Starting Pitchers

Vladimir Gutierrez

Coming off of a quality start, Vladimir Gutierrez will be looking to pick up where he left off against Kansas City as he takes on the Brewers this evening. His ERA on the season currently sits at 4.67. Against Kansas City he didn’t allow a home run for the first time since his start on June 9th against the Brewers.

Tonight will be the third time he’s faced Milwaukee. He’s thrown 13 innings and allowed four runs with 10 hits, five walks, and 13 strikeouts in those two games against the Brewers with the Reds winning both games.

Gutierrez has fairly big splits on two fronts. Lefties are hitting just .200/310/.387 against him this year while righties are hitting .266/.330/.489 against him. Left-handed hitters, however, have 12 walks and 13 strikeouts against him – they just aren’t getting hits when they made contact. The home and road splits are big, too. On the road Gutierrez has held opponents to a .218/.304/.386 line with a 4.00 ERA. At home those numbers are .265/.346/.529 with a 5.71 ERA.

Freddy Peralta

One of the better pitchers in the National League this year, Freddy Peralta has a 2.23 ERA in 16 starts and one relief appearance. He’s allowed just 42 hits in 93.0 innings and he’s struck out 129 batters. He walks plenty of batters – he has 42 of them on the season – but it’s tough to string together hits against him.

Peralta has dominated both lefties and righties this year. Lefties have hit him better, posting a .135/.253/.287 line against him. Righties are hitting just .129/.224/.238 against him. He has also been better at home, holding hitters to a .108/.203/.210 line and a 1.72 ERA while pitching in Milwaukee this season.

News and Notes

What’s it like to play for David Bell?

Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer spoke with Joey Votto, Eugenio Suárez, Jesse Winker, Nick Castellanos, Luis Castillo, Tucker Barnhart, Tyler Stephenson, Kyle Farmer, and Sean Doolittle to get their opinions and thoughts on what it’s like to play for manager David Bell. Go give it a read. Here’s what Doolittle had to say:

Speaking as a reliever, the communication with the bullpen as far as usage and roles is something that we’ve been working on all year. He goes around before the game every day, finds each one of us and really communicates the potential scenarios (when) they see us coming into the game so that we know what’s going on down there… That’s an example of a manager who really wants his players to feel comfortable so they know how to prepare.

  1. CFD3000

I’m dismissing those playoff odds. The Reds have played better and have a better record over their last 45 or so games, due in part to a sorting out of the bullpen and rotation (meaning Luis Castillo started being Luis Castillo). If you get back some good, healthy relievers and don’t lose key bats, I like the Reds odds of chasing down Milwaukee and/or San Diego a whole lot more than 16%. I’d like them even more with a win tonight. Go Reds!

  2. JB

    Cardinals 0.0% playoff odds.
    That just makes me smile.

  3. Jimbo44CN

Why in Gods name are Suarez and Freeman in the lineup? I know Farmer may need a day off, but can’t you put Lopez in Suarez’s spot? If anything, he has gotten worse over the last few days.

    • JayTheRed

I’ll take this one Suarez is in the lineup so he can hit a HR off Josh Hader one of the best relievers in the game to take the lead and keep it for the win.

Oh and by the way he has 18 HR’s now too same as Castellanos.

  4. Max Hennessey

For all the frustration around Suarez, the rest of the lineup has picked up plenty of slack and given Bell the chance to keep running Suarez out there in the hopes that he can become a meaningful contributer again

    • LDS

How many DPs and SOs before he has officially becomes a meaningful contributor again?

  5. Rex

the REDS have to catch and pass LAD, SD or MIL…them numbers are about right

MIL vs AZ 6-1 REDS vs AZ 1-5 stands out to me

we have a chance but we need one of them to stumble a bit

    • Mark Moore

At least a bit if not more. And having the Bernies stumble is the straightest path. With the NLW you have to factor SF into the mix as well.

  6. Mark Moore

If Geno pockets the prior ball, it’s just bases loaded instead of 1 run in.

  7. Mark Moore

And Geno starts with a very Geno at bat. At least that’s consistent. My wife was talking to the screen on the first two strikes.

  8. Bet on Red

Picked a great day for the under i did. Reds batting not inspiring first time through the order. Side note decided to watch the nationally televised game at the local BWW. Forgot that the McGregor fight was tonight.

    • Mark Moore

Pretty pedestrian through 2 innings and 6 batters, that’s for certain.

  9. Mark Moore

    Nibble, nibble, nibble … UGH!!

  10. Old-school

    Nick senzel is the 3b

    India turned out ok

    Stephenson is ok

    Move forward

  11. J

I can’t really believe it’s just a coincidence that so many Reds pitchers (who aren’t named Miley) seem to have the same philosophy: Get ahead in the count, then throw at least two or three pitches nowhere near the strike zone and hope their hitters chase it like Suarez would. Who’s making these decisions?

    • Mark Moore

See my comment above re: nibbling

      • J

I think of “nibbling” as throwing pitches a few inches outside the zone. I’d welcome that kind of nibbling on an 0-2 or 1-2 count. What they’re doing is bouncing balls in front of the plate, throwing two feet high, etc. Those are what I would call “waste pitches,” and they really are a complete waste.

      • Mark Moore

Fair enough, J. That type of nibbling is what a pitcher can do successfully as opposed to our guys.

  12. Old-school

    Acuna carted off R knee
    Braves are done

    • JayTheRed

I’m actually sad about it.. This guy is a face for Major League Baseball and it doesn’t look good at all. He could be done for the season. Hopefully it’s not as serious as it seems. Wonder who takes his spot in the Starting lineup for the All Star game. Probably Mookie Betts. Not sure though.

Yes this will hurt the Braves chances a lot, but never count out the Braves they seem to be good no matter who they throw out there.

  13. J

I think it’s been at least a couple weeks since anyone has even attempted to bunt for a hit. Am I forgetting anything? There was one game where they did it a couple times, but that feels like ages ago.

  14. Broseph

Shouldve sat down Eugenio prior to the break to let it sink in a bit. This is negative reinforcement – you keep doing poorly and the behavior is reinforced via playing time. I know most people associate this with training pets and professional athletes all have a competitive drive, but all human beings react in a very similar way. If your boss is ok with you slacking off a bit, what’s the incentive to go above and beyond?

Time for some tough love with Suarez, and him playing tonight is not doing him, or this team any favors. This is all a subjective, personal opinion of course.

    • Mark Moore

You’ll find plenty here who agree with you. I certainly do.

    • Dennis Westrick

Yes, like Time Out for your kids!

  15. Bet on Red

Votto gets another walk. Only hope here is to push the pitch count and get him out of the game. Its obvious his slider is on today

  16. Old-school

What is redlegnation to do now that winker isnt hitting .345 and Castellanos doesnt homer or double every other day?

Maybe its time 3b doesnt hit .175 and SS isnt -.3 WAR and joey votto either hits lefties or is platooned

Winker and Castellanos cant fix that.

    • Roger Garrett

Yeah and you knew we had rode them for a long time.Others will have to step up.

  17. JB

It’s like we dont have to start watching every game until the 6th inning. That’s when the offense seems to show up.

    • Mark A Moore

Kind of seems that way lately

  18. Mark Moore

Naquin is making Peralta work for it

      • Broseph

Still. A productive AB. We won’t see Peralta all night and as the announcers astutely observed, most Reds hitters are guessing or hesitant. One of the few occasions they’re looking forward to Milwaukee’s bullpen.

  19. LDS

Heading for a no-hitter? Pinch hit for Suarez to open the next inning and let him start again, maybe in August.

  20. Old-school

Refs have the worst SS/3b combo in mlb and perhaps in decades .

Time to change at the break

    This cant possibly stand

Suarez has to be benched and farmer/ freeman SS platoon is worst SS combo in years

    Just stop

Put senzel at 3b and if Barrero
Isnt ready get someone who is. This is a joke

  21. Roger Garrett

Peralta got us looking bad so far.Need to make some adjustments.Third time we have seen him so we should know what he is doing.

    • Mark Moore

And we’ll let him off the hook with a quick inning here.

    • RedAlert

Agree – front office and ownership a
      complete farce .

They won’t do Jack squat at the all star break or at trade deadline. Expect a bunch of jibberish and lip service , they’re
      professionals at that .

  22. Bet on Red

Mentioning the no hitter to break it up. Shame cause Vlad is also bringing it. Had a hiccup in the first but otherwise impressive

    • Bet on Red

And it works with the oppo by Jesse. 2 on no outs, must make some moves here now the no no is gone, peralta will deflate

  23. Roger Garrett

Yeah when we are just hoping for a hit its almost like we are giving up on scoring.

  24. JB

Suarez is up. He will be the guy that breaks up the no no. Go figure right?

    • JB

Some reason I thought Suarez was up. Sleeping here I guess.

    • Mark Moore

Nope, It was Winker. Nice play by Adames or India would have been on 3B.

  25. MBS

Gutierrez is a legit starter, and he’s got to be a starter in 22 as well.

  26. Old-school

    Reds no hit thru 5

    0-15 with 2bb

This is what happens when management ignores 3b/ss

    Winker and Castellanos are good

They cant fix putrid at 3b/ss

Hope the reds dont get no hit but maybe they need to get embarrassed by Milwaukee pitching to effect change

    Suarez needs to be benched
The Reds need a real SS

    • LDS

Winker is good but remember he doesn’t hit lefties either. 2 walks & 2 HBP? And there goes the no-hitter, finally

    • MBS

It’s a team effort to be no hit through 5 innings. But I agree, Suarez needs some real time off. He needs to realize if he doesn’t change his approach, he won’t be an everyday player.

  27. JB

A HIT!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said up above, just start watching in the 6th inning. That’s when the Reds show up.

    • Mark Moore

You did call it. That I’ll vouch for.

      • JB

Need to get a run here or we will see William’s next inning

    • Mark Moore

Yeah, you really called it. Rainbow shot!

    • LDS

If the Reds FO doESN’t offer him a deal to stay in Cincinnati, they are not interested in winning.

  28. Slicc50

YES! NICK C. Big one there, would be really nice to win this game!

  29. Rex

    Saint Nick for 3!

    Make my beer taste better!

  30. JB

That will keep Williams and Hader on the bench.

  31. JB

If Peralta wanted that pitch that was a ball to be a strike, he should have pitched last night.

  32. Bet on Red

If you ever wanted to see how a broken back translates to baseball you just did. Nick takes advantage of ball/strike 3 and booms the ball out. Now the despair can stop on this thread

    • Bet on Red

Amd council has been thrown out. Bonus!!!

    • Slicc50

I’m really starting to believe in these guys, they never stop playing ball.

      • RedsMonk65

They never stop battling, that’s for sure. In some recent seasons, that was not the case.

  33. ClevelandRedsFan

Formal petition to replace all “C”s everywhere with a “BL”

  34. J

After showing bunt (!), it looked to me that Winker was trying to go the other way on his hit. That was big.

  35. Roger Garrett

Top of the order comes through again.Big big hit by Casty after India and Wink reach.Council wastes no time to bring in the soft tossing lefty.Would be great to get more off of him.

    • Rex

he has been trying for 3 days to get tossed

      • Mark Moore

I thought he was getting tossed last night.

    • JB

I think the ump has called a good game today and the 2 pitches Peralta wanted were balls.

      • MBS

I’d want that call to if I were Counsel, but it was a bad one to get ejected for. So many worse calls in the first 2 games.

    • Bet on Red

And now yelich its the best day ever

  36. J

Of all the horrible calls in this series, a manager finally gets tossed arguing a call that was probably correct.

  37. JB

Peralta looks mad but cant blame the ump. He was the one that threw the cookie to Nick.

  38. LGR

Suarez’s head gets pulled so far on some of his strikeouts. It’s insane.

    • LGR

He really should try going down that left line all the time. Until they start not shifting so hard. Gotta make adjustments sometimes.

    • RojoB

      Ump never called him safe.

Yelich made a flinch towards fair territory and never retreated into foul territory. Very presumptuous of him and I’m glad the ump did it.

The Brewers are in major implosion mode.

      A fragile team

  39. Mark Moore

Not sure I agree with the call, though I’m not complaining about the result.

  40. MBS

Milwaukee is imploding. Add on next inning Reds

  41. Old-school

    India is ROY
    Castellanos is MVP
    Winker is a good hitter

Stiil wont get you to the playoffs

Fix 3b and SS and bullpen

    • RojoB

You know on MLB dot com they had an article on ROY candidates and mentioned Stephenson but NOT India?

      bias

  42. Mark Moore

Almost feels like a turning point, but we shall see.

    • RojoB

IF our Rojos can stomp on their necks. If you let them breathe they may just rally.

These Brewers are the LUCKIEST hitters i’ve seen–how else to you explain their position when they have the worst offense in the league?

    • Rex

yes but I’m weak and have wrongly felt it before

  43. Mark Moore

The crowd reactions are great. Got to love fans that get into the game.

    • RojoB

It is sweet sweet music to Reds fans. The Reds have to be loving it.

      • Rex

I want to hear that in St louis and Chicago

  44. Bet on Red

There was a slight, and i do mean slight move by yelich to 2nd there. The out call was correct. Yellich has the opertunity to give up and turn towards the Mil dougout but failed to do so. Always tag on that play worst thing that can happen is nothing

    • RojoB

the ump did not give him his desired prima dona nod there.

I agree with the Ump, and all else here giving props to India for noticing that the ump hadn’t made a call yet

    • JB

Yep it was the correct call. I honestly think India knew it too.

      • Rex

he knew…I watched 4 or 5 times India was hiding his smile as he tagged him

    • Mark Moore

Extremely slight. Ump was all over it and India did what he should do.

  45. kevinz

    Need finish this Game.
Walks not the way to do it at all.

  46. RojoB

    Sit down, Narvaez!

Thanks for the gift, Brewers’ 3B coach!

  47. Mark Moore

Pressing his luck. It was close, but no cigar. Nice relay.

  48. RedAlert

Get Guiterrez out of the game Bell !!! Don’t run him out there next inning !!!!!!

  49. J

All of a sudden this is the best defense in the majors?

    • LGR

They tend to make the harder plays and miss the easy ones.

  50. kevinz

Defense has been shaky at times.
But the relay to home seem to do quite well.

  51. JB

2 walks and a great pick and throw by Freeman this game.

  52. JA

I copy more or less by hearth a message in another post. Umpire’s mistakes are part of the game. Those batters/pitchers who are able to not engage from a bad call usually win that particular duel.

(What important HR by NC.. he has been silent in the series until now.)

  53. J

Throw to home was great, Tucker was great as usual, and Winker did a good job of getting rid of it quickly. Weird to see the Reds playing such good defense.

  54. JB

I dont think Freeman went but the ump figured he better say he did or the fans might storm the field.

  55. Old-school

Winker another great throw in a crucial game against the brewers to get an out to eliminate a potential run

    Back to back games

    • JB

Also Winker got to that ball quick before it rolled around. Just a great all around play by all 3 guys.

  56. Old-school

    Cards crushing the cubs

Reds can get 4 games up in the loss column on both and cyt brewers to 5

Biggest 2 innings of the year

    Go reds bullpen

    Need it NOW!!!!

  57. kevinz

Come on BP still iffy about it at this Point.
Nervous when have to cover 3 innings.
    Need more runs.

  58. JB

Milwaukee fans get a little restless when they have to play somebody other than Pittsburgh,Colorado and Arizona. They just had a 30 game stretch where they played those teams 21 of the 30.

    • Jim

Votto strikes out again with runners in scoring position!!! I guess that is why he is batting 4th

  59. earmbrister

Dudes and dudettes: You do know that the Copa America final is on right now, right?

    • MBS

Argentina v Brazil, but the Reds are on, so…

      • earmbrister

JB, because BB has more action than soccer?

    • jazzmanbbfan

Watched the match on my phone and the Reds on TV. Don’t have cable or satellite so this is the first time I have seen them this year. Just listen on radio when I am able.

  60. kevinz

Hate when umps feed into the crowd.
Seeing that as of now smh.

    • RojoB

If i read Joey’s lips correctly, when he came back out it was to say “It’s not about you! It’s not about you!”

Guess we’re all tired of #umpshow

  61. Mark Moore

He didn’t go from what I saw. But to be consistent, you have to toss him. Wonder what coming back on the field will cost him.

    • RojoB

He didn’t break his wrists, and he kept the bat head out of the hitting zone.

    • Old-school

My guess is that Bell is trying to grow Garrett’s confidence. K the side, thank you very much – time for a shower.

      • RED THUNDER

Yeah, I just wish Bell would ride the Arm that is hot this week. Seems Amir is the hot one at the moment. Next week it could be someone else! With what we have, he needs some plan for making it work especially with this bunch. Good Luck Mr. Bell

    • J

Garrett needed 13 pitches to strike out the side, so obviously he must have been exhausted.

  69. JB

Brach you were doing so good. Now your garbage again.

    • BatsLeftThrowsRight

Brach’s been overused. He has a dead arm, you don’t bring a guy in who makes his living throwing the low strike who isn’t going to get any low strikes called thanks to a stubborn umpire tonight. Bell is clueless.

  70. LDS

I think it’s fair to say that Branch’s day in the sun has ended. Second game of the series he has done this. Bell, what more can I say.

  74. JEFF MORRIS

Why not leave Amir Garrett in there for a 2nd inning, he is pitching very well…Art Warren maybe? I would have left Amir Garrett in there another inning, since he struck out the side in the bottom of the 7th! Obviously, Bell thinking that….actually not sure what Bell is thinking???

    • earmbrister

      As I said above …

My guess is that Bell is trying to grow Garrett’s confidence. K the side, thank you very much – time for a shower.

  76. Dennis Westrick

Always a walk by Reds relief pitcher precedes the HR!

  77. LGR

The fact this team is 4 games over .500 with this pen tells you the team as a whole has potential. The fact the Brewers have made 2 trades to try and help their team and the Reds have made 0 to help the pen says it all.

    • Rex

it is a shame how many blown games we have had this year

With a bullpen as shaky as this one, how many other managers would remove a pitcher who struck out the side on 13 pitches? And nobody better try to tell me that Bell has more inside information than we do. He is simply not good at this.

    • Vintage70sdude

Or throw a sinker ball pitcher when the ump isn’t calling low strikes. Or throw the guy that lost the last game.

    • Redgoggles

Garrett hasn’t exactly been a model of (good) consistency this year. What makes you so convinced that he wouldn’t have given it up the next inning. But, go ahead and blame the manager who literally has zero quality bullpen options at the moment.

  79. TyGuy88

(Gonna keep saying this) Front office – this bullpen is atrocious. Even with Antone, Sims, and Lorenzen (who are all not healthy), the bullpen is average at best.

  80. RojoB

I said earlier that the Reds needed to step on the Brewers’ necks.

I forgot that most of their bullpen doesn’t have feet

  81. Arthur

Someone please tell me why AG had to be removed from the game. He struck out the side on 13 pitches.

If a reliever does well, he is rewarded by being removed from the game.

  82. LDS

Starting to look like Bell has a bet to cover. Gave Brach 24 pitches.

well the draft is sunday…if they pick a pitcher I hope he is stretched out

  84. Mark

Warren should have been the choice here in the 8th

    • Dennis Westrick

+1,000 but only if you’re serious about winning! Brach, and many others on the Reds pitching staff need to learn that walks haunt!

  85. Dennis Westrick

I will never understand Bell’s RP-an-inning approach! Why not use AG for one more inning?

  86. Maloney63

As soon as Bell put Brach into the game I called this. After the HORRIBLE week Brach has had Bell was perfectly willing to let him blow a third game! Unbelievable! WE HAVE 8 RELIEVERS IN THE PEN…WHY IS BRACH BEING BROUGHT IN IN ALL THESE CLUTCH SITUATIONS?? HORRIBLE MANAGING!

    • RedAlert

David Bell Little League participation rules

    • Dennis Westrick

So, instead of using AG for another inning, Bell has now used 3 relief pitchers with at least one more inning to go!

  87. Gpod

If the reds had a lockdown bullpen, they would have run away with this division

  88. Maloney63

By the way, why are umpires still being allowed to call balls and strikes when the technology is there to get every call right????? They miss 10-20 calls a game!

  89. Dennis Westrick

And now, thanks to Brach, we have to face one of the premier relief pitchers in the game in Hader!

  90. RedAlert

Wow Geno !!! Last dude I would have ever thought …..

    • RojoB

That really shut up the crowd.

      Love it!

Well when Geno hits a HR i’m always glad when he makes a statement like that

  91. Old-school

At least the Reds have Suarez against Hader leading off

  92. Rex

    what??????????????

geno has been sleeping on us!

  93. JB

Ok how many people had Suarez hitting a homer off Hader? And to right field?

    • MCT

Believe it or not, I did. In my head though, so I can’t prove it to anybody.

  94. J

I’m not sure I’ve ever been annoyed at Bell, and that’s really saying something. AG was pitching the best he’s pitched all season, threw 13 pitches and dominated 3 hitters, and you’re not even going to let him TRY to get through a second inning with this terrible bullpen? Instead, you’ll bring in the guy who blew the first game? I can’t even imagine what’s going through Bell’s head. I can’t believe Reds fans have to keep enduring this insanity.

    • earmbrister

I’ll post this for the third time. Bell seems to be all about building his players’ confidence.

My guess is that Bell is trying to grow Garrett’s confidence. K the side, thank you very much – time for a shower.

      • J

The last thing AG needs is MORE confidence.

      • earmbrister

A strutter struts because he lacks confidence.

    • RedAlert

Bell lives in an alternate universe where he thinks he’s smarter than everybody else – totally clueless

    • Redgoggles

1 – Brach has been much better over the course of the season.
2 – Garrett has been much worse over the course of the season.
3 – Garrett has had issues warming up and being as effective in his second inning in his career.
4 – Psychology game; Brach needs opportunity for redemption, Garrett needs successful outings. Geno needs game winning oppo shots.
5 – most important – HE LITERALLY HAS NO QUALITY OPTIONS with this bullpen. You can blame him for making the wrong choice, he literally has no right choices right now.

      • earmbrister

        Well thought out. Nicely done.

      • Jim t

Also all the second guesser’s we have posting get it right 100% of the time after the fact. Fact is reds do very well in 1 run games. The also kill it in extra innings. All with many on here second guessing the manager at least 3 times a game.

      • BatsLeftThrowsRight

Brach has a dead arm right now and his bread and butter pitch is the low strike this umpire refuses to call.

Bell can not foresee the obvious because he is captain oblivious, he fails to trust his own eyes and what is unfolding right before him.

  95. jazzmanbbfan

In response to an early post questioning why Suarez is in the lineup, I guess we know now!

    • RojoB

Bell saw it when he got up this morning

  96. LGR

First Jose Peraza of all people helps the Mets beat Hader, Now Geno? Hello?

  97. JB

Good lord what pitcher comes in and pitches the 9th?

  98. RED THUNDER

This is a repost above! Yeah, I just wish Bell would ride the Arm that is hot this week. Seems Amir is the hot one at the moment. Next week it could be someone else! With what we have, he needs some plan for making it work especially with this bunch. Good Luck Mr. Bell

    • JB

Do you think Doolittle will ever be the hot guy?

      • RED THUNDER

Ha Ha, he might have his week, just hope its not in the off season, lol

  99. Mark Moore

The best of the 3 true outcomes for Geno … and off Hader to boot.

  100. Rex

it is sad Joey is not thee to dance with Geno

  101. Old-school

Indy – can you explain suarez homering off Hader?

Thats a random no way it happens gamble

    • Mark Moore

As random as Jose Perez doing the same thing

  102. JB

I wouldnt be surprised to find out we all are chain smoking alcoholics from watching this team. Especially watching the bullpen.

  103. Slicc50

Beautiful swing there by Suarez. Pitch was away, he didn’t try to pull it. He went with it and hits it out to right center against one of the toughest lefties in the game! Now let’s just hope they can hold on!

  104. LDS

Here we go again. Make them hit the ball.

  105. JB

Umpire isn’t going to give Hembree anything . He will have to earn it. I hope Bell has Warren up just in case.

  106. JB

Man Hembree is the opposite of Miley. If Hembree was a starter the game would take 7 hours.

  107. Mark Moore

Light hitting PH and he walks him on sliders way outside. SMH!!

    • earmbrister

Yeah, afraid to pitch to Billy Hamilton lite

    • Maloney63

Cowboy said the exact same thing. He didn’t understand the logic at all. Just challenge the light hitting kid with fastballs! Makes no sense to throw sliders! Is that Barnhart making those weird pitch selections?

  108. J

Get ahead and throw three pitches nowhere near the zone, hope the guy swings. It’s a philosophy.

  109. earmbrister

5 back baby, and closing strong!

  110. Mark Moore

OK. That was a major nail biter. The win feels very good no matter what happens tomorrow now. Hanging the loss on Josh Hader is extra sweet.

  111. kevinz

    Great Job Geno.
    rough Year but huge HR.
    Need all hands on deck.
    Clutch plays takes a team.

  112. AllTheHype

Hader’s first loss of the season. Nice.

    • Dennis Westrick

And Cards beating up on the Cubs! Need Padres to lose and it will be a perfect night!

  113. Rex

after the AS break we should have some BP back…I hope

  114. Maloney63

REDS win in spite of Bell & Brach!! Thank you Nick, Geno and Heath Hembree!!!!

  115. RojoB

Reds now 8-0 when Freeman starts

    That stat is a riot

    • JB

Better let Indy know. He can make some money on that sure bet.

  116. VaRedsFan

No Sunday lineup tomorrow…play it as if you must win to make playoffs. Johnny Wholestaff should be ready to throw tomorrow.

    • Maloney63

Castillo vs. Woodruff! Could be a 1-0 game.

      • Dennis Westrick

As long as it’s Reds in the lead at the end of the game!

    • BatsLeftThrowsRight

Tomorrow is the biggest game this franchise will play in about seven or eight years, get it done. Score often and early, all relievers should be available except Brach, I think overuse has given him a dead arm. He could use the next five days off.

  117. Dennis Westrick

I still don’t understand Bell and probably never will nor want to! So, it’s OK to pitch HH again tonight after he pitched last night but AG can’t pitch consecutive innings?

    • BatsLeftThrowsRight

And why bring in a pitcher who is throwing on fumes right now, who lives and dies with and is dependent upon getting that low strike called when you know this umpire refuses to call it?

      • beelicker

3 straight RH batters coming up, bring on your RHP to face them. Maybe Brach is not the right RHP but you don’t leave the LHP in. Side bonus to double switch Votto’s spot just down with the pitcher’s spot coming up, since Votto’s ejection forced a change
