Elly’s hot start? The average looks good but he’s striking out 45% of the time if the stats are to be believed. Given contact is the big question with him I don’t find that encouraging.

Small sample size. His BA alone would be a good OBP, and he’s walking a fair amount, too. Maybe he’ll cut down on the K’s, but if he doesn’t and still gets on base over 40% of the time–with some power–it won’t be a tragedy for the team.

Small sample size is correct which is why saying he is hot is meaningless as well. His OBP won’t be over 40% if he is striking out 40% of the time, never happened in history and never will. That said, it is a small sample size, just pointing out that hot start is misleading. If he bats .260, walks 10 percent of the time with that speed and power he’ll be incredibly valuable.

Are you factoring in the position he’s playing?
