. Mark Moore

Elly fell out of the box and it’s a GIDP. That’s some BAD luck.

OK, hold ’em and then do it again.

    • CincyDo

Yep, can BP hold ‘em a couple more innings, see what offense can do.

  94. RedsGettingBetter

Bad luck, Elly slipped when he batted maybe it would be hard to make the double play

    • Mark Moore

Yeah … I think he beats the throw if he doesn’t slip. It was slower developing from what I saw.

  95. Dennis Westrick

Another killer GIDP from Elly! Drat!

    • Mark Moore

He slipped … that happens sometimes.

      • Dennis Westrick

Thanks! Wasn’t watching at the time!

  96. RedAlert

Clown show defense in full effect now

  97. RedsGettingBetter

Uh please Steer, after Reds managed to get close in the game…you can’t misplay that fly…

    • VaRedsFan

Lost it in the twilight sky.

      If you know, you know.

      • Tom Diesman

They don’t know just need something to whine about.

    • Mark Moore

Welsh explained it well if you aren’t listening to WLW. The ball was above the light standards and the light’s aren’t fully “on” in the twilight sky. Easy to lose a ball like that. I’ll cut Steer a break this time.

  98. Dennis Westrick

Gave one run back but there’s still time! Scoring 4 runs off Crochet is noteworthy if nothing else!

  99. Mark Moore

Kind of a creepy shot of that arm tat and armpit hair … 😮

    Nice blast from Hays.

  100. CincyDo

Hays doing Hays things. Steer does not hit unless he’s in the 6th spot.

  101. GPod

Hinds jsut doing the same thing over & over

    • Beaufort Red

Hines same thing every time. Two strikes than a breaking . Way too easy. I’d rather see Benson hit against left handers or Joe when he’s well.

  102. RedAlert

Gotta get Strand outta this lineup… dude couldn’t hit it in the Atlantic Ocean if he was standing on the shoreline and the ball was on a tee ….

    • Tom Diesman

Don’t count on MLB scout as a career path you’ll be disappointed.

      • Richard D Fitch

Tom, when the Reds are losing, this comment section is a psychiatrist’s dream.

      • RedAlert

Oh that’s rich Tom …. Never claimed to be close to one … watched CES enough thru minors and now to know that it’s not translating for him at this level

      • Tom Diesman

May you have a quick recovery from SSSD.

  103. RedlegScott

Who previously stated that the bottom of the order could be critical in this game? C’mon, guys!

  104. Andrew Brewer

I wasn’t expecting La Sorsa for a 3rd inning in the 6th … and there it goes , Reds now down by 4 .

      • RedAlert

Must be you … I can’t stand St. Louis
Reds fan all my life thru thick and thin

  105. alex

behind the plate ump isn’t helping. way more generous to crochet tonight

  106. Magi210

Hinds is starting to look like Cerrano from Major League. Can’t hit the curve ball.

    • Mark Moore

Reminds me that I should watch “Trouble With The Curve”. Eastwood did a great job and, of course, Amy Adams was Amy Adams.

      • Dennis Westrick

Matthew Lillard was a real jerk in that movie as a baseball executive! He also played a baseball player in another baseball movie The Summer Catch!

  107. RedsGettingBetter

It’s hard to come back while you got LaSorsa pitching through 3 innings… was the towel thown since the first by Tito just to save the bullpen?

    • Richard D Fitch

You can’t treat every game like it’s Game 7. The season is too long. You guys blamed Bell for not finishing seasons well, but want Francona to do whatever it takes to win each night’s game even if means burning out a pitching staff by August.

      Makes no sense.

  108. Dennis Westrick

Can’t keep trading runs! Need 3 shutout innings from the Reds bullpen!

  109. Dennis Westrick

Now pitching, Conner Phillips! “Hold on to your butts”!

  110. CincyDo

C’mon. Top of line up with Espinal on base.

  111. Indy Red Man

I love the fight in the boys tonight, but we’re not going anywhere with this pen. If HG was coming back next week and they could move guys around, but thats not happening. Tito needs a couple of arms…now. Krall pays Candy when we didn’t need 1B/DH, then when we need help he does nothing.

  112. Roger Garrett

Reds have shown me something tonight. They could have rolled over and they didn’t.Bodes well knowing they put up 5 against a very very good pitcher. He is not a scrub he is as ace.Good job.

    • Tom Diesman

Yep. Totally agree. Al Cy Young candidate with a 6.00 ERA for today’s game. Good job by the Reds against a tough lefty.

    • WCRon

I totally agree. Every team has bad days. But they are showing heart which is very encouraging

  113. Andrew Brewer

Reds with another scoring opportunity here in the 7th … and Elly just worked a walk.

    • Andrew Brewer

Well we had the guy up who’s been smokin’ today … but nothing doing in the 7th.

  114. VaRedsFan

It would be cool if Hays could go ahead and get the double out of the way here.

  115. Dennis Westrick

That may have been the last chance for the Reds tonight!

    • Tom Diesman

Sounds like something a clever would say.

  116. Mark Moore

Good challenge … so much dirt in the way but he was out.

  117. Dennis Westrick

Phillips at only 10 pitches thru 1-1/3rd innings! I say send him back to the mound to start the 8th inning!

  118. VaRedsFan

It’s good that Phillips is getting a lower leverage chance tonight.
    4 outs in 10 pitches.

  119. RedsGettingBetter

Steer in a bad night today…After a great series against Padres…

  120. GPod

apparently that 1st baseman for Boston cannot make a catch at 1st without falling over

  121. Mark Moore

A little here, a little there … what might have been.

Good job by the boyz coming back as far as they did. One more inning, but it would take quite the miracle now.

Done commenting … unless there is that miracle … still watching.

  122. RedsGettingBetter

Pirates routing Cards 7-0 in top of 7th

  123. CincyDo

We certainly have had opportunities. It’s hard to rely on hits to come back from 7-0. Francona needed to force the issue with running game and he didn’t. Boston didn’t give us any freebies either. Gallant effort nonetheless. Never give up.

  124. Dennis Westrick

Wonder when the last game was that Boston had 9 runs and 13 hits?

    • Tom Diesman

Well wait for a full report while you look it up.

      • Dennis Westrick

That was a rhetorical question, Doofy! Want me to define that big word for you?

      • Tom Diesman

Yes please do. And while you’re at it please do a little research on pitch counts for SP to bring some more realistic content to the site. Thanks!

  125. Andrew Brewer

Connor has ’em loaded with one out in the 8th …

    • Andrew Brewer

And there goes a Grand Salami, after a three pitch strike out …

  126. Dennis Westrick

That’s it for me campers! Hopefully a better result tomorrow!

    • Tom Diesman

Cleters are quitters. See you later.

      • Dennis Westrick

F-you! Whoever you are! I have followed the Reds since before you were born! Through the good, the bad and the ugly! It’s my prerogative to decide when to exit this site!

      • RedAlert

Tom being a complete troll the entire comment section … you win jerk of the evening dude

      • Tom Diesman

Thanks for the compliment @RedAlert. We’ll come back and get them tomorrow.

      • Doug Gray

Dennis, this will be your only warning for the language.

      • Doug Gray

Tom, there’s a lot of posting by you in here that is reading like you just want to be a pain in everyone’s butt and want to start arguments.

        Don’t do that.

      • Tom Diesman

@Doug Gray. My apologies, I’ll do the best I can to be more positive in regards to the Reds.

    • Richard D Fitch

      Come back! I’m making espresso!

  127. GPod

Phillips put that ball right in a left-hand batters wheel-house, down and in, and a good major league batter did exactly what he should do with it….crushed it

    • Tom Diesman

98.6 low and in. Tip of the cap to the hitter. Was a great pitch.

  128. Andrew Brewer

Yeah, but the Reds didn’t just lie down after the first. They got to Crochet in 4th for 3, and 1 in the next too. I think Tito wanted them to run up the score to give us a better shot tomorrow. Really. After the 7th though the Reds were done offensively.

    • Andrew Brewer

And Trevino gets the last out with a K – pitching in the 8th !

  129. Andrew Brewer

CES battling like I never saw him before … Singles to lead off the Reds’ ninth.

  130. Roger Garrett

Yes and the guy was bringing it at 99 and CES singles on the 9th pitch of the at bat in a 13-5 blow out.

    • Andrew Brewer

And that’s the ol’ ball game. Reds take the loss, 13-6.

      We’ll be back tomorrow !

  131. RedsGettingBetter

This game has been horrible at the start and at the end but the Reds play good in the middle of it

    • Andrew Brewer

There’s always something awesome about a Grand Slam, even if it’s by the other team… Today’s loss was on the pitching.

  132. Tom Diesman

It wasn’t the Reds night but they fought hard. This is a fun and talented team to watch.

  133. RedsGettingBetter

Hope the Red Sox hit all they was going to hit in this series just today …Now Reds should pass the page and come back tomorrow to look for a win

    • Tom Diesman

Exactly. Every day is a new day in baseball.
