The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants come to Great American Ball Park for a four-game series this weekend. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are night games. The Sunday match-up is at 1:10 p.m. It’s almost impossible to believe, but the Reds swept four games from the Giants last year in San Francisco in late June.

If you have to ask if I’m over 2012, you’d never understand the answer. Redleg Nation Recaps: Game Three. Game Four. Stupid Game Five.

This Friday night, you not only get Fireworks, you get Star Wars Night (clever Reds video). Darth Bumgarner will pitch for the Giants.

If you’re buying tickets for the series, use TiqIQ to get great prices. If you’re traveling here, Hipmunk.com can help with flights to and from Cincinnati and also Cincinnati area hotels.

The t-shirts and hats from our recent fund-raiser will ship tomorrow via the U.S. Postal Service first class. Thanks again to everyone who supported the site.

Every time the Reds play the Giants I am reminded of 2012. Probably as long as i live. It still hurts ! Even more so than they went on to win the whole thing.

It is amazing that the Giants went 56 years without a World Series win from 1954 to 2010, but in the last five years they’ve won three.

Reds could totally skip Marquis start, would only need a fifth starter once (May 26th) until June. They could get Cueto 4 starts in the next 13 games the way the off days work. A great opportunity to see where they are and see who can be suitable right handed option out of the bullpen and phase Marquis out if Iglesias is the real deal.

They are going to skip Lorenzen according to Reds.com in order to keep his innings down.

      I agree with Vic.

I would move Marquis to the pen, not Lorenzen long term. Marquis has been ok in the first 3 innings it seems to me, he becomes my swing man. If Lorenzen or Rasiel cannot go more than 5, I bring in Marquis.

I am ok with Lorenzen in the pen short term, but not as a year long plan

Felt they could have had an opportunity to see what Lorenzen and Iglesias could do over a period of a month of regular starts…will Disco be able to go a full season as well. I think if the Reds plan it out Cueto can pitch on regular rest and pitch in 7 of the next 8 series

The Reds 4 game sweep over the Giants last year was an easy one, as I recall. No drama, just one routine win after another. The Reds have pretty much dominated the Giants in recent years, except those 3 2012 postseason games that still give me nightmares. After the Game 3 loss despite Homer’s masterpiece, I had a feeling of dread.

The Saturday game looked like they were headed for a 1-0 loss until BP hits a 2 run HR in the 9th, then Chapman blew it in the bottom of the 9th, but won going away in the 11th. Bailey almost threw a no hitter the next day – then they went to SD and got swept

Link to Game 3 recap doesn’t work. Hey, maybe that means it never happened! Who did we even play again?

Too bad the Reds lacked leaders on that 2012 team…like someone who could have read Latos the riot act before his petulance led to Posey’s GS.

I really, really, really don’t like to think about that series and what could have/should have been. So I can’t imagine what it must be like for the players who watched what may well have been a WS-winning season slip through their fingers. Maybe that’s why we keep pounding the Giants in the regular season.

    • IndyRedMan

That was on Dusty….you could see Latos starting to melt down about 3-4 hitters before Posey but Baker waits til the lifeboats are being lowered and people are drowning before he yells “Iceburg”

      • Eric the Red

Yeah, I was just making a point about Latos bad mouthing the team since he left. I can’t even really get on him too much for that Giants series, since his did great work after Cueto went out in Game 1.

If you believe in the national tv jinx, be forewarned. Tonight’s game is on MLB Network.

Yep. I certainly believe in it. The TV gods hate Cincinnati. At least the Reds aren’t as hopeless as the Bengals.
