Chase Anderson
After spending the month before being acquired by the Reds in the bullpen in Triple-A for the Tampa Bay organization, Chase Anderson is building back up as a starter with Cincinnati. In his last outing he threw 56 pitches in 2.2 hitless innings where he walked and struck out four batters.

Adrian Houser
The Reds have faced off against Adrian Houser three times this season and have found some success, scoring 15 runs (10 earned) in the 15 innings he’s been on the mound, but they’ve also lost two of those three games.
The home and road splits aren’t shown below, but they are significant. At home he’s holding batters to a .657 OPS and has a 3.46 ERA (road OPS against is .802 and ERA is 6.14). His splits against lefties and righties are also significant. Lefties hit him very well, with an average over .300 and a slugging percentage closing in on .500. Righties, though, struggle to do much hitting against him – though they do draw a solid number of walks and make plenty of contact.

News and Notes
Art Warren optioned to Triple-A
Cincinnati optioned Art Warren to Triple-A to make room on the roster for Luke Farrell, who they acquired from the Cubs yesterday.
Graham Ashcraft to begin rehab on Wednesday
It looks like starting pitcher Graham Ashcraft will be heading to Chattanooga to start his rehab on Wednesday.
Graham Ashcraft will make his rehab start Wednesday at Double-A Chattanooga.
— Bobby Nightengale (@nightengalejr) September 10, 2022
If you are wondering why Ashcraft is heading to Double-A instead of Triple-A it’s likely because Chattanooga plays at home next week while Louisville is on the road in St. Paul. The Reds (and other teams) prefer their rehabbing big leaguers to play in home ballparks for a variety of reasons.
So, no possibility of a rain-out then … got it 😀
Would love to see Ashcraft back for a couple starts. Too bad for Warren, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, especially this time of year on a team this far underwater.
Like nothing more than to do our part to knock the Brew Crew out of the playoffs.
To know the WLB’s out is better, but the Bernie’s are closer and they are floundering in the deep end of the pool.
*knock*
lopez missing from the lineup again lol…. i see we are not scoring 800 runs straight out the gate
That was a bit painful to watch. Now we need that BIG O to show up again tonight.
As always a walk precedes a HR given up by a Reds pitcher!
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Houser isn’t even throwing strikes and we may not even get a base runner.
Nice oppo double.
Great, quick theft by Jose … and next year that will be 4.5 inches closer, yes?
Barrero heard me.
And then some. Lead to a run.
Better audio/video sync tonight. No idea why it was challenged the last time around.
Nice job by Friedl to SF in Barrero. Just keep that up, boys.
Got a run and ran Hauser up to 46 pitches. That helps. Now to keep the Bernies down in their half of the inning.
My wife is wondering if Joey, TySteve, and TySteve’s wife went back to the Cincy Zoo to celebrate his 39th birthday with Fiona … 😀
Very good at bats that inning for sure after just awful at bats in the first and second.Make him throw strikes and Reds will do damage.Young guys I know and thats part of it as they play more.
Sending down Warren probably made good sense. Keeping Anderson – a little harder to justify. That 2+ WHIP and double digit ERA doesn’t seem like a winning formula. Maybe he settles down and the Reds win this, but right now, I’d bet not.
You have to figure Anderson leaves as soon as Greene is ready to come back.
Hope you’re right. He’s hanging there so far.
OK, so maybe we only get 5 out of Anderson tonight. But if we hold the run count as it is, then we still have a fighting chance. The BP should be fully rested and ready to see it through to the end.
Now let’s chase Hauser!
Nope … Cy Houser that inning.
gotta think that anderson is only here as long as he is needed to sop innings… which he did do here. Reds bats need to show up
Sanmartin had a nice streak in July, but not much since then. Unless something changes, I don’t he’s around in 2023.
“Don’t tHink” – really need that edit capability
Are you looking at his game splits?
Young, lefty reliever pitching well and working it out and you’re ready to give up on him?
We’ve all worked as “results matter!” managers.
Some folks learn to give some things the time they need.
Given up 9 Earned Runs in 30 innings since joining the bullpen. I’ll take that every day.
Maybe a tad generous on that last strike, but we’ll take it.
Bad play by Fraley there. Unfortunately, that’s what we’re getting in the field from him. Just bad judgement to try and dive for that instead of hang back and field it.
Yesterday 17 hits, tonight just 1 , from heaven to the earth. What an unpredictable offense for not to say inconsistent…
Reds are 1-21 with 2 bb
Jose Barrero has the lone hit and one of the 2 walks
That has to be the most animated I’ve ever seen DTBell get. Good for him. Lousy call.
It was lousy.
And with Bernie sliding down again, that’s a Clete for me.
Catch you all tomorrow. Supposed to be rainy here, so I’m pretty much a “shut-in” for the duration. That means no walk (or a visit to the gym) and a grumpier me.
