The Cincinnati Reds have reportedly traded outfielder Scott Schebler to the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB Trade Rumors Tim Dierkes.

Schebler was designated for assignment after not making the teams opening day roster. Last season was hampered by a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery, costing him some of the second half of the year. Prior to the 2019 season he had been a league average to slightly above league average hitter in the Major Leagues each season of his career. If he’s healthy again, he certainly can help out a team with room in the outfield thanks to his defense (can play all three spots if asked), speed, and pop in his bat.

In return for Scott Schebler the Cincinnati Reds are receiving cash considerations – first reported by Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Best of luck to Schebs. So weird to see the Reds castoffs on other teams. Wandy Peralta latched on with the Giants, now you have LaMarre and Dietrich with the Cubs lol, Homer is serviceable with the Twins (his 1-14 record in 109 IP still boggles the mind) . Trammell with the Padres doesn’t make me regret trading him……..they had him in RF and he just won’t hit for enough power to be a regular there. Josiah Gray might be the one we do regret…..he looked good for the Dodgers the other night.

Good to finally see some roster churn. It tells me better talent is in the pipeline and money is being spent.

      However,
It is nice, that players we DFA are being picked up, vs no one wanting them.
That means the team is better

I would like to first Thank Doug for all his hard work. I know this has been very difficult on him. He has “stayed” the course. We now have baseball

    Thank you Doug?

    Two quick observations—

    1. It is kind of ironic that the Braves picked up Schebler. They also have Duvall and Ozuna. If things had worked out differently, that could have been your starting outfield for the Reds in 2020. I know they have Acura etc. But, you may see a Braves outfield of those three.

    2. Mookie Betts contract. I was very surprised. Doug, you have said all along—-$$ is there/how they spend it is skewed. This makes your point. Kids making nothing. One guy a multi/multi millionaire.

Just sayin. They could do better. I agree with you Doug

    Probably another bullpen depth pick-up?

  4. Tom Mitsoff

Maybe Yonder Alonso? He was just DFA’d by Atlanta.

Alonso is a 1st basemen. Will not help the bullpen. We don’t need him. Lol.

Carson Fulmer dfa’d by White Sox. Another former Vanderbilt guy.

What’s up with “cash considerations”? Why not just say “cash”?

    • Doug Gray

I’m doing a little bit of speculation here, but in trades where the return is “a player to be named later or cash considerations”, sometimes those deals are contingent on what the player sent does. So in this situation, maybe the word considersations simply means a range of cash from ABC to XYZ depending on the performance over a specific period of time (say, 2020)? Just talking out loud here – I don’t really know.
