Injury updates on Max Schrock and Wade Miley
While manager David Bell didn’t get specific on either player’s injury, he said that reports on both were positive news today.
Final: Athletics 5 – Reds 2
Cincinnati couldn’t get much offense going on the night, and the pitching had some struggles at times, too. The result? A loss.
The Highlights
Jeff Hoffman allowed 3 runs in 3.0 innings, though that isn’t entirely true because one inning was a “rolled” inning. He walked two, allowed a homer, hit a batter, and he struck out four. Sean Doolittle allowed a run in an inning on a hit and a walk while striking out two. Braden Shipley tossed a perfect inning in the 5th. Josh Osich came out for the 6th inning and after two quick outs allowed a run to come in after a walk and a double. Matt Pidich came on for the final inning and threw a perfect frame with a strikeout.
Among the starters, only two players reached base. Nick Castellanos walked and singled in a run. Aristides Aquino went 1-2 with a single. Among the backups on the day it was Mark Payton making himself known. The oufielder took over for Castellanos and after jumping ahead 2-0 in the count he obliterated a baseball onto the roof deck in right field for a solo home run – his first of the spring.
Shogo Akiyama exited the game with a left hamstring injury.

Tomorrow’s game
The Reds take on San Diego and Yu Darvish in a shceduled 9-inning game at 4:05pm ET. Radio only.
Confused me at first. You have Mariners above the A’s lineup. I was looking at some of the players and thought there was a major trade.
Doug – you may want to list the athletics instead of mariners over the ” lineups”.
Copy and paste the table will get ya EVERY TIME. Fixing it now…. you know, in the 4th inning lol.
How many runs tonight?Do we score more then 3?
What happened to Shogo?
Hamstring injury.
Where do you think Pidich starts this year, and does he have the stuff to reach the majors eventually? He’s looked good this spring, and no experience above low A.
If Shogo ends up missing time I hope Payton replaces him. Since he’s a LH OF that lines up well as a replacement. He’s looked pretty solid this spring. Bummer though that the ol’ hammy issue has popped up twice for the Reds this past week.
