NYY-HOU: Open Thread Steve Mancuso 10/06/2015 18 Figure most of us are watching this game tonight. Post any comments you have about it here. Kurt Frost 10/06/2015 What can I do to make the homeless man beard look go away faster? Steelerfan 10/06/2015 Probably a better thread for it, but just a thank you for to all the writers here for making this season much more bearable. All of your hard work is greatly appreciated. And I have a 12 year old who loves Altuve and so improbably has become an Astros fan. Never thought I would be saying this, but go Astros. Steve Mancuso 10/06/2015 Yankee crowd has quieted a bit. Greg Spalding 10/06/2015 Way way WAY too much analysis and commenting by the ESPN crew. I am not criticizing the individuals themselves. But, why are so many “experts” needed to broadcast a game? Good God! John Kruk only saw 4 pitches from Keuchel before determining that everything he was throwing was up and that the Yankees need to capitalize. Littleleo1 10/06/2015 I thought Archer did a great job on the air tonight . He said “yes sir ” several times. And his comments were very insightful redbonebuck 10/06/2015 Only took Kruk one pitch to decide to get out of the box when Johnson threw over his head. I think Keuchel is a long term stud, that guy would look awesome in a Reds uniform, homeless beard and all! Kyle Sea 10/06/2015 I think the Reds could beat both these teams…. if Cueto was starting. Es verdad? Steve Mancuso 10/06/2015 Team with the $220 million payroll about to lose to the team with the $80 million payroll. Steve Mancuso 10/06/2015 Might be the last pick I get right in the postseason, but I’m 1-0. kmartin 10/06/2015 I find it interesting that Giardi used his two bullpen aces, Betances and Miller in a loss. However, when we lost the wildcard playoff to Pittsburgh in 2013 we used SEVEN pitchers not named Chapman. RedInInd 10/07/2015 Off-topic for the Wild Card game, but sure wish the writer of this would have included Price in the article about (seemingly) poor bullpen management: http://deadspin.com/bruce-bochy-was-giddily-incredulous-with-how-matt-wil-1734822678 VaRedsFan 10/07/2015 That was an awesome article…thanks. To me, that is Price’s biggest flaw. Shchi Cossack 10/07/2015 keithlaw via twitter…. Eddy Julio Martinez is not signing with the Giants and remains a free agent. Apparently his agents have grossly mishandled the negotiations for him after miscalculating his value and expected signing bonus. Not sure the Reds will be in the picture even at a bonus significantly below the initial reports of $10MM+. ohiojimw 10/07/2015 MLBTR had a somewhat in depth account of this situation yesterday. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/latest-on-eddy-julio-martinez-2.html His agents dug in on the $10M figure and wouldn’t back down then the market fell apart and they agreed to the lowball ($2.2M) the Giants were offering. The player then fired the agency and got new representation and now apparently the situation is back to square one. The Reds could surely use a Chapman/ Iglesias type success with picking up a position player out of this market. They paid $16.5M in bonus money in Chapman and $5M on Iglesias per Cot’s. The MLBTR article says there are concerns Martinez may be more of a doubles hitter instead of a home run hitter. That sounds like exactly what the Rdds could use if he can maintain an OBP cleanly above .320 or so in the process. . Shchi Cossack 10/07/2015 Yes Jim, when I read the scouting report that described his swing as compact with the ability to hit the ball to all fields and projected Martinez as more of a doubles hitter than a home run hitter, I couldn’t help but smile as I pictured him wearing that wishbone C. I71_Exile 10/07/2015 I consider these international signings as kind of free, found talent and am all for the Reds adding Mr. Martinez.
