After losing the first two games of the series, the Cincinnati Reds will be looking to avoid a sweep this afternoon against the New York Mets. The Reds will send T.J. The game is available on MLB Network this afternoon.

T.J. Zeuch
When the season began for T.J. Zeuch he was in Triple-A with Memphis as a part of the Cardinals organization. His stay didn’t last long there as he allowed 39 hits and 26 runs in 19.1 innings before his release in late May. The Reds signed him shortly after and sent him to Arizona where he made a few appearances before being moved to Triple-A Louisville. Once he joined the Bats he seemed to be a different pitcher than the one he was with Memphis and has posted a 3.63 ERA in 22.1 innings while getting back to being a ground ball pitcher. In his final outing in Louisville last week he struck out a career best 12 batters.
Splits (Triple-A in 2022)

LHH | 106 | 36 | 7 | 1 | 4 | 12 | 18 | .391 | .462 | .620 |
Taijuan Walker
The splits for Walker are noticeable. Both righties and lefties don’t pick up many hits – both are hitting in the .240’s, but lefties walk significantly more often and they are hitting for a lot more power, too. Righties haven’t been able to do much against him this season in any capacity with a low average, low walk rate, and very little power.

News and Notes
Ryan Hendrix to Triple-A
The Reds officially called T.J. Zeuch up this morning so he could start today’s game. That meant they would need to create a roster spot, which led to the team optioning reliever Ryan Hendrix back to Triple-A Louisville.
Feels like a sweep in the offing
Senzel can’t throw that to 3rd
Doug you have the temperature at 872°. Is that a misprint? Stay hydrated!
Nimmo to score cashed again, but that should’ve been it. Lindor clearly took strike 3, but the ump missed it. Its hard enough for the little guys to compete, but then the umps disregard them too. Robo umps!! I’m 1000% for it!
Barrero with 12 K in his first 21 AB, I hope he’ll right the ship.
At some point you can’t write things off to the hamate surgery
A little late to the party today. I see I missed what has become the typical 2-run hole to the Metros this week.
I’m ready for the Stupid Cubs and the corn field at this point.
That hit looked like vintage Joey.
And we’re watching some BP today. That’s a HUGE hole we’ve excavated and filling it in plus getting to a lead will be challenging at best.
4-0 in the 2nd…
Zoinks!
Zoinks indeed 😮
Stop the fight!
Add-on by Tommy Boy
So with all this hoopla surrounding Barrera and his defense; he’s not looking very impressive thus far. Not anywhere to be found on a cutoff, and now completely fans on a line drive that should have been caught. That isn’t so good when matched up to 12 K’s in just 21 AB’s.
I see Barrero had a single
Of course he did. If I bash a player, he’s going to hit. Works every time. 🙂
Keep it up brother , we are counting on you.
Mets announcers bashing Bell for hitting for Barrera last night. Yes, I think there is concern with Barrera, but hitting for him with everything that is going on last night, was just foolish. No surprise coming from Bell though.
I have, for the most part, been defending Bell, but the move last night pinchhitting Lopez for Barrero was insensible. I understand that he needs to win games to keep his job, but Lopez for Barrero?
Bell doesn’t have to win games to keep his job—-Clearly!
And that is a big part of the problem because he’s never won anywhere and won’t, With his nonsense.
Barrero strikes out a lot. Lopez does not.
Pinch hitting for him is fine but not sure I’d use Lopez
TJ making memories.
Who did we get for Naquin? Either way he says thank you Mr Krall
Here I thought Zoinks era of 22.60 couldn’t get any worse and he showed me for doubting him. Never again Mr. ZOINKS.
Nice hustle by the Farm Dawg and a good piece of hitting by Joey.
This is no place for positivity, Mark 🙂
Thanks for the reminder. I’ll dial it back … 😀
Zeuch, another amazing acquisition from dumpster diving.
Feels a little better to get a couple of them back. Now to go an inning where THEY don’t score on us. May be a tall order.
The bat of Stephenson is really missed in this lineup.
This series has been one of just but being able to get the hit when needed. So many LOB.
Not* being able to get the hit
Naquin rocking at the plate.
I think it’s safe to say Naquin likes playing for the Mets.
That intentionally walking a batter really paid off. Lol
Wait a error by the young guy. Hahahahaha
DFA him
Not a good play by Barrero or Votto there unfortunately.
Nope barrero made the throw. His job is to throw the ball. Not Votto job.. LOL
All kidding aside what happened. I am on gameday so I don’t see it
Barrero had no chance of getting the runner and bounced it. Votto should have gotten his body in front of it but instead tried to scoop it when again there was no chance.
Ball went into the dugout.
With nobody on, Votto can try to scoop. With a guy at 3rd, he had to know the batter was going to be safe…Come off the bag…save your SS an error and team a run.
It doesn’t matter if anyone is on base or not. Runner had already passed through the base, get off the darn bag. I love Votto, but despite the one GG (who knows how he got that) he’s always been a bad defensive 1st baseman.
And no….Barrero shouldn’t have even attempted a throw.
I love listening to Keith Hernandez. He breaks down a lot of stuff, and makes no bones about lousy play. Just ripping the Reds for bad baseball.
Yes, cause I am sure Keith Hernandez never made bad baseball decision’s in his career. He should probably worry about the team he announces for.
He won 11 gold gloves…he knows what he’s talking about.
Might be the best defensive 1st baseman who ever played the game, but okay.
“Keith Hernandez??? I despise Keith Hernandez!!!”
Agree about Hernandez…love when they play the Mets so I can hear their broadcast. Ron Darling, when he did games too.
Saw the play on video. Barrero needs to not throw the ball. He had no chance and left Votto out to dry. Bad play there by Barrero.
Bad by both
Votto could have erased the Barrero error if he just used common sense baseball IQ
True, Barrero never should have thrown the ball, but I’m not sure how you can suggest she left Votto out to dry. What does that even mean? You mean he forced Votto to have to make a decision that he clearly should have known what to do, like get off the bag and block the ball?
After the Field of Dreams game it’s onto football season fulltime (but will root for the Seattle Reds to stomp the Yanks)
8 innings o run. Castillo is taking his game to the next level.
yeah … this isn’t fun to watch anymore today. off to the Iowa Cornfield and the Stupid Cubs.
Later, y’all!
Hmmm. Bases loaded, not outs. Doesn’t look good.
Schnikey!
At least we got an out in all that mess. Never mind giving up two runs with two outs to go.
Barrero is looking great
Mets showing their superiority over the Reds today.
Bell warming up the closer (Detweiler) in a 10-2 game
Wait, Detweiler is the closer now?
There is no shame losing to the Mets. I am glad it’s not a 4 game series though. Facing Degrom? Yuck
Just saw enough of the bottom of the 6th to say we are just awful.Lack of effort by Barrero on the line drive is followed by Votto just falling as he attempts to do whatever he was trying to do as the ball goes by him.Won’t watch this type of effort.Reds are not trying just going through the motions.I would pull them both.
When does Bell and the coaches start getting the blame for lackadaisical performance and poor fundamental baseball?
Alright, little league time. Start handing out the participation trophies.
Look at the bright side. Reds pitchers only had to cover 8 innings 3 days in a row.
Not an impressive Reds debut for Zeuch.
He was Mike MInor in June without the 10 M salary
Reds will be 44-66 after this game , an even .400 winning percentage with 52 games left. Thats a 65-97 projection and finishing 21-31 if they maintain .400 winning percentage. With Mahle and Castillo gone as well as Drury and bad bullpen and no offense, 21-31 may be a stretch.
Reds schedule is not that tough the rest of the year. But with the trades they made at the deadline, and the numerous injuries, the current team they are putting out on the field is truly a bad one. They play 8 games over 6 days in Sept. It will be interesting to see how Bell handles that with the pitching staff with his philosophy of using 5-6 pitchers a game. We may end up with Votto pitching a few innings.
He was Mike Minor in June without the 10 M salary
The Reds schedule last year wasn’t 5hat tough and we saw how that worked out.
It’s obviously such a little thing, but why did Reynolds replace India and Lopez replace Votto in the 7th. Very odd to switch them in that manner considering Lopez went to second in place of India and Reynolds to first to replace Votto.
The manager is odd.
Geez.
Maybe because they were down 8 runs, India is banged up, Votto is 38 years old, the team has been on the road for 11 days, and it was hot in New York this afternoon?
Does it matter which guy hit in India’s spot?
There are a couple posters that do nothing but whine about Bell, while ignoring what the front office has done to the team. They’re better left ignored
My point was that it intentionally made sure Reynolds hit in the 9th. I was okay with giving India and Votto the time off. Just weird to not do a direct substitution and to invert the players to intentionally give Renolds an AB and not Lopez.
Also, burtgummer, I am not one that criticizes Bell nonstop. I even started that out as saying it’s a very minor thing. Just a weird quirky substitution.
I’m not sure I need to see anymore this year. I’ve got alot of stuff to do before winter. This team is not good.
I don’t expect much the rest of the season after the trades and changes. With the Reds now stocked farm system, I’ll expect some positive moment after next years Spring Training.
For the first time all year I am ready to quit watching. Might watch the field of dream game, don’t know why, and when they play the Cardinals. The truth is they are at least 2 years away from respectability and as long as Bell is around that number goes up. Met’s announcers hit hard on Reds fundamentals and lack of effort, that must fall squarely on Bell. Today may have been the worst game they played all year. So sad.
Agree. This was just sloppy play. Also, I’m just not sure about Barrero. This kid seems pretty cocky, as if too many people have told him he’s good. Not sure I’m seeing the effort from a kid who has tons of talent, and tons of talent on his heels who are looking to leap-frog him.
I said it before this team is built to lose 2 out of 3 games, so I am not upset when they lose, rather cheer when they win no matter what bad decisions Bell makes.
