Glad to see Stephenson back in there playing “S” today. Just kidding. 🙂

    • Doug Gray

      It stands for SUPERCATCHER, Melvin!

      • Melvin

Hey. Sounds good to me. MLB is always making rule changes. i just figured it was a new position. Was just going to roll with it. 🙂

    • Melvin

Hey. Wait a second. He just changed positions. hahaha

If i had to keep up with everything that you do Doug I’d be making A LOT more mistakes than just a tiny one like that.

  2. burtgummer01

Reds will need to score a lot of runs again today Mahle has a home era over 6

  3. Dennis Westrick

OK, I’m ready for some afternoon baseball! Yard is mowed and I went to Walgreen’s to restock on antacids for when Mahle starts to nibble and Suarez stirs up the air at home plate!

    • Melvin

Just keep your finger off of the 911 speed dial. Don’t panic. 🙂

    • Old-school

Might want to take a loading dose now Dennis.

  4. Optimist

On one hand you really need to finish the sweep here and keep winning series, and slowly catch the Brewers, 1 game every week or week and a half, and keep grinding. On the other hand, look at the schedule for August, and it’s possible that if they take 2 of 3 at Milwaukee, they could be in first by Labor Day.

  5. JA

Any team needs around 5 runs to aspire to win a game.

Let’s see what Reds teams shows up today. I have the impression that they are no good playing matinees

    • Jim Walker

Yep, the Giants and Brewers went to extra innings at 2 last night and the final ended up 9-6 (Giants favor)

      • JA

Great win by SF yesterday, a BP game for them and won to a superperpitcher.
A “regular” Cueto and SF win again today vs a decimated Mil.

It’ important the Card’s not throwing the white flag yet. Mil vs Card’s in two series i think

      • Bet on Red

Cards may not be waiving the white flag, but sometimes you dont realize that one of your legs is missing.

      • Arthur

He’s simply not capable of pitch efficiency. He is a strikeout pitcher who also likes to nibble. He needs 6-7 pitches to put away most hitters.

He can be very effective. He can strike out a bunch of hitters.

He can throw 25 pitches to get thru 1 inning, and never really be in any kind of trouble. But he can’t pitch into the 7th inning. In fact, getting thru the 6th is noteworthy.

    • Dennis Westrick

Would someone please explain that to Mahle!

      • Mark Moore

I volunteer as Tribute to talk to the man

  6. JB WV

Such negativity. I’m feeling a strong 6 by Mahle and a Winker/Castellanos show. Pull out the broom! Let’s go Refs!

    • burtgummer01

Why you rooting for the refs?

      • Doug Gray

The refs never lose. It’s very easy to root for the winners in this scenario.

      • JB WV

They need a little love now and then. Maybe steal a few calls. Typed without my glasses

  7. ScreamingStrat

Suarez back in lineup today, will a couple of days on the bench wake him up….somehow I doubt it. Here it is August and he is still batting .170 …. generally I don’t make negative comments on Reds players but geez this is sickening.

    • Dennis Westrick

Hoping for good things from Geno today!

    • beelicker

He has a hit safely in 9 of his last 1o games with 4 HRS and 4 BB b … .267 for August

    • LDS

Yep, sure glad they benched Moose. Love a .170 hitter that dogs it on the basepaths.

    • TR

An August average of .170 and 22 homeruns.

  8. doofus

Number of K’s today for Suarez: +/- 2.
    LOB: +/- 3.
Number of times he corkscrews himself into the ground on a swing and miss: +/- 7.

  9. Bet on Red

Lets go get the sweep, Got the Mahle home auto over bet in.

  10. JB

I like Shogo playing again. Naquin struggling a bit now that pitchers have found he struggles with the high strike. Competition is great and if Shogo and Suarez can get in a groove the better this team is by giving Bell options every day. When Antone and hopefully Warren comes back this can be a scary team to face in the playoffs.

    • JB WV

Seems strange since Shogo has been here over a year, but with the abbreviated season last year and sporadic playing time this year, I feel he’s never been able to get in a rhythm.

  11. Jim Walker

So, who is the Reds closer today? Looked like it was going to be Lorenzen last night until the Reds tacked on 5 big runs in the bottom of the 8th

    • Bet on Red

I strongly beleive there will not be the need for a closer today

    • Tom Mitsoff

I suspect that Sims’ first appearance will be in a non-closing role to give him a chance to work out any kinks. It would be nice if Bell could have a closer “rotation” of Lorenzen, Givens and Sims if all three pitch as we expect they might. Keeping all of them fresh could be important if it can work out that way.

      • Jim Walker

I agree. I said the other day, I thought the Reds would be doing well to have 1 of the three of Lorenzen, Sims, and Antone available and approaching fully healthy on any given day. I think that was a day or two before they acquired Givens. So, now just make it 2 of those 4 on a given day; and the starters/ other bullpen guys need to get them 7 innings.

  12. Bet on Red

In the subject of who we want to play in the playoffs. A division win would almost certainly face us up against the NL east winner. Since that is in doubt, that is what I would aim for and then face the LA/SF winner in a 7 game series

    • Mark Moore

Personally, I’d like to see us take the NLC crown because then we’re not bound for a complete crapshoot game 163 on the Left Coast.

  13. Mark Moore

Mr. PitchInEfficient racked up 24 there. That’s a lot for the first inning but, no surprise, what we’ve come to expect. Given nobody throws 120-130 these days like Seaver or Carlton or Ryan getting 5 with Mahle seems to always be a challenge.

    • jazzmanbbfan

He averages between 5-6 innings per start so 5 is what we need to come to expect. He averages slightly more than Sonny Gray, slightly less than Vald (who doesn’t average 6 innings either), slightly less than Luis Castillo, who doesn’t quite average as much as Vlad. Miley averages 6.05 innings per start so is the only one averaging “more” than 5+. Thus, it seems that anything over 5 from anyone other than Miley is icing on the cake.

      • beelicker

This is the norm for the NL … less than 6 innings and around 1oo pitches … this is why you have a deep bullpen, so they can pitch 3-4 innings every day. Ours is completely rested and ready to go

  14. Melvin

Glad to see Moose getting a day off today. He must be worn out after playing two games in a row. Three doubles, two runs, two RBI, and two BB will do that to you I guess. hahaha SSSSSSSS!!!!!! That’s the sound of a manager pouring cold water on a hot hitter. 🙂 Oh well, here’s to hoping Suarez has a career day today. Let’s just keep on winning. Let’s go!

    • Indy Red Man

Well everyone dumps on Geno, but he had 4 hrs/8 rbis (and 4 walks) in his last 9 games so he wasn’t exactly cold. A couple to RF too which is always a good sign

      • jazzmanbbfan

Indy: you’re ruining the narrative. Isn’t this the site where, as Spiro Agnew called them, “the nattering nabobs of negativism” come to roost?

    • Tom Mitsoff

Agreed. I don’t like it. But nobody asked me. 🙂

      • Melvin

        You’re kidding. They didn’t ask YOU? 🙂

    • JB

Moose just came off a major foot injury. So let’s run him into the ground and see if we can aggravate it again.

    • beelicker

Day game after a night game … don’t want to overstress that plantar fascia

  15. Indy Red Man

5 lefties and the pitcher so hopefully everything lines up for Mahle today. Reynolds ran up his pitch count, but he’s a good hitter.

  16. Arthur

That is a typical Mahle inning – he needed 23 or 24 pitches to get they the first inning, and he allowed only a dying quail to right field.

This is why I believe Greene should be called up and scheduled to follow Mahle to the mound in the 6th inning of every start Mahle makes for the rest of the season. That way, Greene can pitch 4 innings on a schedule every 5th day, and he might not be tempted to try and hit 105 on the gun. It would be like having 2 starters on one day.

  17. Dennis Westrick

Typical 1st inning for the pitch efficient Mahle! 24 pitches! Another 5 inning outing for TM at best!

    • Indy Red Man

He threw strikes…..whats he supposed to do? He’s good enough where they don’t square it up easily, but he’s not dominant enough to K many of them quickly so it is what it is. He can’t pitch to contact enough because they don’t keep the ball fair.

      • Old-school

He doesn’t have a put away pitch other than his fastball and he doesn’t induce weak contact but he has that elite fastball location.

Maybe he doesn’t nibble so much as he cant put guys away. He needs a second pitch beyond elite fastball to get swings and misses or a sinker /change up to get weak contact.

        Send him to Boddy’s lab.

I’d like to see a sinker/change to help ground balls since his kryptonite is HR in GABP

    • Mark Moore

I’m trying to coin the name Mr PitchInEfficient to go along with Sir Strandsalot

      • dhmorgan

We’ll try to help you out here.

  18. Bet on Red

seems Joey and Nick have both changed up their walk-up music.

  19. Indy Red Man

Taking the Under next time with this clown of an ump. Gives 3-4 inches outside.
3-2 or 3-1 type of game I think. Hope we get the 3

    • Bet on Red

yep…. kinda in trouble without an offensive explosion

    • beelicker

Both these guys have been pounding the zone and pitching like it’s getaway day so far … lots of foul balls

  20. Indy Red Man

Morgan better then Bench? Depends on the year I think? Almost everyone ran alot back then and Bench shut that stuff down like nobody ever except maybe Pudge Rodriguez. Then throw in 40 HRs too

    • Tom Mitsoff

During 75 and 76, it is a very compelling argument that Morgan was not only better than Bench, but perhaps had two of the most effective offensive seasons by a player in the history of the game.

    • Melvin

Morgan was awesome in many ways. I met him at the Reds Hall Of Fame several years ago and told him that he was my favorite player of all time other than Johnny Bench. He said being second to Johnny Bench is not too bad. As great as he was he was humble as well.

  21. Arthur

Mahle is dealing today. I can see 10+ strikeouts coming.

Need to get him a few runs before the inevitable pitch count catches up with him.

  22. VaRedsFan

Bob Costas in the booth….what a joy to listen too when talking baseball.

    • RedsMonk65

Yes, I always enjoy listening to Costas.

As far as who was better than who on the BRM… pointless. As a unit, they were unbelievable and the teams members complemented one another well. Morgan, Rose, Bench, Perez, Foster, Griffey, Concepcion, Geronimo….where do you start? They each brought something. As a team, well they were the BIG RED MACHINE.

      • Melvin

No doubt. To me in my mind, the true Big Red Machine was only around while the “Great Eight” were on the team together.

    • TR

None better than Bob Costas. We can’t blame him for being a St. Louis guy.

  23. Old-school

    Reds in a ball game.
Need to zero in and manufacture some runs and get to 10 under.
    Only 52 games left.

    • Tom Mitsoff

Pittsburgh’s pitcher looks legit. This game is going to be much different than the first three.

  24. Dennis Westrick

Had to step away from the proceedings for a little bit! Checked the box score and saw that Geno struck out! Shocking!

  25. Mark Moore

Mental and then actual error by Geno. And Larkin is saying they scored it a hit. I’d have to disagree. Maybe Farmer should have called him off?

    • Dennis Westrick

How many ways can Geno hurt us in a single game? He’s an OSHA case study!

      • Mark Moore

+500 because that made me laugh. Have to also take back via -400 because it’s true.

  26. Bet on Red

ALright, that wasnt good. freak accident. Reds got to get the bats awake

  27. Indy Red Man

Ugghhh. Gift run there. Ball is right to Farmer….idk? Did he not call it off or did Geno ignore him? Then all Geno has to do is knock it down atleast to save the run.

  28. Indy Red Man

Tough earned run there. That ball has to atleast be held on the infield. Idk? Thats an error in my book

  29. kevinz

Come on Got a Bounce now.
    Make it count.

  30. Mark Moore

A pure luck GR2B!!! Let’s hope that leads to something. Sadak is talking “fate” so …

  31. VaRedsFan

Geno should be able to reach down and glove that ball, I don’t understand the need to make a sliding attempt to his left. Votto does the same thing on the other side. He has to to fall down on most every hard hit ground ball hit to him. Moose did it the other night too.

I think they realize if they go to the ground, they are most likely not going to charged with an error.

  32. Indy Red Man

Wink with another line smash double))) Man he could do 50 doubles and 35 hrs (or 30). Thats a special season!

  33. Mark Moore

And now for Mr. Votto’s Show …

  34. Mark Moore

Casty had to hold up … nice result even if it was just a single.

    • Mark Moore

House was almost in the dugout stopping Casty.

  35. Bet on Red

It was fate…… Votto ties it. reds seem to only want to produce when Pittsburg has the audacity to attempt to make a game from it.

  36. Mark Moore

Kiss your pinkie and smack it out, TySteve!!

  37. Mark Moore

    We’ll take that result.

Love Tyler’s hustle. Good move by Park to eat it.

  38. Bet on Red

    Castro nearly airmailed it there.

    • Mark Moore

Thought he did for a split second

  39. Arthur

Inability to execute a very simple double play grounder gonna cost the Pirates.

Rest of the order has to make them pay for giving us an extra runner and an extra out.

  40. Indy Red Man

Hit my bet on Joey Over 0.5 rbi $$$

Nick standing around and planning on styling on Joey’s hr though. How can you only make 3rd on that? Bell needs to start hitting these guys with $5K fines. Thats unacceptable. Happens wayyyyyyyy too often

    • JB

Totally agree. Nobody was getting to that ball. Nick went back to tag up. Totally misread that ball.

    • Mark Moore

He started and went back. Looked to me like his line of sight had that possibly being caught, so he was tagging.

      • Mark Moore

But moot point since he scored anyway.

    • VaRedsFan

It was a poor read for sure, but he went back to tag to get to 3rd with 1 out if caught.

    • Slicc50

You are right Indy, would love to see them stop doing that so often. Will get you beat against good teams

  41. Bet on Red

Farmer keeps it going. Time for Suarez’s one moment of the week.

  42. Mark Moore

Tyler’s hustle leads to a run because Park ate another throw (wisely)

  43. Old-school

Reds with a big answer and a statement in the bottom of the 4th.
    Fun team

  44. RedsMonk65

Top two-thirds of the order coming to life!

  45. Bet on Red

Dont look now, SF up early with a non-Cy young pitcher for the brewers on the mound

  46. Old-school

    India ROY
    Winker and Castellanos All stars
Votto on pace for 30 homers and a 3 war+ season and best since 2017

Kyle Farmer SS is just below Francisco Linder in fWAR at SS.
Farmer 1.6 coming into this game. Linder 1.8.

This is turning into a 1999 type season.

I do believe they make the playoffs and win 90.I hate the wildcard format but it is what it is.

    Sp is solid 1-5.

    • JB

I said 3 weeks ago the Reds will win the central and I’m sticking to it.

      • Slicc50

Yes, this is a good baseball team. It would be nice to gain a game today!

    • Tom Mitsoff

And don’t forget Gutierrez … 7-3, 4.15! He came out of nowhere, never having the kind of minor league statistics that would have made anyone see him as a potential major league rotation mainstay.

    • Mark A Verticchio

The guest honoring Joe Morgan are great but, I am missing Sam Lecure today. He adds a lot to the broadcast.

  47. Slicc50

Can anyone tell me how long Farmer has used his current batting stance? I mostly have to listen to games, I’d like to know how he is so good now!

    • Tom Mitsoff

I don’t have specifics, but I do remember reading that David Bell suggested to him that he move closer to the plate sometime in late July, and that change coincides with the recent very hot streak.

      • JB

Seems like Votto and Winker are closer to the plate as well.

    • kevinz

      Not sure on How long.
But he Moved closer to the Plate.
Could not reach pitches on the outside before.

  48. RedsMonk65

Pitch efficiency aside, Mahle having himself a game. Through 5, four hits, one run, NO WALKS, and NINE K’s!

  49. Indy Red Man

I have Mahle on my fbb teams. Still don’t like that being called an earned run? Thats an infield single and error imo. He’s got to knock the ball down since it was hit so softly.

  50. Mark Moore

Mahle needs to be rock steady here. And Jobu needs to wake up bats!!

    • RedsMonk65

Well, as soon as I compliment Mahle’s performance, he gives up the long ball.

Beginning to dislike that Hayes guy!

    • Mark Moore

On replay it did kind of look like a cement mixer. Hayes is a good young player.

      • RedsMonk65

        Yeah, I think I hate him. 😉

Reds need to score more runs….

      • JB

But will he be a Pirate in 2 to 3 years. Hard to be a fan of that organization. Hey let’s trade everybody who is good and build around nothing.

  51. Bet on Red

You may see it as a homerun, but when the Reds bats go nuts half inning, we all know it was a Pittsburg mistake.

  52. Slicc50

Hayes turned on that one, hit it hard. One run game now, we need a few more runs!

  53. VaRedsFan

Hayes is a superstar in the making.
    McCutchen v2.0?

    • Mark Moore

Yes, I’d say that’s a possibility. But I doubt he’ll stay long. Trade away talent is what the Pie-Rats do these days. They only have the thinner, younger, less talented Stupid Cubs to rival them next season.

  54. Slicc50

Heath Hembree up, NO! Anyone but him! LOL

  55. Indy Red Man

They’re hitting smashes and Sadak announces HH is warming up….I pounded my keyboard and woke my dog up)))

  56. Old-school

Bryse Wilson is a good pitcher.
He’s missed bats and caused some uncomfortable at bats for the Reds. Reds did a good job in the 4th getting 3 on the board.
Mahle got them 6 solid innings.

    It’s a baseball game.
Gotta add on and the bullpen needs to get 9 outs.

Moose needs in the game very soon.

    • beelicker

Yeah and you want a meaningful pinch hit opportunity be what ends Mahle’s day here

  57. Bet on Red

Suarez saves a run there I will give him that

    • Mark Moore

He did at that. Timed it well. And the leaner Geno is the one that can make that leap. Not so sure about the prior version of him.

  58. dhmorgan

All right, it’s almost time to play Reds Roulette.
Who will be the lucky winners out of the bullpen today?

  59. Indy Red Man

    7th-8th Lorenzen
    9th Givens
    Game Over

Maybe let AG get 1 lefty if Lorenzen struggles that 2nd inning or something

    • Mark Moore

Would have to be the last out of an inning, but I’d roll with that plan.

    • beelicker

Do not waste Lorenzen’s future availability pitching him against bottom of the order hitters … especially with a deep and well rested bullpen

      • Indy Red Man

We’ve blown too many late leads. I’m going with my best to win the game.

  60. VaRedsFan

6 innings and 2 runs for Mahle…I think we’ll all take that.
    Pirates Caveat though.

    • Mark Moore

True and true. But we’ll take it.

  61. JB

Wow the one daughter looks just like little Joe Morgan.

  62. Mark Moore

Went with another pitch and he’s on second … got to love seeing him do that. Too bad he’s playing in the same year as India so RoY is out of the question.

    • VaRedsFan

Still 2 months left….Let’s hope they finish 1-2

    • Arthur

Totally agree – in another season, Ty Steve might be serious ROY candidate.

And I believe that Vlad is leading all rookie pitchers in wins with 7. He also might have been a good candidate but for the play of Mr India.

How cool would it be to see the Reds get 3 of the top 5 vote-getters for ROY??

  63. Mark Moore

Just like India, Farmer was a little early on that one.

  64. Bet on Red

you know now that I saw a full body shot, someone has gotten Jim day to participate in Gym day because he has lost weight.

    • Mark Moore

Thought the same thing when I saw him earlier.

    • JB

I was thinking that yesterday when he interviewed Winker. He looks great.

  65. Indy Red Man

Arizona – Bumgarner vs SD – Snell later. Bumgarner actually has the lower era.

    • Bet on Red

it has not been snells year this year

  66. Mark Moore

I don’t like Hayes and I’m not too fond of Reynolds either right now.

  67. Slicc50

LOL, that pitch was a few inches outside!

  68. JB

Suarez got screwed on that. That pitch wasnt even close.

  69. kevinz

Reynolds catch could be difference in this game.
    Hope able get more chances.

  70. Bet on Red

Wow. Even with an expanded zone, that was WAY outside. Not faulting Suarez for that strikeout. Chasing after it would have started bad habbits,

    • Old-school

Yeah. Suarez didnt deserve that K.
      It’s the other 134 that’s the problem.

Sorry but the Reds are simply a better team with Moustakas in the lineup instead of Suarez.

    • Bet on Red

overall true. But does not change the fact that Suarez was given the business there with that zone.

      • LDS

Maybe so, but bad zones and bad luck are part of the game. The other problem with this game is that it’s too close and provides an opportunity for Bell to display his management prowess. They need to run the score up a bit for insurance, keeping Bell on the sidelines.

      • beelicker

Way outside … you don’t want players getting into bad habits swinging at pitches outside the zone like that … smh

      • LDS

Bad habits? Like chasing a bad pitch would be a new habit for Suarez? I’d be less critical if he actually tried to change things or if he played full out. But neither have been much in evidence recently. And at roughly $11M a year, one should expect a bit of professionalism. Votto gets benched and he adjusts. Still isn’t hitting LH’ers but he’s knocking the stuffing out of RH’ers. So while I’ve been critical of JV in the past and advocated his retirement, I withdraw that and state simply that Bell needs to platoon him against LH’ers. Suarez? Still no visible progress.

      • beelicker

Doesn’t change the fact that even for the 2 strike getaway day situation, mlb cast at least showed it was far enough outside you really don’t want any of your hitters swinging at balls that far outside the strikezone

  72. Old-school

Lorenzen in the bullpen warming up per C Trent

    Win this game!!!

  73. Bet on Red

No relief pitchers yet, Mahle pitching in the 7th.

    • Arthur

Really surprised to see Mahle go out for the 7th over 100 pitches.

But – if he’s gonna be a stud pitcher, let him be a stud.

  74. Old-School

Gutierrez and Mahle answered the bell at GABP.

They are much better on the road.

  75. JB

Mahle says I’ll just strike stallings out since the ump cant do his job.

  76. Old-school

Tyler Mahle giving the Sonny Gray grunt.
    Competing too. Great job.
    7 innings in GABP

    • Slicc50

I like that Bell let him go out there for the 7th, even at 95 pitches

  77. Slicc50

Ok Tyler, you did your job well today! Let’s score a couple more now!

  78. Indy Red Man

Sims should be back there with Justin Wilson and both should be ahead of HH, AG, and Doolittle. No reason whatsoever to pitch HH in a game like this with Lorenzen, Cessa, and Givens available

Great game for Mr Mahle!! Should’ve been 1 run

  79. Arthur

Only need 2 innings instead of 3 from the bullpen.

For this bullpen, that’s a significant difference.

Givens, then Lorenzen?? That should get the job done.

  80. Old-school

Love joe Morgan and he is my third favorite Reds ever.
Bench # 1- greatest catcher ever and career Red
Votto#2 -greatest hitter ever and career Red
Morgan/Rose tied #3- both great HOF but played elsewhere. Morgan wins on character

    • Old-school

Votto greatest reds hitter ever..not mlb

      • JB

Ask me tomorrow and I might give you 3 different players.

  81. Mark Moore

Put the Morgan era team, the 1990 bunch, and most of our guys in a bag, shake ’em up, and you’d have a pretty fine ballclub.

  82. kevinz

    Feel like needed a run.
Hope 7th does not burn reds.

    • kevinz

      Votto Nice Pick.
      Thanks for Bunt though Moran.
      Usually kills us.

      • kevinz

        Need this one.
Show can win in different way.
Cannot score like crazy all the time.
        Even if vs Pirates.

  83. Bet on Red

Just putting it out there…. I am not going to Miami valley Gaming until they have better commercials…

      • Mark Moore

Don’t play innocent with us BoR. You know who we are by now. You’d have been disappointed if nobody responded with something like that.

  84. Bet on Red

Colin Moran just gave us that inning.

  85. Mark Moore

Nice pick by Joey there. Good reaction by Mikey to get it off the bunt.

  86. Old-school

Lorenzen showing his athleticism, dont know who that #19 is at first base with the back hand scoop

    • Mark Moore

Mikey threw a laser … it was a little off target, but an absolute laser. Joey pulled it up very nicely.

  87. Tom Mitsoff

Not only has Votto’s offensive production improved, but so has his defense. That dig out of the dirt was difficult for him in recent years. Today and many times this year, he’s made it look like no big deal. 😉

    • Mark Moore

Agreed. That scoop and starting the DP off the tarp were pretty sweet.

  88. Mark Moore

OK, Jobu … now would be the time.

  89. Old-school

If the Reds get 3 more outs, this season legitimately has playoff potential. Reds would be 10 over .500 in early August.

    Let’s go!

Give the ball to Lorenzen again in the 9th and get to 10 over .500

    • Mark Moore

Doesn’t look like it. Givens going to take the bump. I have no problem with him pitching, but Mikey was pretty good and barely threw. Now Givens HAS to pitch to 3 batters. Tinker could have given Mikey one more and gone on a batter-by-batter basis.

It’s like he doesn’t pay attention to the 3-batter minimum thing. I’m just baffled.

  90. vared

Wish Lorenzen would get the 9th also, with Givens ready just in case.

    • Mark Moore

96 then 81 with the same arm angle. Then that weak garbage and a quick throw.

  91. Indy Red Man

Joey has been much improved defensively and baserunning both this year. Very impressed! Bunting on the Reds most athletic pitcher probably not that wise, but thank you!

Lorenzen/Givens sign them both please. We need that next year to keep moving forward! Antone with those hard sliders….don’t know that he’ll put up alot of innings

    • Alan Horn

Agree we need to resign both. They are making a difference since their arrival on the mound.

  92. RedsMonk65

Nice win, and the sweep. Bats weren’t overwhelming today, but came through when they had to. The pitching was phenomenal. On to Cleveland, then Atlanta.

  93. Indy Red Man

Lorenzen and the 3 new guys = 1 er on Cessa and thats it. Close to 20 innings total by now?

  94. Mark Moore

Pretty sweet win on 8/8 day. Didn’t muster the offense, but got it done in the end.

Mikey to Givens at the end of the game with Sims now back and other options could bode very well for us.

Who will Jim Day interview today?

  95. kevinz

    Well done reds baby.
    Mahle Set the Tone.
    Did what suppose to do.
But did it on the field.
    All that matters.
    Go Reds.
Now can relax with no nerves lol.

  96. Bet on Red

Reds get the sweep. Now we get to play, guess the DH in the makeup game at Cleveland tomorrow. TIme to be a Diamondback, Angels Giants fan.

    • Mark Moore

Forgot we get to DH tomorrow. Did see it was up the street, but an extra hitter is a good thing.

6:10 EDT start. Be there or be square.

  97. Mark Moore

Oh, and Dennis … you can breathe now.

    • Dennis Westrick

Breathing comfortably now! Go Snakes! Go Giants!

  98. Mark Moore

Senzel back in the lineup today in CF. 1-for-1 with an RBI. Up to bat now.

  99. Alan Horn

It is a good feeling going into the 8th with a one run lead to have Lorenzen and Givens finishing things up. It makes a huge difference.

  100. Mark A Verticchio

Brandon Belt belts one 4-4. Cutting lead to 5 would be huge.

  101. Lego

Reminds me of what the Reds used to do to the Braves in the late 70’s…didn’t matter if the game was high scoring, low scoring, Niekro starting, someone else starting…they were the ultimate punching bag. Let us hope this week is as enjoyable.

  102. Votto4life

Brewers potential tying run Eduardo Escobar failed to touch second base on his way back to first base ended in a brutal DP for the Brewers in the 8th. 5-4 Giants in the 9th.

  103. centerfield

Ok can we keep Mahle in the rotation now instead of sending him to the bullpen?
