The Good
–It is impossible to complain about the hitting today. 13 hits and 6 runs will get it done the vast majority of the time.

–Brandon Phillips gets special recognition with his 4 hit day. That was nice. Too bad it was wasted.

–Mike Leake had a rough first inning, but settled in nicely after that.

–Marlon Byrd has been a pleasant surprise in the field. He had a couple of nice moments tonight.

The Bad

–Joey Votto is good at many things. He’s never been much at baserunning. He’s not the only one, either. Not tonight.

–If this were not a family-friendly site, I would have lots of words about the bullpen tonight. I said on twitter and still feel that you can’t tell anything about a bullpen at this point in the season, but these last few days have still be awfully hard to take.

–The Reds are no longer in first. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Not-So-Random Thoughts

–It’s too early in the season for me to be pessimistic yet, but the shine has worn off those first four games now. I need the Reds to make things feel pretty again tomorrow.

–In an alternate universe, the Reds are 7-0. In this universe, they’ve been right there in ever game. That’s something, even if it’s not exactly what I want.

–Generally speaking, the right players seem to be hitting now. Good.

–Okay kids, time for bed. Cubs again tomorrow. Let’s see if the right team can Cub it up.
