Prior to the game tonight against the New York Yankees, the Cincinnati Reds announced that they had placed Mike Moustakas on the injured list and called up Max Schrock.
Mike Moustakas was placed on the injured list with no designation. That means he’s been moved to the COVID injured list, but as we always are sure to point out – that does not mean that he has tested positive. It could mean he was a close contact of someone, or that he exhibited symptoms that could be COVID. He joins outfielder Albert Almora Jr. on the list.
Moustakas has struggled this season – hitting just .210/.298/.337 for Cincinnati in 63 games. He had been in a big slump in July, but had hits in each of his last three games, including two home runs.
Max Schrock began the season on the injured list and missed all of April and May, as well as half of June before returning to the Reds roster. He spent the first week coming off of the bench, going 2-6 in single plate appearances over six games. Schrock then got more playing time, racking up 19 plate appearances in his next five games but only picking up two singles and a walk. Cincinnati then optioned him to Triple-A on July 5th. He only played in three games with Louisville, going 4-10 with a double, home run, and a walk.
He was supposed to showcase his talents before the trade deadline.
Moose has showcased his skills. It, however, is like Whoopi Goldberg showcasing her figure.
OBE … that’s completely RUDE!!! 😮
It’s also pretty darned accurate 😀
Truly hope he is okay. COVID is nothing trivial, even in it’s milder forms. Timing is a bit of a puzzler, but at least he got over the 200 HR hump.
We’ll see how tonight’s line-up performs. It is the LC showcase after all, isn’t it?
Seemed to me like Moose was getting ready to get into something good. He and Schrock can just alternate IL stints since they both seem to spend so much time there.
So, will Schrock get any playing time?
We’ve seen Fairchild 2 days in a row, so …
Not against a tough leftie like Cortes. Honestly, the one I would like to see more of is Fairchild. His AAA #s are superior to Schrock and he’s had far fewer opportunities at the MLB level than Shrock. Schrock has had some nice streaks, but over time, his lack of power will limit him to a bench piece in my view.
Didn’t necessarily mean in today’s game. If Fairchild can replicate last night’s performance, then for now he & Senzel should be starting and the rest can rotate through the other OF position until they are traded.
I would have like to have seen Friedl get some time. He has been hot lately in AAA and we are light on outfielders and heavy on corner infielders.
