The Cincinnati Reds made it official this afternoon and placed catcher Tyler Stephenson on the 7-day injured list. The 7-day injured list is for concussions, which is what Stephenson suffered after a collision at home plate on Tuesday night with Luke Voit in the Reds loss in San Diego. Taking his place on the roster will be Mark Kolozsvary. He had been on the taxi squad with the team and was already in San Diego.

Cincinnati now has 13 players on the injured list – the most in all of Major League Baseball.

  • Tejay Antone (60-day)
  • Justin Dunn (60-day)
  • Max Schrock (60-day)
  • Luis Castillo
  • Daniel Duarte
  • Minor Minor
  • Lucas Sims
  • Jose Barrero
  • Jonathan India
  • Mike Moustakas
  • Donovan Solano
  • Tyler Naquin
  • Tyler Stephenson

There is some good news on the front of the injuries for the Reds. After his most recent bullpen/live batting practice session, Luis Castillo will take the mound on Sunday in Dayton as he begins a rehab assignment with Cincinnati’s High-A affiliate. Expect him to make several rehab starts in the minors – not necessarily all with Dayton – before he returns to Cincinnati because he’s going to need to build up his pitch count a bit after not pitching during spring training or the early part of the regular season.

Lucas Sims pitched this afternoon in Louisville in what was his final rehab appearance. He threw a perfect inning that only required eight pitches – seven of which were strikes. While on rehab, Sims allowed two hits in 4.0 innings and allowed just one run. The run came on a homer that was both wind aided and small ballpark aided. Sims will likely return to the Reds roster on Friday, first reported by C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic.

Rosecrans also reported that shortstop Jose Barrero is expected to start swinging a bat today. Barrero missed all of spring training after injuring the hamate bone in his wrist and having surgery late in March to have it removed. The general recovery time post surgery for the injury is 4-6 weeks.

Here’s what Pham said after the game.

I don’t like it all,” said Reds left fielder Tommy Pham, who hit his second homer in two nights with a solo drive in the top of the first inning. “They can say what they want, everybody on that side, they know I get down. I know a place here. I know an owner who will let me use his gym if we need to settle anything. … That play was dirty.”

If Luke wants to settle it, I get down really well,” Pham said. “Anything. Muay Thai, whatever. Like I said, I’ve got an owner here who will let me use his facility.”

Plain and simple, them is fightin’ words. I wonder if we will see some extra curricular today.

I think the play was dirty. But, I also think Tommy Pham is a hot head whose real beef with the Padre’s front office.

Frankly the Reds need a hot head. They are lifeless.

The Reds are not 2-9 because they are asleep. They are 2-9 because they are not a very good baseball team.

There is a difference from being a leader and being a jerk. It’s always something with Tommy Pham. Last season, he was threatening to fight Reds fans.

Over 900 players in Major League Baseball and every time fighting someone is mentioned is usually by Tommy Pham.

I hope Tommy Pham does well on his “revenge tour” so the Reds will dump him in a couple of months.

Lots of ways to be a hot head. I’d like to see someone get po’d and throw their batting helmet after striking out. Any emotion that shows they cared that they lost. This team is lifeless.

I think that the reds could use a good trip with one another. They can be so much better than this all they have to do is pick up their feet and run.

Like we’ve got a pretty high pick?

      • Votto4life

We should have a top 6 pick at least. Bad time for the league to switch to a lottery pick system from a Red’s perspective.

Sounds like TS is going to be okay. Could have been worse.

Throw Voit inside, way inside, until it reaches his large derriere.
