The Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians are set to begin spring training games this afternoon. While the two teams will both be playing at home since they share Goodyear Ballpark, it’s the Reds who are dubbed the “home team” for rule and record keeping purposes in this one.
Today’s game is on Bally Sports Ohio (Guardians broadcast) and you can also watch on MLB.tv (if you aren’t blacked out). Radio broadcast for today is on 700 WLW. The game is set to begin at 3:05pm ET.

The Reds re-up with 700 WLW
If you are a radio broadcast listener you aren’t going to have to change your habits any time soon as the Reds and 700 WLW will remain partners for broadcasts for at least the next five seasons. The two sides are now set through the 2027 season.
Reds add two players from Mexico
Cincinnati made two more international signings this past week, giving them 19 players signed from the 2023 international signing period for amateur players. The Reds picked up right-handed pitcher Angel Zazueto and first baseman Yael Romero – both from Mexico. You can read more about them at RedsMinorLeagues.com.
Let’s go! Excited for Reds baseball to be back.
MLB pulled broadcast fm my area ?
Fun lineup to watch today! Also the best set of reserves I’ve seen the reds have for a spring training game before. I’m hyped!
Very unusual feeling for me, because I can’t wait to see the starters come out. That’s not normally the case in spring games. Not sure what it says more about, the starter quality or the quality of the young guys.
Looks like the Reds will be on my TV this afternoon! Here’s to kicking off 2023 … even though the BobPhil Clown Consortium says we’re out of everything before we start. Because, where else are we gonna go, right?
😀
Here’s to our young studs finding their rhythm and stroke.
Let’s go reds. It’s sunny and warm-ish and baseball is on. I’ll take it.
Cleveland showing how to play baseball in 2023. Make contact, run the bases and gets runs in.
I supposed my mistake was taking my time with my shower. But at least I got to see Maile nail a runner at 2nd. Very sweet!
Nice comeback from Williamson.
India’s first AB ends with HBP … fitting is that?
And india steals 3b
Looks like that speed work off-season paying off for him.
Then a little luck on that concrete bounce at the plate
“Throw this next one at the bull …”
That’s the way to manufacture a run, JI!
Dang someone tell India this is spring training and we need him for the season.
It’s good to watch baseball again. Pinder hit that one on the screws
Ball was smoked by Pinder. Remains to be seen if he’ll make the OD roster but I think he’ll help the reds win some games this year
This years Drury?
A good start to the year, even if it’s only ST, one out and a runner on 3rd, and the Reds scored. That happened far too rarely last year. And it looks like maybe India meant it when he made his speech earlier this week.
+1,000
FAR too infrequently
India said hes proving everyone wrong. Showed up feb 1 to ST and said hes going to be a vocal aggressive leader with emotion.
Leans into an evoshield elbow hbp, wild pitch to 2b, steals third, head first sac fly for the run. Manufactures a run with aggression. I like it.
Yep. It is game #1 of ST, so some caution is warranted, of course. But I like his approach and attitude.
Reds 3 stolen bases in 1.1 innings and manufacture 2 runs.
Benson brings a different dimension.
Is he a “true” CF candidate, or just “competent” given the GAPB dimensions and it generally playing “small”?
Whoops … and we get a gift run from the Guardrails on a heads up play.
I know, I know … first game. But Maile is showing some poise and a solid arm.
Going to be a lot of stolen base attempts this year. Maile is making each one close. Maile had a .301 OBA last year. Without looking that has to be way better than any backup last year. He will be interesting to watch.
Absolutely agree.
Nice inning by Farmer
They need to run and play defense this year. I also think Benson has potential.
I certainly hope so.
He was a first round draft pick so there is definitely potential.
Definitely a quicker pace to the game. I think I’m going to like that.
Kind of hung that one right at chest level for Quinn. He gave it a ride in that dry, desert air.
Cowboy was saying Fairchild is talented, but he’s kind of a one-trick pony always looking dead red. That’s always going to be a roadblock for him. I’m thinking that’s what I saw in his last AB.
Plus, doesn’t he turn 13 this year?
Those teenage years can be hard on the coach. The rolling of the eyes, stomping out of the room when Fairchild doesn’t get his way etc.
Farmer looked good
Sims is at least healthy and had a good slider, but that fastball got obliterated.
Fan Fav Lopez just made a nice play to save Sanmartin.
Oh Boy.
Noelve Marte has the Stuart Fairchild back foot 6 inch slide with every swing. No good hitter does that.
Game 7 of World Series,3-2 game, Bottom of the 9th, Bases Loaded, 3-2 count and hitter runs out of time and is called for a 3rd strike and Series is over. Wouldn’t that be something?
Oh, it would be something. Losing on a “technicality” would really bring some interesting perspective and commentary.
I think the pitch clock should be suspended when the bases are loaded.
Also, they need to redesign the graphics for the TV scoreboard. Having a huge black box for the pitch count is ugly and obscures the action. Why can’t they just add a small box like a football play clock?
CI3J – but you have to think that by the playoffs, the players would be very familiar with that routine. Anybody still getting dinged for that is just refusing to learn and adjust.
Mark Moore – My issue is not just with playoffs, it’s just in general. A bases-loaded situation is one of the most intense, compelling situations in baseball for the batter, hitter, and audience. In that particular situation, it’s better to have no pitch clock in order to really give both the pitcher and hitter the time needed to mentally prepare for the situation, and it would overall make for a better product. It let’s everyone know this is a “special” situation where a rule is temporarily suspended.
Plus, it eliminates the possibility of a game ending on a technicality and instead puts the onus entirely on what the pitcher and batter do, which is how it should be. I think everyone pretty much universally agrees that ending a game on pitch clock violation is about the lamest possible way a game can end. Talk about hollow victories.
I like the pitch clock and like how it keeps the game moving at a brisk pace. But in a bases loaded situation, I WANT things to slow down to really savor the tension and drama of that moment.
Or maybe a batter gets one warning per game and a team gets a collective 3 warnings. Same for pitchers. Each pitcher gets 1 warning for going past the clock, but the team can only burn 3 collectively.
If its the 9th inning and your team has burned its 3 pace of play warnings and they do it again, well…so be it.
Nice hit by McClain. Too bad it ended up wasted.
Very nice hit. Nice hustle as well.
Cowboy is saying he’d take a full team of McClain type players.
And Scarry McGarry hammers a bullet into the outfield as well.
Sounds like some fun baseball. Like last season won’t be able to watch many games. Don’t have mlb packag or cable. So hopefully YouTube and local channel so at least 4 games. LoL
Oh well as much as I whine, I will be following etc. Etc. Happy spring training all
Right there with you. I’m riding out the subscription from last season (which was a freebie from T-Mobile who I dropped like a bad habit last summer).
Nice to see our bunting skills are picking up right where they left off. 😮
How many ways to score from third with less than 2 outs? 😀
Cowboy is harping on the team needing to learn how to do basic stuff like bunt and move guys over. Can’t disagree with him.
Very nice pick by McClain and an excellent turn by Lopez.
Great play by Mclain and throw by Lopez .
Holy cow
Matt McClain to Lopez to McGarry MLB 6-4-3 dp
That was legit.
McClain wow
Precisely what I thought.
WALK OFF … WALK OFF … WALK OFF!!!
C’mon, RLN friends. Start the chant and make it happen.
Step out of the room for a minute and you miss two innings. This is pretty wild.
Just under 2-1/2 hours by my count
And McClain ends it.
Wow
2 huge plays by the young man
Great play in the field and two solid AB’s – the last one being STELLAR
Oh my word!!!
Mclain making a statement in what 3 innings of work?
Might pull a India and force his way on the team as starting SS. We will see.
That wouldn’t be a bad thing at all in my book
