No Jack in the line-up, undefeated the past 2 weeks with him starting, lost everyone he did not.
Once you get over Phillips hitting 3rd hard to find a problem with this line-up, can Negron play SS?

I really wish that Price would take Meso out of the cleanup spot; perhaps the pitchers would have caught up to him anyway but his performance has plummeted since he moved there. I suspect there is some added psychological pressure.

Ludwick is 15 for 39 with 3 HRs off Harang.

    • Vicferrari

I really do not think batting position should factor in, but outisde of that Marlin game a few weeks ago he has been lousy there. Wonder if it is his approach, feeling less pressure batting 6th or 7th?
Lets start a debate of whether Ludwick owns Harang, it seems to bring good luck for the hitter at least

Kevin says,”I suspect there is some added psychological pressure”.
While I agree with the concept I also believe in your thinking that, you have stated before, this also maybe part of the player evaluation process for 2015 in this case,to see just how Devin deals with the adversity.

After reading the lengthy and informative hindsight discussion about the “bunt”, wouldn’t it be great if all this data was used as a tool (as Kevin points out) “given the specific circumstances and the specific teams and players in those circumstances” before the actual event occurs. In other words why not say that the ” data” says if this or that happens in this situation then this or that will be the result. (if, then prognosis)
This way the discussion could be reduced to a score card (Americans love to keep score)
based on data prediction and not perfect hindsight data . This could also include the actual result versus the managers actual decision.
    Just some off centered thinking.
Keep it up guys education is a wonderful thing.

    • Vicferrari

Should have been in the bullpen a few weeks ago, just looks worn out as he should be, too bad there are no other options other than Holmberg (which I find hard to believe)
I do not think Cingrani is a real option to start but is he going to pitch again this year

  4. Vicferrari

Might get 7 out of Simon, I assume Chapman is not available, 4 innings in less than 72 hours, I will assume Jumbo in the 8th, Broxton in the 9th if it gets that far, who do you trust in the 7th if it comes down to it?

    • Kevin J. Brown (@ZebtheRed)

Jumbo only pitched to 1 batter last night; think I’d go to him in the 7th and try to get him through the 8th as well. Don’t trust anybody else in a high leverage situation.

    • Vicferrari

Might be the only hit of the day

  5. Vicferrari

Why not have Mes bunt, could have had the go ahead run at 3rd with 1 out

  6. Vicferrari

How about that back to back 2 out hits?

  7. ohiojimw

Miracle of miracles, Cozart actually shortened his swing and hit a ball where it was pitched.

    • Vicferrari

I was hoping for 6, 8 is looking very likely, at the rate the Braves are going, CG not out of the question, talk about choking, puts in perspective the level Holmberg is at

  8. Michael J Hampton

Nice job, through 6, by Alfredo. Maybe having a few runs scored for him allows him to loosen up an just concentrate on pitching.

    • Vicferrari

Maybe having the Braves to throw to helps- living in Atlanta fans view their bats the same way we see the Reds’

    • VaRedsFan

except he STILL doesn’t know how to slide More fundamentals for Bruce. Like a broken record

      • BigRedSaguaro

always waiting for a snapped ankle

  9. vegastypo

The Braves are not playing like a team with a playoff possibility. Not covering first, not getting the tag down, etc.

  10. BigRedSaguaro

whoa, might need two hands to count all the Reds runs today

  11. Kevin J. Brown (@ZebtheRed)

Gee I know we need some hits but the scoring is really a bit ridiculous today. NO way the ball Pena hit shouldn’t have been an error.

Good hustle by Cozart to get the RBI.

  12. Vicferrari

Dilema time, I say 1 more batter since he is under 100, someone said bring Jumbo for the 7th and 8th, who has a better idea

  13. BigRedSaguaro

it always amazes me that the Braves gave B.J. all that money

      • BigRedSaguaro

baseball salaries will always amaze me

      • George Mirones

Some think it is a measuring contest between a few owners. Too bad George Steinbrenner isn’t around We would see some real money being put on the table.

    • Kevin J. Brown (@ZebtheRed)

Probably for Heyward but i wonder if Price plays it differently now that we got through the 7th.

Gotta figure they PH for Simon; some hard hit balls that inning. Excellent outing though..

    • Vicferrari

Heywood then Freeman in the hole

  14. ohiojimw

I see on Twitter that the Pirates have claimed some guy named Bobby LaFromboise on waivers. I wonder if the NHL and MLB waivers wires got crossed up somewhere along the line 🙂

  15. VaRedsFan

There are so many fireworks in reserve, that they shot some extras off.

  16. BigRedSaguaro

I love that this team loves setting off fireworks

  17. ohiojimw

If the Reds close out here and would happen to sweep the Cubs, depending on what goes down elsewhere, the Pirates series next weekend might also have relevance for the Reds.

  18. ohiojimw

We are getting dangerously close to the lack of urgency issue that Price seems to have inherited from his predecessor.

  19. BigRedSaguaro

Jumbo!! made it like easy sort of

  20. BigRedSaguaro

Cubs pitcher has a no hitter through 6

  21. WhereRUKlu?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…Jumbo will be back in 2015 and Hannahan will not.

    • Vicferrari

Do not be so sure, this is the team that in April considered Partch, Bell, and Christiani were better options…and the thinking is that they might need Jack for something next year

    • ohiojimw

Just wasted all the effort by Jumbo to get them out of the 8th unscathed.

  22. WhereRUKlu?

    Hoover…Ondrusek. One and the same.

  23. BigRedSaguaro

hopefully Logan got that out of his system and gets 3 quick outs

    • Vicferrari

not quite, might need Chapman to face Feeman if it gets that far

  24. Chris

How is there ZERO accountability with keeping and pitching Logan on this team?? None.

  25. ohiojimw

I think Price understood that it was one thing to get caught being slow with the hook during the Chapman melt down and quite another if he left Ondo in a batter too long.

  26. Jake

Ondrusek is absolutely terrible, how is he still on this team?

  27. BigRedSaguaro

    getting unnecessarily intense

    • Vicferrari

Should have went out for a chat at 2-0

  28. Vicferrari

Broxton must have caught what Chapman had last Sunday

  29. ohiojimw

Regardless of what happens I think Price is off the hook today. He had Broxton in there in time to close the game without even facing the tying run and with two chances to close it without facing the lead run. Ondrusek just shouldn’t be on the MLB roster.

    • ohiojimw

I think Broxton was probably only marginally “available” today, BUt he got the job done.

      • Vicferrari

if getting the job done is allowing the first 3 batters to reach with a 2 run lead

      • ohiojimw

He didn’t serve up a salami. The Reds won. That’s getting the most important part of the job done.

    • Vicferrari

Agree, it worked out anyway, but Ondrusek has got to be better, bullpen needs a rest would have been preferable not to use Broxton who needless to say did not look sharp- at least you can feel good about Jumbo and Chapman the remainder of the season

  30. Jeff Morris

Overall, good job by Broxton. At least the Reds get a split in the series. I don’t howwwwwwwwwww mannnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyyyy times we have said it here on Redleg Nation, why? why? why? is Ondrusek pitching for the Reds, or in the big leagues?

    • Jake

The only reason I see is he has some dirt on Price or Jocketty because if he had been on any other team he would’ve been DFA

  31. sergeant2

Piece of cake, now to find my blood pressure medicine. A split with Braves ain’t bad though. Now on to sweeping the Cubs. Go Reds!
