The Cincinnati Reds will look to avoid a sweep this evening as they take on the Atlanta Braves. First pitch is set for 5:10pm today.

Eugenio Suárez – 3B Joc Pederson – CF
Tyler Naquin – CF Stephen Vogt – C

Starting Pitchers

Vladimir Gutierrez

Coming off of his two best starts of his big league career, Vladimir Gutierrez will look to keep that going. He’s given up just one earned run in each of his last two starts that have covered 13.0 innings while striking out 10.

Vladimir Gutierrez has some strange split. Lefties have hit just .237 against him this season. But they hit for plenty of power (.466 SLG) and walk nearly as often as they strikeout against him (18 walks, 19 strikeouts). Righties have hit .255/.325/.455 against him. They make a lot less contact, hit for less power, walk less, but also find more hits. But it’s his home and road splits that are really drastic. On the road his OPS against is .665 – a full 309 points lower than it is at home. His ERA is also much better, sitting at 3.11 on the road compared to 5.93 at home.

Kyle Muller

After beginning the year in the minors, Kyle Muller has found himself in the big leagues for the most part since mid-June, and he’s found tons of success along the way, too. He’s made seven starts and one relief appearance while posting a 2.88 ERA in 34.1 innings for Atlanta. His best start of the year came against the Reds on June 27th when he threw 5.0 shutout innings on one hit and two walks while striking out nine.

The 23-year-old lefty has very big splits, granted in a small sample size. He’s only faced a lefty 31 times this season but they are hitting just .107/.194/.107 against him. Righties have hit better, but aren’t having any success either, posting a .202/.318/.292 line against him. His numbers are worse at home where he had a 4.43 ERA (0.64 on the road in three starts).

Nick Castellanos available off the bench

There’s some swelling on the foot of Nick Castellanos after he was hit last night. The x-rays were negative, but he’s not in the starting lineup today.

I’m quickly seeing my hopes fade. This lineup doesn’t inspire oodles of confidence. We shall see in a few hours. I’d hate to slink out of Atlanta without any wins.

Here’s to another solid outing by Vlad.

  2. Dennis Westrick

Observations from last night’s game since I had technology challenges preventing me from following inning-by-inning! The Reds use 6 Rps to cover innings 6 thru 11. The Braves used 7 pitchers to cover the same span of innings! The Reds RPs walked 5 batters over that span with the last walk from Sims being the most painful (Always a walk before yielding a HR). The Braves RPs walked only 1 Reds batter over the 6 innings. Too many walks by both Miley and the RPs (8 total) which runs up the pitch counts and turns the batting order over too often. Givens threw only 13 pitches in the bottom of the 10th inning including the mandatory walk! Inexplicably Bell continues to employ a “You can only pitch 1 inning” approach for the RPs. Who knows? Maybe Givens would have had better success. Hoping for better results tonight!

    • Mark Moore

+1,000 … a very sad award, but an award all the same

    • beelicker

Sims was also one 3-2 pitch away from a 3-o count thanks partly to an apparent blown ball 1 call from retiring the side. Lorenzen was likewise within a whisker of blowing the game multiple times but somehow prevailed

  3. realist

NO worries I74 is in the lineup, with his -2.4 WAR.

    • beelicker

A lot of that neg WAR is driven by his horrid defensive work at short and which there’sa big proportional weight assigned to that position defensively … strictly 3B Saurez is not a -2.4

  4. Mark Moore

Oh, and I’m hoping them using 2 CF’ers and no pitcher works to our advantage … 🙂

    • Doug Gray

      Whoopsies.

It probably would be advantageous for the Reds, though.

  5. Frankie Tomatoes

I’ve never seen such a miserable bunch of whiners in my life as I see on a daily basis here. The Reds have a winning record and the same 15 of you are here every day whining and complaining about the team like they were the stupid DBacks. And I lived through both the misery of the early 80’s teams and the 2000’s.

    Give it a rest.

    • J

Maybe I’m one of those miserable 15 (but I don’t post every day and usually don’t post more than a few comments, so I’m not sure if I made the list), but I get tired of seeing whining posts from BOTH sides. Some people complain about everything, constantly. It’s annoying. Other people constantly complain about the complainers, but they claim to be people who don’t like to complain and just try to enjoy the ride. Also annoying.

      • greenmtred

Is complaining about complaining complaining? If a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it…?

    • Mark Moore

So those of us who consider ourselves die-hard fans and are here almost daily are merely “whiners”? OK – you have your opinion as we all do.

Or perhaps we’re so invested in what’s happening and the resurgent of late that we’re disappointed when execution is below par against a good team, because that pushes us into the fringes where we don’t even get to play game #163 for a shot.

In any case, thanks for playing … tell him what he’s won, Don Pardo!!

      • Frankie Tomatoes

When it’s every day yes that makes you a whiner. This team is outperforming every single projection system and a group of 15 of you are on here every day saying that the manager is the dumbest human being alive.

This is supposed to be enjoyable. Some of you seem like you hate it more than you like oxygen.

David Bell and Nick Krall are not reading your comments here. They probably do not even know Redleg Nation exists.

Go have a beer and relax.

      • Mark Moore

Thanks for clarifying. Daily commenting, regardless of the tone during wins and any criticism of people I know don’t give a white rat’s rear end what this fan site says equals whining. And never disparaging anyone else for commenting in any way equals whining. Being a die-hard fan who has felt the joy of the BRM and 1990 and the gut-wrenching lows of the very lean years and daring to honestly comment because being part of a community of similar fans = whining.

It all makes sense now … I repent in sackcloth and ashes. I suppose I should take some planned days off (which I know are needed by anyone and I’ve advocated for) so you can not have to read anything you personally find challenging or whining. I’ll try to do better next time, Mr. T. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.

      • Frankie Tomatoes

        You are very welcome.

A day off or two might do you some good. The term die hard does not mean you should feel like you are going to die with the team when they lose.

For many of us this place is somewhere to discuss the game. But the incessant negativity and flat out hate that is spewed towards the manager of a team well above 500 is a bit much. There is a difference between discussing things and showing up every day and what some of you guys do. It takes so much fun away from actually trying to be a part of the community here. I come here to have fun not listen to what reminds me of my drunk divorced friend rail on about his ex wife.

      • jazzmanbbfan

I spend much less time here because it’s often not enjoyable, as Frankie Tomatoes points out. I am guessing I’m in the same age range as a number of people posting on this site (over 60). In my teens and 20’s I lived and died by the performance of my teams. Not at this point in my life. I don’t think the people complaining daily on here are really as miserable as they sound but if they are, please seek professional help. Sports is entertainment, or at least for me it is.

I’m a season ticket holder to FC Cincinnati soccer. They were the worst team in soccer the last two seasons and may yet end up there again this year. I’m still entertained when I go to matches and while I’m not happy when they do poorly, I’m not going to trash them and the coaching staff every opportunity I get.

If constantly moaning and trashing the manager, bullpen, Suarez (yes, he’s been awful but we already get that), etc. is what makes people here happy, that’s your prerogative. The people who post here will determine to some extent at least, what the site becomes (unless you you use cuss words, then Doug gets to decide, lol).

I’ll continue to read the post-game wrap by Doug, Nick, Tom, Ashley, et.al. but other than occasional peeks at the comments, if they continue in the vein I’ve seen all season here, I have better things to do with my time.

    • doofus

It sounds like someone had a bad day at work.

  6. RedsGettingBetter

Well, well… hopefully Castellanos is healthy even if he is scanned in the next days…
Apparently, Muller has no received much run support because has obtained just 2 wins and 3 losses despite that very good stats mentioned by Mr Doug…It is curious that Vlad’s fastball velo average is still set at 93.1 MPH when he reached 94-95 MPH consistently in last 3 games if I’m not wrong…

  7. Bred

I’ve been dumped by so many women in my life that any attention I receive from a lady is frosting on the cake! I guess that’s how I view this Red’s team. The players never quit, they hustle, and are fun to watch. What an improvement over the last 8 seasons. Small pleasures sometimes have to be appreciated.

    • g

I completely agree , Bred. I do understand the frustration of having hopes raised then–maybe–dashed, but I’ve been enjoying the Reds more than I have in years.

      • west larry

Couldn’t agree more. This team has heart, some excellent rookies as well as key mature players. I love watching Votto, Winker and Castelano (yes, and even Suarez ) cheering on these kids. I haven’t seen this kind of spirit in a reds team in a long time. And they have a competent manager and general manager. Go Reds!

  8. Bet on Red

not a fan of the start time. Law of averages says we are getting this one. Vlad has an opportunity to show that he belongs here, if he does, we should win this game.

    • Doug Gray

The start time is very strange. It’s a get-away day, but you really don’t get out of town quick. And if the radar holds, you might not get out any sooner than if the game started at 7. But they didn’t ask my opinion about the schedule even though they clearly should have.

      • Bet on Red

true, the start time was because of the “field of dreams” game right

      • Mark Moore

It’s August in the Southeast … possible T-storms is what you get. It’s rumbling outside my house near Raleigh even though my view to the North is pretty blue at the moment.

  9. CI3J

Don’t look now, but the Braves are only 1.5 games behind the Reds in the Wild Card, and the Mets are only 2 back.

If the Reds start falling behind teams in the WC, I think that’s it for the season. It’s bad enough to have to root for SD to lose every night, but when you have 2 or 3 teams ahead of you and you have to root for them all to lose, that’s just too much.

    • Mark Moore

Very true. Having to climb over 2-3 teams and seeing the Bernie’s just keep rolling along makes the hill harder to climb.

My disappointment is tempered a bit seeing our youngsters perform and thinking of the possibilities for 2022. May have to finally make that pilgrimage to Goodyear.

  10. Bet on Red

Twenty-three pitches for the braves pitcher during the first. That’s on pace for a 5 inning performance.

  11. Mark A Verticchio

Not to complain, but you must admit this team is very poor at advancing runners and another example her in the first inning.

    • Mark Moore

Don’t complain Mr. V … it upsets some others.

Yes – a lead-off double amounts to naught again. Sun angle is weird due to the 5 PM start as well.

    • Old-school

My question would be does Bell and his coaches “coach” moving the runner? Winker didn’t appear to be trying to pull the ball at all to move India to third. I dont think Winkers approach was move the runner. It was see the ball and hit it hard somewhere and he got under it and not a productive out as Lark would say

      • Doc

Where can we find ball players who are as perfect as commenters seem to think they should be? If this were tee ball, then criticism of Wink is understandable, but this is not tee ball. There is somebody throwing the ball to the batter, and it is not a batting practice pitch. Sometimes the pitcher wins the battle. You have no idea what Wink was trying to do; you only look at the result, make some unsupportable inferences, and criticize the entire organization.

  12. Mark Moore

Anyone else planning on tuning in to watch the beginning of the Field of Dreams game? The Yanks and ChiSox have no draw for me, but I’d like to see the setup beyond the pictures and videos.

    • Votto4life

Shouldn’t the Field of Dreams game been the Reds v. White Sox?

I’m sure that decision was made in New York.

Either way it’s a dumb idea. I have no idea why the talking heads on MLB TV is gushing over it.

      • jazzmanbbfan

Dumb idea or not, I’m enjoying it.

  13. Mark Moore

Another nice grab by AA. And with a difficult sun angle as well.

  14. Old-school

Aquino with a really good play in RF.
I think he’s major leaguer with a great arm, good defender and power and hits lefties. I think if Castellanos leaves, he’s the RF and deserves the opportunity. He’s also very easy to root for.

Will he ever hit MLB righty pitching? I dont know but seems to have a little better plate discipline this year but that might be wishful thinking on my part.

    • Mark Moore

Agreed. His discipline seems to be better. I’m thinking he’s far more coachable in that area than some others who are more veteran and appear stuck in their ways.

    • Alan Horn

I was thinking the same thing if Castellanous leaves(I think it is a good chance he does as someone will likely open bank vault for him) . I don’t think we will be disappointed in AA if he plays most every day.

      • Votto4life

I sure hope if Nick does leave the plan isn’t to replace him with AA.

  15. JayTheRed

So I just looked at the Brewers schedule for the rest of the month.. They have a super easy schedule for Aug. and a more respectable harder schedule in Sept.

Only problem here is we are going to be buried deep in games back by time September hits. Our overall schedule might be easier but by September its going to be too late. I truly think our only shot is with the wild card and even that is going to take some luck.

Also just wanted to say always love watching Gutierrez pitch so Ill enjoy that today.

    • Mark Moore

If the Bernie’s can pour it on the rest of this month, catching them will be more than difficult. I’ve never cared for playing to go West and sweat out #163, but if that’s what it takes, then at least we’ve got a ticket to do that much.

    • Mark Moore

I believe I just heard (and saw) that.

  16. Mark A Verticchio

The Reds pitchers are simply walking to many, 8 last night and 2 already today. The sad thing is a high % of them are scoring especially in this series.

  17. Bet on Red

sun angle is seriously wrong for this game…. good Job by Naquin …. and VLAD

  18. Mark Moore

Naquin hit that a little too hard 🙂

Had it been just a little less, he might have been on 2nd by himself. Then Soler couldn’t find his glove and he’s on 3rd anyway.

Come on, Rookie!! Show it to us.

  19. Bet on Red

Grand Slam Winker…. here we go

    • Doc

Wait! Isn’t this the guy who is supposed to just try to move the runners along rather than trying to hit the ball hard somewhere? Hee…Hee.

  20. Mark A Verticchio

Man did this team need that.

  21. Mark Moore

    Out on a FROZEN ROPE!!!

I was hoping it would rebound and clear the base runners. He just nailed it.

  22. Bet on Red

I swear, chicago better lay down for us like they are for the Brewers.

  23. beelicker

Tattooing the wall too hard for XBH lol … the lefties are just murdelizing this lefty

  24. Mark Moore

Braves BP warming … I like that idea

  25. Bet on Red

The Votto resurgence continues apace. Now leads the team in OPS. Alanta pitcher chased. these are the Reds we are used too

    • Mark Moore

It’s so much fun to watch him right now.

BTW – don’t you owe me some “but … but … but”? Haven’t seen one lately. Not that I’m whining about it.

  26. Joe P.

Very patient at bat by both India to draw the walk and Winker to hit the Grand Slam. Both worked the count, and Winker got his pitch.

  27. Bet on Red

and Suarez getting in on the fun

    • Mark Moore

The skipper into the stands for a GRD works

  28. Mark Moore

Duvall is a little lucky he didn’t catch that. Would have been an easy SF tag.

And 17-3 Bernies over the Stupid Cubs??? Wow!!

  29. Bet on Red

Naquin starting to heat up again

    • Melvin

I read at FanSided today about how the writer thinks the three with the best chance to go once Senzel comes back are Naquin, because he has two options remaining (which I didn’t realize), HH and AG. I wouldn’t be so sure about Naquin options or not.

    • Alan Horn

He is. Just when I started to write him off, he comes alive again.

  30. Frankie Tomatoes

This team has brought the lumber!

    • Mark Moore

And then some … sharp liners finding their way into the seats. Geno’s skipper. Vlad’s hit getting Soler to misplay it.

Could be an “everybody hits, everybody scores” kind of day.

  31. Mark Moore

That will help. Monkey off Naquin’s back as well.

  32. Joe P.

Good to see Naquin take his “old buddy” (former Indian) Josh Tomlin deep.

  33. Mark Moore

If Vlad had’ve sneaked that one down the line for a double I’d have lost it

  34. RedAlert

Boom !!!! Beat the fire out of the stupid Braves ! DO NOT TAKE THE FOOT OFF THE GAS !!!!

  35. Bet on Red

Al Capone mode: Activated. Murder in progress. Call 911

    • Mark Moore

the rare +750 for that one (it’s actually a common +500 and +250 combined)

  36. Mark Moore

What in the heckers is in the air today??? Can we bottle it and take it to Philly with us?

    • Mark Moore

+100 and completely agree. Rest would be good.

  37. Bet on Red

I lied… start every game at 510 PM on the east coast in the future

  38. Joe P.

Quite a few of the Reds seem to have a more relaxed approach at the plate today and it’s paying dividends.

  39. RedsMonk65

Just now tuned in….Who are these guys? Someone/something woke them up!

  40. Indy Red Man

Hoskins on IL for Philly. Realmuto got dinged up yesterday and might be out. Try to keep the bases clean for Harper. I like our chances even though Wheeler goes tomorrow.

  41. Dennis Westrick

What the h-e double hockey sticks happened? I posted the 2nd comment of the day on this game string (Mark beat me to 1st place) and then had a 5 o’clock doctor’s appointment. By the time I got back to the house and tried to log into RLN on my Chromebook (unsuccessfully I might add) I checked the score on my phone ESPN app and saw it was 9-1. Wow! Hope this score holds up because the Cubby Bears are not putting up much of a fight against the Bernie’s! Using my work laptop again! Don’t tell anyone!

    • Mark Moore

A little bit of magic and some nice line drives that cleared the fences

  42. Dennis Westrick

Is this going to be another one of those games where we score all our runs early or in one inning and then nothing? No lead is safe with this bullpen! More crooked numbers please! And NO WALKS by our hurlers please!

  43. LuciusRuber

I miss the Old Cossack’s comments

    • RedsMonk65

Yeah…me too. Dare I ask if anyone knows whatever happened to him?

    • Mark Moore

Same. He wrote for the site for a while.

      Maybe Doug or Tom know?

  44. Mark Moore

Did anyone else catch the comment about how many runs the boys have scored when Vlad is on the mound vs. when Sonny has? And in fewer games?

    • Bet on Red

yea, Vlad gets about twice as many.

  45. Mark Moore

Just asked for a GIDP … didn’t quite get it. Ground ball … Check. Outs … well …

  46. Mark Moore

Nice, Farmer! But I’m thinking that has to hurt more than just a little.

  47. Mark A Moore

And they all came in through the corn out of right center field … which is exactly what should have happened. Following Kevin Costner, of course.

    Very cool.

  48. Joe P.

Great play by Farmer to get the Reds out of that weird jam. Tomlin with his first hit in 4 years on a seeing eye single and the error on Votto, and then Farmer takes away another possible seeing eye single with a diving snag and throw him out at first.

  49. Bet on Red

Winkers Double starts my Hit every inning watch, the cycle watch, the over HRE watch. I am about to get paid today.

  50. Mark Moore

Well, that one just found its way around the fair pole, didn’t it?

  51. Bet on Red

While Atlanta detectives were on the crime scene…. a scurrilous Kyle Farmer deposits a couple more bodi…. I mean Runs onto the board.

    • Mark Moore

+250 (leftover from the last related comment)

      • Bet on Red

if the reds keep it going I am keeping it going

  52. Mark A Verticchio

Really need to get Guiti as many innings as possible 6 hopefully 7.

  53. Bet on Red

Assuming No massive breakdown by the reds. Hoffman and Doolittle are the only two I want to see.

    • MBS

A game like this, you can get work in for anyone in need of innings, or a low pressure experience. So who ever that is, that’s who I want to see.

  54. Mark Moore

I won’t lie … that ground ball with eyes hurt a bit.

  55. MBS

Got my new favorite pitcher. We have some great pitchers in our rotation, but I get the most excited for Gutierrez’s appearances.

Also India needs to be our opening day 3B next year, 2B is the wrong bag for him.

    • Mark Moore

Seems like a solid #3 candidate to me

    • Mark Moore

And you may be right on India. He’s adequate, maybe more. Plays with great attitude. But 3B might be better overall.

      • MBS

He’s fine at 2B, but I think long term it would be a better home. Barrero is ready for the Reds SS now, and in 2 years McLain could take over 2B. In the mean time you can put Senzel at 2B, or Lopez. I’m assuming a DH of corse, so MM, JV alternating 1B / DH. I am afraid that Suarez isn’t, shouldn’t be guaranteed a starting spot going forward.

      • 2020ball

why? we have a team full of guys who can play 3rd, and you want the guy whos playing well at an up the middle position to shift there? very confused

      • MBS

We have a lot of aging guys (Suarez, Moustakes) that can play 3B. If I’m not mistaken most are done with Suarez. Moustakes can play 1B / DH with Votto. So that leaves 2 guys who can play 3B, Senzel and India. India is the more reliable player. I’d rather have my 3B locked in, than my 2B. It’s not a dig at India by any means to say he’d be a better 3B than a 2B, that’s what he came up as.

      • Indy Red Man

He’s talking long term. Do you want two overpaid slugs to play 3B?

      • 2020ball

Why you’d want 3B locked in over 2B is confusing, so I guess we’ve come to an impasse. Why you wouldn’t use an OF at DH is also strange, since usually thats a better bat than a 2B, which is your solution instead. Also not sure why we’re DHing Votto (our best def 1B), though I’m sure he could sometimes of course. Personally I wouldnt mess with India just because you dont like Suarez, but thats just me. I’d use the DH to get guys like Aquino more time, not an unproven MI.

      • MBS

I like Suarez a lot, i get annoyed when people take digs at him. The numbers though speak for themselves. Many people can play 2B with the short throws, and now with the shift it’s even easier.

I want Votto and Moustakes to rotate 1B and DH because they are the oldest 2 infielders. It would hopefully keep the both of them healthy.

I’m also assuming Castellanos won’t be a Red, so our outfield won’t be so crowded. Winker, Shogo, Aquino, Naquin. I had Senzel at 2B so having 4 OF rotate, they will get plenty of AB’s.

      • 2020ball

fair enough, but I’d disagree that Votto can’t play mostly every day. If you’re using Senzel in the IF, why not 3B?

I’m not against India at 3B, but it just seems unecessary. If we have a guy without an arm we need to use at 2nd then maybe, but I think even India’s arm isn’t that strong iirc. I guess why even make that decision until you have to, it just seems presumptive to just say there’s tons of guys that can make short throws so we need to move this guy whos having success.

  56. Bet on Red

This Iowa Yankee/White Soxs crowd is a little quiet.

    • Mark Moore

But the pageantry to open it was fun

  57. Mark Moore

Solid 6 from Vlad. That’s what we wanted (really wanted 7, but we’ll take it).

  58. Arthur

If The Impaler wins this game (a pretty good bet at this point), I believe he will lead all major league rookies in wins. Which is nice.

You have to be pretty happy with what the farm system has provided the major league club this season – three very solid performers, one of which should be ROY.

      +500

Wholeheartedly agree and some more warming up at L’ville

      • Arthur

Yup. At least 3-4 more on the way.

Which is kinda remarkable when you consider how bad the Louisville team is ….

    • Votto4life

I agree and more on the way…it reflects well on Dick Williams.

  59. Bet on Red

Hoffman should get the oppertunity for the save. 3 inning kind. Unless he shows he cannot do it.

Re: Field of Dreams games. TheMLB should look to expand this to more of mid-america. Areas usually devoid of Baseball or ease of access to a MLB Team. Incidentally a new weird statistic. Today is the first day a home run in an MLB game has ever landed in a CornField

    • Mark Moore

We switched to something else so we didn’t see the dinger into the corn.

If these type of games pan out, the can really help the game’s profile. Have to wonder how much the tickets cost given there were only 8K of them.

      • Bet on Red

yea…. With minor-league contraction this could be a way to keep the heartland on something other then College football lol

      • Bet on Red

incidentally this field will be used again next year as well… it has already been announced.

  60. RedsMonk65

Because of the timing and other responsibilities, I haven’t been able to listen to/monitor this game as closely as I normally do. Only spot checking when I get a chance. Glad to see them rolling and (maybe) getting out some of their frustrations from the last few days. Hope it carries over into Philly.

  61. Mark Moore

Oops … at least it’s a solo shot with a monster lead

    • Bet on Red

actually no lie…. I still have my Hit every inning alive cause of that HR. I am not super mad.

      • Mark Moore

and a cheapo +100 for you on that one

      • Bet on Red

and now I need another Braves hit in the 8th now.

  62. Mark Moore

Wait … was that Hoffman giving a ride?

  63. wkuchad

“How about the save rule in general is dumb” – Chris Welsh

    Lol, that was great!

  64. Bet on Red

3 runs or less save—- save the game
    3 inning save—-saves the bullpen

    • Mark Moore

      and another +100

You are racking up the points tonight!

  65. Arthur

Comment a little off-topic here, but…. How about the start to Matt McClain’s career? He’s been just about all you could hope for from a first round pick.

Anyone want to speculate where he will play when he eventually joins the Reds??

    • Bet on Red

See with me and Prospects… I look at the prospect, forget them for two years, and then they make it to AAA and then I start worrying about that.

    • Mark Moore

He’s a ways off, but it is fun to see a prospect light it up right out of the gate like that.

    • Indy Red Man

Might depend on how Barrero pans out? Maybe 2B for McClain and slide India back to 3B in 2023

  66. Bet on Red

Atlanta Detectives looking for Braves pitching as Tyler Stephenson Drops another HR

  67. J

Hoffman must be livid about the fact that Bell obviously doesn’t care if he gets hurt! (Oh, I know, I know… Hoffman has TRAINED to throw multiple innings, so his arm is immune to whatever it is that causes other relief pitchers’ arms to fall off…)

    • Arthur

How about this – if you’re gonna let him go 2, why not let him go 3 and get a save?? Then your entire bullpen EXCEPT for Hoffman is fresh rolling into Philly??

But Garrett is proving, yet again, why he really isn’t a viable major league reliever for a contending team.

  68. dhmorgan

I think I could trust AA to hold my ice cream cone.

  69. Indy Red Man

This team defintely bounces back after a horrible loss. I was going to bet them, but I forgot about the weird start time((

  70. Old-school

Aquino is a good right fielder

Lets not make this difficult when Castellanos leaves

    • Mark Moore

When … not if … I’m in agreement. He’s earned a shot at playing every day

  71. Dennis Westrick

AG incapable of pitching an inning in relief without giving up a run! Jeeeeeeezzzzz!

    • wkuchad

Yep, it’s frustrating. But he’s been solid in the past.

No way i drop him. Just consider him your #7 or #8 bullpen option for now. Mop up duty.

      • Mark Moore

He’s not first in line to be dropped, but he’s definitely suited for the role you described given there is no LOOGY role anymore.

    • Frankie Tomatoes

For crying out loud. The run was unearned because Suarez dropped a stinking pop up.

      The team won by 9!

      • 2020ball

Most here are literally addicted to complaining, doesn’t matter what actually happened as long as its one of their whipping boys.

  72. Bet on Red

Perfect title for the Post game write up—– Red Dead Redemption.

  73. Dennis Westrick

Let’s take this momentum to the City of Brotherly Love!

  74. Frankie Tomatoes

    More wins like that one!

Great pitching and a bunch of hits! Plenty of time to make up ground.

    • Mark Moore

Maybe not “plenty” but there is still time. And staying ahead of the Braves for a chance at game 163 is a good thing.

    • 2020ball

1 1/2 months is for sure plenty of time. Braves are a good team and they were very in the games they lost.

But alas, as long as theres any reason to complain about the team you know this blog will find it.
