The Reds announced this afternoon they have recalled OF Yorman Rodriguez from AAA-Louisville. SP Josh Smith was sent to AA-Pensacola as the corresponding move.
Yorman Rodriguez is currently listed as the Reds #9 overall prospect on MLB Pipeline, and #10 on Baseball America. Our own Doug Gray ranked Rodriguez as the Reds #4 prospect in his recent mid-season ranking. Rodriguez was selected to play in the futures game on Sunday in Cincinnati. He is only 22 years old, and was signed in 2009 for a $2.5 million bonus at the age of 16 by the Reds.
Rodriguez was hitting .272/.310/.432 with 9 HR, 40 RBI, 3 SB, with a 114 wRC+ at AAA. However, Rodriguez has hit .322/.370/.449 with 4 HR and .819 OPS since June 1st.
Rodriguez was called up to the big leagues for the first time as a September call-up last season. He appeared in 11 games, and hit .222/.276/.222.
Rodriguez is not in tonight’s starting lineup. It will be interesting to see how Rodriguez is used. You would believe the Reds would want him to have regular playing time. Does that mean he plays over Byrd? Does that mean Hamilton could get sent down? Does that mean Byrd or Bruce could be traded soon?
Doug Gray wrote about Rodriguez making changes at the plate last week on his site.
Stephenson watch! RT @ctrent: Smith’s spot in #Reds rotation, Thursday vs. Jose Fernandez in Miami, is listed as TBA
