Opening Day will be March 28th against the Washington Nationals.
The Reds will face off against the New York Yankees on July 4th in New York.
I have no idea why the Reds have September 3rd off in the middle of a home series against the Houston Astros, but if you do, let’s hear it.
Welp, no opening day on TV for me unless ESPN does me a solid… Raleigh, NC blacked out for Nats and O’s.
Still better than all games being blacked out for those of us living in Cincy/NKY area.
Blacked out on what service though? Most major carriers there have the Reds as part of any basic package.
MLB presumes that the Nats and O’s should be part of any cable package, or at least any “sports” package for the good people of Raleigh, NC. And that is flat out bull-spit…
I’m guessing the off-day in September somehow results in a more convenient travel schedule across the Majors, but how it does that is beyond me. What really streams my broccoli is the whole “Off-Day After Opening Day” tradition. That is the one day when fans (especially those whose teams WON on Opening Day) are positively salivating for more baseball. Can we get rid of that forever?
I don’t have a problem with the Reds having the day after Opening Day off. It actually came in handy in 2018 when the team had Opening Day rained out. With all the festivities involved in Cincinnati, having the off day enables an easier and earlier decision for team officials.
Anyone have any idea when MLB will release the Spring Training schedule? Really want to make it out to Goodyear next March
Why do the schedule makers place cold weather teams against cold weather teams in march and early April? Couldnt Reds play Brewers at Milwaukee with their dome? How bout @ the Marlins or @ Braves or @ Texas teams instead of @ white sox and @ Philly? No one wants to go to a baseball game in early April when its 44 degrees and wet and windy
Outside Opening Day/Night, almost no team draws as well the first few weeks of the season as it does when school is out and summer is in full swing. Atlanta and the other Southern or domed-stadium teams, then, would give up substantial revenue if they had to play a disproportionate number of home games in the early part of the year.
Anyone seen any credible Reds’ trade rumors floating around. I saw Mozeliak said they were trading down payroll for prospects. Flaherty is young enough and having a bad enough year that he may be worth a prospect outside of the top 10, conditioned on striking a deal with Flaherty prior to the trade, as they did with Gray.
Haven’t seen anything for the Reds. But scrolling through Twitter, I came across fan rumors that Juan Soto could get traded to Philadelphia (apparently started by the fact that he flew back from Seattle with the Phillies’ All-Stars because the Padres’ next series is there). That’s all I’ve got.
You basically won’t see anything credible until three days before, and even then teams usually don’t leak the deadline in the same way they leak the offseason.
Krall did say he was actively looking for pitching and the prices are too high. I trust him at this point.
Doug, that September 3rd off date comes after the Astros have played 18 games straight without a day off. Maybe they schedule makers decided 18 games in a row is the upper limit of what they’ll allow a team to play without a break.
But why they couldn’t just let them play just 2 more games and have the off day on the 5th is kind of baffling.
Or just give them the Monday off and have them play 3 games in a row against the Reds after the off day instead of having them start the series against the Reds, have an off day, then play two games against the Reds to follow that off day. An off day in the middle of the series that isn’t the home opener…. I don’t recall every seeing it before.
Did MLB decide to schedule every team on Labor Day (and Memorial Day and July 4th) next year? Would be nice if they did, but I haven’t checked other teams.
I’m sure it is because 9/2 is Labor Day and they want everyone playing on Holidays.
Maybe the Astros begged for an off day in Cincy? : )
RCL is probably right. They play on Labor Day and not on a night after Tuesday school. Houston will have played that Sunday afternoon, so they could have a late afternoon or early evening start easily enough. Plus, I think the rule is that 18 days is the max number of consecutive days to play, barring rain-outs etc.
Some people were losing it this year, when the Reds didn’t have a Memorial Day game.
That off day has to be to go to the local Menards and get more garbage cans 😀
This Reds schedule seems to be very tough through April and May, after that, June isbalanced, July presents some tough games too , all ends with August and September getting easier the schedule, of course this is based on the actual teams performances but the next year will be really another tale…
I too felt like the first month and part of May seemed like a pretty tough schedule as well. August looks like our easiest month.
Course this is all based on what teams are doing this year. A lot can change at the Deadline and in the Offseason.
I learned in September 2021 to barely consider strength of schedule after that Reds team had the easiest schedule that month and still blew it.
I know this is not really related to this thread but I didn’t know where else to post it. MLB.com is saying the Reds had the best draft this year overall. This sure is great news.
I’m pretty sure that every team ONE holiday off each year, that is either Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day.
Not next year for the Reds because the above shows the Reds playing on all 3 of those holidays – May 27th, Jul 4th and Sep 2nd.
April 8th will be interesting with a total eclipse happening in the Midwest in midafternoon that’s forecasted to shut down the Central and Southern Indiana and the western portions of Ohio. As a responder, we are already in deep prep mode for it. Should be fun traveling to the ballpark that day for a game with highways potentially being in mass gridlock.
Darn, I was hoping to see the Reds play at Fenway. I guess I will have to wait until 2025.
Maybe a concert?
Maybe they have some plans for one of these special days? Like how they are playing games in Europe now, or South Korea? Maybe they want all the games off so that fans can tune into that game. Are all teams off for that day?
With no difference now between the AL and NL and the increased frequency of interleague play, I could see MLB going the route of the NBA with western and eastern conferences.
Dad? Dad? If I’m good can I have baseball back tomorrow?
Reds will certainly have to come out of spring training on track with that April and May schedule. I hope we have a clear roster with this young team so that each starter can get plenty of reps and ABs. Next spring will look different with this deeper talent pool.
The biggest homestand of the year is coming up. The Reds need to start off with at least a series win against the Brewers and then S.F. and Ariz. come in. Like many fans, I’ve anticipated news of offensive and pitching changes but quiet has prevailed. Seems like whatever change comes will happen in the offseason.
