The Division Series round has come and gone, and now we move on to the League Championship Series. You really couldn’t have asked for a more exciting LDS round than what we got. The Cubs-Mets will begin the NLCS tomorrow night, but tonight is Game 1 of the ALCS. Both the Blue Jays and Royals are coming off thrilling Game 5 victories in the ALDS to get here. Here is the Game 1 matchup:

8:07 PM (FOX) – Edinson Volquez (33 GS, 3.55 ERA, 3.82 FIP) vs Marco Estrada (28 GS, 3.13 ERA, 4.40 FIP)

Former Red, Johnny Cueto pitched brilliantly in Game 5 for the Royals, and at one point retired 19 straight batters. The Royals will turn to another former Red, Edinson Volquez tonight. Volquez vs Encarnacion should be a lot fun.

Checking in on the Redleg Nation postseason picks, it looks like Greg Gajus and Taylor Ballinger are leading the way. Both guys picks both wild-card games correctly, and had the Cubs, Royals, and Blue Jays all in the LCS (both guys also picked the Dodgers).

Our old buddy, Edison Volquez, is on the mound for the Royals tonight.

The movement on his curve reminded me of his first year with the Reds. Can’t believe how many ex Reds are in this years playoffs. Wish we could figure how to keep some of our talent here in the Nati.
This upcoming rookie movement is going to be painful but maybe the success of the Pirates, Royals, Cubs and Astros can give us hope of the burn it down build it up model.

Other than our franchise player, Joey Votto, the Reds need prospects for offense and this means the trade of Chapman and perhaps Bruce and Frazier. Then keep the young guys until big contracts are on the horizon and then trade them. This calls for a strong farm system (i.e. the Cardinals).
