Brett Kennedy

Today will be the third appearance in the big leagues this season for Kennedy – the first year he’s been in the big leagues since 2018. He made a spot start for the Reds on July 4th against Washington and picked up the win while allowing four runs in 5.0 innings. A week ago he threw 2.0 shutout innings in relief against Pittsburgh.

Much of his time this season has been in Triple-A, but his splits between the big leagues and the minor leagues are quite similar. Lefties and righties hit for nearly the same average and have nearly identical slugging percentages. Lefties have walked less often, so they’ve got a lower on-base percentage.

Jose Berrios

After dominating in July (1.84 ERA in five starts), Berrios has not been all that good in his two August starts, giving up seven earned runs in 10.0 innings on 15 hits – including three home runs – and a hit batter.

The splits for Berrios are typical. Right-handed hitters don’t hit nearly as well as lefties do. Righties are hitting just .218, rarely walk against him, and don’t hit for much power. Lefties, though, are hitting for a good average, walk as a solid clip against him, and they are hitting for a little bit of power.

Luke Weaver released

The Reds officially released Luke Weaver today after he cleared waivers.

Vladimir Gutierrez has his elbow evaluated

The Reds called Vladimir Gutierrez back off of his rehab assignment earlier this week when he felt pain in his elbow. Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting today that he’s going to have that elbow evaluated. Gutierrez is recovering from Tommy John surgery and had made five rehab outings between Arizona and Louisville.

I have Apple TV+, but last year, when the Reds were on, I still couldn’t pick them up. Turns out my Apple box was “old generation” and couldn’t access the sports package. Had to spend another $150 or so to get an updated box. I can see myself in few years, on the phone with one of my kids asking them to come over and turn my tv on for me (as I salivate down my shirt)

It is working here for me right now. I dropped it about 2 months ago but saw on X (Twitter) today a 2-month free trial for new and “returning” members. I clicked on the hook and when I got to Apple TV it said I was good to go!

I am going to enjoy the game first but check overnight that somewhere in the fine print I didn’t agree to “reactivate” my membership and automatically be charged before 2 months have elapsed. 😉

  1. LT

Reds riding the most famous Kennedy today. Opportunity to gain ground in both WC and division. Just need Votto or CES to get some hits to drive in TJ and MM. Bottom of order, see if TS can help Benson and Fairchild out.

  2. Beaufort Red

I guess EDLC 3rd, Votto 5th and Stephenson 7th is Bell’s idiotic idea of a proficient lineup. Look how long he kept EDLC at lead off before he acknowledged it wasn’t working. Not verbally of course just dropping him to the 3 spot. Would love it just once if we had our best lineup in a game.

        @BR

        We have a winner

I might hit McLain 2 and Benson 3 to break up the rh lh but friedl steer mcLain and Benson are the Reds top 4 hitters

I particularly like Votto DH and 1b Steer

        Well done

      • Ted Alfred

Beaufort Red Nailed it…too bad we’ll never sctually see it. Having Benson batting 8th is dum…. having Elly hitting third is even dumber. Benson at 2 has made sense for about 3 months….but not to Bell. McClain has proven to easily be the best overall hitter, so putting him in the premium rbi spot makes sense, at least to most of us. This really isn’t that hard, but David Bell is very thick headed and he thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room, so he likes to constantly do his goofy lineups “because he knows stuff”. Like his Triple A lineup Tuesday to avoid any lefty on lefty matchups, that worked out well. I think we got a couple guys into scoring position that entire game. That was the game where he defended Elly’s moronic base running in the 6th that killed the only decent scoring chance we had.

    • Melvin

Just listened to the latest podcast of The Riverfront. Here’s pretty much a direct quote. “David Bell must put a lot of creative energy in to making out the worst lineups possible”. 🙂

      • Ted Alfred

Funny and sad at the same time… mostly because it rings so true.

    • LDS

As I’ve said, Bell couldn’t make a decent lineup if he only had nine choices to make and everyone was a switch hitter. He doesn’t pay attention to numbers.

Subscribe to apple TV to watch tonight’s. Reds in the thick of the playoff chance/division. What a fun, frustrating, enjoyable, amazing season so far.

  4. TR

This is a weekend for the Reds to gain ground on the Brewers. They lost again to the Dodgers and now face the tough Texas Rangers. The Reds lead MLB in stolen bases. Keep it up. It’s a key factor in upsetting the opposition.

  5. Mark Moore

I set up an account so I can watch. For all my grousing about MLB “stealing” from me, I did want to watch this. I thought I had checked previously and that we were done with this alternate network nonsense … which would mean they pulled a fast one and bumped the game over to Apple.

Regardless, I’ll be in my seat hoping their pitcher performs to his recent track record and we actually hit and play like we’re capable of playing. It’s going to be a long week next week without much ability to watch games, so I really want to see us get ahead this weekend and lower my overall angst and memories of 2021.

Of we go to kick some Bluejay Tailfeathers!!

  6. TJ

40 games left. Looked at the remaining schedule. Hopefully there are some sweeps against the Cardinals, pirates, or tigers. I’m thinking they will go 24-16 which will get them to 87 wins. It might be enough to get into the playoffs. Cubs lose to KC. Are the Cubs going to play down to their lesser opponents? I’m hoping so. As I’ve read on this site…..”Cubs will cub it up”

    • Mark Moore

Bernie faces the Rangers, so that’s hopeful.

    • LT

Yeah, on paper, Cubs should gái ground and take over division lead within the next 10 games, but it is the Cubs were talking about here.

    • Melvin

You’re right. Didn’t realize Cubs already lost. Cool. 🙂 We’re now tied with them in the lost column.

      • LDS

This is where the Reds show whether they have what it takes. The Cubs have lost. Do that go for the throat or play the Bell “no hurry” game?

  7. Indy Red Man

Something about a Kennedy and grassy knolls that worries me

    • Indy Red Man

Dirt knoll in this case anyway. Interested in this broadcast team

    • Melvin

lol Audio not too good on this broadcast.

    • Daytonnati

As long as he tries to go inside, “back and to the left … back and to the left … back and to the left ….”

    • Ted Alfred

I’ve been asking for Kennedy to be up here as the long guy or replacing Weaver as the fifth starter ever since he started at Washington. His numbers weren’t great that game but he got unlucky in his last inning/6th inning and gave up two more earned runs that really weren’t his fault. He threw a lot of strikes and didn’t get hit that hard and it seems like that’s how it’s going tonight although I’m not watching the game due to the Apple TV thing.

  8. Indy Red Man

Vlad 2nd in hard hit outs. MLB needs one more stat though….how much does your spray chart vary? You can kill the ball, but if it fits that spray chart you’re most likely out

  9. LarkinPhillips

There’s already been more silence in this broadcast than an entire game with Sadak.

Sorry, I’ll show myself out. I just had to make the joke.

    • Melvin

I just heard the ball hit the catchers glove. Cool. 😀

    • Indy Red Man

Not a single “gotta let it eat” either

    • Mark Moore

      +500

Definitely not impressed with the team calling the game so far.

      • Mark Moore

But it cannot be worse than Sadak or that terrible YouTube crew of a year ago.

      • LarkinPhillips

+1000 on that YouTube crew. That was one of the worst crews I’ve ever heard!

  10. Mark Moore

OK. Little bit of trouble, but Kennedy worked out of the jam. Now to light up the night with some Crooked Number action.

  11. Jim Walker

I love how these guys like Brett Kennedy so often seem to have a countenance that reflects their struggles in professional baseball. He’s 29 according to BBRef but his looks say 29 going on 50.

  12. LarkinPhillips

I am sure the new style fans love this broadcast, but there are constant stats from the broadcasters and on the screen. It’s too much for me.

    • Mark Moore

Yeah. Not a fan of all that. It’s like they “try too hard” and won’t let us just watch the game.

    • Melvin

Better than hearing them from Sadak ALL NIGHT LONG.

    • jazzmanbbfan

I’m 68 but it hasn’t bothered me, at least through 5 innings.

  13. Mark Moore

News is over, so the game is on the bigger screen now. I probably need to go put on my City Connect hat, don’t you think?

EDLC got hosed on at least one of those calls. Saw the same against the Jays in the first inning as well. Just more fuel on the fire to burn down the wretched Chumpire system in some way.

    • LarkinPhillips

      Challenge system. I love it.

      • Mark Moore

        Only the hat tonight, Melvin.

And I didn’t pony up for the jersey. Just a t-shirt.

  14. Daytonnati

Kirk’s strike zone is like six inches.

  15. Mark Moore

Also the mic’d up Chumpire is annoying to me. Somewhere along the line, I really did get old.

  16. Indy Red Man

Yeah we had to start Weaver all #$&’n season because we can’t have guys putting up 2 zero’s to start the game. Not saying Kennedy is great or anything, but I bet he’d be no worse then 5.40 or something

  17. Mark Moore

Now I’m wondering if the “color guy” has ever watched our Reds play. He’s saying “they do not chase” and “stay in the zone” in terms of plate discipline. Well, a couple of the guys are that way, but … 😮

    • Mark Moore

Of course, Steer is one who shows great discipline. If only we had another guy with that particular skill batting somewhere closer to the top of the order.

  18. Mark Moore

No, Joey. You offered up at one way out of the zone. That one was most definitely a strike.

  19. LT

How many times Votto did that in his career?

    • Mark Moore

Seems way to frequent of late. But I was taken to task for even hinting that he wasn’t contributing like he could if he were playing more like he did a couple years ago.

  20. Indy Red Man

I expected more out of CES, but it’s not easy. They go away and get ahead of him almost every ab

    • Mark Moore

I know we’re supposed to be patient, but the drop-off was quick and very steep as I see it.

  21. Mark Moore

Nice way to work the BB from TySteve. Run the pitch count up and give Benson a chance.

  22. Jim Walker

That was a good PA for TS. He got the call ABS challenge system would have rung him up on but then did not let it go to waste.

    • Indy Red Man

Still had almost every pitch middle-away and did nothing. Used to be his meal ticket

  23. Mark Moore

    4 K’s already … but our guys don’t chase 😛

They do sometimes watch the 3rd one go by right down Broadway.

    • LarkinPhillips

Someone should tell them that batting average on a strikeout is 0. At least putting the ball in play you have a shot.

  24. LarkinPhillips

The note is out across the league that if you fall behind in the count against the Reds, throw an off speed pitch and the Reds will swing out of their shoes guessing a fast ball.

  25. Indy Red Man

    Cubs lost
    SF @ Atlanta
    Milw @ Texas
    Miami @ LA

C’mon boys! This should be a good night!

  26. Indy Red Man

Hard hit ball but Votto has the range of a pregnant sloth

    • Mark Moore

      +5,000

About the same as the Manatee with a glove on his flipper.

    • Mark Moore

I’m thinking he’ll have enough to use them as doorstops by the time he hangs up his spikes.

  27. Mark Moore

Out of another jam. Nicely done on defense.

    But what about some OFFENSE???

  28. LT

Way to battle Kennedy. Weaver lacked that battle spirit for surety

  29. Mark Moore

Anyone else find the 3-D graphic figure guys creepy? 😮

  30. LarkinPhillips

Good Ab by the 12 year old. Let’s cause some chaos friedl.

    • Mark Moore

He tried. Berrios took it off the hand. And now we get to hear all about it first-hand.

  31. Mark Moore

    Attaboy Stewie!!!

Oh and the in-game interviews from the “sideline blonde” … definitely not something I like to have interrupting the game.

    • Melvin

      Especially interviewing David Bell. 🙂

      • Mark Moore

That could put the entire audience to sleep.

  32. RedAlert

Kennedy living a charmed life right now ….. dude behind every batter and getting hit hard – don’t believe he’s long for this game

  33. Mark Moore

Stewie had to hold up for just a moment to make sure that didn’t get caught. Otherwise, we’d have 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

  34. Indy Red Man

Our bats are just slow for some reason. Berrios is solid, but shouldn’t just be blowing guys away? Beating up Thor means nothing

    • Mark Moore

The Thor we faced is now a minor deity … 😀

Kind of like the “god of low rumbling storms at least 20 miles away”

    • jazzmanbbfan

Seems to me that he’s changing speeds and keeping the hitters off balance. He looks pretty good to me.

    • LarkinPhillips

      Two homeruns. Just both foul.

  35. Mark Moore

Close, but just loud foul balls. Nothing to show for the efforts except some more K’s.

  36. Roger Garrett

Pitcher just doing what the scouting report says to do.Slow stuff, show them a fastball and more slow stuff.Until they adjust it will not change.Young guys get up here cause they can hit a fastball or a cement mixer left up but slow stuff down and off the plate well.

  37. Dennis Westrick

Here we go again! Five (5) strikeouts by Reds “batters” thru 4 innings! Being No-Hit to boot!

  38. LarkinPhillips

Let’s bust the no hitter up here and put up some crooked numbers!

  39. Roger Garrett

Reds can win the Central if they hit.Plenty of games left and pitching help is on the way.Miss India and Fralely for sure but just have to start winning at home when your starter keeps us close.

  40. Dennis Westrick

Eight (8) strikeouts so far! Ridiculous!

    • Mark Moore

Well, he’s a Cy Young type guy, right? 😮

  41. Mark Moore

Always warms the cockles of my heart when our boys can make an average pitcher look like Cy Young reincarnated.

  42. Mark Moore

How does the 1st Base Chumpire miss that call that badly?

  43. Dennis Westrick

If Bell was managing the Blue jays, this would probably be Berrios’ last inning even though he’s pitching a no hitter!

  44. Roger Garrett

Buck in against the heart of the order.I am out.Hope he gets them but he has been bad for awhile.

  45. RedsGettingBetter

The best of the Reds game is Brett Kennedy’s performance nothing more…so far…

  46. Mark Moore

Buck got lucky on that cement mixer he just offered up.

  47. Kevin H

What a great pitching match up. Kennedy made a good jays team look average.

Berrios keeping reds hitters off balance. So far a good solid game.

    • Mark Moore

Kennedy worked out of a couple jams, but he also gave us 5 solid innings of work. I’d take that every time from a #6 kind of guy.

      • Ted Alfred

I’ve been wondering out loud since that start at the Nationals why he didn’t get another shot…it just never made sense to me. He throws strikes and he doesn’t look like he’s intimidated, so how do you keep starting Weaver when this guy’s been available the whole time… makes no sense. Bell probably just liked Weaver.

  48. Dennis Westrick

The most important game to win in a 3 or 4 game series is game 1. It is doubly important for a team, like the Reds, in contention for a playoff spot! But, you can’t score if you can’t hit!

  49. Dennis Westrick

Well, there goes the Perfect Game!

    • Andrew Brewer

Yeah, I figured the same… but it didn’t happen.

  50. Mark Moore

    OK, that’s a start.

Now, Joey … you have ONE JOB HERE. Don’t leave us hanging.

  51. Dennis Westrick

And now the No-Hitter is gone!

  52. VaRedsFan

Votto needs to poke to left like last game.

  53. Dennis Westrick

I’m OK with Bell subbing a right-handed batter for Votto!

    • Andrew Brewer

I was too, but who did they have ? Lookin’ grim this evening.

  54. Jim

Chances for Votto to get a hit against a left handed pitcher when we need a hit is 0000001 %

  55. Dennis Westrick

Can’t believe Votto swung at the first pitch! New pitcher might warrant at least taking a pitch!

  56. Mark Moore

Gibaut … he of the rubber arm.

    • Andrew Brewer

Gibaut sets ’em down 1-2-3 ! But the Reds have only one hit on the evening.

  57. west larry

Kennedy threw 75 pitches, Then a 10-pitch inning by Farmer-why are we burning through so many pitchers with low pitch counts?

    • Mark Moore

The answer is … HDTBell. He knows things nobody else does. We must trust his “book”.

    • Harry Stoner

I guess a plus thing is Kennedy pitched well again.

IIRC in his first start he went 5 innings, got into some trouble and the BP gave up his runs.

Maybe Bell playing it safe, or maybe he’s “managing” again.

In any case, Kennedy > Weaver, or so it seems, so far.

  58. Mark A Verticchio

The Reds biggest offensive problem of late is that nobody can get a big hit, Votto goes after 1st pitch.

    • Mark Moore

The trying for “big hits” is the problem as I see it. They will come naturally if they just increase the hits period. Kind of like we were playing before the ASG break.

  59. Mark A Verticchio

The biggest downfall of this season has been the hitting and some late losses.

  60. Mark Moore

Complete Little League play there for the cheap double play.

    • Old-school

      Not watching w/ apple

Why was Benson not at first if pop up

Was it a soft liner? And no mans land for both runners?

      • Mark Moore

Because he didn’t run it out.

  61. Mark A Verticchio

Why in the world is Bell letting Benson swing 3-0?

    • Mark Moore

“We’re not going to change things around” or something like that.

  62. Andrew Brewer

Can somebody translate what just happened. I’m on gamecast.

    • Andrew Brewer

It says popout into dbl play, First to Second to Shortstop.

    • Mark Moore

Benson hit a mile-high pop-up and didn’t run it out. Vlad “dropped” it and got the DP.

    • Melvin

Benson didn’t run. Pop up to first. First baseman let the ball drop. Double play easily.

  63. Melvin

Benson with boneheaded base running there.

    • Andrew Brewer

it also says Stephenson out at Second.

      • Mark Moore

Tag play because he was forced off 1st base after Vlad let it fall. He was completely hung out to dry.

  64. Mark Moore

Anyone else nervous with Sims, even though it’s a clean inning and he got the first batter?

  65. LarkinPhillips

They have a shut down 8th and 9th inning guy. We have the opposite with Lucas Sims.

    • Mark Moore

In the olden days, it would have been our LOOGY right now.

  66. Mark Moore

Terrible call on the checked swing.

  67. Mark Moore

Oh we got VERY lucky on that. Vlad wanted to put it in the Ohio River.

    • Mark Moore

Surprisingly, my BP isn’t skyrocketing. Good meds, I guess 😛

  68. RedsGettingBetter

    this game already got dramatic

  69. Melvin

Okay. I was wrong last inning. NOW is the time to score. 😉

    • Andrew Brewer

I like his delivery. Thanks for the explanations above. I get it.

  70. Mark Moore

Oh for crying out loud!!! Now Ted Barrett is on to explain away stupidity?

One more reason to dislike the “alternate network coverage”.

  71. Melvin

Our team needs to at least be refreshed on base running situations. I know they’ve been playing baseball all their lives but man they sure look stupid at times this year. Manager NEEDS to address/fix that.

      • Melvin

One out. Runner on first. There is no infield fly rule in that situation. High pop up to first baseman. Benson DID NOT RUN to first. First baseman realized it and let the ball drop. Hung Stephenson out to dry. Touch first and tag the runner, who had to hold because of the pop up, for the easy double play. BONEHEADED. Big play especially in a game like tonight.

      • Mark Moore

Outbreak of stupid courtesy of Benson.

    • ChrisInVenice

Why is that not infield fly rule??

      • Mark Moore

IF fly rule, basically is “first and second occupied and less than 2 outs”. It assumes the batter will run out the pop-fly. Silly assumption that time.

      • Melvin

Has to be two runners on at least. 1st and 2nd or 1st, 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs.

  72. Andrew Brewer

    Swanson with a nasty splitter…

  73. Daytonnati

Maybe Elly with a little Friday Night magic?

  74. Harry Stoner

McLain well on his way to being the kind of player that other teams’ fans hate.

    I like it.

    • Mark Moore

I’ll take that for as long as we can hold on to him.

    • Melvin

…and the kind of player EVERY team would LOVE to have.

  75. Mark Moore

Both teams making a lot of kindling and toothpicks tonight.

  76. Andrew Brewer

Swanson got him with the heater…
We’ll see Diaz for the 9th.

  77. RedsGettingBetter

Reds are missing many chances to score… Hopefully it won’t haunt..

  78. Mark A Verticchio

Once again they fail to come up with a big hit, becoming all to common.

  79. Amarillo

I know Sadak isn’t the favorite of many people on this site, but I think we are blessed in comparison to these Amazon commentators.

    • Mark Moore

The entire broadcast with all the “extras” is annoying. And with my MLB.tv feed, I can listen to the WLW audio overlay so I don’t have to deal with Sadak and his proclivity to use every word he packed into his briefcase that day. But he’s definitely a better option than these guys. They rank right down there with the YouTube crew from last year.

  80. Mark Moore

OK. Let’s just win it in the 9th and forget about extras … ‘kay?

  81. Melvin

I’m thinking walk off HR by Votto, CES or somebody. 🙂

  82. RedsGettingBetter

The Reds has shutout the Blue jays but the game continues…

    • Melvin

If only our pitching was better tonight. 😉

  83. VaRedsFan

How about some walkoff friday magic….again?
Like at least 2 other friday games this year.

  84. Mark Moore

Votto somehow gets on, you have to PR for him … right? I mean, even Newman.

  85. Melvin

Poop. Votto has hit it hard tonight.

  86. Brian Rutherford

As Joe Nuxhal used to say, we got “a good ole good one”. Let’s hope the good guys pull it out in the end.

  87. Harry Stoner

That’s why we all were lobbying to bring up CES.

Bright future ahead for the young man….and the Reds.

    • Melvin

That’s right! He could have made a difference in all those one run losses….like TONIGHT!!!

  88. Andrew Brewer

HOme Run ! By the Encarnate one !

    • Ted Alfred

For all of us who are clamoring that he should have been called up for the first series with Milwaukee before the All-Star Game… yeah, it’s kind of important to have a guy like CES on your team who can win the game with one swing. That was a huge at bat, maybe the biggest AB of the season so far. You can see his confidence growing…. he could have a monster last 6 weeks of the regular season…huge win

    • Andrew Brewer

This game could not have ended better for us. Strand should be playing first, and Votto DHing, unless there’s something I’m missing. (Fans want to see Joey on the field ?)

    • RedAlert

Bullpen shined tonight …. Almost no free bases . I’ll give Kennedy credit also … nice job !

    • Harry Stoner

      Ha!

I was relentless in pulling for the Reds to bring up CES, along with many folks here, in the face of some confused opposition to the idea.

Having a few bats with the ability to wrap things up quickly is crucial.

      Celebration.

  89. Mark Moore

That’s the way to start a series against a contender. Took long enough, but we go it.

  90. Melvin

Rangers just hit a two run homer and only trail by one now.

    • Melvin

Just hit another HR. Rangers tied with Milwaukee in the 4th. 🙂

  91. Harry Stoner

Was that CES’s first MLB walk-off?

    Not sure….

    A memorable one.

    • Andrew Brewer

That’s only his third homer, so I’m guessing it’s his first walk-off win…
      Very memorable for sure…

  92. Jason Franklin

Against an ex-Deadbird for good measure. 🙂

    • Mark Moore

Isn’t their closer the same guy they’ve had all season? The former WLB pitched in the 7th I believe.

      • Jason Franklin

Yes sir. Jordan Romano is pretty good. I think they just activated him. Probably didn’t want to over use him that soon.

  93. RedsGettingBetter

Encarnación-Strand finishes it as these kind of games typical finalizes after 0-0 in the 9th… BOMB..

  94. Mark Moore

Anyone not watching the video feed, at least go find that blast when you can. He completely sat on the heater and murdered it.

    • Jason Franklin

I don’t have access to the games, but will check it out. Did the catcher visit him before that pitch?

    • Rick

I caught it on the official site gameday summary.
That he did. Dead red, and crushed it!

  95. Doc

Why were people lobbying for a starter for Kennedy? He was effective in Louisville. Turns out he matched a Blue Jay pitcher inning for inning in the stat that counts…score.

    • Jason Franklin

Maybe we found a good long reliever? Hope so. GO REDS.

    • Mark Moore

Kennedy did a fine job tonight. He’s a marginal #5-6 guy, but you need that kind of pitcher in your arsenal anyway.

    • Harry Stoner

Not sure I get your question…..

You mean lobbying AGAINST Kennedy starting?

Some folks may have been, but not me or others.

He pitched well in his shakedown cruise and even better tonight.

Some of us have been lobbying for him to return for weeks in lieu of Weaver.

Plus he’s got a great back story.

Run him out there again. He faced a talented lineup and did great.

    • Harry Stoner

      Ah….sorry, now I get it.

A “starter” as in a one inning kickoff.

No need for that….I thought folks were lobbying for that with Weaver.

      Doesn’t make sense..

Kennedy has pitched one start in MLB .

      And he threw well.

Pretty hard to come to that recommendation based on that.

  96. Mark A Verticchio

Now that was a big big big hit.

    • Harry Stoner

Reds’ locker room must be exploding.

      Big, big win.

      Young Turk hits the walkoff.

No name pitcher sets it up and the BP nails it.

      Diaz buying dinner.

  97. Redgoggles

So now who they gonna send down for Hunter Sunday?

Kudos to Kennedy for setting the tone in Game 1. He is the polar opposite of Weaver. Meh-stuff, but competes. Oh, and doesn’t give up 5 runs a start.

    • Melvin

We didn’t score many runs for him though like we usually did for Weaver. lol

    • Tampa Red

It’s going to be Busenitz, 100%.

    • Harry Stoner

Reds could send Kennedy down, based on their track record.

      It wouldn’t surprise me.

Busenitz has pitched well, but it sure would be great to have a “long man” around even if it goes against Bell’s one-and-out prediliction.

  98. Jeremiah

Reds win! I had been thinking CES maybe wasn’t quite ready for the Bigs recently, shows what I know. Could CES become like a Pete Alonso? He reminds me of him a bit, that would be fun to have a bigtime power hitter like that on the Reds.

  99. Mark Moore

The Apple TV studio team is equally as bad as the booth team. Just hard to listen to for more than 30 seconds. One former player at least, but I have no idea who he is.

We’re done with these alternate carrier games for 2023 now, right? I’m glad I did the trial account for tonight and watched the game, though. Can’t deny that.

    • Harry Stoner

Mark, I bailed on the Apple TV option for that very reason.

I’d rather listen to Dennis do the play by play.

    • Dennis Westrick

I refuse to own any Apple products or contribute to Apple+

      • Melvin

Don’t you like apple pie? 😉 Are you an American?

  100. LT

Hopefully this win brings back the winning mojo. Huge win.

  101. Mark Moore

It was me wearing my City Connect hat, wasn’t it?

  102. TR

Encarnacion-Strand, Kennedy, and the bullpen: Well Done!

  103. Ghostrunner_onthird

CES with the Hal King-like moment. I have a funny feeling a couple of weeks from now we’re gonna reflect on this game again.

  104. Roger Garrett

@Ghostrunner Nope you were right it was 1973.Looked it up
