Without a series win, my hopes for the wild card in 2014 will be extinguished. Then it will be a race for fourth place with the Cubs.

I’d prefer they give Heisey as much playing time as possible for the rest of the season as one final look at whether he could handle the job full-time. I think not but would also like additional proof. He’s always seemed to have the tools but just hasn’t put it together on a consistent basis. I believe he gets much more expensive next year.

      • George Mirones

Is that another way of saying that the decision has been made and any other proof is not needed.

      • jas428

Regrettably, I think the decision has been made already. Only Castellini the Younger can spare him.

  3. BigRedSaguaro

Latos trying to see how fast he can get out of the park tonite

  4. wildwestlv

When the Reds are finally in last place, in the NL Central, below the Cubs, THEN it can’t get any worse.

    • George Mirones

Bailey will not be back this year per FSO. That means that the 5th starter spot will be whoever the rest of this season. See, it got worse.

      • BigRedSaguaro

Yeah that article should’ve been posted later in the season

In defense of Mat Latos, any parents on here can relate, in the week or two after the birth of your newborn, you are not yourself, mentally, or physically. I bet, about now, he feels like he’s pitching in the final 30 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  6. BigRedSaguaro

2+ years and still living in that zone

  7. BigRedSaguaro

Hopefully we remember who Jacob Turner is

    • George Mirones

looks like the Cubs remembered they are the Cubs.

  8. BigRedSaguaro

Guess Jay wasn’t so ready to hit,Thom

    • George Mirones

Thom’s tea leaves must worn out.

      • George Mirones

either that or his flavored water is 80 proof

How was Billy’s slow roller to deep short not a hit?

    • Kevin J. Brown (@ZebtheRed)

Castro was coming in on the ball, so it was hardly “deep short”. Would BH have been safe if Castro had fielded it cleanly? I’ve have to see a replay showing where he was when Castro should have fielded the ball.

    • George Mirones

Ok Sergeant2 will the attendance be over 13500 to night?

      • sergeant2

Oh yeah, definitely over 13,500. I’ll guess they’ll give the attendance at around 20,000 maybe more if they give the number of tickets sold, and not butts in seats.

      • BigRedSaguaro

What was the deal with last nights attendance?

      • sergeant2

If you mean which number did they give, I believe they always give the number of tickets sold, but I could be wrong. I just go by what they announce.

      • BigRedSaguaro

Just seemed a lot less than they announced but tickets sold makes sense

      • George Mirones

I forgot that . They call it paid attendance.

  10. BigRedSaguaro

    Zack refuses your help,Cubbies

  11. sergeant2

I think its safe to say Latos is none to happy to being taken out of the game.

    • George Mirones

      Chris is stronger defensively.

      • George Mirones

Didn’t say what I wanted. My thought was he wants to see who the Cubs bring in to pitch

  12. jessecuster44

here comes the gasoline on the fire…

  13. Redgoggles

Castro became his own fan there for a bit. The tying run should be on 2nd. Nothing easy this year.

    • jessecuster44

Castro is such a head case. I have no idea why the Cubs have stuck with him for so long.

      • Redgoggles

He’s like the opposite of Cozart. Pick your poison, I suppose.

      • jessecuster44

I pick Cozart. He is an excellent defender, and doesn’t give games away by being stupid. If Castro is running hard on his hit, the game is tied right now.

      • jessecuster44

now Castro being raked over the coals by Reds TV team. As he should be.

  14. sergeant2

Ok obviously Brox doesn’t have it tonight, why is he still pitching? Is Price going to wait till the game is tied, or the Cubs take the lead.

    • jessecuster44

You are going to get the argument that it takes too long for relievers to warm up, which is baloney. With the state of the Reds bullpen right now, I would have a reliever on the mound and one warming up in the pen at all times.

  15. jessecuster44

If the Reds were in the hunt, maybe Chappy is in the game now, but I doubt it.

  16. jessecuster44

Phew. Now Chappy gets a save opportunity.

      • Redgoggles

I’m more of a subscriber to the theory that Heisey can hit a fastball, and not much else. Relief pitchers throw more fastballs, hence Heisey is a better later in the game option.

  17. jas428

Price wanted Heisey to get a pinch hit homer. That’s why he did not do double switch. Price loves Heisey like Dusty did.

  18. sergeant2

Like I said earlier, good move to leave Broxton in even though he was struggling. (to the best of my recollection, I believe that’s what I said) : )

    • jessecuster44

Yes, and the announcer said that Broxton “got the job done” That’s a hold for you.

    • George Mirones

Ok obviously Brox doesn’t have it tonight, why is he still pitching?
      That’s the way I read it 🙂

      • sergeant2

Now that you mention it I do kinda sorta remember saying something about Broxton. My English, she’sa notta so good. Go Reds!

  19. jessecuster44

Ok, someone up in the bullpen, please.

  20. George Mirones

Come on thom the tying run isn’t aboard it is at the plate

    • George Mirones

I guess Thom missed the Heisey HR.

  21. jessecuster44

    Wow – throw strikes, please.

  22. Redgoggles

Cubs are looking pretty decent…….their young (and cheap) talent makes me a bit envious. I’m afraid we’ll be looking up to them in a few years (if not next.)

  23. sergeant2

Ok, obviously Chapman is strugg…. oh never mind. Awesome job by Chapman, the man did some business tonight. As the great philosopher Meatloaf would say “two out of three ain’t bad” and that’s exactly what will happen after the Reds beat the Cubs tomorrow afternoon. Go Reds! Adios Amigos. BTW- Plenty of seats available for tomorrows game.
