Nick Lodolo
The rookie left-hander will be looking to rebound from his last outing where he struggled with his control, giving up five runs in 2.0 innings while walking three batters and hitting another three.
Lefties haven’t gotten many chances to face Nick Lodolo this year, but when they have they’ve done very little, going 2-15 with three walks. Right-handed hitters, though, have put up MVP-caliber numbers against him as they’ve hit .340 and slugged .557 against him.

Trevor Rogers
After being an All-Star last year and finishing second to Jonathan India in the rookie of the year voting, Trevor Rogers is experiencing the old sophomore slump as his ERA has more than doubled while watching his home run rate triple, walk rate go up, and strikeout rate plummet.
Rogers has been a very different pitcher on the road than he has been at home. On the road his ERA is 3.95 and he’s given up just three home runs in 43.1 innings. At home his ERA is 7.08 and he’s given up eight home runs. When on the road he’s walked 24 batters with just 32 strikeouts as he’s just been able to walk a fine line to keep runs off of the board outside of Miami.
Lefties haven’t gotten too many chances to face him this season, but when they have they haven’t found too much success, posting a .671 OPS against him thanks to plenty of walks, but not too much hitting. Right-handed hitters are finding a lot more success against him, showing off a good average, walk rate, and ability to hit for some power.

News and Notes
Cam Collier signs for $5M
The Cincinnati Reds officially signed 1st round pick Cam Collier for a bonus of $5M. Cincinnati has now signed 14 of their 22 draft picks.
No international draft, Qualifying offers are staying
Today was the final day for MLB and the MLBPA to either agree on an international draft or not. They did not. That means that the qualifying offer will remain in place and teams can lose draft picks or be pushed back in the draft for certain types of signings of free agents. Had the two sides come to an agreement by today the qualifying offer would have gone away.
Heading down to the ballpark. Looks like I’ll miss the telethon during tonight’s coverage of the game. Pity.
We had 22 picks. Extra pick after rounds 1 and 2.
Hey, I got it right in 2 of the 3 places I mentioned it today. I’m counting that as a win.
.667 is Hall of Fame numbers, Doug.
Maybe going to Fridays game. Not 100% sure..
Opps Mike Minor is pitching Friday night. So unless something changes. I won’t be going Friday night. LOL
Will be watching the game on TV, not sure how anyone would deal with what is sure to be the huge turn out of people for tonight’s game.
Can already hear the echoing “wooooo!” in the 7th inning or whatever.
Fairchild back to coffee and doughnut duty in favor of Reynolds.Bell has to be the worst manager I could imagine for this team.A team going no where that needs to find out about a player like Fairchild and he starts an infielder that’s been around for 6 or 7 seasons in the outfield
Ron Popiel voice>> “But wait!!!! There’s more!!! This guy (Reynolds) can also play outfield and in a pinch he can even catch or pitch an inning.
Need more like that for sure.Little league manager doing what he does
I see that Kolozsvary hasn’t played since he hit his home run and Goldsmith did his Enquirer piece. I always get the feeling from Goldsmith’s articles that he’s all an employee of the Reds PR team.
It is how much for these doggies in the window, we hope you like these doggies for sale (trade) night for Reds. Except for India, Lodolo, Votto, and possibly Senzel, they are all available.
Let’s hope Lodolo can put together a solid game tonight.
and…. here we go….
Bad throw = give them a run.
Nick says thanks for digging the hole early.
The throw was high but it was catchable. So, the error was on Solano. Also, Senzel was late backing up the play.
Point taken
Come on August 2nd.Please somebody take Pham.Good cheerleader and slapper.
it was his most productive hit of the year.
There are some things out of Bell’s hands (injuries) but batting Pham 3rd and Votto 4th is all on him. Terrible
3 and 4 both strike out with a man at second.
Wasted lead off double with a chance to get the run back.
Votto cleanup against a lefty and sees nothing obviously.
Really,2 pitches in the heart of zone and he doesn’t swing until he gets pitch 3 feet down and away from strike zone
4 Ks through 2 for Lodolo. Looks sharp
Looking at the Marlins infield, I’m kind of surprised the field isn’t heavily tilted to the right side. You’re not going to find a heavier duo than 1B Aguilar and 2B Astudillo.
Man Solano can hit. It’s a shame he’ll be gone in two weeks.
Or A week. My bad
I’ll be surprised if somebody doesn’t trade for Solano. Guy can hit.
Guy is a 280 lifetime hitter not sure how many years he has played but as you said he can hit.
In reality until the Reds move on from older non productive players we will see them in the lineup over younger players.Solano,Moose and Joey should not wear a glove and Reynolds is a back up infielder. Just hope Solano doesn’t have to do much at second and the same for Reynolds in right.Kolo as mentioned hasn’t batted since he homered. In fact he was pinch hit for his next at bat in a meaningless game down 3 runs late. Bell is just a little league manager where vet privilege always comes first especially if they can stand not play at any position.I withdraw wanting Barrero to be called up or Aquino or anybody else cause they won’t play.
Senzel 102.7 mph line out
I thought that ball was going over De La Cruz’s head but he caught it. Saved at least one run right there and the Reds would have had a good chance to score at least 2 in that inning.
Fredo back on camera.
Looks to me like nobody’s doing Lodolo any favors tonight. Getting ugly pretty quickly.
Reds at the plate or in the field are not ready to play again it seems.
Votto reflexs avert a catastrophe
That’ll work. No runs for the Marlins with bases loaded and nobody out.
Papierski is terrible. He makes Dan Bilardello look like an all-star.
Now thats a name from the past
Votto strikes out again with 2 on now up to Farmer.
Farmer doesnt miss…. tie game
Farmer gets it done.
He does have the team’s highest average with 2 outs and RISP. I think that’s called clutch hitting.
You think somebody would want Farmer to be a DH against lefties.
neither does solano….. until everyone is in
That’s a little better, guys.
Solano against lefties and Joey against righties would not be a bad combo next year. Now somebody will want Solano and it will be interesting.
This is a Little League team we’re watching on defense like that, right?
Little league coach at the helm.
Glove pointing the wrong way there, Pap. Not good.
Pappy is all thumbs
Larkin advocating the reds sign Farmer. Said he is a great leader and competitor.
He said sign him to a LONG term contract and put a C on his jersey. You talk about interference with the GM. Baseball announcer and Asst to the CEO and HOF’er using his broadcast platform to tell the GM what to do 1 week prior to the trade deadline. Thats why the Reds stink since Castellini took over. Insular small network of people with egos telling decision makers what to do.
Farmer has a .585 OPS against righties. Hes 32. Go read Reds content plus on defensive metrics. Farmer is bad as a SS compared to his peers. -4 on OOA.
I nearly fell out of my chair. Long term contract to a 32 year old. SMH
You would never hear Dan Hoard or Dave Lapham telling the Bengals to sign Jesse bates on air and break the stalemate. You wouldn’t hear the Steelers or Cardinals color men telling the GM to break the bank for a 32 year old vet. But, thats Larkin. He comes off his boat from Florida, and texting Big Papi at the HOF so all can here his connections and waxed about his motocross ownership with griffey…..and then comes in for a home series to lecture everyone on what over 30 veterans Krall needs to sign to massive contracts with Castellini’s money.
Kolzy and Okey are worse than this clown?
OK, Brandon … 😀
It’s your turn.
Just like that
Bingo!!! 3-run homer.
Let’s trade this guy NOW and get some middle reliever AA prospect.
Or keep him for 2 months on a 95 loss team and then he leaves in the open market with 29 other teams bidding higher.
Or sign him to a 3 year contract and keep him.
Something. Sure, trade Drury if we can really get something, but honestly, I don’t think he will get much on the trading market.
However, I could also be so, so wrong.
Drury Bomb
You getting wet? Some nasty stuff blowing through over here.
not yet…. I am hearing thunder and the temp is dropping which usually means storms
Drury to Pap … “Hold my beer. I’ll bail you out.”
You called it Mark.Drury does what he has done all year long.Just think if nor for injuries he doesn’t even see the field.
I honestly hope the Reds can sign Drury to a deal. But if I was him,I would want to be FA for sure. He is going to get paid this off-season.
IMO We need to keep Drury!!!!! Who else do we have to play this good defense and offense at 3B answer is nobody!!!! No one in minors is ready for 3B
Votto and pham follow up with hits
Lodolo has struggled a bit but he is a fighter. He has not allowed an earned run. Would like to see us get two more innings out of him.
Lodolo’s sinker. DP ball. That’s what I like to see.
With Papierski hitting .125 in the nine hole, I think the Reds had better offense when the pitchers hit there.
DraftKings gave me a 50% boost for a same game parlay so I took Reds to win, Drury 2+ bases, and Rogers 5+ hits allowed. Plus I bet the Reds straight up….stand to have my biggest night of the year! Sign Drury and don’t think twice!
Larkin didnt say sign drury. He said sign Farmer to a LONG contract.
Drury is going to FA. Love the guy though. He loves GABP too.
I like Farmer, but indeed, his metrics are around replacement level or worse, offensively and defensively.
I have no idea who would want to trade for him, but he is a good utility infielder. He’s a solid guy. But if I were the Reds, there is NO WAY I would offer him a long term contract. That’s just dumb.
I could imagine Drury not being traded, going FA and then resigning with the Reds once all the smoke clears.
He knows GASP is good for him.
Farmer needs to get traded into a pennant race. I haven’t looked at all the contenders splits, but I’m thinking the Twins could use a lefty killer
Plus I want to bet the Twins to win the division +125. Win/win trade imo
Twins .743 ops overall, but only .715 vs lhp
Farmer to Minn makes alot of sense if they have someone we need
Not to diss Farmer at all, but my guess is that what he’s got going on here is totally situational.
The ballpark, the team, the opportunity, the motivation.
Move him to part time bench man someplace else, and my hunch is that it’s not repeatable.
But I am all for trading him and getting somebody good and opening up SS.
FarmDog, we hardly knew ye.
Minor redemption there for Pap
Senzel on base twice today with a double in there. Had an .837 OPS in July coming into the game. Would be nice to see him start to be a piece that can be counted on in the future.
Grand Slam Upper Deck!!!
Cowboy says that’s blowing the game wide open … I tend to agree.
Absolute moon shot for his first Grand Salami.
GRand SLAM INDIA….. Start Buying…. get rentals…. trade the prospects… World series here we come
SLAAAMMM…INDIA
India is back. Good to see.
India becoming a George Springer type of LO guy.
Senzel, India, Dury, bottom to to of line up is money today. I don’t mind seeing it continue. Go Reds, let’s have fish for dinner 4 days this week. I don’t mind that either, healthy for the heart
The scary part is many want Larkin to be the manager. I have never seen that as a good idea. Signing Farmer wouldn’t be a bad decision if the price was right, but I’m not sure he takes a team friendly deal just to be the captain. I think he would be great for the utility role and could provide that veteran presence for the young guys, but anything more than four years needs to come with a low AAV.
I used to want him. Not so much anymore. I can’t even listen to his banter with Sadak. Then again, I never choose to listen to Sadak, so Larkin just goes along with that package.
Backwards K’s are ugly … more so when somebody with about the best eye for the zone takes one.
and with that every player has at least one hit
Farm Dawg Double!!
If RoY could manage a triple, this evening would be complete.
HP Chumpire gifting some strikes to the Fishies
Votto set bad example and Senzel followed: struck out looking when the game leading by 8 runs. Don’t you want to work on your swing?
Nick got squeezed a bit, Joey not so much.
Votto is quite an enigma. He always has abundant of power but prefers to take a walk. Does not fit lead off role because of the power but the batting average and taking walk makes him a perfect candidate for leading off
Billy Hamilton sighting
Would like to see BHam play some this series.
I always enjoyed him, even if he never really learned to hit.
BIlly’s CF highlight reel is part of Reds history.
I gotta think they are going to sneak him in one of the games
I wonder how many Reds fans remember?
actually they put him in at second
Another crazy graphic rivaling the Reds leading MLB is batting average RISP. Billy Hamilton had a career batting average of .245 with the Reds! Heck, he would be batting clean-up on this team!
I was shocked.
I’d run Minor out there for the 9th.
Just because.
+5,000
That 40 MPH Knuckle really confusing hitters.
Exactly
Reds Win again….. world series bound….. lol
Love a big win after digging a little hole (or a divot) up front. Lodolo knuckled down and did a great job.
Nice to see Moreta start to turn things around a bit.
As much as I would have liked to see what Minor would do with a nine run lead and only responsible for three outs, sending Dauri out there was a good move.
Build confidence, momentum.
He pitched efficiently and effectively.
No walks, GO, PO, GO.
Basta cosi.
