The Cincinnati Reds hit the road this afternoon as they head off to Peoria to take on the San Diego Padres. First pitch is set for 3:10pm ET.

Two more games added to the spring TV Schedule
Two additional spring training games have been added to the Cincinnati Reds schedule. Both games are currently only going to be available on MLB.tv and not on a television station (unless you live in San Diego). You can see the full schedule here.
Arroyo and Graves lead the Parade
Bronson Arroyo and Danny Graves will be the grand marshals of the Opening Day Parade this year. The parade begins at noon and will wind it’s way through parts of downtown Cincinnati, finishing prior to the start of the game at 4:10pm ET on March 30th.

Rooted In Red
Cam Miller made a little video yesterday about the Cincinnati Reds and it felt like something worth sharing
Let's not got caught up in how we measure success, but rather appreciate the now, and never take for granted how truly special baseball in Cincinnati is. The team that puts on that uniform represents Reds Country. Now and forever. We have long been rooted in red. #Reds pic.twitter.com/bwpZQ0uFUF

That could be the starting 8 fielders on opening day, in whatever lineup order – and with 3 catchers, a DH and without Joey at 1b, has anyone answered the question – who is the best defensive 1b on the roster? Casali, Myers, Strand, Steer, other? Or, nobody is that much better than the others?
Stephenson is the best defensive 1B on the 40-man roster.
Im not sure this is true
And that’s when the fight began…. 🙂
It just sounds like an assumption and wishful thinking. We havent seen him there at all so it seems like a pretty huge jump in logic.
May be true, but is TySteve markedly better than the others? Is one of them notably worse than the others? Seems like CES still needs work, but if they’re not going to have a GG candidate, does it matter if it’s a way to get a bat into the lineup? Best bat lineup seems like TySteve at C, and Myers at 1b, and CES a dilemma needing full time defensive work he could get at Louisville instead of 4 ABs a game as DH.
Didn’t he play some at first last season? I recall thinking that he looked pretty good.
There he hits again (CES)
This is beginning to be comical.
With that second-inning triple, he’s now 12-for-18 this spring.
With a 1.965 OPS.
DES is making life miserable for one David Bell. As we all know he loves to play veterans, but if DES continues any where near this pace he will have know choice but to take him north with the big club.
I assume you mean CES (Christian Encarnacion-Strand).
And I’m pretty sure no matter how well he hits, Bell will come up with some excuse why he he can’t be on the MLB roster. It sounded like he was already preparing an excuse when he was talking about him last time, saying that “He hasn’t played in the upper minors yet.”
So we’ll see. But I’m preparing to be disappointed, like I am with most of Bell’s decisions. Bell doesn’t set the rosters, but he does have a lot of input.
CES not looking too hot with the glove so far today.
@tom
Listened to cowboy. Said hes thinking too much and should have had a double play on one and went to one knee on another trying to smother.
Thrall agreed needs some work. But, thats what ST is for
Also with the DH he could take days and work regularly on his glove work at first during the season
but isn’t it refreshing that we aren’t talking about how our backup, jouncy-man catcher’s (Aramis Garcia) spring statistics in 2022 were making it look like he could be our future #2 catcher for a long time – I think he had something like 5 home runs last year and people were losing there minds about how good a hitter he was.
At least we are talking about real, upcoming young prospects hitting well.
CES making the team by batting like he is is about as likely as Stephenson being sent to Louisville for hitting as he is.
Williamson fell behind most of the hitters he faced. If he can overcome that issue, he looks like he’s close otherwise.
Tough luck for Williamson
Dropped foul from Stephenson led to the unearned run, CES boots a DP ball, and then he gets charged with the 2 runs this inning after bell pulls him and Sousa gives up the double.
He wasn’t being hit hard. I have no idea why Bell wouldn’t leave him in a spring training game to finish an inning while in a jam. Seems like something you’d like your pitchers to deal with during spring
Strickland. The wife will need to hide the sharp objectsFirst batter. BOOM.Tie Hame.
Mid season form. Get him out of there. Hes ready for that 7th inning against StL in a 3-3 game.
What are the odds Strickland makes the team? I’ll bet higher than CES.
You aren’t giving Strickland enough credit, MK. It wasn’t only the first batter; it was the first pitch.
Game
Let’s not forget about McLain. He has been on base over 800 times this Spring.
Hendrick doesn’t want forgotten just yet! These young guys are fun to watch
Ball was crushed!
Only getting ESPN gamecast, but the bullpen looks to be in characteristic shape!
Farmer should have been out of the inning without a run. Broadcast said Solak should’ve been underneath the ball. There’s your 3rd out instead of a 2 run double
Solak misplayed it badly. He looked iffy on another fly, too.
I’d rather have Thurston Howell III playing left field, and probably even Lovey Howell.
Solak had a terrible throw from LF a week ago the same game he hit a home run. He threw a Phil Ervin 2 seam special from LF that went 45 feet up the 3b line. He cant play the OF.
Phil Ervin 2 seam special made me laugh pretty good!
Based on their performances thus far, I’d like to see Solak, Strickland, and Pinder in the next round of cuts.
Dont forget Vosler
Id park lopez at 3b edlc ss and McLain 2b in AAA as call ups ready to go
Injuries always happen
CES is a healthy strong 2 weeks away from being my DH and 1b at GABP
I did forget Vosler. But, yeah your plan works. Marte in AA?
I think the Reds beat writers have said that and 3b.
CES and his .600 BA might not be enough to edge out .150 Pinder and his ‘veteran presence’.
‘Veteran presence’ might be this season’s “innings eater” or “year of sorting”.
RLN Hall of famer Max Schrock flies out to nick Solak
Schrock had seen Solak’s earlier “defense” and was hitting to left field on purpose.
Schrock tore up ST in 2021 and 2022.
That unfortunate injury sidelined what might have been a real opportunity on the weak Reds’ team last year.
Curiously Henry Ramos has been very well so far but he has not received more playing time in last games. He could battle the spot with Solak and Pinder but if he does not play enough how could be a fair decision?
He’s playing in the WBC for Puerto Rico.
Good point, I didn’t realize of that. Well , Shall wait for him to get back.
