The Reds have announced that Jon Moscot (RHP, age 23) has been called up from AAA and will start tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres at Great American Ball Park (John Fay). Raisel Iglesias had been announced as the starting pitcher. Our Tom Diesman had a premonition this would happen last week.

The Reds have not announced a corresponding move. They not only have to clear a space for Moscot (cough, cough, Jason) on the 25-man active roster, but also on the (cough, cough, Marquis) 40-man roster.

Moscot has made 9 starts this spring for the Bats. In 54.1 innings, he has struck out 34 and walked 19. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 amateur draft out of Pepperdine University.

Moving Raisel Iglesias back to the bullpen is a way to limit his innings. He basically didn’t pitch at all last year. The Reds really have no idea how many innings he can pitch. Iglesias has started four games for the Reds and only once gone beyond 5.2 innings.
