The Cincinnati Reds have traded minor league outfielder Trey Amburgey to the Seattle Mariners. The return for Amburgey is unknown at this time. If it feels like this was the 412th trade between the Reds and Mariners in the last four months you are only off by a few.
Amburgey signed with the Reds on December 1st on a minor league deal. He had spent the rest of his career in the New York Yankees organization and made his big league debut with them in the 2021 season, getting into two game. The 27-year-old has had an inconsistent, up-and-down season so far with Louisville. In his 39 games played he’s hit .226/.302/.429 with seven home runs, 15 walks, and 46 strikeouts in 149 trips to the plate.
Jeff Hoffman to the IL
Prior to the game in San Francisco on Friday night the Reds announced that Jeff Hoffman was being placed on the injured list. No designation was given, meaning he’s on the Covid injured list. As always this is your reminder that it doesn’t mean he’s tested positive. It could simply mean that he was showing symptoms that could be related to Covid.
Hoffman has been one of the few reliable pitchers out of the bullpen for Cincinnati, so they’re going to miss him and his 3.18 ERA. Taking his place for now is right-hander Jared Solomon, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville. In his time earlier this season with the Reds, Solomon allowed seven runs in 6.1 innings (9.95 ERA). The 25-year-old had a 4.91 ERA in Louisville through 11.0 innings while giving up nine hits and walking eight batters. He didn’t allow a run in five appearances that covered 7.0 innings to begin the season in Double-A Chattanooga.
Justin Dunn to begin a rehab stint
After not pitching in the big leagues for the last year, Justin Dunn is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Sunday in High-A with the Dayton Dragons. The expectation is for him to throw 35-40 pitches and or 2.0 innings. The right-handed starter suffered a shoulder injury last summer when he was with Seattle on June 17th. He made one rehab appearance on September 16th in Triple-A, but left the game with an injury and hasn’t appeared in another game since.
The Bull at work.
When I seen reds trading was thinking it was Castillo going to Mets with all the rumors going on them being heavy interested in him
I see Mets fans say Castillo would be the 4th starter for the Mets.1
Interesting, that leaves only 3 OF prospects in AAA.
A) they move Barrero to CF
B) they Promote Gilliam from AA
Gilliam should probably get the call. He’s destroyed AA this season.
I’m hopeful we can get 1 or 2 promoted. However, I’m pretty sure one or two of those louisville infielders can play left field.
The injuries this year have been incredible – and its not just the Reds. I think MLB needs to consider allowing clubs to carry more minor leaguers on rosters for balance of year and 1 more pitcher on major league rosters. There is some serious attrition going on across major league pitching staffs this year.
Maybe it’s a prelude to some minor league shuffling. Or maybe Bob needed some walking around money.
Lol “walking around money” I think you won the internet today
Agree. That got me laughing. Something we all need right now.
At 112, I doubt Bob does much walking around these days. Probably spend his day thinking about his prostrate.
He’s thinking about his lying down flat on his stomach? That’s what prostrate means!
Doug, any idea why McLain got scratched from Chattanooga’s lineup? He was in their infographic on twitter, but didn’t play according to gameday. Didn’t see anything on twitter about it.
How is Stephenson doing? Any update?
He got his cast off a couple of days ago, and was doing some light throwing.
When the reds trade mahle and Castillo. I hope they can maybe trade 1 of the 2 to San Diego for esteury ruiz. He is a centerfielder in the Padres AAA team.
In 49 games at AA this year he hit. .343, 9 homeruns, 37 stolen bases…in just 49 games .
