Andrew Abbott

In his last two outings he’s thrown 7.0 innings and in one of those he allowed a run and in the other one he didn’t.

Teams don’t run many lefties out there against Abbott. He’s been quite dominant against the ones that have been given the chance to face him this season. Right-handed hitters aren’t hitting for much average and they aren’t getting on base, either. They are hitting for a good amount of power, though.

Kyle Gibson

The last time out, Gibson had his started interrupted by rain and only threw 4.0 innings against Baltimore. It was the first time all season he hadn’t walked a batter and only the second time he hadn’t walked multiple batters in a game.

Right-handed hitters aren’t doing a whole lot this year against Gibson. They’ve been below-average across the board when he’s been on the mound. Left-handed hitters aren’t hitting for much average and their on-base percentage is solid at best. But they are making plenty of contact, drawing a solid number of walks, and they are showing good power.

Here’s to Abbott handling the WLB Dirty Birds tonight and leading the Pig Kicking Extravaganza!!!

  2. Eddiek957

    Williamson starting for the Bats

  3. Mark Moore

A little too much air time for Hurtubise. Way to stick with it, though.

  4. Roger Garrett

Two punch outs to begin the game.

    • Mark Moore

Yep. From a bottom of the rotation guy if I’m not mistaken.

  5. Mark Moore

And the streak of extra base hits in the 1st inning comes to an ugly end.

  6. Old-school

Steer looking like GG at first base

  7. Roger Garrett

AA being AA so lets get him some runs.

    • Old-school

      Stay positive

We got 3rd time thru the order to fall back on! Maybe even 2nd time

    • Mark Moore

OK. At least it’s limited to 1 run.

Time to pony up a few, boyz. We know you can do it. We’ve been watching (lately, at least).

  8. TJ

I didn’t think the runner touched 3rd. Did anyone else notice? I would imagine the Reds would appeal if they thought he missed a base.

    • Mark Moore

Wasn’t paying attention to that. You’d have to believe they’ve got eyes on that.

  9. RedsGettingBetter

Abbott has the 2-out problem. Many times permits runs after 2 outs and bases empty…

  10. Mark Moore

Yep … Cy Gibson it is.

Abbott is doing his part (as per usual). Really hate to see him take yet another hard-luck loss because the boyz can’t put it together.

    • Mark Moore

Well, he WAS doing his part. A cookie to Nolan even when he’s slumping won’t stay in our ballpark.

  11. JB

3-0. Maybe that will WAAAAKEUP these guys. No emotion out there. I’m falling asleep watching it.

  12. RedsGettingBetter

Abbott locating the pitches in the power zone and Cards have taken advantage of it…The Reds are in a hole now…

  13. Roger Garrett

Down 3-0 is like well hard for us to overcome.

  14. LarkinPhillips

Lecure called a bomb by Arrenado today on the pregame.

  15. LarkinPhillips

Reds will need to make an adjustment and stay back to hit the ball up the middle and opposite field against this junk baller. To many balls pulled off their feet and flared at.

    • LarkinPhillips

I can’t recall a fastball inside that was hitable yet.

  16. Roger Garrett

Nothing to see here.Cy Gibson just toying with the Reds.Three runs nope, three hits maybe.

  17. JB

I’m not even sure what Steer was swinging at on that pitch.

  18. Mark Moore

And even with THAT going on we can’t get a lucky break.

I was up at 5 to catch a train home today. I don’t think I’m long for this kind of performance tonight.

  19. Dennis Westrick

Time for a comeback! One (1) run at a time! Let’s go!

  20. Mark Moore

Being no-hit by this iteration of Cy Young is particularly ugly

  21. Old-school

We are officially down to 3rd time thru lineup as only chance

This is half kyle hendricks half arroyo

Reds playing entire 1/3 of season with martini and ford as DH

Both cant hit for avg or obp and power is why they are here and that aint happening either

Every other aspect of their games arent mlb level. DH is a gaping hole on this offense

They are place holders for Friedl and marte and so a hole

  22. RedsGettingBetter

This Reds team is making me mad. Being no-hit by Kyle Gibson so far is ugly, awful, insane…

  23. Rob

Another offensive malaise. 5 hits last night and only 3 error-assisted runs. May not even reach that tonite. And not a LH pitcher. Come on Krall… it is obvious. We are not going to win 6-8 games in a row scoring 3 runs.

  24. Dennis Westrick

OK! Abbott survived that 6th inning mess! Let’s start with a hit! Then another! Then another!

  25. Mark Moore

I’m thinking the winning streak was exhausting for the boyz. Jobu is likely drunk and under the purple bridge.

Thanks, Wil, for breaking up the no-no and shutout, though. Maybe that will spark something.

  26. Dennis Westrick

OK! No-hitter gone! Shutout gone! Now let’s go win this thing!

  27. Mark Moore

Elly’s power outage continues, but Candy legs out a double.

    • Harry Stoner

Sub Mendoza over the last 30 games.

  28. Melvin

Okay. Power back on. Now it’s time to win. 🙂

    • Melvin

As in my home power; not necessarily EDLC. 😉

  29. Jason T.

Nice hustle by Candy. Hopefully this gets things going. Shame that Steer crushed that to the 3B.
Abbott isn’t get any help from the umpire on those pitches at the bottom of the strike zone. He’s fun to watch though. Really like watching him. Again, pitching doing its part.

    • west larry

Abbott doesn’t have it today. A four run deficit is a mountain to climb for this offense, Need a big inning or two to have a chance.

  30. Roger Garrett

Gibson threw 9 pitches and got 3 outs and we had two hits. How in the world can a team do that?Absolutely not in the game?Benson homers on the second pitch and the next 4 hitters see 7 pitches and hit one for a double and the inning is over.

  31. Mark Moore

    And that’s a full-on Clete from me.

Let’s show up tomorrow and at least win the series.

  32. Old-school

Why was abbott allowed to pitch after lead off walk in 7 th down 2 and gassed 90 pitches???

Bell clinches it a day late and dollar short

    • Dennis Westrick

That’s our Bell the Brilliant. Always a day late and a dollar short!

  33. LarkinPhillips

Well that’s probably it for tonight. Hopefully we can take the series tomorrow.

  34. Dennis Westrick

A walk, followed by a HR and bye-bye ballgame!

      • Dennis Westrick

It was only a matter of time!

  35. Roger Garrett

No way AA starts that inning after the rough 6th and his pitch count close to 90.Trust me Bell will always find a way to just be Bell.He will never ever be the guy to get this team even close to winning.

  36. Roger Garrett

Bell waved the white flag by sending AA back out there. He was going to go with him regardless and then it was Buck regardless.

    • Dennis Westrick

Don’t forget Roger! Astronaut Farmer is the equivalent of a teacher’s pet! Bell will always find a way to use Good Old Uncle Buck!

      • Oldtimer

        Buck Farmer has 2.19 ERA and 194 ERA+in 2024,

Reds best reliever. Are you really that far from factual reality?

  37. Roger Garrett

Reds can’t hit and we know it but when your manager tries to squeeze every out from your starter he is not trying to win at the time a winnable game.Where was Moll or Young after the lead off walk?Buck was next after AA from the get go tonight and thats how Bell had it scripted and thats how it went and thats the game.

  38. Roger Garrett

Now we see Young.Anybody surprised? Wonder if anybody will ask him why not Young to face Gorman?Of course not.

  39. Roger Garrett

Now its Young and Gorman and he fans him.You can’t make this stuff up as to how bad Bell can be as a manager.

    • Dennis Westrick

Proof once again that Bell is a master tactician! That’s sarcasm by the way!

  40. Dennis Westrick

Need the Stupid Cubs to beat Milwaukee!

  41. Dennis Westrick

Two (2), yes 2 hits tonight! Unless your starter throws a shutout, you cannot win with only 2 hits!

    • Melvin

Four game winning streak or not this team needs hitting help…..badly.

    • Melvin

      4 Hits, 3 BB, 10 Ks….not a good combination for winning.

  42. Roger Garrett

Bell has 3 lefties in the pen and he chose to let AA stay in and face Gorman and it goes from 3-1 to 5-1.No way that is acceptable.Especially when we have seen Young and now Suter.Bell has to go.There is no logical reason for that to happen.

  43. Jason Franklin

I just noticed what was going on with the game. Probably best I just go back to not paying attention to this one!

Bell is amazing. Was he just keeping Abbott out there so he “gains experience? This experience by getting ripped for 3 more runs he didn’t need to give up? Why have 3 lefty BP arms? What a waste of space.

  44. Jason Franklin

And of course Ford takes a called third strike. Does the team forget how to protect the plate at times? Maybe we can come back tomorrow for a win.

  45. LDS

I’d have taken my chances with Fairchild. But Bell knows things – like how to lose ball games by being hidebound to some esoteric Bell baseball philosophy that no one else in the world understands.

  46. Roger Garrett

Bell will always find a way to do what he did tonight and I can assure you it will happen over and over again. He just can’t help himself.I know the players love him and i know he is under no pressure of losing his job and I have given him props for good moves and will again but he is not the manager one would want if you want to win.He just isn’t.No excuse to leave AA in when you follow up with two lefties for an inning a piece. He blew it by trying to squeeze another out from AA because Buck was next up.This is not about Buck who has been good this is about he had 3 lefties to bring in to face Gorman and he didn’t do it.He stuck to his script and it cost big time.
