Last night a bunch of rain fell at Great American Ball Park, but in between two separate storms, there was some baseball played. The Reds topped the Twins 4-2 in a rain-shortened game. Today Cincinnati will go for the sweep over Minnesota in the final game of their 3-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:40pm ET.

Nick Martinez

After a slow start to the season, Nick Martinez had turned things around for the end of April and all of May. But in June he’s struggled in two of his three outings. The last time out he allowed four runs in 5.0 innings in Detroit.

The splits against Martinez this season aren’t that big. Right-handed hitters and left-handed hitters are basically the same against him when it comes to average and on-base percentage. There’s a small difference in power output where righties have a slight edge.

Chris Paddack

In his first start of the season Chris Paddock allowed nine runs in 3.1 innings. Then over his next 12 starts he posted a 2.51 ERA. His last outing, though, was another clunker as he gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs in 4.0 innings to Houston.

The splits against Paddock this year favor right-handed hitters. They have a higher average and have hit for a bit more power. Lefties are making far more contact, but it’s not doing anything for them as they are hitting worse across the board. Not shown below is that Paddack’s ERA on the road is 5.27 (3.03 at home).

Elly De La Cruz is on fire

Elly de la Cruz is on fire, hitting .333/.435/.718 (205 wRC+) with a sub-20% strikeout rate over his last 92 PAs.

Zone contract rate is near career low (75%), but plate discipline is at a career best, allowing for more OOZ contact (laying off worse pitches) and fewer free strikes.

Chase Burns gets it done again

On Wednesday, Chase Burns allowed one run over 7.0 innings in his second start in Triple-A. That lowered his ERA on the season to 1.77. Over at RedsMinorLeagues.com we did a deeper look at his outing and a few things stood out. You can read all about it here if that’s something you are interested in.

    Line-up looks solid. Let’s get a ‘W’ for Nick.

  2. RedsGettingBetter

It would be ideal to have Hays back against the Yankees but given time he’s been out I don’t know if he will be on rehab assignment before …

  3. Roger Garrett

Good news on Marte and Hayes.

  4. GreatRedLegsFan

In: Candelario, Out: Hampson. In: Hays, Out: Joe. In: Marte, Out: ???

    • Kevin Patrick

In: Candelario- Out: Joe (optioned) In: Hays- Out: Hampson In: Marte- Out: Candelario.

      • Indy Red Man

Bring Candy back for 2 weeks? I like it, but $15 mil/year says thats unlikely

      • old-school

@ Indy, prior to Candy getting hurt, he was already benched by Tito. Reds have proven they will DFA players with a year left on the contract but not with 1.5 years left. He will be an expensive bench bat and occasional starter. I could see the Reds DFA’ing Candy in the off-season and eating his last year and also non-tendering Jake fraley in his final arb year.

But both players will be on the 26 man for the duration of 2025 when healthy.

  5. Indy Red Man

Fraley has been hot, but Tito has the magic touch lately. I’d rather see Joe in the lineup over Espy and Lux can play 3B, but atleast CES is back in and has a chance to right the ship. He’s a bad ball hacker and thats the way it is, but if he can start connecting on early pitches before they get him down 0-2, 1-2 then he can be a force!

    • Dennis Westrick

Agree with your take on CES! Can somebody, anybody on the Reds coaching staff tell CES to not swing at balls outside the strike zone that you couldn’t hit with a surf board?

  6. Redgoggles

With a decision on Candy coming shortly, I wonder if CES is the first man out? He really needs to work on his chase rate, which is better done at AAA than with the Reds who are trying to win this year. Sure, his power is enticing…..once or twice a week he may run into a mistake pitch, but his ceiling is considerably higher if he learns to lay off more pitches and/or change his approach to game situations/counts. Steer’s on deck, at least before he went oppo with the HR last night.

I think this is the major issue with Hinds as well. We don’t need to trade the occasional pop for holes in the lineup. I felt the same way with McClain for much of this season, but he has started laying off the high cheese and hitting the ball the other way generating recent optimism that he’s shaking off the dust from being out a year. Plus he brings value the others don’t with speed/D.

If we worry about a fully healthy roster – and I’ll believe it when I see it – I think they need to decide on whether they are keeping Fraley or Benson longer term and trade the other one for BP help by the deadline. While they are different players, they are kind of redundant in that neither plays well against LHP. That roster spot can go to Hinds, when he’s ready to play every day at the major league level (getting his chase rate down too) or include him in a trade package as a toolsy prospect (Willy Mo Aquino) for more BP help which is the biggest weakness of this team at the moment.

    • JB

CES isn’t going to see the pitches he needs to lay off of in the minors. That’s why he kills AAA pitching.

  7. Dennis Westrick

OK Ladies & Gents! “The Streak” is still alive! I have purposely not watched any portion of the Reds last 4 games! And, thanks to last night’s rainout, the winning streak now stands at 4!

I am at work today so obviously cannot watch today’s final game of the 3-game series with Minnesota!

Let’s score a bunch of runs early and let Nick M. be great! Go Reds!

    • Tomn

Are you personally responsible for Buxton continuing to Homer on pitch #1!! 😉

  8. CincyDo

Like to see EDLC bounce back right away and have good ABs today. It’s hard to sweep, unless your super star steps up.

  9. RedsGettingBetter

Wow it can’t be possible , they don’t learn the lesson

  10. Roger Garrett

CES are both 25 and bring needed power to the team but lets not forget they are not just homer or nothing else. Both can run.CES first to third the other night and then scores on a wild pitch. He also can pick it at first and is a big target over there.Hinds can run and throw to go along with his power and can play all 3 outfield spots.Neither are just on trick ponies and we often overlook that.

  11. chris

how many 1st inning home runs are the Reds going to give up to Buxton?!

  12. RedsGettingBetter

Back-to-back game lead-off homer by Buxton… back-to-back game lead-off homer gave up by Martinez

  13. Roger Garrett

Three and counting but lets just win the game. You know he has always had the talent but has always been prone to injuries.Of course he might hit 30 at GABP in 100 games or less.

  14. Dennis Westrick

Everybody knows that the most dangerous batter in the Twins lineup is Buxton! So, what does Nick do, he serves him up a meatball! With a 2-strike count no less!

  15. RedsGettingBetter

Friedl has been brilliant as lead-off hitter

  16. Roger Garrett

Surprising Lux didn’t just hit a little grounder to his pull side to move Friedl

    • Tom Mitsoff

Agreed. I was surprised as well. Presumably he was trying to pull, but couldn’t get it done.

  17. RedsGettingBetter

Wow! Steer! this is kind of familiar as yesterday

  18. Indy Red Man

Friedl to score a run $. Parlay w over 8.5 too. Big 2 out hits!

  19. Tom Mitsoff

There are many things that have changed with this team in the past two-plus weeks, and two-out clutch hitting is absolutely one of them.

  20. Roger Garrett

Two out hits win games just like on Monday night.

  21. Mark A Verticchio

Nice comeback by the Reds 2 games in a row.

  22. Jason T.

Really nice to see clutch hits by Stephenson and Steer. Getting those runs in is huge. Amazing our 1st inning performances all season long.

  23. RedlegScott

Settle in and get it done, Nick.

  24. CincyDo

My observation is that most Reds players are better off when hitting in early count, within the first 3 pitches. When the count gets to full, Reds players often get struck out. Take a crack at it early.

  25. RedsGettingBetter

Martinez has the long ball activated since Detroit… something is wrong…The walk to Jeffers ended haunting

  26. Don

The fact that the Reds are paying $21 million this year for a guy who an ERA north of 4.25 does not set well.

  27. RedlegScott

OK, Nick is serving it up on a silver platter. Pen ready?

  28. Roger Garrett

Now that was not good at all.Power plays at GABP and that’s why you don’t walk hitters and obviously don’t pitch to Buxton at all.

    • Indy Red Man

3-1 count and Espy dribbler 5-3. Why does this man play so often?

  29. Indy Red Man

Burns alert. Martinez getting destroyed in June

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, he was great against Arizona but has now been bad in three other June starts.

I looked at his career splits. His June-July-August numbers are not good.

      His September numbers are great!(?)

  30. Mark Moore

Meatball to Clemons and groove the first pitch to Buxton. Great plan 😐

  31. Don

Using Sadak’s painting analogy on Martinez, I think Nick just spilled a paint can all over the floor.

  32. Mark A Verticchio

In hind sight it has been a bad decision to give him 21 million. I would love to see Burns take his spot after the trade deadline if not sooner.

    • Don

Yeah, he is responsible for almost 19% of the Reds total payroll this year. Given how much he is being paid, his performance this season has been very very poor.

  33. RedsGettingBetter

Martinez has given up 6 homers in less than 7 innings in last two outings… Unbelievable…

    • Roger Garrett

Just can’t throw anybody 89 up or anything hittable to Buxton like a change up in the middle of the plate at 77.Just bad execution.

  34. Roger Garrett

Reds will still win this game but got to keep the ball in the yard.

  35. Don

Funny how Larkin and Sadak were praising Martinez about 10 minutes ago.

  36. docmike

Martinez can give you innings, but he doesn’t really have the stuff to be anything more than a No. 4 or 5 starter. The Reds definitely ended up overpaying by making him a qualifying offer, but at least it’s just a one-year deal. Martinez is a temporary stopgap until someone like Lowder or Burns is ready to join the rotation full-time.

I think we would all agree that Martinez will not be here next year. With free agency looming after the 2026 season, I could see Singer getting traded this offseason as well. The 2026 rotation could look like:

    Greene
    Abbott
    Lodolo
    Lowder
    Burns

    • greenmtred

He was arguably the Reds’ best pitcher for the second half of last season.

      • docmike

He did pitch very well the last few months of 2024. Because of that, I didn’t have any problem with giving him the qualifying offer.

I still don’t mind it, even if he is somewhat overpaid. The Reds gambled that he would continue to be that guy, and he hasn’t. But Martinez has shown that he is a fine option for the back end of a rotation. For a one-year contract, he has been a perfectly serviceable # 4 or 5 starter.

  37. Indy Red Man

Game will be over before they pull him. He has nothing

  38. Indy Red Man

Martinez 93-94 mph is a completely different pitcher

  39. Don

Just tossed a 78 mph changeup right over the plate and got away with it.

  40. Dennis Westrick

Martinez obviously doesn’t have it today! There goes the winning streak! It was fun while it lasted!

    • Doug Gray

It’s probably safe to say that you can turn the game on now if you want to.

      • Dennis Westrick

Would love to but they kinda frown on that in my job here at Seminole County, FL!

      • Doug Gray

I get it. My boss also doesn’t like me to enjoy things.

        It’s me. I’m my boss.

  41. Don

Tito, you waited too long to pull him, big guy.

  42. Dennis Westrick

Tito waited one batter too long! Guess he was hoping Nick could limit the damage to one run but that didn’t happen!

  43. chris

Francona probably gave the game away. should have pulled him early. wins get more important every day.

    • Don

And with a bullpen that should be quite fresh. Makes no sense.

  44. CI3J

Tito looks like he’s packed on some pounds.

Enjoying that Skyline and Graeter’s a little too much, it seems.

  45. Indy Red Man

When you get old it goes fast in the world of sports

  46. Kevin H

Some days you have it, some days you dont. It happens to the best of pitchers one time or a another.

    Martinez will bounce back.

  47. CincyDo

Twins come to play for sure, helped by a bad day at the office for Martinez. Hard to sweep.

  48. Mark A Verticchio

Big difference between 5 -2 and 7 -2, the game may be over.

    • greenmtred

I think so: I cleted already. I’ll check in hoping for a near-miracle. Maybe Dennis should figure out a way to surreptitiously watch: a reverse whammy, or something…

      • Dennis Westrick

I’m open to whatever works! Just wish Tito had pulled Nick when it was 5-2!

  49. Roger Garrett

Just too many pitches in the middle of the plate.Game set match but you never know.

    • Kevin H

People on here said that Sunday when tigers were up 4-2.. still plenty of baseball to play

  50. RedlegScott

    Yikes, Nick.
Well, unless a miracle happens, Dennis will get to watch the next game.

    • Dennis Westrick

I’ll gladly trade wins for not watching! Even for the remainder of the season! Just want to see the Reds make the playoffs if they cannot catch the Stupid Cubs!

  51. Mark A Verticchio

2 out of 3 is good but you must complete the series to be in the race for a playoff spot. There is a lot of game left, just start to peck away.

  52. Indy Red Man

Play in a bandbox but we start Espy & Lux today w zero power. I like Lux alot, but you need power

    • Kevin H

Now that was a bandbox Homer. LOL. Got two back ..

    • JB

Steer stinks and Lux has no power. Anybody else you would like to get going?

  53. Tom Mitsoff

A month ago, I would have said this game is probably over. But this team has showed in recent weeks it doesn’t give up.

  54. RedsGettingBetter

Well , it seems the rally Reds will attempt to come back!

  55. RedlegScott

Bring up Burns and put Martinez back in long relief?

    • LWblogger

Geez, his ERA is still just a bit above 4 and he’s been pitching well his last few starts. No reason to put him in the pen. Also, what makes you want to hang your hat on a rookie? He’s throwing very well but MLB hitters are something else entirely. I stick with Martinez for now.

    • LWblogger

Don’t get me wrong, he definitely was throwing BP today.

  56. Mark Moore

Guess I picked the right day for an afternoon haircut. Was planning on playing it in one ear, but I’m thinking not. Maybe I’ll be surprised when I get back home.

Dennis … are you watching? If so, you realize we’re going to blame you today … 😮

  57. CincyDo

Elly needs to recognize change up pitch better and stays back a bit.

  58. Richard Fitch

    Gavin Lux.

    Another Nick Krall success story.

    • JB

He StInKs aND hAS no POweR. I just come here for the laughs.

    • Allthehype

Lots of Krall success stories from this last offseason.

  59. Tom Mitsoff

Ok, how do you pitch to Buxton here?

    • Doug Gray

I’m throwing him the floater pitch from Rookie of the Year.

  60. Dennis Westrick

Thanks to Lux it’s a 3-run deficit which, ironically, is what the deficit would have been if Tito had pulled Nick one batter earlier! It’s the little things that matter in baseball as in life!

  61. Indy Red Man

I wouldn’t sleep on Lyon being a 4th 5th starter next year. Stuff is much better then Singer

  62. Optimist

No weather issues today, and 6 more innings left – keep playing, and a big chance for Richardson.

  63. Allthehype

Didn’t like the Steer relay to Elly in the 3rd. Really weak. The arm just doesn’t appear to be there. I don’t see how the Reds view him as LF viable.

  64. RedsGettingBetter

Another 2-out run surrendered by the Reds pitching… Can’t get a scoreless inning so far…

  65. Dennis Westrick

Another example of what drives me insane about Reds pitchers! Richardson gets the first two outs of the inning, including a SO of Buxton (he of the 2 HRS already), then he walks what could have been the final out of the inning!

And as I was typing, Richardson give up a two-out, run-scoring double, again on a full count! Just nuts!

    • CincyDo

Yeah. Middle/ling relief pitching has been a problem for Reds, giving up tons of runs and letting game getaway.

    • Hanginwithem

Are you sure you’re not watching covertly? The baseball gods can see you!?

  66. Jason T.

Lyon next Reds pitcher to get roughed up. Yikes.

  67. Dennis Westrick

Reds could learn from the Twins today! They have scored a bunch of runs with two outs!

    • VaRedsFan

So you are breaking your vow on us?

I wonder if that’s why they are losing?

      • greenmtred

I encouraged him when it was 7-2. I thought he might be able to engineer a reverse whammy. My own clete is clearly not helping.

  68. Indy Red Man

Jeez Ltouise. Reverse jinx Lux. Jinx Lyon.
Not our day. Will has zero instincts in the OF sometimes

  69. VaRedsFan

I can’t believe how may people in here just turn on Martinez, like he is the worst pitcher ever. He is never going to be a Cy Young contender but…

He came into this game with quality starts in 7 of his last 9.

There’s going to be “Arroyo-like” days for him a few times a year.

    Relax folks.

    • Indy Red Man

He’s 35 throwing 91. The end is near

      • VaRedsFan

Since when has he needed velo?
        Since never.

    • JB

Welcome to Redleg Nation. Fandom changes by the pitch. April – Martinez stinks. May – Martinez was worth every penny. June – stinks. Pick any hitter on the team and at one time they needed to go to AAA. Lodolo worse pitcher on the team. One guy said Greene needs to be traded he can’t beat anybody. Pagan has been criticized. Hays is great ,now he isn’t worth the 5 mil they spent on him. On and on

      • VaRedsFan

Prisoner of the moment folks a plenty for sure.

    • Jason T.

I laugh at some of the comments. He’s been pretty on most of the season. Yes, two back-to-back duds, but that’s baseball.

Relax is right. Some games it just goes that way.

Happy to have won another series and who knows, there’s a lot of innings left still.

      • Jason T.

I don’t know why I thought it was more earned runs. Thanks for the update.

  70. RedsGettingBetter

In This inning it was a 2-out walk which opened the gate for two runs and counting …As in the 2nd inning…5 runs and counting

  71. Dennis Westrick

Weird stuff, these Reds RPs! Richardson strikes out the first 2 batters he faces, including Buxton, then just absolutely implodes!

  72. RedAlert

21 million for this kind of performance from
Martinez – Reds will NEVER LEARN … Krall is clueless dishing out his kind of $ for this type of performance …. And it ain’t the first time

Move Martinez to the pen and get BURNS UP HERE

      • RedAlert

Don’t care what his title is dude …he’s still clueless… he’s part of it

  73. Indy Red Man

Will could’ve caught that ball. Cost us 2 runs. Still early though

  74. CincyDo

Our love affair with Richardson should end after this outing. When Greene is back in rotation, I think Martizes should move to BP to fill the long/middle relief role where he excelled in the past and the Reds sorely need. Yep, keep Miley as starter, and I don’t even want to mention Burn or anyone that has not thrown a pitch in the major.

    • Tom Mitsoff

You can’t give up on someone just because they have a bad game. Every player at every position does occasionally.

      • greenmtred

Some ears are closed to the voices of reason.

      • Richard Fitch

I fear the ear worm of irrational anger hath infected him

      • Leonard Smalls

And I have my doubts about anyone calling for Miley to eat innings for a team chasing a wild card spot.

    • Indy Red Man

Richardson now 2.18 era on a ball Will should’ve caught. Ok

    • CincyDo

I put Richardson and Ashcraft in the same category, ok throwers but not good pitcher/baseball players. I didn’t think much of Ashcraft when he had an around 2 ERA early in the year. I prefer pitchers that can wiggle their way out of trouble on the days where they are not at their best.

  75. Kevin H

So do the reds release Candelario? To me he has no position on this team.

    • Jason T.

Performance, or lack of, should dictate a release. However with the dollars invested in him I doubt they throw in the towel yet.

    • Tom Mitsoff

They will not pay someone that much not to play for them.

  76. RedsGettingBetter

I wonder how Espinal could hit 9 homers last season

    • Jason T.

      That’s a head scratcher.

I wonder how McLain can hit 15 for 114 on the road for a .132 average this season.

      Some eye-opening stats.

  77. GreatRedLegsFan

Martinez has been diagnosed with shoulder fatigue, he’s day-to-day.

    • Tom Mitsoff

Did you see or hear that somewhere officially?

  78. Don

The worst nightmare would be Buxton being traded to an opposing NL Central team. Would darn sure hate to face this guy several series in a year.

    • Mitch

We already have that. His name is Pete Crow-Armstrong.

  79. Allthehype

Emotional overreactions are comical and entertaining.

    • Indy Red Man

Yeah they’ve only lost 17 of 20 seasons or whatever. Can’t point out any shortcomings

  80. Brian Rutherford

I get that nobody wins every game and pitchers have bad days. What gets me is when managers (not just Tito) act like they give up. Giving Martinez one more batter when they have already knocked Voyager out of orbit today is so frustrating. Especially when you have a rested bp. Those extra couple of runs were big in my mind.

    • Richard Fitch

David Bell Derangement Syndrome has finally come for Tito.

      Whoudda thunk it?

  81. RedsGettingBetter

And after 2-out Suter got in trouble but the ump missed a strike 3 on Wallner

  82. Indy Red Man

Hard to watch today. Every Reds pitcher is struggling to put anything together

    • Indy Red Man

Burns is the most talented pitcher they have. It took HG 3 years to throw a 3rd pitch. He needs to be up next week if they’re serious about being in the hunt

      • RedAlert

Apples and oranges … NOT EVEN CLOSE

      • CincyDo

This crowd talked about Barrero like he was sure the next Pujols. Same way Burns is being made the next Rijos. Orange to exact orange.

      • RedAlert

Who said anything about him being the next Rios ??? !!!! Bottom line is he’s good enough to pitch in this Reds rotation right now …

      • Votto4life

Must have missed Jose Barrero being the 2nd overall pick in the draft.

  83. RedsGettingBetter

fisrt scoreless inning …Suter anxiously made it

  84. RedsGettingBetter

Elly is hitless in this series thus far

    • Leonard Smalls

He did work two walks in the first game.

  85. Jim Walker

How about a little good cheer. CES has been up twice today and hit two balls at faster than 95MPH EV. One was a ground out to SS, the other a fly out to the track in right center. They are outs on the scorecard but could be a sign of things moving in a better direction.

  86. Mark A Verticchio

I have to agree that if this team was serious about contending then Burns should be up asap.

  87. Kevin H

Man tough crowd today. Reds 4 straight series wins. Playing great baseball. 10-5 for month of June. Yet one wouldn’t know it by some of the comments.

    • Votto4life

      @ Kevin H.

Yeah, the Reds have been playing really well. Hopefully, they can stay close enough to make it an enjoyable summer.

  88. RedsGettingBetter

After 2 outs and bases empty it has been a nightmare today

    • Dennis Westrick

You noticed that too! I think Reds pitchers have issued walks 4 times after getting 2 outs! Maddening!

  89. Mark A Verticchio

I really thought that they would make a run even though it was 9 to 4. However they seemed to have really laid down. They must be ready for St. Louis, hopefully Hayes will return but I doubt it.

    • Oldtimer

Hays can barely run. He will be out awhile.

  90. Votto4life

Rough start for Nick Martinez. Hopefully, he can turn it around a bit before the trade deadline.

I wonder how many more starts before Chase Burns gets the call?

    • Oldtimer

However many starts until September 1st.

      • Votto4life

You don’t think he will be called up until the roster expands?

I guess I just don’t see the logic of wasting him in AAA. But, you may be right.

  91. Tom Diesman

They just keep on coming. Gotta love this team!

  92. RedsGettingBetter

AS I said, Joe hasn’t been good but hasn’t been so bad either

  93. RedsGettingBetter

Elly has had a kind of regression in this series…taking bad at bats again…I can’t understand

  94. Dennis Westrick

A nice little single from Elly would have made it a 2-run game! Guess not!

  95. Mark A Verticchio

It’s hard to believe that they are going to beat the Twins 2 out of 3 with Elly doing next to nothing.

  96. Gpod

I really stinks when Elly gets into to “swing at everything “ mode

  97. CincyDo

We’re within a GS to tie the game. There’s hope.

  98. Mark Moore

Back and all freshly trimmed … 😉

Too bad we couldn’t convert in the bottom of the 7th at the end. Kind of looking like “one of those days”.

Still … series win is a good thing. Let’s wrap this up and get focused on the Dirty Birds.

I’m out … my avatar shirt (which I’m wearing) says it for me. It is a funny game … 😐

  99. RedsGettingBetter

Every time Reds score the Twins answer also scoring …The pitching has been awful today …no chance at all…

    • Dennis Westrick

You are too kind in describing the Reds pitching today! I have some other choice words/terms to describe it but then Doug would ban me quicker than an obnoxious troll!

  100. RedsGettingBetter

Incredible the amount of 2-out runs scored in this game especially by the Twins

  101. RedsGettingBetter

    Stephenson’s K% is alarming …

    • Jim Walker

TS is definitely prone to getting into funks at the plate, especially on calls he doesn’t like as a hitter. Not sure if that is good for a catcher.

  102. CincyDo

Did it cross Francona mind to send Fraley up to l?ch hit for Espinal? A HR there was what we needed and Espinal ain’t gonna hit a HR

    • Jim Walker

As hot as Fraley has been and with a RH pitcher starting for the Twinks, I’m thinking Fraley may have needed the day off for some reason.

      • CincyDo

Or Francona was planning his dinner in the dugout.

  103. RedsGettingBetter

    Mey lack of control arises…

  104. Dennis Westrick

Walks, walks, walks! It’s like a never-ending horror show with Reds pitchers today!

  105. Dennis Westrick

It’s nice that Mey can throw 100+, but he has got to improve on not hitting the bull mascot!

  106. Mark A Verticchio

Another point about wanting to win, big series coming up, if you can’t have Hayes why not bring up Hinds for some right handed power.

  107. RedsGettingBetter

Reds have a weaker bullpen after Ashcraft injury. Ashcraft still could be considered aas part of bullpen “A” while Mey is far as bullpen “B” guy…Only Santi, Pagán and recently Barlow are high-leverage relievers…

    • Leonard Smalls

Yeah, I fear that the bullpen is going to become a problem if the starting pitching regresses as I am expecting.

The Reds are going to need to win some more games with scores like 8-5 and 9-7.

  108. Dennis Westrick

Not one for rooting for a Yankees win but I hope they break out of their losing streak before coming to GABP next Monday!

  109. Dennis Westrick

Even the best laying hen pushes our a bad egg once in awhile! Reset and on to pluck the feathers of the Dirty Birds!

  110. docmike

I can’t believe all the calls to bring up Burns. Some folks even say that if they don’t call him up, the Reds aren’t “serious about winning”.

Are you kidding me? The kid was finishing up his college season this time last year! If the team thinks he needs more time in the minors, so be it!

I want Burns up when he is completely ready. Not just for shortsighted fixes to temporary problems. When he is called up, it needs to be when the time is right for his development.

Burns looks like he could be the next BIG THING. The Reds can’t screw this up.

    • RedAlert

Why ? It’s not unprecedented. Mike Leake was drafted by the Reds and went straight to major league club without any minor league experience at all in 2010. His stuff wasn’t nearly on the same level as Burns . Dude was number 2 pick in draft for a reason ….

  111. TR

Another series win. On to St. Louis, then home to play the Yankees and S.D.

    • Dennis Westrick

Yep! The next 9 games are important leading into July where the Reds schedule gets a little easier! still waiting on the Cubs June Swwon!
