The Cincinnati Reds couldn’t manage to score a run last night in the series opener in Houston. Tonight they will try and get the offense going against the Astros and even up the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm ET.

Brady Singer

After back-to-back strong starts to end April, Brady Singer didn’t have his best outing the last time out when he was in Atlanta as he allowed four runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

This season he’s held both lefties and righties to a low average and low on-base percentages. Right-handed hitters have not hit for any power against him this season. Left-handed hitters, though, have shown a good amount of power against him so far in 2025.

Lance McCullers Jr.

Tonight will be just the second start in the big leagues for Lance McCullers Jr. since 2022. After a series of injuries cost him both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he returned to the mound last week. Due to his time off the mound, we’re not going to look at his past splits – it’s simply too far in the past to think it’s important information.

News and Notes

Jake Fraley to the injured list

The Reds made it official this afternoon, sending Jake Fraley to the 10-day injured list with left calf tenderness. He’s been replaced on the roster by Connor Joe.

Wade Miley starting tonight in Dayton

The down time for Wade Miley after exiting his last rehab start after feeling something tighten up in his groin area was not very long. He’s on the mound tonight in Dayton to start for the Dragons.

Success at futility?

Reds have been under .500 at the 40-game mark in each of the last 12 seasons.

No Hays,no Hinds and no power but maybe it works.Hope Hays is ok.

    • CFD3000

I understand getting Benson’s left handed bat in the outfield, but I’d like to see Hinds’ bat in there too. Could Lux play first and Hinds DH? I agree that the absence of Hays is concerning.

      • Melvin

I hope Krall is not stupid enough to MAKE Tito play Joe as in, “I just traded for him. Play him”.

      • SteveAReno

yeah Melvin, why put a guy in like Conner Joe who can get on base three times, score a run, and get an RBI?
Do you prefer .180 hitters ?

      • Melvin

Glad it turned out well but it wasn’t smart if he did. Just enjoy it. 🙂

  2. CFD3000

After seeing the Reds in person on Thursday I thought (and posted) that Dunn, Hurtubise and Fraley (and Steere) all belonged in AAA or on the IL. I’m pleased that 3 of 4 have been resolved. I also predicted that McLain was close to finding his timing – here’s hoping he proves me right and Steere starts proving me wrong. I’ll be even more pleased if Hinds, Benson, and even Conor Joe can contribute to some offense and a win. Go Reds!

  3. RedsGettingBetter

I think Krall is looking for Mike Ford …I’m shocked Connor Joe isn’t the cleanup hitter…

  4. Mark A Verticchio

Now Hayes has played in 14 of 41 games, perhaps there was a reason why he was rather cheap.

  5. RedsFanInChicago

Why are both of our two most valuable position players this year, Trevino and Wynns, sitting again?

    • Longtimefan

That lineup would struggle to score runs against most AAA teams. Look at the last 4 hitters in the lineup and add McLain and his .160 average and good luck Singer.

  6. Votto4life

Seems the Reds fell apart this time last May. Despite all of the injuries last season they still stayed close to the .500 mark.

I think most of us knew a lot of things needed to go right for the Reds to win this season. Things haven’t gone right. The question becomes how long will the Reds stick with this group of players before the next rebuild? I think the Castellinis will give this team another season. But, if they don’t show a marked improvement by the end of 2026, I think the Red’s will move on from Nick Krall and start the next fire sale.

We all had high hopes for Elly, McLain, Steer, CES and Stephenson etc. but maybe they are just not that good. All we can do now is hope for the best.

  7. Dennis Westrick

So, there are some (Kevin H. & JB) on this site that think I am not positive! How’s this for positive thinking! Despite the Reds abysmal record in their last 10 games (3-7), they are only 3.5 games (4 in the loss column) behind the NL Central-leading Cubs! This early in the season that lead can be wiped out in a week! In addition, the Reds are only 4 games out of the coveted 3rd NL Wild Card spot. Again, a long way to go!

What the Reds need to do is start with a win tonight! Hopefully, a win tonight will spark a winning streak much like the KC Royals who are on a 7-game winning streak and have won 16 of their last 18 games! Yes, Virginia, it’s possible!

Finally, he’s back! Yes, Benson is back! I hope he hits a ball into the Crawford boxes!

Let’s score some runs and let Singer do his thing!

  8. Mark Moore

Got my newest shirt on tonight. I’m trying what I can. Let’s break the funk and rack up some hits and runs.

Go Singer! Go Joe! Go EVERYBODY!!!!

    • Mark Moore

Soup and a good grilled cheese (cheddar/muenster on sourdough), Melvin 🙂

      • CLTRedsFan

Mark, Can you Door Dash me some of that Soup and Grilled Cheese here in CLT? With this Reds lineup, I could use some Comfort Food!! However let’s right the Good Ship Cincinnati and start an extended winning streak tonight!! Let’s punt this swine!!

      • Mark Moore

The soup is Kevin’s and is available in a chiller in our Food Lion. This happened to be my favorite which is a Thai coconut chicken.

You know I’d bring you a sammy if I could 😉

      • Melvin

Sounds good. If the Reds win you have to make that before every game until they lose. 😉

      • DaveCT

The sourdough grilled cheese might be perfection. .

  9. Roger Garrett

Braves advance the ghost runner to third on a ground ball and he scores on a wild pitch after the Bucs don’t score after the first two reach in the ninth and have the winning run thrown out at home in the 10th.Teams that know how often get it done and teams that don’t know how rarely get it done.We have to become a team that knows how so lets start tonight and not look back.GO REDS

  10. Tom Diesman

Another beautiful day for baseball and the Reds are playing. It’s going to be another great day for the Reds.

  11. Mark Moore

Well, Matty had walked, so I guess a plunk in the butt gets us there as well.

  12. Roger Garrett

Good start lets get em over and in.

  13. RedsGettingBetter

ELLY! Power arises! an early lead to Singer

  14. Roger Garrett

Great start lets keep it going.

  15. RedsGettingBetter

Lux’s BABIP had to regress some day so I think it’s now…

  16. Roger Garrett

ESpinal gives us a professional at bat almost every time.

    • Tom Diesman

Then why is his OPS .497 over the last 6 games? Regression to mean is real.

      • Mark S.

Perhaps because you can still put up a professional at bat regardless of your OPS? He’s never going to be a slugger. But he plays solid defense and puts the ball in play. 5 for 23 during those six games, which isn’t horrible. 3k’s, he still puts the ball in play more often than anyone else on the team.

  17. Mark Moore

Finished watching Friday’s Jeopardy, so I’m on the big screen and have Sadak/Cowboy on again tonight. Mccullers is struggling juuuuuust a bit to fin anything close to the strike zone.

  18. Roger Garrett

Good at bat by Steer lets keep it going.

  19. dimondfvr

Nice to see the Reds get to McCullers and send him to the showers.

  20. RedsGettingBetter

Well , Reds batting practice …This is becoming a bullpen day for Astros…It’s good

  21. Mark Moore

If my math is correct, that’s an in-game ERA of 135 and he’s still responsible for the two on base now … 😮

  22. Roger Garrett

Now who saw this coming? Please is it just the soup and grilled cheese? If so lets make it a daily thing before every game.

  23. Magi210

Reds taking out frustration on the Astros tonight.

Astros gifting a lot of baserunners.

  24. RedsGettingBetter

Very good at bats thus far …being patient and crushing the right pitch

  25. Mark Moore

And make that a 189 ERA for Lance for his 1/3 of an inning today. WOW!!

  26. CLTRedsFan

McCullers looks a little bit rusty in his 2nd appearance in 5 years!! He’s the perfect remedy for our struggling hitters!!

    • Mark Moore

Yep. And we’ll gladly take it after the funk we’ve been in.

  27. RedsGettingBetter

Lux finishing off the big rally to 10 runs… After a shutout yesterday this team manages to score 10 incredible…it’s crazy

  28. LDS

Just tuned in. Rather unexpected and surreal beginning to a Reds game.

    • Mark Moore

Go back and watch the entire inning. It’s almost baffling and other-worldly.

  29. Mark Moore

And the Bizzarro Zone is definitely in full play tonight.

  30. SOQ

Hmmm Reds score 3 on Elly HR. I step outside to check the garden and when I return, we’re up 10-0. Perhaps I should tend the garden more often 🙂

  31. Kevin H

Maybe I should stomp off like a child more often and then not come here until reds score 10 runs a inning.

My apologies lastnight. Just got frustrated, your all good people and we all want same thing.

    • Mark Moore

You are “forgiven” and always welcome, Kevin. It’s easy to be positive (for almost everyone) when you pile up 10 runs before even taking the mound.

We are all quite frustrated, so tonight (so far) is a welcome relief.

      • Melvin

We can only hope now that we’re not using up all of our runs for the next several games in one night. Hopefully it will start some momentum.

      • Kevin H

Yes momentum is something this offense needs. Gotta stop the losing streak and put together a 8-2 run or something.

    • Tom Diesman

No apologies needed. This is the most negative RLN has ever been. The Hee Haw band is the house band.

  32. dimondfvr

Tom you may have to explain that one to some of the youngsters, LOL.

  33. Andrew Brewer

Reds score 10 runs in the first … Yep it’s an unreal world in baseball this year.

    • Andrew Brewer

Two years ago, I said you can never count the Reds out. They were so good at two out rallies and scoring in the 9th, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen 10 runs in the first inning.

  34. Mark Moore

Benson gave that out a nice ride. I’ll remain skeptical, but if he somehow “finds” it, we get the benefit.

    • DaveCT

Said the other say. 135 plate appearances at AAA get comfortable with his new swing is a lot better than 35. The other benefit is Francona told him to go down and work on it and, if he did well, he’d be back.

      • Mark Moore

        Yes you did.

        +10,000 for you, Dave

      • DaveCT

I’d settle for a grilled cheese on sourdough.

  35. Mark Moore

And Bike Helmets to end the inning. Got to love that.

  36. Hanginwithem

Looks like all the angst built up over the last 5 games finally exploded.

  37. RedsGettingBetter

McLain recalled how is to hit a homer! He needs it

  38. RedsMonk65

That had to feel REAL good for McLain! Hope that’s an indicator he’s back…..

  39. Mark Moore

Knew it as soon as he hit it. Cowboy said off the Haliburton sign. That’ll build back some confidence for MattyMc.

    Another pen arm coming.

  40. dimondfvr

That’s got to make McClain feel good!

  41. Andrew Brewer

Mighty Mc with a two run blast ! How far will they go today ?

  42. Jason T.

Great hit McLain. Nice to see some hits and runs.

  43. Mark Moore

As one of my old HS soccer coaches used to say, “Right in the onions.”

  44. Kevin H

Well if Brady had to struggle tonight is that night. 5 innings maybe?

  45. RedsGettingBetter

It’s no good to allow Astros to have a rally that gives them hopes in this game… It’s still early

  46. Mark Moore

I’m thinking Benson should have had that.

Lead shrinking. Brady not getting his best stuff across.

    • Kevin H

I swear the players are over thinking. I agree Benson should of had it. He didnt trust his defense abilities.

In saying that Singer doesn’t have it today

      • Melvin

To say Singer doesn’t have it tonight is an understatement.

    • Jason T.

Not sure how he misses catching that…

  47. Melvin

If Singer can’t last long enough to get the win with all this run support he’s not going to feel very good.

  48. RedsGettingBetter

Just incredible Singer hasn’t the stuff tonight…Unbelievable…

  49. Melvin

IF we can’t win this game tonight I don’t want to think about it. lol

  50. Mark Moore

Just under belt high … no bueno spot

  51. RedsMonk65

What the heck is going on here? Astros clawing back into it.

    • Mark Moore

Singer wasn’t hitting his spots for the most part. That’s what I saw.

  52. Andrew Brewer

    That’s enough ! Time for relief !

    • Andrew Brewer

Richardson on in relief, one out and no one on.

  53. RedsGettingBetter

And the Astros erased 6 runs as magic…I’m shocked

  54. Tom Diesman

It’s hitters night and the feelings right. Oh yes it’s hitters night. Oh what a night.

      • Dennis Westrick

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons!

    • Mark Moore

Definitely not a pitcher’s night so far.

  55. SOQ

Going back to my garden with a grilled cheese sammich!

  56. Dennis Westrick

Might want to get the bullpen up! Two words for Singer! Good grief!

  57. Redlegs1869

What are the odds the Reds hang on for the win after a 10 run first…?

  58. Dennis Westrick

OK Richardson, you got the mandatory walk out of the way!

  59. RedsGettingBetter

Richardson walking the 8th batter still having a 5-run lead is really bad

  60. Chris

The moment I peeked at the score and saw it was 12 – 1 Reds in the 3rd, I knew that we’d give most of those runs back before the 6th.

This Reds team is exactly like every prior Reds team of the past 20 years. And it’s nauseating.

    • Tom Diesman

Need someone to hold your hair?

      • Chris

Yes, please. Before I pull it all out.

        Meanwhile, I’ll hold your blinders.

      • Melvin

Another walk. If Tito had any hair left he’d probably be pulling it out about now.

    • Kevin H

I mean with how the reds starting pitching has performed and everything. No way you “could have known”

      • Chris

I’ve followed this team from the 70s. I’ve got a fairly good handle on how the script typically goes the past couple of decades.

  61. Andrew Brewer

Pena started things off in the Houston 3rd, they have batted around.

    • Andrew Brewer

I don’t want to guess where this one is going… It’s going to be a wild night.

  62. Tomn

Question for Reds stat historians. What’s the largest lead ever blown by a Reds team?

    • dimondfvr

The Cincinnati Reds have blown a 9 run lead on 3 separate occasions. The most recent 9 run blown lead was when the Reds were leading 9-0 in the top of the 4th inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sep 23, 2023, and ended up losing the game 12-13.
      Source Website: Champs or Chumps

      • Tomn

Thanks! Champs or chumps. So is that champsorchumps.com?

  63. Kevin H

The first 3 innings have taken 1 hour and 15 minutes. Wow

  64. RedlegScott

Just tuned in. What in the world is going on?

    • Mark Moore

We chased Mccullers after he got only 1 out. Singer wasn’t fooling anybody. It’s a full-on bullpen game and balls are jumping off the bats.

  65. Dennis Westrick

Baseball’s a funny game! Reds had scored a total of 9 runs in their last 6 games, losing 5 of them and now score 12 runs in 3 innings! Based upon what Houston did to that 12-1 lead we need to keep scoring!

    • Mark Moore

Cowboy saying 12 won’t win it tonight.

  66. RedlegScott

12-7. I honestly thought I’d tuned into a Bengals v Texans game somehow.

      • RedlegScott

Then I thought the wind must be blowing out in the Astrodome. lol

  67. RedsGettingBetter

Walking batters is the worst Richardson can do

  68. Andrew Brewer

Ty Steve singles in the Reds 4th, that’s a good sign… The Reds started 5 players hitting below the Mendoza line tonight.

  69. Kevin H

Small things, and Benson not striking out so far is a accomplishment

  70. DaveCT

Paredes walk, ball 3 and 4, sliders.

Who called those pitches? Richardson’s third best pitch?

  71. Andrew Brewer

Dezenzo can’t break the 2-2-2 jinx and Richardson escapes the threat in the 4th…

  72. Dennis Westrick

Wasn’t pretty but Richardson survives his 2nd inning of work!

  73. Andrew Brewer

Connor Joe contributes with a leadoff single in the Reds 5th.

    • Andrew Brewer

… and a walk to Friedl puts two one with no outs.

  74. Andrew Brewer

Now let’s see if the Reds can play situational baseball … 1st and 3rd with one out.

    • Andrew Brewer

McLain steals second … and Elly goes down on strikes, 2 outs now.

  75. Mark Moore

Sadak heading off on a bit of a fan-boy track … Cowboy calmly reeling him back in. Makes it way easier to listen.

  76. MK

If there was any thought that Wade Miley would be a help at the big league level this season that should be put to rest tonight at Dayton, if not before. A guy literally half(19 to 38) his age takes him deep twice.

It takes a young physically fit play 12 to 14 months to recover from TJ, 18 months for an average age pitcher. Wade is neither young or even average so it is unrealistic to expect anything in 2025. Might be time for someone to have a the talk with him. of course they couldn’t do it with #19 so who knows.

    • Mark Moore

That’s a bit sad. The dream dies hard for some of these guys. It’s all they’ve known. He should have plenty of funds to walk away, but the drive to compete doesn’t think that way.

    • Tom Diesman

He’s all about command and location and nobody expects it to be there this early in recovery. Way to early to draw a conclusion on him right now.

      • MK

Tom just too early for him. Most likely and 18 month recovery rather than 12. 39-year-old recovery not like a 29-year old. He barely hit 88 mph tonight.

  77. Andrew Brewer

I’m thinking we could use a couple of runs here, Lux at the plate… and the bases are loaded for Espinal.

  78. Kevin H

Alright well still a 5 run lead. Elly is just pitched different. Was hoping Espinal would come through.

Flip side if Reds pitching can’t hold a five run lead well….

  79. RedsGettingBetter

REds missed the chance to pad the lead or even put away the game but this is how the team is

  80. Dennis Westrick

I know he hit a 3-run HR in the 1st inning, but Elly continues to struggle with putting the ball in play with runners in scoring position, especially runners at 3rd with less than 2 outs! It’s frustrating to watch!

  81. Andrew Brewer

Barlow on the bottom half… and he’s throwing strikes !

    • Andrew Brewer

He gives up a single and a walk, one down.

  82. Mark Moore

Could really use Bike Helmets here to get out of this jam.

  83. RedsGettingBetter

Come on, you can’t walk the 9th batter in this spot…inning got complicated

  84. Dennis Westrick

And now Barlow walks a batter! Please pitch to contact! You have a 5-run lead!

  85. Jason T.

Barlow and his walks. Get him out of there.

  86. RedsGettingBetter

The pitching imploding tonight after the offense breakout… No way

  87. Dennis Westrick

Those runners left on base last inning by the Reds are looming larger by the minute!

  88. Andrew Brewer

Pena hurts us ! Need another pitcher …

    • Andrew Brewer

And Ashcraft comes on, right on cue.

  89. Melvin

Slip Sliding Away is thee theme song right now when it comes to this lead.

  90. RedAlert

Barlow and Rogers have NOT BEEN GOOD

  91. Kevin H

I am laughing at this moment.

Hey Mark what was that about a good mood at 10-0.

Francona is managing and doing his part. As Melvin said losing a 11 run lead is pitiful

    • Mark Moore

Definitely having mood swings here, Kevin.

If Ashcraft can get us out of this jam and then pitch the 6th well, it will swing back the other way a bit.

      Kind of like that.

      • Kevin H

Reds gotta score a run or two more.

Never thought I would say that when it was 12-1

  92. RedAlert

Walks ain’t gonna cut it as a reliever at this level Barlow …. Got people waiting in line to take your place buddy …

    • Dennis Westrick

Thank you! Somebody else that doesn’t like walks by relief pitchers!

      • RedAlert

He doesn’t have the stuff of either one of those arms …. By a mile

  93. Indy Red Man

10-0 meltdown in progress. The pen is getting worked, but that’s what they get paid for

  94. Melvin

Two hours and we’re only in the bottom of the 5th. lol

    • Mark Moore

      Yeah … that’s definitely painful.

  95. RedsGettingBetter

Reds should score more insurance runs …The offense is stuck just after the Astros is getting closer…

  96. dimondfvr

Mark, I hope you are not stress eating those grilled cheese sandwiches and soup! Pace yourself. LOL

    • Mark Moore

No, but I did indulge in the other half of a pint of gelato 😮

  97. Dennis Westrick

Got the good Ashcraft for 2 batters at least!

  98. Kevin H

Like Stephenson I do, however to me Trevino should be catching more.

    • Mark Moore

I’ve got about one more week of patience for TySteve to “finish his Spring Training”. But some DH time would definitely help.

    • RedAlert

Totally agree with this …. Bat is on fire and he’s solid behind plate

      • RedAlert

Agree with you about Trevino Kevin for sure …

  99. Indy Red Man

I always liked Connor Joe. He’s got some experience we need

    • SteveAReno

Conner Joe got on base three times tonight. That’s awesome and no strikeouts!

      • Melvin

Yep. Probably should play him again tomorrow. Play the hot hitter.

  100. Mark Moore

OK, Connor. You at least got us a run back. We’ll take a debut night like this most any game.

  101. RedsGettingBetter

Connor Joe hitting in the clutch to add a run but he hustled to be thrown out

  102. Melvin

Good hit but fitting right in already with the base running. sheesh Another project for Tito.

    • Mark Moore

      I’m thinking Cowgill sent him.

      • Mark Moore

No, it wasn’t close. It was a good throw, but not one where it had to be perfect.

        Water under the bridge now.

      • Melvin

Yep. It’s flowing down stream now. 🙂

      • DaveCT

Might have something to do with playing in a T ball stadium.

  103. Rob

Think it might have been smarter to have Petty relieve Singer and have Abbott go on regular rest tomorrow. Seems like he now has boxed himself in needing Petty to at least put up 5-6 innings tomorrow. .?? I don’t foresee Abbot relieving tomorrow. And if the bullpen has to pitch 5-6 innings again, we are in trouble.

  104. Mark Moore

OK, the zone is baffling again tonight.

I get it, baseball at this level is hard. Umpiring at this level is also hard.

However … current technology advances can help with one of those to aspects of the game. It’s past time, folks.

    • Kevin H

He has been inconsistent fore sure tonight.

  105. Andrew Brewer

Don’t worry about tomorrow, it will take care of itself… Nice to get one back in the sixth. 13-7 Reds

  106. Kevin H

Right on cue a ball called a strike. Reds will take it

  107. Mark Moore

Thank you Graham. More drama than any of us wanted, but the result is a good one.

Top of the order coming up for the good guys.

  108. Melvin

Well at least the walk didn’t score that time Dennis.

  109. RedsGettingBetter

Every Reds pitcher has bee in trouble thus far… Ashcraft manages to get out of the jam unscathed…IDK but feel like a 5-run at the 7th is not enough to be sure in this wild game

    • Kevin H

Seems like it should be in 9th inning by now. Lol

  110. Dennis Westrick

Glad to see Ashcraft walked his obligatory batter! Good news is that no harm no foul!

  111. Mark Moore

Timer violation for the 3rd strike? Definitely no bueno.

    • Andrew Brewer

A guy facing Walter Johnson, once went and headed for the bench after two strikes, the Ump said, hey, you got another one coming, and he said, I don’t want one.

  112. RedsGettingBetter

Wow Tito showing confidence in Mey …

  113. Kevin H

You all noticed Francona seems to smiling or laughing. Keeping dugout loose it would appear.

    • Mark Moore

I think that’s one of his strengths vs. the Stoic from recent past.

      • Melvin

Are you saying he doesn’t rank with you 100 out of 30 managers? hahaha

  114. Mark Moore

Cowboy is giving us the play-by-play lecture on what Mey needs to do in order to be consistently successful. He was doing a lot of it that inning.

  115. Andrew Brewer

Luis Mey about to get it done in the 7th… and he does, 1-2-3

  116. Kevin H

Padres beating rockies 19-0 5th inning.

    • Andrew Brewer

the baseball gods are restless… the Rockies have 6 wins on the year.

  117. DaveCT

I believe the term plutonium applies to Mey’s sinker.

  118. RedsGettingBetter

Mey topped 102.1 MPH and got 1-2-3 the 7th , I think is the first inning retired in order by Reds pitching

  119. Indy Red Man

102 mph sinker, 86 mph slider. GL with that

  120. Dennis Westrick

Mey needs to be disciplined immediately! He failed to walk a batter!

  121. Kevin H

I think Mey and Richardson are keepers in the bullpen.

    • Dennis Westrick

I’d vote for that! Ashcraft may have to abandon his RP role temporarily to cover for Greene!

      • Mark Moore

I doubt he’s ready to pitch 4-6 innings every 5 days at this point.

  122. Mark A Verticchio

Steer still looks horrible at the plate.

  123. Andrew Brewer

Espinal is not done yet, doubles in the 8th !

    • Andrew Brewer

Hays hits for Benson but strands 2… Reds scoreless in the 8th, but up 13-8.

  124. Mark Moore

Hays swinging for the Crawford boxes

  125. Mark A Verticchio

A big problem with all these guys getting hurt is it takes them time to get their swing back and some longer than others.

    • Mark Moore

Yep. Some of them started the year in the hole as well. Pitchers are now almost 2 months into the season.

  126. RedsGettingBetter

This walk to Walker is by the UMP , he was struckout

  127. RedAlert

Reds can run some serious gas from that bullpen …. Some high octane arms !

  128. Andrew Brewer

… and Santillan gets it done in the 8th, with two strikeouts too.

  129. Mark Moore

First Wife just asked, “It’s still going?”

I’m beginning to feel a wee bit more hopeful 🙂

    • Melvin

Reds bullpen has been able to stop the bleeding so far.

    • Tom Diesman

BuT tHeIr batTinG avEragEs are So low.

  130. Mark Moore

HT on that throw to get Joe at 1st.

  131. Mark Moore

TJ is one LEGIT machine tonight.

  132. Jason T.

Nice inaugural Reds game for Connor Joe.

    • SteveAReno

We need his veteran work. Hats off to Conner Joe!

  133. Dennis Westrick

I still don’t understand the reluctance of today’s ML managers, including Tito, to use RPs for more than one inning! Mey only threw 14 pitches in his one inning of work!

Again, and this may just be my logic, if you run out 3,4 or even 5 RPs the odds are that at least one of them may not have his shutdown stuff!

    • Mark Moore

Agreed. Though given what may transpire tomorrow and the day off on Monday, all the guys may be available again … and may be needed.

    • Andrew Brewer

Ashcraft, Suter, and Richardson get to go more than one. But your point is well made.

    • Jason T.

Agreed. Especially when Mey in this instance looked so on. I’ve thought the same myself. Seems like your pushing it using so many relief pitchers.

      • Dennis Westrick

It was one of many things that drove me crazy about Bell’s managerial style!

    • Kevin H

I assume 14 pitches and he is available tomorrow as well. As Richardson and Ashcraft threw over 20 pitches so assume they aren’t available tomorrow.

  134. Mark Moore

OK, 3 quick outs from Pagan and I can pack it in.

Everybody hold on to your butts …

  135. Andrew Brewer

Double play ends the Reds ninth… now to close it out.

  136. Kevin H

So not gonna predict anything about petty. As last time I said a no hitter and well we all know..

  137. Andrew Brewer

Pagan tries to finish them off with 4 seamers, like Finnegan did the other night, and walks Cam Smith with 2 outs.

    • Andrew Brewer

And Pena dbls him home ! now 13-9

  138. Dennis Westrick

Pagan HAD to WALK a batter with 2 outs!

  139. RedsGettingBetter

The walks again keep alive Astros…7 walks by Reds pitchers thus far

  140. Mark Moore

We gonna benefit from Altuve’s hammy tweak here?

  141. Dennis Westrick

And the batter Pagan walks scores! Imagine that!

  142. Kevin H

Well bullpen does the job. Only 2 runs allowed. 6 walks abit concerning. A win none the less.

    • Dennis Westrick

Fortunately, only one of those walks scored, I think! Just feels good to win!

  143. Melvin

Alright. It turned out it only took 10 runs to win it. We’ll take it. 🙂

    • Tom Diesman

Yep. Thanks to our great offense tonight.

    • Dennis Westrick

I had to eat 3 times during this game to keep my strength up!

  144. Jason T.

Glad for the W! Now let’s win this series tomorrow.

  145. Dennis Westrick

Gotta be one of the longest Reds game I’ve followed in years! Plus, never felt completely comfortable after the Reds took the 12-1 lead!

    Good win nevertheless!

    • Melvin

Yeah. Kind of bad when you’re blood pressure goes up after an 11 run lead but we still won. 🙂

  146. Mark A Verticchio

Really need to break that long long long streak Sunday of not winning a series after losing the first game.

  147. RedsGettingBetter

REDS WIN… despite scoring 10 runs in the first inning this wasn’t an easy win…The pitching wasn’t good tonight but did enough to hold on the Astros…

    • Tom Diesman

That was easy peasy. Don’t know what you’re talking about.

  148. Andrew Brewer

And Pagan ends it with three pitches. I’m guessing he was ticked.

Reds win 13-9, and it was much needed !
