Joel Luckhaupt joined me for a special BREAKING NEWS edition of the podcast. Long-time Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has been traded to the Atlanta Braves for two minor leaguers. Joel and I discuss what this means for the Reds in 2017 and beyond, and look back at the memorable career of one of the best second basemen in Cincinnati history.

I hope he gets a standing ovation during his first plate appearance at GABP this year. Clearly he had to go because of the rebuild, but here was a guy who never begged out of the lineup and wanted to stay. I have no stats to back this up, but he is probably one of the top 100 players in the team’s very long history.

I’d say top 50, but I’m a BP fan…this was a win-win for everyone…kudos to FO for getting this done.

Best of luck Brandon. My son chose to play second base and wears number 4. Thank you Brandon. Now, if I could get him to add your infectious smile, we’d be all set.
