News and Notes

Reds sign Justin Wilson

The return you’ve all been waiting for with the Cincinnati Reds…. Justin Wilson is back! The lefty pitched for Cincinnati in 2021 and 2022, but underwent Tommy John surgery early in the 2022 season and hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since. He opted out of a minor league deal with the Dodgers a few days ago and is now with the Reds. We’ve got more on Wilson and the deal in our piece from earlier today if you want to check it out.

Cardinals extend Oli Marmol

The St. Louis Cardinals finished in last place in 2023. With a 71-91 record, it was their worst season since 1995 and their only losing season in the last 15 years. So today they decided to extend their 3rd-year manager, Oli Marmol. The manager prior to Marmol was Mike Shildt, who went 252-199 and took the team to the playoffs in each of the three years he managed them full time (he took over mid-season in 2018), but was fired after the 2021 season. He was hired as the San Diego Padres manager for the 2024 season.

There’s rain in Goodyear. While the team has not announced anything yet, the tarp is on the field and rain appears to be in the area for the next 2-3 hours. Stay tuned.
