Tonight’s Reds-Pirates game was postponed due to rain. There has been no makeup date given yet. The Reds and Pirates will conclude their series tomorrow at 7:10 PM. Alfredo Simon, who was supposed to pitch tonight, will start tomorrow night.

Couldn’t we just play Indy on one of their off days and call that the make up game?

Looks like the Pirates only come back to GABP one more time from 16 to 18 September. There is an off-day directly before that series on 15 September.

My guess… day-night doubleheader on Friday, 16 Sep.

Seems dumb to not just do a doubleheader tomorrow, though. Everyone can go to bed early and be ready for a full day at the park.

The Pirates play the Phillies on 9/15. My guess is that unless Pittsburgh agrees to come to Cincinnati on a mutual off day, there will be a doubleheader on that Saturday. On the bright side, postponing this game means that Stephenson or Reed could be the one starting it, instead of Simon.

Another possibility if there is a mutual open date anywhere along the way and both of the teams are in reasonable proximity to Cincy the day before and after, they could play it as a one off. That’s certainly been done before.
Also keep in mind the Reds played as “home team” versus the Giants in San Fran several years back in a make up situation. although that is difficult to imagine with Cincy and Pittsburgh being less than an hour apart via air travel.

Both team appear to be off the 1st of September, a Thursday. The Reds are at LAAoA on Aug 31 and open at home on Sept 2. The Pirates are at Cubs on Aug 31 and also open a home stand on Sept 2. However, if I recall correctly the CBA work rules require an off day if a team is crossing 2 or more time zones for consecutive games.

This is the only mutual off day I saw prior to the Pirates September appearance at GABP excepting the All Star break.

If PIT is coming to town for a later series, they’re not going to force them into an extra trip on an off day.

99% sure it will be a doubleheader during the final PIT series in Cincy.

I tend to agree with you except that the final series at GABP is well into September when the weather can be iffy also. I was checking to see if there was an easy date earlier where the Reds were in the middle of a homestand or coming home from one of the nearby NL Central cities or traveling to one of the NL Central cities and the Pirates in a similar situation. And there isn’t.

Really a bit of strange early schedule for the Reds this season. Without the rainout, essentially half the season series with Pirates would have been in the books when they leave town Wednesday; and, a third of the season’s series with the Cubs was in the books in less than a month.

September weather is iffy? Around here (not far away in Indiana), September is about as nice as weather ever gets. Fall is usually pretty dry, and cold weather doesn’t settle in until late October or November.

Maybe I’m just grumpy over all the gray weather lately 😉

I’m in the NE corner of the immediate Dayton area (very near WPAFB). We had rain off and on all day yesterday until about 6PM when it stopped and a bit of partial clearing set in. No more rain all night. Very unusual for us to be that divergent from Cincy.

Reds, have announced what they are calling their “updated” rotation. Simon tonight; Finnegan, Adelman, Straily in Phillie; Lamb to lead off versus Indians then back through the loop (for now).

Also Pacheco in for Votto tonight. No explanation that I’ve seen yet.

The Reds vast injury list now extends out to former Reds. Todd Frazier got hurt today and had to leave the WhiteSox game. He went into the stands for a foul ball and busted his mouth on a seat. That had to hurt. Bloodied himself up a bit. Hope Frazier is OK and it is just a minor injury.

I read it was a split lip which took ~5 stitches to close and he is day to day. No mention of dental damage but sometimes that can take several days to become apparent.
