We’re a week into the Minor League full season team’s schedule. The Major League Reds can’t seem to win a game these days. Let’s see how their minor league teams are faring thus far.
AAA Louisville Bats
The Bats had a 3 – 3 record and in 3rd out of 4 in the International League West.
International League hitters are hitting .237/.321/.345/.666.
IF Nick Senzel is hitting just .190/.227/.238/.465 through his first five games. He played 2B his first four games and then was moved over to 3B after Eugenio Suarez’s thumb injury. It will be interesting to see if the Reds call him up this weekend after securing his services for another season, or leave him down at AAA for a bit longer to see him get some success at that level before bringing him up to the big league club.
OF Sebastian Elizalde, .313/.313/.563/.875, and OF Rosell Herrera, .267/.353/.467/.820, are off to hot starts for the Bats. OF Steve Selsky was signed as a Minor League free agent and has joined the Bats.
International League pitchers have a 3.24 ERA.
RH SP Bob Stephenson, 3.65 ERA, followed up a sketchy first start with a gem last night by tossing 7 IP allowing 1 R, 0 ER, on 3 H, 3 BB, with 10 SO. LH SP Justin Nicolino, 1.80 ERA, had a nice first start for the Bats after the 26 year old was acquired off waivers from the Marlins. RH SP Jose Lopez (3.60 ERA) and RH SP Jackson Stephens (3.60 ERA) both had nice first starts as well. RH RP Domingo Tapia has joined the club from the Pensacola team.
AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Blue Wahoos had a 3 – 3 record and are 2nd out of 5 in the Southern League South
Southern League hitters are hitting .243/.333/.357/.690.
OF Nick Longhi, .563/.588/.625/1.213, is off to a very hot start for the Blue Wahoos. IF/OF Josh VanMeter, .286/.333/.714/1.048, is back in Pensacola to start the season and is off to a quick start there. 2B Shed Long, .222/.300/.444/.744, is holding his own thus far at AA this year.
Southern League pitchers have a 3.54 ERA.
RH SP Keury Mella, 1.80 ERA, had a very good first start back at AA this year. RH SP Wyatt Strahan, 1.80 ERA, also had a great start to his AA season.
High A Daytona Tortugas
The Tortugas had a 6 – 1 record and are 1st out of 6 in the Florida State League North.
Florida State League hitters are hitting .239/.315/.378/.694.
C Tyler Stephenson, .308/.438/.615/1.053, has picked up in A+ Daytona right where he left off in A Dayton last year. OF Malik Collymore, .357/.400/.643/1.043 is off to a hot start. SS Luis Gonzalez, .375/.412/.625/1.037, is hitting very well to begin the season. OF T.J. Friedl, .167/.500/.417/.917, is getting on base often for the Tortugas thus far. OF Taylor Trammell, .333/.400/.333/.733, is playing well and seeing lots of time in CF with Jose Siri being out with an injury.
Florida State League pitchers have a 3.65 ERA.
RH SP Tony Santillan, 0.00 ERA, has yet to allow an earned run through two games started. LH SP Wennington Romero, 0.00 ERA, tossed 7 scoreless innings in his first start. LH SP Seth Varner, 1.50 ERA, had a very good first start. LH SP Scott Moss, 1.59 ERA, had a great first start as well.
Low A Dayton Dragons
The Dragons had a 4 – 3 record and are 3rd out of 8 in the Midwest League Eastern
Midwest League hitters are hitting .246/.340/.359/.699.
C Hendrik Clementina, .429/.500/1.143/1.643, is off to a great start at Dayton. OF Andy Sugilio, .429/.429/.571/1.000, was off to a great start before being placed on the DL with a hamstring injury. 3B John Sansone, .389/.450/.500/.950, is off to hot start with the Dragons. 3B Leandro Santana (.817 OPS), CF Stuart Fairchild (.815 OPS), and LF Miles Gordon (.812 OPS) are all off to good starts as well.
Midwest League pitchers have a 4.12 ERA.
LH SP Packy Naughton, 2.38 ERA, has thrown well over his first two starts. RH SP Wendolyn Bautista, 3.38 ERA, had a nice first start for the Dragons.
Thanks for the farm update and no pitchers are injured………..yet.
The depressing part of these updates is when you look at the names and realize there is a decent probability that the starting CF/RF/SS on “The Next Good Reds Teamâ„¢” might not even be in AAA.
