Mike Minor

If there’s one thing we can say about Mike Minor this season it’s that he’s been consistent. Of course, it’s been consistently bad as he’s managed just two starts this season where he allowed fewer than three runs and at no point at the end of a game he’s pitched has his ERA been under 6.19 and he’s about to make his 14th start of the season today.

Teams don’t put too many left-handed hitters in their lineups against Mike Minor. The ones who do get into the lineup against him don’t hit for much average and they don’t walk or get on base. When they do find hits they tend to have a little bit of power behind them. Right-handed hitters, though, they are doing everything well against Minor as they are posting an average over .300, making plenty of contact, and hitting for elite-levels of power.

Zach Thompson

The Reds have faced Zach Thompson twice this season. In back-to-back starts against the Reds on May 8th and 14th and he allowed three hits and no runs over 11.0 innings while striking out nine batters and walking just three.

Teams have tried to stack lefties against Zach Thompson this season, but it’s righties that are hitting him significantly better this season. Most of that comes down to them having a BABIP that is 83 points higher, but it’s led to big advantages across the board. There’s not much difference in power output or walk rates, but righties are making more contact and hitting far more singles while mostly matching the power that lefties are showing.

Reynolds for Barrero? I’d rather see him, if he “needs” to play, replacing Moose at 1st.

    • Mark Moore

Exactly. Consistency is key for a kid like Barrero to get better. I’m not opposed to a day off, mind you. But does he really need it as opposed to 3M? At least Solano is subbing at 3rd instead of 3M, so that’s a positive.

Let’s get this in before the skies open up and kick us some Pie-rat tails!

    • Jim t

Giving Barrero a day off is probably not a bad thing.

      • Mark Moore

At least we got Reynolds in there. I see him as a serviceable utility guy.

      • LDS

Barrero is 24. It’s hard to imagine that he needs more time off than Votto prior to the injury. This is merely Bell and his little league management style.

      • Jim t

@LDS it’s not a physical rest so much for Barrero but mental. When young players are going bad it sometimes helps to let them take a day to relax.

  2. Mark Moore

Watching the LLWS before our game starts. They are in weather delay due to some lightening around the area. The Orioles and Red Sox are in the house and they’ve interviewed a couple Orioles players plus we’re watching them slide down the hill on cardboard. This is baseball fun at its best, friends. It’s just a joy to watch them interact with the kids … and act like kids themselves.

    • Mark Moore

Jason Varitek and our own Todd Frazier on right now. This stuff might be better than our game today 😀

  3. Melvin

It was a good game yesterday but most of the time these days the Reds aren’t much fun to watch. One thing that I look forward to is watching Aquino, when he plays of course, gun down runners. That’s pretty exciting to me. The throw he made his last start was nothing short of amazing.

    • Mark Moore

That particular tool is a very special talent for him. Now if only he could … 😮

  4. Dennis Westrick

The Reds FO thought they were getting a used Mercedes in paying $10M for Mike Minor! Instead they got a used Yugo from Bobby Bolivia’s Finest Quality Used Cars and Petting Zoo featured in the first Transformers movie!

    • Mark Moore

+10,000 … and that comment might just break the forum 😀

    • dhmorgan

      lol.
Minor Yugo. Another name to add to the list (3M, Farm Dawg, etc.)

      • Mark Moore

        +500

I say we keep it … Minor Yugo it is.

      • Doc

        Minor Yugo = Major mistake.

AA at 28 just doesn’t seem to recognize the pitches, if Gameday is anywhere close to accurate. His arm is phenomenal, but a dozen or so assists are probably not going to offset 50-75 fewer hits.

Barrero at 24 at least has time to recognize pitches, though not much given the SA thundering herd behind him.

    • MadMike

Toyota is probably a better comp. You haven’t owned a Mercedes before ?They have amazingly great engineering in someways, and befuddingly and ridiculously stupid ones in others.

      • MadMike

There should have been a 🙂 in that last msg, the emoji didn’t take

      • Mark Moore

The 2004 Tundra in my driveway with over 220K miles on it would agree wholeheartedly 🙂

  5. dhmorgan

Ya think Fraley likes hitting in PNC Park?
Ya think Solano can hit anywhere?

  6. Bet on Red

So it is safe to say we have one of the three outfielders of the future

    • Mark Moore

Yeah. I’m thinking we need to make him a fixture for a little bit.

  7. Mark Moore

OK, whatever that was it was NOT a bunt … but it would have worked had he kept it fair.

  8. VaRedsFan

    Fraley stays hot. Leadoff HR.
I can’t remember his swing earlier this year, but I’ve noticed the one now has an uppercut to it. Seems to be working.

  9. Mark Moore

OK, Yugo … show us what you can do … aside from tossing BP … 😮

  10. AMDG

Nice start from the Reds. If they can continue to average 1 run scored per inning, they just might score enough to win a game in which Minor is pitching.

    • Mark Moore

Or not … if the Pie-rats can keep pace like that

    • Mark Moore

You mean like an early lead?

Remember, Yugo’s are used to bringing up the rear.

  11. JB

Was the exit velocity over 100 on every ball hit? Minor is terrible.

    • Mark Moore

      Per Statcast …

      101.9
      89.8
      107.3
      94.7
      88.8
      84.1

But they all kind of looked like 120+

  12. PTBNL

After the bottom of the inning batting practice that Minor just gave up (4 hits and two runs and a lucky line drive DP) you mean to tell me the umps still have to check Minor’s hand for a foreign substance????

Yeah, nothing illegal was helping him through that inning.

  13. LDS

So just got here and I see Minor is doing his usual outstanding job. Why exactly is he still starting? Oh, that’s right, he’s in his mid-30’s and makes $10million/year. He has a lock on his roster slot. Same as Moose.

    • Kevin H

Who would you start? Mahle is gone Castillo is gone, Greene is hurt. The prospects are in double A or lower.

Williamson is in triple A. Yet Who knows, again who would you use

      • Doc

        Williamson.

Heck, I’d just as soon see Boyle. At least there would be the element of surprise and entertainment value.

  14. VaRedsFan

2 balls squeaked past Solano. Wondering if Farmer would have had them.

    • Mark Moore

Maybe … I was wondering the same thing. Farm Dawg is a better fielder overall.

  15. Mark Moore

Sorry, folks. AA is who he is. Nobody else thought a change of scenery would help earlier this year. His arm is fantastic and he’s got great speed. But when AB after AB end that way, it appears to be a lost cause.

      • Mark Moore

I hadn’t thought of Stubbs, but that’s an excellent comparison.

    • LDS

Management/coaching problem. Zinter isn’t the guy to fix it. Just like Barrero. He hits two HRs in one game and Zinter struts around saying “I did this”. I don’t think he’s had two hits in a game since then. Why isn’t Zinter taking credit for that? Or the fact that the Reds are in the bottom 5 in walks but top 7 in strike outs. Before you write off AA, change the coaching staff and see if he can be fixed.

      • Mark Moore

My original point was all the other teams had the opportunity to pick him up earlier this season and give him that change of scenery and different coaches. They all passed.

I tend to agree the coaching staff has a hand in this, but if he’s showing clear indication that he won’t take the coaching, that part is on him. He’s cooked his own goose.

      • LDS

Depends on what that opinion is based on, i.e., that he won’t adjust. My bigger concern is that if the coaching staff remains this dysfunctional, it jeopardizes a lot of promising prospects.

      • Mark Moore

LDS – we’re in COMPLETE agreement on the coaching staff.

  16. LDS

Bring up someone from AAA. Minor is 1-10, an ERA over 6.00, and averaging fewer than 6 innings/start. He’s not the “inning eater” he was touted as and he certainly hasn’t been particularly successful. Waive him, pay him off, and learn from the mistake. Or just start forfeiting on the days he’s scheduled to pitch. Less wear and tear on all the apparently fragile young guys.

  17. Beaufort Red

Like Eric Davis said AA is unwilling to make adjustments to his swing. DFA him and give someone the ABs that’s willing to learn. On a side note, why don’t the TV or radio personalities mention what a huge disappointment MM has been.

    • Mark Moore

Welsh is cutting him slack at pretty much every turn. I don’t hear Cowboy doing that, at least not to that extent. I get that certain ones are “in the pocket” of the FO, but when do you stop making excuses for just plain bad.

  18. Beaufort Red

    AA couldn’t carry Stubbs jock

  19. JB

It’s hard to win when you have Minor, Moustakas, Papierski and Aquino in the lineup , who aren’t major league players.

    • Beaufort Red

That’s why I admire Farmet and Solano so much. There not young but they go out there everyday with a lineup that’s of minor league quality and bust their humps every game.

      • JB

Yeah same here. I don’t know why people don’t like Farmer but the guy is a grinder and finds a way. Sometimes you have to throw the analytics out the window and just watch with your eyes.

      • Daytonnati

I think everyone here admires and likes Kyle Farmer. They acknowledge that he is one of the only bright spots on this current team. They just don’t see him as part of the future. He is 32 years old. He is playing in place of several prospects who might become fixtures at SS or 3rd for the next 10 years. He would be a great utility player on a contending team and I hope the Reds figure out a way to keep him if he is happy in that role.

  20. Kevin H

So now Stubbs is okay. I remember how he would strike out and not change anything. Dusty Baker said sometimes you gotta hit bottom before changing. Stubbs didn’t change..

Also this is what happens when trading two starting pitchers during middle of season. Plus Greene being hurt, and no depth at triple A.. Really not sure what some expected when it came to starting pitching after Mahle and Castillo were traded. Not to mention Gray and Miley before them.

    • Mark Moore

I think the “major” theme is that Minor Yugo is taking up space we could use to see what the younger kids might have. And if we choose just to drive the Yugo through the end of the season, that’s okay. But the losing streak with him on the bump isn’t likely to change.

I agree there is not much you can do if you don’t have the personnel. Hence Cessa to the starting rotation.

      • Kevin H

I love the nick name… Hilarious.. With Stubbs I am talking about his strike outs. I just looked at his overall stats and with reds not bad..

      • Mark Moore

Yep. I recall Stubbs was a complete K machine. He got his change of scenery and how did he do with that? 😮

    • JB

We aren’t saying Stubbs is OK. We are just saying he is way better than Aquino. Just his stats and WAR point to that. Take away Aquinos August and the guy is atrocious.

      • Kevin H

After I posted I went and looked and yes Stubbs way better. I was refering to strikeouts, however I agree no comparisons.

I should look at stats before commenting lol

  21. Bet on Red

Moose is not having your malarky today it seems

    • Mark Moore

      +500 😀

The malarky shall tone down for the moment whilst we savor that blast.

    • LDS

Don’t get overconfident and underestimate Minor’s ability to give it right back. As for Moose? As the old saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Watching the highlight clips from last night, watching him running the bases, I thought I was watching a studio wrestler charging the ropes.

      • Mark Moore

LDS … hence my “for the moment” qualifier 😀

      • LDS

I didn’t see yours before posting mine. Maybe Minor will fool us, and the Pirates

  22. Mark Moore

And just when we thought it wouldn’t happen, 3M gets a cookie and creams it. Only the fence at the top of the stands kept it from getting wet.

  23. VaRedsFan

Moose 12 HRs in 32 games at PNC Park

      • Mark Moore

That would be GIVE him to the Pie-rats. Nothing needed in return except for a book of US postage stamps.

  24. Kevin H

So is Farmer a keeper in bullpen? Sanmartin? One hit wonders? What do people think.

    Diaz for sure

    • Mark Moore

I think you keep both and let them mature and adjust.

    • JB

Sanmartin is. Reds haven’t had a good lefty since Chapman. I like Farmer but I think Diaz and Sanmartin are the only 2 in my book that are set.

  25. Mark Moore

    Sidebar comment and question …

If Derek Johnson is such a wizard with pitching staffs, why hasn’t some other, bigger market team poached him?

That dawned on me the other day either during a game or while on a walk. I’m asking it honestly and know many of you have some thoughts.

    • JB

Why hasn’t Milwaukees pitching staff faltered after he left? They are now but that is basically from injuries and loss of Hader has changed roles in the pen.

    • VaRedsFan

The Reds should be poaching the Dodgers pitching gurus.
They have a factory over there.

    • Kevin H

Actually you bring up a valid question. We don’t know if a team has approached him, however in day and age of twitter and social media the likely hood of that being a secrete is not likely.

Mahle did say Johnson helped him after his 12 loss season. other than Mahle not real sure. So in a round about way I have no clue. Maybe he isn’t as good as he thinks he is. That being Johnson lol

    • PTBNL

I think him and Bell are tight. Maybe that’s why he stays. We actually poached him from the Brewers so I guess he is poachable. Who knows maybe attempted poaches have happened and we don’t have the inside scoop. I think he works well with the starting staff, not so much with the bullpen. The starting staff is where the money is?

      • VaRedsFan

His MO seems to be throw has hard as you can, with as much spin as you can….which results in more K’s but less command. Thus high pitch counts, lots of walks, more arm injuries

  26. Old-school

Moose still has a wheelhouse. He obliterated that one.

    • Mark Moore

      Completely crushed it.

      106.5 EV traveling 416 feet

    • JB

Moose stinks. He hit a homer. I remember Aquino hit one once.

      • Mark Moore

Not debating that 3M is way past his expiration date. But we celebrate what we can when we can.

      • LT

Moose might just be on the loose again. A couple HRs, a multi hit game. Who knows. Let’s enjoy while it lasts.

      • Old-school

A tiny wheelhouse low ish middle-in against bad Pittsburgh righty pitching.

  27. Mark Moore

That last LO shot by Chavis was almost 109 mph! My hand would hurt … I think I might drop the ball.

  28. Mark Moore

NYY retired O’neil’s number today. Talk about one that got away.

      • Mark Moore

I believe so … but he was “Bobby” for that season if memory serves.

O’neil hit .300 for his 8 years with those D#*m Yankees. Good for him to get his number retired there.

      • Daytonnati

Wasn’t the story that Piniella wanted him to try and hit for more power and he didn’t want to change his approach?

    • Old-school

Hes still around town and very visible and friendly. He still looks like he could play RF.

      • Daytonnati

Yes, we saw him at a Riverbend concert a few years ago …

  29. Mark Moore

Is it just my eyesight, or is the strike zone a little squirrely today with this guy? I’ll take it when it benefits us, but it has to drive the players nuts.

  30. Indy Red Man

Fraley over Winker. I’ll give Krall props for that one! Saw those half season numbers from last year on Fraley and got a little hyped up. He doesn’t seem to be in run mode, but jog around the bases mode is better anyway. Our offense is so weak that we really need him to play vs lefties as well and see if he can pull off .700 ops vs lhp

    • Kevin H

I say Winker is better than Fraley. I also think its too early to suggest how this trade will work out..

      • JB

Yeah Fraley has been good after coming off the IL. Hopefully it continues.

  31. JB

Castillo goes at 4 today. Ah the poor Yankees should have grabbed him. Toronto has the deficit down to 7. I’m wondering if the Yankees will make the playoffs. Lol

    • Mark Moore

When you consider only Boston has a sub .500 record (by one game) that division will be a fight to the end.

  32. JB

Does it seem that Minor, Dunn as well, flirt with trouble every inning?

    • Mark Moore

Almost … and the deeper in the game they go, the more they flirt. Kind of like a drunken prom date after 10PM.

      • Mark Moore

Thanks, JB. I’ll be here through Wednesday (blackout rules for the Nats games). 😀

    • Doc

Cut Dunn some slack. He’s only had 3 starts with the Reds, and a handful of rehab starts, after a year or more on the injured list. Small sample size alerts need to apply across the board, otherwise Greene is not a keeper.

  33. Mark Moore

On days like this, you really wish you could “bank” some of the excess runs from yesterday and carry them over.

Got to get through the 5th with the lead in any case. Then it can open up and pour.

  34. Kevin H

Amir Garrett seems to have found his form for the Royals. Good for him. Reds could use him for sure

  35. Mark Moore

Welsh and Thrall talking Philly Cheesesteaks … I worked a gig in downtown for several months. Found some great places.

    • JB

Why did you mention that? Love them. I’ve had incredible ones and ones where they were the worst piece of food I ever tasted.

      • Mark Moore

My favorite was at a joint down in the subway/train station below the building where I was working. I have a flat-top griddle and make my own, but nothing tops one from downtown Philly (or some of the suburban gas stations).

  36. Mark Moore

Nice AB by Senzel, especially after his hit the last time. It would appear he can make adjustments.

  37. Kevin H

Another note Lopez gets two hits in last game he played and I think he was hitting in a few others. Yet, no Lopez this series.. I know he isn’t the coming of Tony Gwynn but still…

    • JB

I was going to mention earlier. Hasn’t played since Thursday. Rediculous.

    • Mark Moore

The curse of DTBell’s pre-determined magic line-up book strikes again

    • Mark Moore

Nope. That’s becoming obvious. Maybe Solano at 1B and Farmer at 3B would have been better. But I get giving Farm Dawg a day off. You know he didn’t ask for it.

  38. Mark Moore

Once again, friends, y’all on this forum make our love of the Reds in a major drought like this season bearable. Win, lose, or draw I can count on the discussion to keep me engaged.

That’s 5 from Minor and he’s not throwing constant BP. Dare we press our luck for a 6th? He is an “innings eater” after all, right? (asking that last one for a friend)

    • Mark Moore

And a major thanks to Doug and the crew for all you do. Best fan forum EVER!!

  39. Kevin H

Minor has settled down. Moose with two hits, what is going on right now.. LOL.. Oh and yankees have lost 14 of 18… lol

  40. Mark Moore

Celebrating Sweet Lou and his illustrious base-throwing ability today! 😀

  41. Mark Moore

AA … still baffling … I get he takes the first pitch (though you have to consider the guy just threw 4 straight out of the zone so he might just groove one).

At least he lays off that one as Friedl swipes one.

    • Mark Moore

AA lays off the junk … and great cracks appear in the Earth’s surface.

      • Kevin H

I am tellin ya, something strange going on. With Minor, and Moose and now AA laying off pitches..

  42. Kevin H

Nice back to back walks.. I like Friedl, I hope he gets a shot. Maybe a 5th outfielder?

    • Mark Moore

If he keeps up that kind of plate discipline, yes.

  43. Mark Moore

If I were Pap … The Lettuce Guy would be batting.

    • Mark Moore

Yet he executes the rare Sac Bunt and we have something cooking for Fraley.

    • Mark Moore

Talk about an industrial-sized monkey off his back if that happens.

  44. Old-school

Who is this Jake Fraley guy….against a lefty!

    • JB

They need to play him against lefties and not pull a O’neill .

  45. Bet on Red

Fraley reinforcing the Winker trade and now stealing bases….. Rake Fraley indeed

  46. Mark Moore

Loving me some Fraley on this trip.

So, Kevin H … after a successful Sac Bunt, that steal by Fraley, and Minor’s better outing … are we set for the Apocalypse or maybe an alien invasion?

    • Kevin H

I am thinking yes, I mean can’t explain it any other way. haha.

I am expecting the space ship to arrive at any minute and slap us all… lol

      • Mark Moore

        And then THAT happens???

It’s been nice knowing all of you 😀

  47. Bet on Red

I bet india is happy about that

    • Mark Moore

Quietly up to a 5-game streak for RoY. That will build back the confidence in the sophomore slump season.

  48. Mark Moore

Major mistake by Gamel … open up the floodgates!

  49. Old-school

Enjoying a baseball game on a Sunday afternoon.

Does Diaz have 4 innings in him?

  50. Kevin H

I like Fraley but not ready to crown him the next big thing. Aquino taught me that. lol

    • Mark Moore

Neither am I, but he’s definitely showing us something this season since coming off the IL.

      • Kevin H

        10000 agree

Not taking anything away from what he is doing. Plus I do remember somewhat, what he said when he got traded here. Mad respect for Fraley.

      • LDS

Fraley has a .135 career average against LH’ers. So, he’s at best a platoon guy. Maybe an improvement, but sadly another 1/2 player.

  51. Kevin H

quick RLN, we must stand up against the alien invasion. Mark you with me… who else

    • Mark Moore

I’ll be candid … if 3M gets another hit, I’m out of here. There will be stores to loot.

  52. JB

India looks to have a limp running home.

    • Mark Moore

My wife noted he’s been a bit gimpy of late. Maybe we see Lopez for the rest of this game?

  53. LT

Watching two borderlined AAA teams playing is quite exciting. Lots of hits

  54. Mark Moore

Nice drag bunt by Gamel. He needs to do something to make up for the misplay out there.

  55. Old-school

I am so glad that Tommy Pham is not on this team. Watching friedl or Almora or Fraley in LF is so much better.

  56. Mark Moore

Thrall and Welsh singing the “Sad Ballad of Josh Hader in San Diego” right now. Don’t we all feel sorry for him and his teams?

  57. Bet on Red

Minor getting a win? Moose with a HR, Reds winning back to back game…. some place seems to be freezing over

    • Doc

What’s the old adage about not counting chickens before they hatch? Minor reverts to Yugoslav form, with Gibaut’ help.

    • Kevin H

Sounds like Solano isn’t a 3rd baseman from what you all have been saying. So why not put Reynolds at 3rd lol.. Heck even Moose

      • Mark Moore

I’d take Donnie over 3M. Reynolds is an option, but that means Barrero needs to play (which I’m also fine with).

  58. Dennis Westrick

Always one batter too many with Minor! Bell is either not paying attention or is totally clueless!

  59. LT

Minors did his bad to keep Pirates in the game. Exciting

    • Dennis Westrick

At least Minor maintained his 6+ ERA!

      • LT

He wouldn’t have done his job if he didn’t give up anything less than 5

  60. Dennis Westrick

And just like that the 5 run lead went Poof!

  61. Mark Moore

And we come crashing back to reality

  62. Dennis Westrick

    What? No mandatory walk! Shocking!

  63. Old-school

Cowboy has restored some interest in listening to games.

    • Mark Moore

Interesting … I’m missing him with Thrall on the WLW feed. Welsh is okay, but Cowboy is better. He makes Thrall better.

      • Old-school

        Hes really really good.
Balances high level baseball analysis with folksy stories and self deprecating humor.

  64. Kevin H

Can Diaz pitch 3 innings today?

Farmer, SanMartin and Diaz should be the pitchers today… rest of game

    • Mark Moore

No pitcher, having thrown to a single batter and expended even one pitch in a prior inning shall return to pitch the next inning.

      Book of Bell, 4:23

    • LT

May be 2 inning. I think Bell will throw Farmer out there

  65. Mark Moore

Donnie Barrels doing what he does. Let’s see if 3M has a little left in the tank and at least puts it somewhere that results in a run.

    • LT

Solano has multi hits is Minors gives up 6 runs.

    • Mark Moore

Nope … first pitch crappy pop-up against a brand new pitcher. SMH Extra Hard!!

  66. Dennis Westrick

Farmer threw only 10 pitches in the bottom of the 7th inning! Any chance we see him start the bottom of the 8th?

    • Mark Moore

Did you see my reference to Book of Bell 4:23 above?

  67. RedsMonk65

Reds need to find a way keep Solano. Guy knows how to hit the ball.

  68. Doc

Fraley on base five times. Pretty stout.

  69. Mark Moore

Senzel says, “Nevermind … I’ll handle this one Mr. Moose.”

You have to think Farmer and/or Lopez are biting their tongues with 3M hitting there.

  70. Old-school

Senzel giving some good at bats and stinging some line drives.

Granted, reds playing the pirates so that applies to Fraley,Moose etc…. but that ‘s what you do against bad teams.

  71. Mark Moore

Who gets a shot at the first 3 of the 6 outs we need to Kick this Pig?

    • Kevin H

I am stunned at this development. Farmer did come back out. See Mark, the Aliens are coming…

      • Mark Moore

Perhaps … we must be prepared in any case.

  72. Kevin H

If Reds had a bullpen they would be in 3rd place. Not saying much, but oh well it is what it is

  73. LT

Good to see Senzel hit. Can Reds play Pirates every day until real football starts? Need something exciting to watch.

  74. Reddawg2012

There has to be a place on this team for Donovan Solano next season. Right? Love that guy.

    • Mark Moore

You would like to think that, but to make that happen, you probably need to dump 3M. Either that or not keep Farm Dawg.

    • PTBNL

I would name him DH and assistant hitting coach.

First projects are Barrero and Aquino

      • Mark Moore

See … now that just makes sense. Why would we do something like that?

    • Old-school

I was thinking the same thing, except hes not good at 3b and hes only 5’9” so he cant play first base. India is 2b and you’ve got Votto and Moose and occasional Stephenson for rotational DH duties. Encarnacion-strand hit homer #26 today in AA and looks like a first base DH option soon. Spencer Steer is major league ready as infield depth and righty bat. Plus you have Kyle Farmer as a good righty bat and 3b defense.

      I think Solano is gone.

      • LDS

Solano will be 35 next season. Though he has hit well, he’s not the future. Let him go.

      • PTBNL

5″9″ is no giant but shoot Steve Garvey was only 5’10” for all those great Dodger teams.

  75. Mark Moore

Please don’t tell me this pitching change is to give Diaz a “save opportunity”. I mean, I get it if we go to him, but please not for the stats.

    • Mark Moore

And if it is Diaz, he’d better come back out for the 9th no matter what.

  76. Old-school

Buck Farmer did a nice job competing.
Came back from the bereavement list.
    Job well done.

  77. Mark Moore

Interesting … we’re getting a LOOGY situation even when that’s not the way the rules are written now.

      • Mark Moore

Thrall and Welsh seem to lean that way. They are saying DTBell is probably thinking about tomorrow’s game and what his BP looks like, who will be available, etc. I guess we’ll see in the 9th, won’t we?

    • Mark Moore

OK, only threw 5 pitches. Do we see him in the 9th or not?

  78. Mark Moore

And The Lettuce Guy still sits … 😮

  79. RedsGettingBetter

Buck Farmer has lowered his ERA to 4.25 after the today’s outing. When he returned from AAA to have a 2nd stint with Reds his ERA was above 6.00… He has been doing a good job…

  80. LT

Why you have to ruin my day by striking out looking Barrero?

  81. Mark Moore

I’m OK with Diaz out there. He hasn’t worked in a couple days and then only 1 batter.

  82. Kevin H

Diaz out there for 9th. Lets seal the win!!! Bell pulling all the right strings today.

  83. RedsGettingBetter

Papierski erased the possibility of another Fraley’s AB and try to get on base for 6th time in this game

  84. Bet on Red

and its official, Minor gets a win…. Alien invasion in progress though

  85. Mark Moore

And the Yugo crawls across the finish line with a win … a bit ugly, but that’s one giant monkey off his hatchback.

Off to get some dinner. Catch you all in Philly.

  86. Dennis Westrick

Mama & Papa Diaz must be very proud! Two (2) sons pitching in the majors and both of them are awesome!

  87. Dennis Westrick

Almost laughable that Minor gets a win when he gave up all 5 runs scored by the Pie-Rats!
