Want a story line for tonight’s game? The Reds and Mets have identical record (66-74). They are located in the same place in the standings in their respective divisions (4th place). So we can assume these two teams will play a game that will remain deadlocked for hours and hours. Maybe the two will play a game that will last for days! How riveting would a Reds-Mets game that goes 25 innings be!!??

Lineup:
1. Hamilton CF
2. Frazier 3B
3. Mesoraco C
4. Bruce RF
5. Phillips 2B
6. Pena 1B
7. Bourgeois LF
8. Santiago SS
9. Simon P

I need to do this because it is well deserved.

Congratulations Jason, looks as if you were dead right, Good Job

“Do not believe the hype. I will say it again: Do not believe the hype. All year, I’ve been looking at this Brewers team from afar and thinking, “That just doesn’t seem real.” I hadn’t looked really closely at them because, well, I haven’t had to and it didn’t matter that much to me. But now that I’m writing a series preview, it’s time to look into the matter.
I did. This team is a mirage”.

The Brewers have lived up (or down) to the article

Unfortunately, the same was said of the reds going into the All-star break on a winning streak…and was also true. Frustrating to know that last years team would be in first place this year.

      • Thegaffer

With a healthy team and one or two smart moves they should be OK for 2015. If not, it should be a firesale of epic proportions. Our players have value, we just need to put it together.

I am wondering how the St Louis Cardinals do it? They don’t have Pujols or Freezse anymore. Nor Allen Craig anymore. They have had injuries to their pitching staff, Wacha & Garcia, plus their Catcher-Molina was out for 7-8 weeks, yet they are 77-63 and sit in first place. That tells me the Cardinals are more of a team, and that the Reds rely way too much on Votto. There is no telling what kind of player Votto will be next year and so on……so if the Reds want to compete at all, they had better look at each position next year and so on…….or they are setting themselves up for failure again!

    • George Mirones

Jeff you answered your question “the Cardinals are more of a team”. Cards ownership doesn’t value personalities as B. C. does.

      • Thegaffer

Please tell me there is a legit reason. I already hate the new Notre Dame uniforms and turf field, now this? They are the reds not the greens!

  3. RedAlert

This is like a bad nightmare – play from behind every single game – unbelievable

  4. VaRedsFan

    Here’s to Billy taking more pitches…2 takes….0-2 count….then takes strike 3

  5. VaRedsFan

over 1000 challenges of calls….47% have been overturned.

  6. VaRedsFan

Simon at 62 pitches through 2. After 2 straight solid starts, this one is a little shaky to say the least.

  7. VaRedsFan

BP snaps his 0-20…good for him…then goes 1st to 3rd on Pena’s hit

  8. pinson343

Brantley was just saying how Colon knows that Frazer is “eager” to steal his 20th base and will take advantage. Two TOOTLBANS so far tonight for Frazer. Maybe he’ll go for the Golden Sombrero of baserunning – four TOOTLBANs.

      • pinson343

He’s the King of “Overeager”, both on the bases and at the plate with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 out.

  9. BigRedMike

Intentional walk in the 4 th inning?

Hope the Reds plan for starters in 2015 has Simon on the fringe of that discussion

    • pinson343

I didn’t like that either. Price was trying too hard to coax Simon thru 4 innings. Whatever one has to do say about this particular decision or any particular decision by Price, over the course of the season his in-game decisions have hurt the team more than helped. I’m not for firing him, but I hope he’s learning and will do better next season.

  10. pinson343

d’Arnoud now has 13 HRs in 336 ABs and had hit Simon hard in his first 2 times at bat. Who knows, Duda might have taken Simon deep but that would be 2 runs, not 3.

I’m pretty sure none of the opposing players are giving the Reds the business for wearing their Halloween costumes during a game. Well, at least they’re not wearing oversize clown shoes. Go Reds!

  12. RedAlert

Every move this team makes backfires – the manager has to take a lot of the responsibility for that – it has been magnified x 10 this year –

  13. VaRedsFan

Nice to see Pena get 2 ground ball hits after hitting into some very tough luck lately.
He stung the ball a lot with nothing to show for it.

  14. sergeant2

The same base running blunders the Reds made in April, are still happening, and its September. Accountability can be a wonderful thing, but only if its implemented.

  15. pinson343

Colon throwing nothing but high fastballs to Lutz, all of them out of the strike zone except the last one, a high strike. Should have walked – to load the bases – on a 3-2 pitch way high and outside. Someone should kick his butt for that, no one will.

  16. pinson343

The only Reds hitter I see getting consistently good ABs – other than Mesoraco – is, of all people, Ramon Santiago. I hardly ever see him chase.

  17. Jeff Morris

Wonder what the attendence is tonight??

    • RunBillyRun

      Left a few minutes ago.
More than half empty and very quiet crowd.

  18. pinson343

Hoover’s back. The Mets are not exactly what you’d call a power hitting team. I’ve seen enough, I don’t want to spend another Friday night like this.

I’ll check the score later, to see if I’ve missed a miraculous comeback.

I admire those of you still watching, good fans.

  19. Jeff Morris

Yes, Hoover is back and allowed a Home Run. Why not keep Hoover at AAA and bring up other pitchers and allow them to pitch, they could do no worse.

  20. VaRedsFan

Arizona GM fired. Could Larussa take Jocketty off our hands?

  21. VaRedsFan

    Awesome defensive play by Dennick

  22. RedAlert

would rather see the call ups the rest of the year than this train wreck that the Reds continue to run out there every night – wish Castellini would cut Rip Van Jokerty loose – let some other organization pay him for sitting on his hands

  23. RedAlert

Embarrassing – just don’t think Price is the answer – this team just tanking –

  24. sergeant2

Hey! here’s a good idea: Lets rob the players of their dignity by making them wear the St. Patrick Day uniforms in September. Shirley that will motivate the team to play better.

  25. sergeant2

Poor Price, the players have not accepted him as the manager even a little bit. So far.

  26. wildwestlv

I miss the Little League World Series, and it’s mercy rule. If there was paperwork the Reds could fill out, with MLB, to write off the rest of the season, please.

  27. Tom Reed

This is not a good way to start the weekend.

      • RedAlert

Yea – they want those steins – cause it sure ain’t to view the product on the field

  28. The Next Janish

Rough night at the ballpark. Glad I choose to play catch then watch this game. I’m blaming the “it gets better” article for jinxing the reds. 😉
Hats off to the red leg nation staff for being true fans

  29. wildwestlv

It only gets better when the 2014 season comes to a close. It can always spiral worse before then.

    • wildwestlv

Love this. You gotta have fun at this point, people. It’s just baseball.

  30. sergeant2

I’ll tell ya one thing, the fans still in the stands deserve to get a free ticket to a game of their choice for sticking it out this long in that heat and humidity. A tip of the cap to those Reds fans.

    • RedAlert

Make no mistake . I have stuck with the Red thru thick and thin and will continue to do – this is a blog for fans to express their opinions – sorry they don’t always make you happy or coincide with your beliefs – maybe you are not the “real ” fan as you call it

      • RedAlert

Is your last name Price , Castellini , or Jocketty ? – if not , then you have no more inside knowledge than the rest of us on this blog –

  31. Jake

14-3? Jeez how can anyone sit through that torture

  32. blupotato

Congrats to Jack Hannahan for his first rbi’s after 30 some odd ab’s this year. Yippeee.

  33. sergeant2

Believe it or not I would not be surprised if the Reds return the favor tomorrow by giving the Mets a good old good one. There is no rhyme or reason to how the Reds will play from one game to the next. But just as tonight and every game the Reds play we here at Redleg Nation will be rooting for our Reds to win. Lets get em tomorrow. Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

  34. wildwestlv

“Abandon hope all ye who enter here”, should just be the new, recurring recap. It is becoming pretty humorous, though. When the pitching, lineup, & management combine for another laugher, you have to just tilt your head & chuckle.

  35. sergeant2

I think this might be the first game all season where there was only one page of comments on the game thread.
